KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Agnes Fredell Bowen, 70, of 728 Mary's Grove Church Road, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late William and Bessie Self Fredell. She retired from Kemet.
She is survived by one son, Boyce William Moses of California; one daughter and son-in-law, Patsy and Jimmy Foster of Kings Mountain; four brothers, Manuel Fredell of Vale, Coy Fredell of Kings Mountain, Foy Fredell of Shelby and Roy Fredell of Kings Mountain; four sisters, Annie Moses of Lincolnton, Mildred Hamrick of Indian Trail, Virgie Campbell of Kings Mountain and Essie Bivins of Lincolnton; one stepson, Dennis Bowen of Lattimore; one stepdaughter, Sandra Waldrep of Lawndale; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 in the chapel of Clay-Barnette Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce Davis officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Coy Fredell, 609 Oak Grove Road, Kings Mountain.
Eunice Moss
LAWNDALE - Mrs. Eunice Camille Champion Moss, 87, of 205 Southard St., died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was born Oct. 10, 1913, a daughter of the late Charles Sr. and Belle Shytle Champion. She was a homemaker and a member of Lawndale Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Darvin Moss, and a daughter, Jean Harkley.
She is survived by a granddaughter and husband, Celeste and Freddie Laughlin of Shelby; a sister, Kathleen Ledbetter of Kings Mountain; and two great-grandsons, James Laughlin and Torre Laughlin.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Stamey Funeral Home, Fallston, with the Rev. Cecil Buff and Jack Waters officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
Zula Howington
BOILING SPRINGS - Mrs. Zula Walker Howington, 89, of Crawley Memorial Hospital, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, at the hospital.
A native of Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late Javan and Susanne Wiggins Walker. She retired from Nu-Way Cleaners. She was a member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir and of the Serosis Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two husbands, Herman Alfred Howington and James Franklin Hamrick.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, James G. and Carol Hamrick of Alexandria, Va.; and three grandchildren, Penelope Hamrick, Jane Hamrick and James G. Hamrick Jr.
The funeral was Tuesday night at Boiling Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Bonnie Doughtie and Dr. Carroll Page officiating.
Burial will be today at 11 a.m at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family received friends Tuesday at the church fellowship hall.

GROVER - Mrs. Edna Lee Van Dyke Mullinax, 65, of 2625 Cleveland Ave., died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Cliff and Nancy Conner Van Dyke and was a homemaker.
She is survived by one son, Ernest Spurlin of the home; two daughters, Vera Goforth of Kings Mountain, and Patsy Marlow of the home; and four grandchildren, Jennifer Stancil, Christopher Marlow, Taylor Marlow and Haley Spurlin.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home, Cliffside, with the Rev. Barry Philbeck officiating.
Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.

SHELBY - The Rev. Walter Henry Banks, 75, of 620 E. Marion St., died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Hospice of Wendover.
A native of Greystone Park, N.J., he was a son of the late Robert and Nellie Farr Banks. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Gastonia, where he was an associate minister.
He is survived by his wife, Esther Stroman Banks of Shelby; three daughters, Paula Banks of Boston and Miriam Banks and Sarah Banks, both of Shelby; two sons, Walter Charles Banks of Greensboro and Timothy L. Banks of Brooklyn, N.Y.; eight grandchildren, Patricia Banks of Boston, Jay Banks and Sheri Banks, both of Greensboro, Andre Banks, Raven Banks, Jonathan Banks, Brianna Banks and Joy Banks, all of Shelby.
The funeral will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Samuel H. Barber Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Webb Memorial Cemetery in Shelby.
The family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes before the funeral.

Lloyd Welch
SHELBY - Mr. Lloyd Excell Welch, 79, of 1316 Barbee Road, Lot 10, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Gaston County, he was a son of the late Lloyd Oscar and Hattie Jones Welch. He was a retired plumber and was an Army veteran who served in World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Clara McCraw.
He is survived by his wife, Britt Lee Wood Welch; one stepson and stepdaughter-in-law, Greg and Sybil Hager of Conover; one stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Vicky and Joe Turner of Lawndale; one sister, Aileen Welch Arndt of Cleveland; and five stepgrandchildren, Cynthia Hord, Sandy Turner, Joe E. Turner II, Brian Hager and Leslie Hager; and five stepgreat-grandchildren, Joe E. Turner III, Christopher Turner, Lyhea Hager, Bradley Hager and Benjamin Hager.
There will be no formal funeral. The ashes will be interred on Topsail Island.

GAFFNEY, S.C. - Mrs. Hilda Louise Spencer Silver, 76, of Town and Country Apartments, Apartment 210, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at her home.
Born in Gaffney, she was a daughter of the late Aileen Eaker and Clauford Alonzo Spencer. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Shelby.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William James Silver, and a brother, Leonard Eugene Spencer.
She is survived by a nephew, Steve Glover of Gastonia; a sister, Christene Margaret Spencer Glover of Dallas; and a niece, Pamela Hoffman of Gastonia.
A graveside service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery with the Rev. Bill Pheagin officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Lutz-Austell Funeral Home, Shelby.

MOORESBORO - Mr. "John" Leroy Howard, 80, of 3332 Belaire Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Harrisburg, Pa., he was a son of the late Parker Blake and Elizabeth Eisenhower Sunday. He was a 1938 graduate of Milton S. Hershey High School in Hershey, Pa. He was a high school track star and played hockey on the M.S. Hershey High School team as a defenseman. He was a World War II veteran who served in the Army Corps of Engineers in the European Theater. He was a former employee of Phoenix Steel Corp. in Harrisburg and was a retired shop mechanic from Cone Mills Corp. in Cliffside. He was a member of Florence Baptist Church in Forest City.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Louise Givens Clark of the home; one son, Tom Sunday of Mooresboro; two grandchildren, Leighann Sunday Clark and Tommy Sunday; and a great-grandchild, Sean Thomas Clark.
A graveside service will be today at 2 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park in Forest City with Dr. Bobby Gantt officiating.

SHELBY - Mr. Keith Lamont Surratt Petty, 36, of 912 Foxcroft Drive, Apartment D, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at Hospice of Cleveland County.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Phyllis Petty and Leon Ager. He was a member of New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, William and Frances Ager.
He is survived by his grandmother, Clarice Sweezy of Shelby; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Edward and Elizabeth Surratt, Monte and Tonya Petty, Orlando and Shawn Ager and Leon Ager, all of Shelby; four sisters, Sabrina Petty of Atlanta, Drucilla Petty, Sharon Ager and Melody McGuire, all of Shelby; three special cousins, Tenisha Littlejohn and Detria Littlejohn, both of Shelby, and Yulonda Burris of Atlanta; a special niece, Tia Petty of Atlanta; six aunts, Clevie Littlejohn, Clara Thurston and Dorothy Ager, all of Shelby, Emma Harris of Durham, Gloria Jones of Suitland, Md., and Elizabeth Shoates of Charlotte; and four uncles, Alen Surratt of Richmond, Va., Michael Surratt of Atlanta, Steve Ager of Shelby and Joseph Ager of Cary.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at New Jerusalem Full Gospel Baptist Church with the Rev. Xavier Terrill officiating. Burial will be in Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends an hour before the service at the church or at other times at the home of Clarice Sweezy at 425 Crawford St., Shelby.

SHELBY - Mr. Raymond Lee Byers, 70, of 915 Sarratt Drive, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at his home.
Born on Jan. 11, 1931, in Tennyson, Ind., he was a son of the late Harold and Lillian Byers. He was a retired X-ray technician and was a member of Shelby Moose Lodge. He served in the Navy for 20 years.
He is survived by his wife, Lenora Church Potts of the home; a daughter, Patricia Hensley of Ocala, Fla.; four stepdaughters, Angela Oddo of North Huntington, Pa., Patricia Bugica of Mooresville, Laurie Kalman of Charlotte and Kristine Kalman of Shelby; two stepsons, William Kalman of Albany, Calif., and Michael Kalman of Knoxville, Tenn.; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Betty Geier of New Orleans and Eva Rose and Herchel Baugh of Evansville, Ind.; and a brother and sister-in-law, Paul "Jack" and Marcella Byers of Evansville, Ind.; and 13 grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Fambrough officiating.

LANDRUM - Mr. Sean N. Sellers, 21, of 205 Clarice Circle, died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001.
A native of Charlotte, he was a son of Terry and Suzanne Hall Sellers. He was a computer representative with the Phone Store and attended Landrum First Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Kyle Sellers of Greensboro; one sister, Claire Sellers of Landrum; grandparents, the Rev. Garvin and Mary Sellers of Breman, Ga., and Edna Hall of Clayton and the late Isaac Hall.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Landrum First Baptist Church with the Revs. Jerry Long and Otis Brady officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

HENRIETTA - Mr. Jack Waters Goode, 80, of 120 West Allen Drive, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late John Wesley and Dessie Wall Goode. He was an Army veteran of World War II and retired from Cone Mills, Florence Plant. He was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church, Henrietta.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Tommy Goode.
He is survived by his wife, Stella Putnam Goode of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and David Bowden of Lewisville; two granddaughters, Emily Bowden and Amanda Bowden; and two sisters, Mattie Crawley and Daisy Robbins, both of Forest City.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, with the Revs. Trey Gilliam and John "Pete" Bridges officiating. Burial will be in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.
