GASTONIA - Mr. Ulysses Simpson Webber Jr., 60, of 716 S. Weldon St., died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A native of Gaston County, he was a son of the late Ulysses S. Sr. and Fannie Moses Webber. He was a distributive lineman and a member of Humphrey's Chapel AME Zion Church in Dallas.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Lomick Webber of Gastonia; one daughter, Regina L. Webber of Gastonia; one son and daughter-in-law, Oliver M. and Pearla Webber of Gastonia; three granddaughters, Tykeytra S. Carr, Ashley Simpson and Brianna McKinney, all of Gastonia; one great-grandson, Jerimiah Carr of Gastonia; one sister, Beatrice W. Barrow of Gastonia; one brother and sister-in-law, Horace and Agnes Webber of Gastonia; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Humphrey's Chapel AME Zion Church with the Rev. James Woody officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.
Costner Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Myrtle Wilson
FOREST CITY - Mrs. Myrtle Edna W. Wilson died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at the Autumn Care of Forest City.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Harrelson Funeral Home, Caroleen.

Tyrone Brooks
SHELBY - Mr. Tyrone Douglas Brooks, 14, of 1526 Eaves Road, Apartment Q-1, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at home.
Born in Cleveland County, he is survived by his mother and stepfather, Fannie Brooks and Wallace Gregory of the home, and his father, Dan Archie of Boiling Springs. He was a student at Crest High School and attended Shoal Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandparents, Alex and Lorene Brooks of Shelby; two brothers, Antrail Archie and Daniel Fullove, both of Shelby; three sisters, Rashawn Brooks of the home and Tina Leach and Sherika Ross, both of Shelby; five aunts, Rhonda Brooks, Tillie Adams, Sylvia Gentry, Carolyn Webber and Annie Hines, all of Shelby; five uncles, Alex Brooks Jr., Laymond Strong, Tim Adams and J.P. Webber, all of Shelby, and Richard Whittenburg of Charlotte.
The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Shoal Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Isaac officiating.
Burial will be in Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church and at other times at the home of his grandparents, Alex and Lorene Brooks, 2013 Melrose Drive, Shelby.
Enloe Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

HUBER HEIGHTS, Ohio - Mr. Dan Kee Jr., 61, of 7447 Troy Manor Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Grandview Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.
The funeral will be Friday at noon at Maranatha Christian Fellowship with Dr. Truman L. Martin officiating. Burial will be in Dayton National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.

SHELBY - Mr. Christopher Pernell Wilson, 21, of 208 Ramblewood Drive, Apartment 32, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Ola Pruette
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Ola Falls Pruette, 92, of White Oak Manor and formerly of Grover, died Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at White Oak Manor.
A native of York County, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Thomas Henry and Susan Carroll Falls. She was a member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church of Grover, where she was an elder. She was also a member of DAR and United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was a retired seamstress.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Murray Council Pruette Sr.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, M.C. Jr. and Joanne Pruette of Kings Mountain; one daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and George Anton of Lake Park; three brothers, Herbert Falls and George Falls, both of Kings Creek, S.C., and John Falls of Columbia, S.C.; six sisters, Avalona Hembree of Taylors, S.C., Pansy Julian of Anderson, S.C., Veda Garrison and Dorthea Martin, both of Greenville, S.C., Frances Pennington of Gaffney, S.C., and Esther Holiday of Six Miles, S.C.; three grandchildren, Sharon Chapman and husband, Tim, of Kings Mountain, Jenifer McCachren and husband, Steve, of Shelby, Andrea Whitesides and husband, Tim, of Gastonia; and three great grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Shiloh Presbyterian Church in Grover with the Rev. Nancy Mugford officiating. Burial will be in Grover Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service in the church fellowship hall.

APEX- Ms. Novia W. Goode, 85, of Apex, formerly of Cliffside, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, in Apex.
A memorial service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home in Cliffside with the Rev. Charlie Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow in Cliffside Cemetery.
The family will receive friends after the service at the funeral home.

Bobby Spangler
KEY LARGO, Fla. - Mr. Bobby Lee Spangler, 72, of 616 Island Drive, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of Minnie Glascoe Spangler and the late J.L. Spangler. He was a retired insurance executive. He was also a Navy veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary M. Spangler; three brothers, Yates Spangler, Ab Spangler and Neal Spangler; and sister, Thelma Spangler.
He is survived by one son, Randall Lee Spangler of Littleton, Colo.; one daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Jeff Clark of Gastonia; a mother-in-law, Alice McGee of Ranlo; one brother and sister-in-law, Hugh and Addie Spangler of Shelby; and two grandchildren, Jason Spangler of Littlejohn, Colo., and Kyle Clark of Gastonia.
The memorial service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Ward Funeral Home in Gastonia with the Rev. David Vardaman officiating.
The family will receive friends an hour before the service at the funeral home.

Elsie Leu
PARMA, Ohio - Mrs. Elsie L. Kirschner Leu, 83, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, in Shelby.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Kirschner.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and John Drew of Louisiana; one son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Cheryl Leu of Cherryville; six grandchildren, Douglas Leu and his wife, Janice, Tracey Kelley, Michael Drew and his wife, Lisa, Sean Drew and his wife, Nicole, Amy Godwin and her husband, Dan, and Derek Drew and his wife, Francine; and three great-grandchildren, Brian Leu, Kristin Leu and Jared Godwin.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Busch Family Funeral Chapel in Parma, Ohio. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Aquilla Otte
MESA, Ariz. - Mrs. Aquilla Johnson Otte, 97, of Mesa died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001.
A native of Lattimore, she was the daughter of the late James Albert and Lora Manassa Bridges Blanton Johnson. She attended Appalachian State Teachers College and taught school in Cleveland County. She assisted in tending the switchboard in the Lattimore Telephone Exchange and was a former member of Lattimore Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Heinrick Otte; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, John Samuel and Garva Harrill Blanton and Whitson Durham and Selma Greene Johnson; and one sister and one brother-in-law, Mattie Lou and Alfred Paris Weathers. A daughter, Daisy Beatrix Otte Carter, died Jan. 15, four days after her mother.
She is survived by one son and one daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Albert Otte of Powell, Wyo.; one sister and brother-in-law, Bether Berniece and Russell William Dawson of Powell; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Burial was in Powell.
Cleveland Funeral Services is in charge of local arrangements.

LAWNDALE - Mr. William Hugh Angel, 64, of 737 Sugar Hill Road, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 17, 1936, in Lincoln County, he was the son of the late John William and Lillian Grigg Angel. He retired from maintenance with the City of Cherryville. He was a member of Friendly Chapel Baptist Church and Fallston Masonic Lodge No. 356.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Upton Angel, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Angela Angel and the Rev. Dale and Trina Angel, all of Lawndale; and three grandchildren, Haley Angel, Hannah Angel and Taylor Angel.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home with the Revs. Dale Angel and Wade Boone officiating. Burial will follow in the Friendly Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends an hour before the service and at other times at the home of the Rev. Dale Angel, 719 Sugar Hill Road in Lawndale.

GAFFNEY, S.C. - Mr. Jerry Lee Brooks, 59, of 545 Robbs School Road, died Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, at his home.
A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Ladd and Alice Padgett Brooks. He was a former owner and operator of Brooks Home Entertainment and a member of Grassy Pond Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline Reel Brooks.
He is survived by one son, Jeffrey Brooks of Gaffney; one daughter, Tessa Waldrop of Shelby; one stepdaughter, Lynn Davies of Chicago; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Grassy Pond Baptist Church with the Rev. Alan Peeler and Dr. Roger Aycock officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

CASAR - Mrs. Dessie Waters Melton Stewart, 81, of Casar, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at her home.
Born May 2, 1919, in Ruther-ford County, she was the daughter of the late Robert C. and Laura Turner Waters. She was a member of Casar Baptist Church, where she was a former choir member and a member of WMU. She was retired from Broughton Hospital and was a former beautician.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Romie J. Melton; and her second husband, Nalley Stewart; a son, Dennis Lee Melton; and a sister, Dean Maddox.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Sandy Melton of Shelby and Don and Brenda Melton of Casar; three stepdaughters and two sons-in-law, Brenda and Sidney Simmons of Morganton and Jan and Tom Hancock and Kay Irvin, all of Nebo; six brothers, Houston Waters of Casar, Dewitt Waters, Jesse Waters and James Waters, all of Hickory, Bill Waters of St. Augustine, Fla., and Charles Waters of Drexel; four sisters, Monty Stewart of Morganton, Veen Warlick of Casar and Clara Heafner and Sue Johnson, both of Hickory; three granddaughters and their husbands, Cindy and Greg Sain, Tammy and Dennis Hollifield and Kim and Ron McKee; a grandson and his wife, Chris and Kerrie Melton; two stepgranddaughters, Kristy Price and Kim Baker; and four great-grandchildren, Casey Sain, Alex Hollifield, Gray Burn and Madison McKee.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Casar Baptist Church with the Revs. Fred Mauney, Alton Martin and David Gordon officiating.
