Howard Arledge
MILL SPRING - Mr. Howard Luther Arledge, 76, of 557 Coopers Gap Road, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001.
A native of Mill Spring, he was the son of the late Russell Blaine and Minnie Halford Arledge. He was vice president and co owner of Metal Fabricators, Inc. of Greenville, S.C. He served in the Army.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Wilson Arledge.
He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Sandra G. Arledge of Greenville and Janice A. and Ed Blake of Shelby; two sisters, Velma Whitlock of Spartanburg, S.C., and Eula Millwood of Duncan, S.C.; and two grandchildren, Amy Blake Plonk and Russell Howard Blake.
A graveside service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville.
The family will receive friends after the service at the grave site.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
Mackey Mortuary in Greenville is in charge of arrangements.

Alma Randall
VALE - Mrs. Alma Bingham Randall, 97, formerly of Hebron Church Road, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at Lincoln Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. George Burton and David Shrum officiating. Burial will follow at the Hebron United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at the funeral home.

'Ronnie' Elmore
MORGANTON - Mr. Ronald "Ronnie" Franklin Elmore, 50, of the Western Carolina Center, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Carolinas Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Roy Franklin and Mary Evelyn Wells Elmore.
He is survived by one sister, Judy Elmore Gantt of Lawndale; one nephew, Michael Patrick Wilson of Lawndale; one niece, Kellie E. Wilson of Lawndale; and two special friends, Peggy Harrison and Gayle Pennell; and the staff of Cedarview Cottage.
A memorial service will be at 8:00 tonight at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel. A graveside service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Clover Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Horace Dubose officiating.
The family will receive friends an hour before the memorial service tonight.

Jewell Blanton
SHELBY - Mrs. Jewell Blanton of 1900 Polkville Road, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.

Margaret Harris
CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Margaret Walker Harris, 79, of 2421 County Line Road, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at White Oak Manor in Shelby.
A memorial service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Keith Love officiating. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home.

Bill Woods Jr.
SHELBY - Mr. William B. Woods Jr., 81, of 170 Columns Circle, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Tifton, Ga., he was the son of the late William B. Sr. and Sarah Jackson Woods. He was formerly employed by Baxter Corp. and Hoechst Celanese and was a member of First Wesleyan Church in Shelby. He served in the Navy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Jody Wright and Jewell Towery; two brothers, J.E. Woods and Woodrow Woods; and two grandchildren, Nicki Turner and Ronald W. Turner.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Horton Woods of the home; four daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Tommy Wright and Vickie and Steve Borders, all of Shelby, Patsy and Ronny Turner of Polkville and Trudy and Mark Diehl of Atlanta; four brothers, Clyde Woods and Jim Woods, both of Florida, Ted Woods of Shelby and R. L. Woods of Alabama; six grandchildren, Amy W. Ennis, Taffy W. Puckett, Travis Price, Carmen Diehl, Spencer Borders and Matthew Borders; four great-grandchildren, Piper Price, Caroline Puckett, Savannah Puckett and Jake Ennis.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Wesleyan Church with the Revs. Tommy Buchanan and Clarence Williams officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to First Wesleyan Church, 1542 Kings Road, Shelby, NC 28150.

Everett Hames
SHELBY - Mr. Everett R. Hames, 70, of 806 East Main St., died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at Hospice of Wendover.
A native of Ruther-ford County, he was the son of the late Floyd "Jack" and Florence Harris Hames. He graduated from Howard Business College and was employed as a cost accountant and labor controller at J.P. Stevens. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of First Baptist Church, York Rite Mason, Cleveland Lodge No. 202 and the Shelby Amateur "Ham" Radio Club.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Louise Hammett Hames; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Diane Hames of Lincolnton; one sister and brother-in-law, Eunice and Bill Jenkins of Cliffside; and one grandson, Hammett Hames of Lincolnton.
A graveside service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Frederick Memorial Gardens, Gaffney, S.C., with the Rev. Tony Tench officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wendover, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.

Jewell Blanton
SHELBY - Mrs. Jewell Bess Blanton, 1900 Polkville Road, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Dorus Hilary and Essie Lola Childers Bess. She graduated from Appalachian State University teachers school and Lenoir-Rhyne College. She retired after 40 years of service as a teacher. She was a member of Zion Baptist Church where she was a superintendent and taught Sunday school and was in the primary department for several years. She was an active member to the Democratic Party, vice chairwoman of her precinct. She belonged to numerous organizations.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Z. Blanton; three sisters, Ava Bess, Estelle Peeler and Dorothy Warner; and two brothers, Beverly Hall and Dorus Hal Bess.
She is survived by four sisters, Maltida Baxter of Lincolnton, Joyce Sniffin of Florida, Nellie Hair of Fayetteville and Knox Cobb of Waynesville; 18 nephews and nieces, Hal T. Baxter of Hickory, William and Betty Cole and James and Sarah Bacon, all of Georgia,, Millicent Shuflitowski of Florida, Hal and Kathy Bess and Larry and Priscilla Bess, all of Vale, Martha Hair and Robert and Kathy Worthman, all of Fayetteville, Stanley and Carolyn Handel of Texas, Jennifer Warner of New York, William and Diane Cobb of Winston-Salem, Hilary and Elaine Cobb of Clyde, Charlie and Knox B. Hardin of Canton, A.B. and Debra Blanton and Dorcus Barbee, all of Shelby, Frances and Graham Greene of Elkin, Edwin and Margaret Lancaster of Virginia and Hall and Janet Beck; and twelve great-nephews and nieces, Nancy Whiteside of South Carolina, Franklin and Janice Barbee, Steve and Betsy Boatwright and Jerald Eaker Hunter Blanton, all of Chapel Hill, Mike and Mary Blanton Avinger of Pittsboro, Amanda Blanton of Shelby, Abby Bess of Vale, Will and Wes Bacon of Georgia, Laura and Mason Cobb of Winston-Salem, Laurel and William Cobb of Clyde, Kara and Brittany Hardin of Canton and Brett Nicholls of New York; and a sister-in-law, Johnnie Blanton of Shelby.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Bridges officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 5 to 8 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to Zion Baptist Church, 525 W. Zion Church Road, Shelby, NC 28150.

William L. Bell
ASHEBORO - Mr. William Luther "Bud" Bell, 62, of 1733 Rocky Lane, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Randolph Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bell. He served in the Army and was a member of Pilgram Baptist Church, Ellenboro.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Freida Bell; and his brother, Jonas Bell.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara S. Bell of the home; one sister, Fern Crawford of Shelby; two brothers, Manuel Bell of Kings Mountain and Lowry Bell of Shelby; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be today at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Ridge Funeral Home with the Revs. Johnny Henderson and Randy Robbins officiating.
The family will receive friends an hour before the service and at other times at the home.

Rebecca Blakely
HENRIETTA - Mrs. Rebecca McAdoo Blakely, 99, of 266 Proctor School Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at her home.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Alec and Alice Padgett McAdoo. She was a housekeeper for Dr. T.C. Lovelace for 65 years. She was a member of New Zion Baptist Church in Henrietta where she was a Sunday school teacher for 40 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roscoe Blakely.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at New Zion Baptist Church with the Rev. John Gaston officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service.
Dockery's Home of Funerals of Shelby is in charge of arrangements.

Verner Galloway
SHELBY - Mrs. Verner Ree Coffey Galloway, 64, of 803 Tryon St., died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at her home.
A native of Forest City, she was the daughter of the late J. Hoyt and Virginia Whitener Coffey. She worked at Doran Textiles for 37 years and was a member of Landmark Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Bill Coffey; and two sisters, Frances Hyder and Mary Ella Jennings.
She is survived by her husband, the Rev. James Galloway of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Judy Galloway of Gaffney, S.C.; two grandchildren, Nathan Galloway and Nikki Galloway, both of Shelby; one great-grandson, Layne Galloway of Shelby; and a brother and sister-in-law, Leonard and Elizabeth Coffey of Shelby.
The funeral is today at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Cleveland Funeral Services with the Revs. Fred Tyler and Allen Davis officiating. Burial will be in Cool Springs Cemetery.
The family received friends Thursday at the funeral home and at other times will be at the home.

Kenneth Owens
FOREST CITY - Mr. Kenneth Ray Owens, 36, of Rutherford Manor Apartments, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001.
A memorial service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home in Cliffside with the Rev. John Greene officiating.

'Eddie' Evans
GROVER - Mr. Edward "Eddie" Fulton Evans, 42, of 516 Kilgore Road, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
Born in Cleveland County, he was the son of Lillie Ruth Kilgore Evans of Grover and the late Pledger Evans.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Vanessa and Dean Dabbs of Grover; and six aunts and five uncles.
The funeral is today at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Earl with the Rev. Simon McClain officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes before the service.

Iva Morrow
RUTHERFORDTON - Mrs. Iva Harrill Morrow, 84, of Oakland Living Center, 702 Poors Ford Road, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Spindale with Dr. Don Christian officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Crowe Funeral Home in Rutherfordton.

RUTHERFORDTON - Mr. Steedly L. Oliver, 74, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at his home.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Martha Smith Queen, 83, a resident of Guardian Care Center, Zebulon, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001 at her home.
