SPINDALE - Mrs. Zula Mae Hull Roberts, 93, of 102 Walnut St., died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Crowe's Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Samuel Roberts officiating. Burial will be in Wells Springs Church Cemetery.

LINCOLNTON - Mr. Paul David Garrison Jr., 66, of Cardinal Health Care, formerly of Salem Church Road, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001 at Lincoln Medical Center.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Salem Baptist Church with Dr. Charles Cranford officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Pryce Byrd Gibson
SHELBY - Mr. Pryce Byrd Gibson, 85, of 1425 East Marion St., formerly of Clemson, S.C., for 40 years, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at Sterling House of Shelby.
A native of Vinemont, Ala., he was the son of the late John Walker and Mary Emily Spiegel Gibson. He earned a doctorate in plant genetics from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, and a bachelors and masters degree from Auburn University (formerly Alabama Polytechnical Institute). He served as a captain in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Field Artillery Officer in the United States and in the Phillipines. He was a research scientist for the USDA Crop Division at Clemson University for 25 years, and was an associate professor at Auburn University for five years. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of America.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Rigler Gibson; a brother, John Gibson; and a sister, Blanche Gibson.
He is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Connie Gibson of Penn Yan, N.Y., Steve and Judy Gibson of Shelby, and Bill and Barbara Gibson of Grand Junction, Colo.; one daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Jeff Jennings of Hendersonville; one sister, Buena Gibson Martin of Hartsell, Ala.; and seven grandchildren.
A graveside service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Herring Cemetery in Hartselle, Ala.
The family will receive friends Saturday night from 5 to 7 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home in Shelby and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Peck Funeral Home in Hartselle.

James Melton Williams
SHELBY - Mr. James Melton "Tank" or "Sonny" Williams, 55, of 419 Suttle St., died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at his home.
Born May 8, 1945, in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Rev. George and Lizzie Mae Williams. He worked as a truck driver for Shelby Concrete and was a self-employed welder. He was also a carpenter and an auto mechanic.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Rodney Parker; one sister, Hazel Burris; and one brother, James Arthur Williams.
He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Willie Mae Williams; one daughter, Kimothy "Lady" Hamrick of Travelers Rest, S.C.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Eric and Betty Hamrick and James and Sherona Hamrick, all of Shelby; one sister and brother-in-law, Vernice and S.S. Howell of Waco; one brother and sister-in-law, J.R. and Lena Ross of Shelby; one aunt, Clara Louise Williams of Shelby; one uncle, Leroy Collins of Charlotte; five grandchildren, LaChanda Hamrick, LaErica Hamrick, Haley Hamrick, Eric Hamrick Jr., and Terrick James Hamrick; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at West Side Praise and Worship Center with the Rev. Donagrant McCluney, MDIV officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the chapel of Genesis Funeral Service.

SHELBY - Grace Lynn Coffey, infant daughter of Michael Scott and Melinda Warner Coffey Sr., of 1805 Creek Ridge Road, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at Park Ridge Hospital in Fletcher.
She was born Feb. 22, 2001.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by three brothers, Michael Scott Coffey Jr., Jonathan Coffey, and Adam Coffey, all of the home; paternal grandparents, Mike and Janet Coffey of Indianapolis; maternal grandparents, Don and Judy Warner of Granville, Ohio and Russell and Mary Wilkie of Newark, Ohio; and a great grandmother, Lois Gantt of Columbus, Ohio.
The funeral will be Saturday at 10:30 A.M. at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Kings Mountain with Dr. Charles Sarratt officiating.
A graveside service will follow the church service.

SHELBY - Tyqualin Rha'shon Morris, 14-month-old infant son of Tarazetta Black and Kevin J. Morris of Shelby, died Sunday, Feb. 18, 2001, at his home.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, James R. Parker Sr.; and two uncles, James R. Parker Jr. and Robert L. Black.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Dashawn O. Surratt and Ladarius K. Surratt; one sister, Kyle Hydea M. Morris; four aunts, Kelly N. Black, LaQuita S. Black, Sharon D. Parker and Donna Morris, all of Shelby; five uncles, Detria Morris, Johnny Morris, Anthony Morris, Steven Morris and Marshall Ratchford Jr.; two grandmothers, Sherria L. Black and Jeannette Morris; two grandfathers, Marshall Ratchford and Joe Morris; a great-grandfather, Paul Lewis Bostic; four great-grandmothers, Maggie D. Washington, Ernestine Rice, Rosa Lee Parker and Annie Wray Ratchford, all of Shelby; a great-great-grandmother, Mary E. John Ross
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. John Austin Ross, 42, of 412 Stoney Point Road, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of Jeanette Anthony Ross of the home and the late Garvis Ross Sr. He was a construction worker for Willis Construction Co. and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was a 1977 graduate of Kings Mountain High School.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Keith Ross.
In addition to his mother, he was survived by his former wife, Judy Helton Ross; a brother, Garvis "Joe" Ross Jr. of Kings Mountain; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Judy and Richard Russ and Verleene and Randy Blanton, all of Kings Mountain, and Rachel and Greg Clanton of Gastonia; a godchild, Brandy Lail; and special friends, D.J. Helton, Jessie Bridges, Michael Blanton and Stacy Nottage; and longtime employer, Michael Willis and his wife, Linda.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Caulder officiating.

SHELBY - Mrs. Edna Lola Hord, 89, of 201 Elizabeth Ave., died Saturday, Feb. 24, 2001, at White Oak Manor.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late George Clifton and Emma Lucretia Lee Hord.
A graduate of Asheville Business College, she was a librarian for the Rutherford County Library and a retired office manager with Nehi Bottling Co. of Shelby. She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church in Lawndale and an avid gardener.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Morris Hord, Craven Hord, Forrest Hord, Lawrence Gilbert Hord and George Hord Jr.; four sisters, Mae Callahan, Della Borders, Lela Putnam and Lucretia Norman.
She is survived by a brother, Russell Thomas Hord of Shelby; a sister, Gazzie Putnam of Rutherfordton; and a number of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church with the Revs. Ronell Owensby and Jeff Brendle officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

LINCOLNTON - Mr. Paul David Garrison Jr., 66, of Cardinal Health Care and formerly of Salem Church Road, died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at Lincoln Medical Center.
Born May 14, 1934, in Gaston County, he was a son of the late Paul and Florence Stines Garrison. He retired from J.P. Stevens and was an Army veteran.
He is survived by one son, Paul David Garrison III, of Andrews Air Force Base; two daughters, Barbara G. Quickel of Lincolnton and Linda Allen of Kings Mountain; one brother, Thomas Wilson Garrison of Lincolnton; and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at 11 a.m. at Salem Baptist Church, with Dr. Charles Cranford officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

SHELBY - Mr. John Henry "Pee Wee" Thompson Jr., 50, of 609 Carlos St., died Thursday, Feb. 22, 2001, at his home.
He was a son of the late John Henry and Louizer Hopper Thompson. He was a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church, where he sang in the All-Male Choir, the Mass Choir and the Blacksburg All-Male Chorus. He was a former employee of Shelby Dye and Finishing.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Kay Thompson; three sons, Nicholas C. Thompson, Timothy Nance and his wife, Becky, and Allen D. Nance, all of Shelby; two daughters, Kimberly Marable and her husband, Eric, and Catina Smith and her husband, Carl, all of Shelby; four sisters, Novella T. Kelly and her husband, Henry, of Gaffney, S.C., Modestine Good and Kay Woods, both of Columbia, S.C., and Isabella Logan and her husband, Charles, of Shelby; one brother, the Rev. Willie H. ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Mrs. Parthenia Etchison Jackson died on Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2001, at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore.
A native of Cleveland County, she was born Nov. 9, 1926, to the late Squeair and Gertrude Durham Etchison. She was a member of Eskridge Grove Baptist Church until she moved to Alexandria in 1957. There she was an active member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse J. Jackson; and her son, Scotty Jackson.
She is survived by her granddaughter, Francis DeLoach of Alexandria, Va.; a special cousin, Ada Matterson, of Alexandria; a foster daughter, Hattie Burris of Gastonia; two sisters, Ezolar Dawkins of Morristown, N.J., and Piccola Etchison of Baltimore; three brothers, Luke Etchison of Winston-Salem and Esquire and Timothy Wardell Etchison, both of Newark, N.J.; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Monday at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 909 Queen St., Alexandria, VA 22314.
