Danny Ritch
SHELBY - The Rev. Billy Daniel "Danny" Ritch Jr., 54, of 1500 North Post Road, Apartment 18, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born April 1, 1946, in Gaston County, he was a son of the late Billy Daniel Sr. and Stella Beatrice Bost Ritch. He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. He was a graduate of Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute, pastor of Providence Baptist Church in Kings Mountain and a church planter for the N.C. Baptist Association. He also worked for White Oak Manor in Shelby.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Hammel Ritch; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Marcus Ritch of Hammond, La., Shawn and Leslie Ritch of Calabash and David McClelland of Fort Pierce, Fla.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Connie Ritch of Hammond, Ursula and Larry Bundrum of Saucier, Miss., and Melissa and Jimmy Deal of Shelby; two brothers, Samuel Ritch of Sanford and Keith Ritch of Gastonia; five sisters, Jackie Robinson of Clover, S.C., Rebecca Whitted of Gastonia, Claudia Allen of Dallas, Jamie Snyder of Cherryville and Kelly Ritch of Lexington, Ky.; and 10 grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Friendly Chapel Baptist Church, with the Rev. Wade Boone officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home of Fallston.

ELLENBORO - Mrs. Pearl Philbeck Webb, 78, of 141 Lavendar Road, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ad Hopper officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

FOREST CITY - Mr. J.W. Griffin, 80, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001.

David Wimbush
LAWNDALE - Mr. David Lee Wimbush Sr., 77, of 2873 Selkirk Road, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 2, 1924, in Bibb County, Ga., he was a son of the late George and Cora Tremble Wimbush. He retired from Daniel Construction in Grover. He was a member of Masonic Lodge Clover Hill No. 10 in Lawndale and was a member of Emmanuel Memorial AME Zion Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 16 sisters and brothers.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Kee Wimbush; six sons and two daughters-in-law, David Jr. and Rebecca Wimbush of Lawndale, Thomas and Carolyn Wimbush of Shelby, Roy Wimbush of Shelby, Roger Wimbush of Lawndale, Bobby G. Wimbush of the home and Bobby Surratt of Shelby; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Helen and the Rev. Melvin Hush and Verna and Elgin Brown, all of Lawndale, and Christine Odoms of Shelby; one brother, Dump Wimbush of Hamtramck, Mich.; two sisters, Nellie Wimbush Vinson of Shelby and Essie Wimbush Byrd of Hickory; 19 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Lawndale First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bobby King officiating. Burial will be in Emmanuel Memorial AME Zion Church Cemetery in Lawndale.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service. At other times, the family will be at the home of the Rev. Melvin Hush, 2842-2 Toney Road, Lawndale.
Mary "River" Grier
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Mary Etta "River" Grier, 77, of 500 Margrace Road, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
Born on August 23, 1923, in Durham, she lived in Cherryville for several years before moving to Kings Mountain. She was a member of Humphrey's Chapel AME Zion Church in Dallas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James T. Grier, and a daughter, Jessie E. Grier.
She is survived by six sons and three daughters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Henery Lee Grier of Danbury, Conn., James T. Grier of Atlanta, John E. Grier, Everett C. Grier and Mr. and Mrs. George E. Grier, all of Kings Mountain; three daughters, Mary K. Grier and Helen A. Grier, both of Kings Mountain, and Gladys A. Grier of Gastonia; one brother, Linwood Rivers of New York; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and an extended family, Mrs. Claudia Grier Newman, Mrs. Betty Grier Presley, Mrs. Grier Gyton and Nathanial Grier, all of Kings Mountain.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Humphrey's Chapel AME Zion Church, Main Street, Dallas. Burial will follow at Mount Olive Cemetery in Kings Mountain.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church.

FOREST CITY - Ms. Diane Shelton, 31, of 136 South Broadway, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at the Elizabeth House in East Flat Rock.
The funeral will be today at 3:30 p.m. at the True Vine Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Johnny Sanford officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service.
Burial will follow the service in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in the Doggett Grove Community of Forest City.

Loyd W. "John" Witherspoon Sr.
CHATTANOOGA, TENN - Mr. Loyd W. "John" Witherspoon Sr., 86, of 7214 Ridgestone Drive, formerly of Cherryville, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at the Stratford House in Tennessee.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Shady Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Phil Ditz officiating. Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery in Cherryville with full military honors.

Olin Powell
CASAR - Mr. Olin Keith Powell, 61, of 208 White St., died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at his home.
A native of Cherokee County, S.C., he was the son of the late Broadus and Inez Hames Powell. He was an employee of Doran Textiles for 38 years and was a member of Cliffside Baptist Church.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Olin "Johnnie" and Randi Powell, Rickey and Tammy Powell and Brian and Melissa Powell, all of Shelby; one daughter, Sandra Ann Powell of Kings Mountain; one brother, Kenneth Powell of Boiling Springs; two sisters, Kay Price of Boiling Springs and Norma Terry of Cliffside; four grandchildren, Brian Collier, Lee Powell, Kyle Powell and Nicholas Powell; and a special friend, Barbara Smith.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home in Cliffside with the Rev. Charlie Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow in Cliffside Cemetery.

GAFFNEY, S.C. - Mrs. Myrtle Amos McCraw Champion, 84, of 310 Overhill Drive, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at her home.
She was the daughter of the late Elmer and Daisey Mosely Amos. She retired from the textile industry and was a Baptist.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Della Shields Amos; her first husband, Joe Claude "Fat" McCraw; and her second husband, Lloyd H. Champion.
She is survived by one daughter and one son-in-law, Patricia McCraw and Robert H. Snelling of the home; one foster daughter, Harriett Duckett of Gaffney; two brothers, Thomas Blackwell and A.Z. Blackwell, both of Charlotte; four sisters, Margaret Pace of Spartanburg, S.C., Lillian Eplee and Alpha Thrift, both of Mayo, S.C., and Blanche Blanton of Charlotte; one grandson; and two foster grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the chapel of Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Frederick Memorial Gardens.

SHELBY - Miss Cynthia Diane "Cynt" Brooks, 37, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born Jan. 15, 1964, in Cleveland County, she was the daughter of Lucrecia Thomas "Noot" Brooks and the late Joe Wess Brooks.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Roy and Rosa Bell Wright and Wess and Mildred Degree Brooks; three aunts; and five uncles.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by a sister, Shelia A. Brooks of Shelby; a brother, Leonard Huskey of Oakland, Calif.; a nephew, Travis T. Brooks of Kingstown; two nieces, Tonya Huskey and Peaches Huskey of Forest City; one great-nephew, Travis T. Brooks Jr. of Shelby; a very special friend, Terry Wright of Shelby; three aunts, Elizabeth Jones, Marie Poston and Hattie Mae Dawkins, all of Shelby; three uncles, Big Bill Brooks of Shelby, Grady Thomas and Emmett Thomas, both of Washington, D.C.; and many relatives.

Margaret Moore
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Margaret Short Moore, 75, of 317 Oak Grove Road, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late William Clyde and Vertie Susan Davis Short. She was a member of Patterson Grove Baptist Church, where she served as a children's Sunday school teacher for a number of years. She retired from Putnam's Hosiery.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. Frank Moore; a sister, Betty Mauney and two brothers, Bob Short and J.D. Short.
She is survived by three daughters and three sons-in-law, Carolyn and Richard Parsley and Linda and Don Dixon, all of Kings Mountain, and Sandra and Mike Bumgarner of Fort Bliss, Texas; four sisters, Maxine Putnam and Ruth Turner, both of Kings Mountain, Lois Eudy of Pageland, S.C., and Pat Moore of Marshville; five grandchildren, Kyle Bumgarner and Kirk Bumgarner, both of Fort Bliss, and Tommy Parsley, John Parsley and Keith Dixon, all of Kings Mountain; one great-grandchild, Christian Parsley; and one stepgreat-grandchild, Tony Baker.
