MOORESBORO - Mr. Donald William Owens, 43, of 144 Dr. Wiseman Road, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at his home.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Lane officiating. Burial will follow at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Nell Cook
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Nell Lindsay Cook, 88, of White Oak Manor, died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at her home.
A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Nora Frances Dover Lindsay. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Kings Mountain, and was retired from the textile industry.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Henry Cook; three sisters, Ethel Miller, Vernia Woody and Ruth Shepherd; and four brothers, Lee Lindsay, Irvin Lindsay, Clyde Lindsay and Hugh Lindsay Sr.
She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be today at 11 a.m. at the Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with Dr. John Sloan officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends an hour before the service at Harris Funeral Home.

BESSEMER CITY - Mr. Frederick G. "Freddie" Smith, 29, 701 West Virginia Ave., died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Clark officiating. Burial will be in Vantine Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.

John Hallman
CHERRYVILLE - Mr. John Daniel Hallman, 81, of 203 S. Elm St., died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Michael Collins and Dr. Bill Lowe officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will be in City Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home.

SPINDALE - Mr. Phillip Lynch, 45, of 1845 Spindale St., formerly of Hendersonville, died on Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Union Grove Baptist Church in Hendersonville with the Rev. Billy Waters officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in the Shaw Creek Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at Thompson Brothers Funeral Home in Forest City.

Carolyn Earls
MOORESBORO - Ms. Carolyn Earls, 59, of 1728 Greenlee Road, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Opel and Sarah Estelle Godfrey Earls. She was a member of Camps Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, Oliver Ken Earls; nine brothers, Wilber Lee Earls, Buck Earls, Opel Earls, George Earls, Joel Earls and Arthur Earls, all of Mooresboro, Tracy Earls of Conover, John Earls of Bostic and Joseph Earls of Goldhill; and four sisters, Norma Keown of Mooresboro, Mary Drake of Gaffney, S.C., Judy Farmer of Cowpens, S.C., and Cynthia Bridges of Mooresboro.
The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Camps Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Stevhen Durham officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today an hour before the service at the church.

Edgar Williams Jr.
SHELBY - Mr. Edgar James "June" Williams Jr., 47, of 214 Maple St., died Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Kannapolis, he was a son of Eloise H. Williams of Shelby and the late Edgar James Williams Sr. He was retired from Flowers Bakery and was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Cleveland-Rutherford Kidney Association. He was an Army veteran.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Jermaine Jeter of Marion; a daughter and son-in-law, Sherri Manning and Shaun Grier Sr. of Shelby; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Phillip and Doris Williams of Kings Mountain and Jeffery and Shena Williams of Thomaston, Ga.; a special friend, Sheila Dixon of Shelby; five special grandchildren, Keonia Manning, Shaun Grier Jr., Asia Jeter, and Jasmine Jeter, all of Shelby, and Darius Jeter of Cherryville; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. James Smith officiating. Burial will be at Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church.
Enloe Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Mary Lee Allison, 80, of 696 S. Pink St., died Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Zion Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Roger Fuller officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the church.

William Dellinger
PATTERSON SPRINGS - Mr. William James "W.J." Dellinger, 85, of 2103 Cleveland Ave., died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late William Alonzo and Sally Lee Mayes Dellinger. He retired from the state Department of Transportation Bridge Department after 34 years. He was a member of Patterson Springs Baptist Church, where he was a former deacon and member of Triple L Senior Club.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, William Alonzo Jr.; a sister, Addie Boheler; and a son-in-law, Jimmy Biggers.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellis Dellinger; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jimmy Dellinger and Mike and Ann Dellinger, all of Patterson Springs; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Anne Biggers of Patterson Springs, Sherry and Duane Sando of Shelby and Wilda and Danny Arrowood of Earl; a sister, Elizabeth Boheler of Grover; 15 grandchildren, Jamie Biggers, Jonathon Biggers, Caroline Biggers, Angela Greene and husband, Tracy, Daryl Sando and wife, Tracy, Nicole Sando, Robert Arrowood, Nathan Arrowood, Brad Arrowood, Sonya Dellinger, Rhonda Dellinger, Steven Boley and wife, Bobbie Jean, Stephanie Humphries and husband, Tracy, Jodi Dellinger and Wendy Queen and husband, Michael; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Patterson Springs Baptist Church with the Revs. Steve Waters and Glenn Walker officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home, Shelby.

SHELBY - Mrs. Ella Mae Hopper Ross, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

BOSTIC - Mr. Harold Dean Roberts Jr., 33, of 177 Brooks Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Washburn and Dorsey Funeral Home in Bostic.

Howard Morris
CASAR - Mr. James Howard Morris, 82, of 515 Mount Zion Church Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 7, 1918, in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Robert Lowder and Zula Ledford Morris. He was a retired self-employed farmer and carpenter. He was a charter member of Morris Memorial Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and a Sunday school teacher. He was a member of the Casar Fire Department board of directors.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Bridges Morris of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Helen Morris of Casar; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shirley and Doug Blanton and Patsy and Dean Cook, all of Casar; two brothers, Carl Morris and R.L. Morris Jr., both of Morganton; four sisters, Nannie Hunt and Elizabeth Bridges, both of Casar, Margie Newton of Drexel and Jennie Roper of Morganton; four grandsons, Keith Morris and his wife, Angie, Darin Blanton and his wife, Lisa, Ereck Cook and Bryan Blanton; two granddaughters, Lisa Lutz and her husband, Chris, and Deitra Newton and her husband, Donny; three great-grandsons, Jason Bumgardner, Devin Morris and Corey Lutz; and three great-granddaughters, Lacie Morris, Ashley Lutz and Emily Lutz.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Morris Memorial Baptist Church with the Revs. Chris Emory and Dennis Bailey officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family received friends Friday at Stamey Funeral Home.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Edith Grantt Causby, 68, of 1238 Oak Grove Road, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at her home.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Jasper and Josie Grantt. She was a member of New Camp Creek Baptist Church. She retired from Dependable Knit in Kings Mountain.
She is survived by her husband, Alvin W. Causby of the home; one brother, John Grantt of Kings Mountain; and four sisters, Gladys Tessener of Kings Mountain, Peggy Thomas of Jamestown, Ohio, Elizabeth Grantt and Lallage Brooks, both of Shelby.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at New Camp Creek Baptist Church, with the Revs. Herman Pendleton, Doug Ramsey, Harold Hutchins and Jerry Brooks officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday night from 6:30 to 8 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at other times at the home, 1238 Oak Grove Road, Kings Mountain.
Memorials may be made to the Cleveland/Rutherford Kidney Association, 1017 N. Washington St., Shelby, NC 28150.

VALE - Mr. Hugh Willard Huffman, 81, of 7269 N.C. 10 West, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Brian Center, Hickory.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. William Kanupp officiating. The body will placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Rosie Humphries
SHELBY - Mrs. Rosie Moore Humphries, 89, of Cleveland Pines Nursing Center, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2001, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center.
Born Aug. 30, 1911, in Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Dixon and Annie Bell Johnson Moore. She was a homemaker and a member of Sandy Run Baptist Church in Mooresboro.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy O. Humphries; and three sons, Hayward Humphries, Gene Humphries and Edward Humphries.
She is survived by five sons and four daughters-in-law, Billy Joe and Janice Humphries of Swainsville, Garland and Jean Humphries of Boiling Springs, Charlie and Loretta Humphries of Cherryville, Dennis and Brenda Humphries of Cherryville and Scott Humphries of Shelby; two daughters and one son-in-law, Louise H. and Max Williams and Rose Marie Humphries, all of Shelby; one brother, Colel Moore of Kings Mountain; one sister, Bertha M. Holden of Gastonia; 15 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
The graveside service will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery with the Rev. Ricky S. Baker officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight at Palmer Mortuary from 7 to 8:30.

Mildred Gardner
HYATTSVILLE, Md. - Mrs. Mildred Alma Gardner Chaney, 80, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001.
She was preceded in death by her husband Owen B. Chaney; and daughter, Deborah Plant.
She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Chaney and Janice Robbins; a sister, Naomi DiVincenzo; four grandchildren, Dean Grasso-Robbins, Alex Plant, Jocelyn Plant and Ryan Chaney; and a cousin, Ellen Simpson of Shelby.
The funeral will be today at 11:30 a.m. at Gasch's Funeral Home in Hyattsville, Md. Burial will follow in Saint John's Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Hyattsville Volunteer Fire Department.
