GAFFNEY, S.C. - Mrs. Katie Blanton McDaniel, 93, of 141 Teal Drive, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001 at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Marshall H. McDaniel
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Marshall H. McDaniel, 70, of 1538 York Road died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001 at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Haywood County, he was the son of the late Cephas Gregory and Maggie Carver McDaniel. He was a retired supervisor from Threads, Inc. in Gastonia. He served in the Army.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gilbert Gregory McDaniel.
He is survived by his wife, Gertrude "Trudy" Caldwell McDaniel of Kings Mountain; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Michael and Marsha Davis of Davis, and Tony and Sharon Colvin of Kings Mountain; six grandchildren, Ashley Nicole McDaniel of Shelby, Shannon Davis Camp and her husband, Bill, of Shelby, Binh H. Davis of Charlotte, Jerry C. Davis of Gastonia, Tony Andrew Colvin of Bessemer City and Thomas Marshall Davis of Davis; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with the Rev. James H. Billings officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain Rest Cemetery in Kings Mountain.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service.

Marie-Jeanne LePage
YADKINVILLE - Mrs. Marie-Jeanne Plourde LePage, 83, of 903 W. Main St., died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at Yadkinville Nursing Center.
A native of Quebec, Canada, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Aldegarde Jean Plourde. She was a Catholic and a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Camille Theodore LePage; one brother; and four sisters.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Margaret LePage of Lattimore; two brothers, Oscar Plourde of Capchat, Quebec, and Louis-Guy Plourde of St. Moise, Quebec; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
The memorial service will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at the chapel of the Stamey Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Padgett officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Taunton, Mass.
The family will receive friends an hour before the service.

SHELBY - Mrs. Elnora E. Beam, 75, of 1232 Webb Drive, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at her home.

Gazzie Harmon
MOORESBORO - Mrs. Gazzie Lee Jolley Harmon, 79, of 868 Old N.C. 221-A, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at Rutherford Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Game Lee and Annie Jones Jolley. She was retired from Cone Mills, Cliffside Plant and was a member of Prospect Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Wayne Harmon, and a son, James Edward Harmon.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Patty and Arthur Hutchins of Charlotte; two granddaughters, Brenda H. Talavera of Austin, Texas, and Vicki Harmon of Charlotte; a great-granddaughter, Analysa Talavera; and a sister, Louise Jolley of Bostic.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Prospect Baptist Church with the Revs. John Goforth and John Godfrey officiating. Burial will be at Fredrick Memorial Gardens, Gaffney, S.C.
The family will receive friends Sunday night from 6 to 8 at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home in Cliffside.
Rema Sisk
SHELBY - Mrs. Rema M. Sisk, 72, of 202 South Fork Drive, died Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at Hospice of Cleveland County.
A native of Bryson City, she was the daughter of the late Sewell B. and Julia B. Monteith. She was a homemaker and a member of Shelby Freewill Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wood H. Sisk and by her sister, Gay M. McCarn.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bryon W. and Shanon Sisk of Kings Mountain; four sisters, Ruth M. Musgrave, Ovilla M. Payne and Gleta M. Wilson, all of Lexington, and Thama M. Hudson, of Winston-Salem.; one granddaughter, Grace E. Sisk of Kings Mountain; and a grandson, Jacob P. Sisk of Kings Mountain.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services with Dr. Ed Hutchinson officiating. Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.

FALLSTON - Mrs. Novella Patience Spangler Dixon, 91, of 4303 Fallston Road died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late A.D. and Nannie Patience Greene Spangler and was a homemaker. She was a member of Fallston Baptist Church and Fallston Order of the Eastern Star. She was a former member of Fallston Woman's Club and the Home Demonstration Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers, Leck Spangler, A.L. Spangler, Yates Spangler, Carl Spangler, Clemmie Spangler and Eubert Spangler, and five sisters, Mary Hendrick, Euna Stockton, Evie Laughlin, Flossie Cornwell and Essie Sperling.
She is survived by her husband of 74 years, Paul Allen Dixon Sr., two sons and two daughters-in-law, Ralph and Sybil Dixon of Fallston and Allen and Linda Dixon of Kings Mountain; five grandchildren and their spouses, Kim Wease and her husband, Tommy, Christy Dixon, Kevin Dixon, Ralph Dixon Jr. and his wife, Myra, and Sherry Nappier and her husband, Randy; and five great-grandchildren, Brett Wease, Brady Wease, Zachary Nappier, Heather Burris and her husband, Josh, and Christopher Dixon.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Fallston Baptist Church with the Revs. Scott Norton and Bruce Rabon. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park.

KINGS MOUNTAIN- Mrs. Nell Lindsay Cook, 88, of White Oak Manor, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at her residence.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Nora Frances Dover Lindsay. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Kings Mountain, and was retired from the textile industry.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Cook; three sisters, Ethel Miller, Vernia Woody and Ruth Shepherd; and four brothers, Lee Lindsay, Irvin Lindsay, Clyde Lindsay and Hugh Lindsay Sr.
She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with Dr. John Sloan officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain Rest Cemetery.

HICKORY - Mrs. Betty Cook Cantrell, 67, of 14th Avenue N.W., died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at Catawba Memorial Hospital.
A native of Burke County, she was the daughter of the late John and Gusta Sigmon Cook. She was an active member of Faith Tabernacle Church, and she was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by a number of brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her husband, the Rev. Eugene Cantrell of the home; one daughter, Ms. Toni Sams of Hickory; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Dennis Cantrell and David Cantrell of Hickory and Rocky and Genia Cantrell of Conover; four granddaughters, Jenny Farley, Jessica Stringfield and Haley Sams, all of Hickory, and Tina Cantrell of Conover; two grandsons, Jason Cantrell of Conover and Bradley Sams of Hickory; three great-grandsons, Elijah Farley, Kerigan Farley and Charlie Stringfield, all of Hickory; and three sisters, Murdis C. Abee of Valdese, Ailene C. Morrison of Casar and Effie Vanhorn of Connelly Springs.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Faith Tabernacle Church with the Revs. Dick Chapman and Brian Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park.

Vennie Ledbetter
CHESNEE, S.C. - Mrs. Vennie Pearl Short Ledbetter, 84, of 605 Georgia Ave., died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at Magnolia Manor, Inman, S.C.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Mary Ada Short. She was a homemaker and a member of Southside Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Quince Ledbetter, and a son, Oren Dean Ledbetter.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Patsy Ledbetter and Roger and Gail Ledbetter, both of Chesnee, and Henry and Eleanor Ledbetter of Gaffney; one daughter and son-in-law, Marie and David Hedden of Chesnee; one brother, Grady C. Short of Chesnee; 20 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Southside Baptist Church, Chesnee, with the Rev. Harold King and Dr. Troy Gregg officiating. Burial will be in Springhill Memorial Garden.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

Frank Troutman
LITTLE ROCK, ARK. - Dr. Frank Henry Troutman, 79, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000.
A native of Ador, he was the son of Daniel and Amelia Dietz Troutman. He grew up in Shelby and was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church during that time. He served as an Army Air Corps aviator, serving in World War II and the Korean War. He received a Purple Heart after being injured on Okinawa. He earned the Air Medal, seven Oak Leaf Clusters and four Battle Stars. He retired from the military in 1959 as a major. He attended Little Rock Junior College and received his undergraduate degree. He received his Ph.D. in business administration from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. In 1966, he became a senior industrial specialist and associate professor at the University of Arkansas. In 1973, he was made senior research specialist and professor at the University of Arkansas. He retired in 1986 as a tenured professor emeritus. He authored many economic publications and was a member of the Psi Theta Kappa, Alpha Kappa Psi and Beta Gamma Sigma fraternities. He was a member of the Order of the Purple Heart, Retired Officers Association and Korean Veterans. He was a supporter of the Environmental Health Association and a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Little Rock.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria Auten; one sister, Pauline T. Poston; and three brothers, Fred Troutman, Samuel Troutman and Daniel Troutman.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Maralynn and Lou Meyers of Bellevue, Neb.; his wife, Bonnie, and her daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Randall Green of West Hartford, Conn., and their two sons.
A graveside burial will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.

Wayne Biddix
HICKORY - Mr. Ernest Wayne Biddix, 54, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at his home.
Born Oct. 4, 1946, in Kings Mountain, he was the son of the late Ernest R. Biddix of Bessemer City and Lois Walls Hoffman of Hickory. He was employed as a truck driver with Henredon Furniture of Morganton. He served as the past master of the Cookesville Masonic Lodge and was a past patron of the Eastern Star in Cookesville. He worked in construction for 30 years.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Judy Townsend Biddix; two sons, Michael Wayne Biddix and Mark Allen Biddix, both of Hickory; one brother and sister-in-law, Douglas and Sherry Biddix of Lawndale; a half sister, Debbie McIntosch of Murphy; a stepfather and stepmother, Ronnie and Shirley Hoffman of Lawndale; and a special granddaughter, Mindy Danielle Biddix of Claremont.
A memorial service will be Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Royal Chapel Church of God, Hickory, with the Rev. John Petty officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

SHELBY - Ms. Tammie Elizabeth Petty, 37, of 421 Hobbs Ave., died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Roscoe and Isabell Story Petty. She was formerly employed as a CNA at White Oak Manor and Cleveland Pines Nursing Center.
She is survived by one son, Roscoe Petty of Shelby; two daughters, Ericka M. Petty and Shamaya L. Petty, both of Shelby; three sisters, Dora Petty Wilson and Joeane McCoy, both of Kings Mountain, and Martha Bell Ross of Waco; one brother, Lesco Petty Gardner of Grover; a special aunt, and a second mother and best friend, Ruby Lee Brown.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church with the Rev. Lawrence Roseboro officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.

FOREST CITY - Mrs. Blanche Gamble Rhymer, 91, formerly of 1971 Chase High Road, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at the home of her daughter.
