Eva George
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Eva Ballard George, 96, of 301 E. Parker St., died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at her home.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late John Franklin and Laura Amelia Lawing Ballard. She was a member of First Wesleyan Church in Kings Mountain, where she was a former choir member. She retired from the textile industry.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Ivey George Sr.; a son, Harold Dean George; a son-in-law, Dean Payne; three brothers, James Ballard, Samuel Ballard and Charles Ballard; and four sisters, Gertie B. Roper, Roberta B. Ellison, Pauline B. Ware and Mildred Ballard.
She is survived by four sons and their wives, John and Sara George and Kenneth and Becky George, all of Kings Mountain, Richard and Sally George of Virginia Beach, Va., and Curtis and Mary George of Statesville; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Melba G. Payne, Frances G. and Gary Sarvis and Pansy G. and Horace Cunningham, all of Kings Mountain; one sister, Carrie Guyton of Great Falls, S.C.; one daughter-in-law, Micky George Wright of Shelby; 21 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at First Wesleyan Church with the Rev. Donald L. Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Christine Carpenter Houser, 87, of 302 Old Post Road, died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be at Wednesday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church with the Revs. Michael Collins and Timothy Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends following the service in the church sanctuary.

Zeno Wall Jr.
GATLINBURG, Tenn. - Mr. Zeno Wall Jr., 88, of Gatlinburg, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at the Doak Walker Care Center in Steamboat Springs, Colo.
A native of Mount Olive, Miss., he was the son of the late Dr. Zeno and Ada Ramsey Wall. He graduated from Shelby High School and attended Gardner-Webb University and Wake Forest University. He was employed by American Enka Corporation, was subsequently director of the Gatlinburg Chamber of Commerce and later worked for the Brookshire Resort. He served as a deacon in the First Baptist Church of Gatlinburg, as well as serving as city commissioner and mayor of Gatlinburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth L. Wall; a brother, Yates Wall; and a sister, Abbie Harris.
He is survived by two daughters, Zee Bacon of Steamboat Springs and Wynne Budniak of Louisville, Ky.; one son, Zeno Wall III of Crested Butte, Colo.; four grandsons; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Ada Fanning of Davidson; and one brother, the Rev. Woodrow Wall of Shelby.
The body was bequeathed to the University of Colorado School of Medicine. A private service was held at Peterson Funeral Home in Steamboat Springs.

Harry Lund Jr.
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Harry Lund Jr., 65, of 109 Heritage Drive, died Monday, March 5, 2001, at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
A native of Pontiac, Ill., he was the son of Marie Wilson Lund of Tallahassee, Fla., and the late Harry Lund Sr. He was a member of Pathway Baptist Church in Kings Mountain. He was a retired truck driver and more recently was a custodian and bus driver at Kings Mountain Middle School.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one sister, June Lund, and one brother, James Lund.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Darlene Bailey Lund of Kings Mountain; a son, Steven Lund of Raleigh; two daughters, Dena Vess of Cherryville and Lisa Mauney of Mooresville; a sister, Joan Briggs, Tallahassee, Fla.; and six grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with the Rev. James Hamrick officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday night from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home.

George Silvers
SHELBY - Mr. George Lavern Silvers Jr., 54, of 809 Forest Hill Drive, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at his home.
A native of Wise County, Va., he was the son of the late George Sr. and Joyce Harvey Silvers. He was employed at H&H Pest Control Service as sales manager. He was in the Army during the Vietnam War and served with the 101st Airborne Division. He was an avid golfer, playing in many tournaments, and a member of the U.S. Golf Association.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Scott Silvers, and a grandchild.
He is survived by his wife, Pat St. Charles Silvers; a daughter, Pam Silvers Ferguson of Johnson City, Tenn.; six brothers, Glen Silvers, John Silvers, David Silvers, Allen Silvers, Charles Silvers and William Silvers, all of Johnson City; two sisters, Carolyn Furches Gray and Brenda Scott, both of Johnson City; and one grandchild.
The funeral will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Grace Fellowship Church with the Revs. Kenny Ashley and Ken Pruitt officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service, and the family will receive friends at that time.
Burial will be Thursday at 3 p.m. with military honors at Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City.

Eunice Hands
LAWNDALE - Mrs. Eunice Hands, 89, of 104 Douglas Road, died Friday, March 2, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 2, 1911, in Jones County, Ga., she was the oldest child of the late Walker and Winnie Dophus Ussery. She was a member of Pine Grove Primitive Baptist Church and was baptized by her father, the founder and pastor of the church.
She was a domestic worker, a homemaker and a member of the Home Demonstration Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Jesse Hands; a son, Paul Hands; and three brothers, Benjamin Ussery, Lee Colman Ussery and Joe Primous Ussery.
She is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, Jesse Jr. and Sandra Hands of Detroit, Benny Hands of Lawndale and Inora Hands of Cleveland; a daughter and son-in-law, Gladys Hands and Jimmie Kee of Cleveland; three granddaughters she reared as her children, Venus, Vetissia and Cynthia; three sisters, Annie Mae Williams, Noami Griffin of Lawndale and Ruth Smith of Detroit; six sisters-in-law, Victoria Ussery of Charlotte, Essie Ussery Haynes of Lawndale, Beatrice Atkinson of Chicago, Rosia M. Grigsby of Cincinnati, Neita B. Foster of Detroit and Fannie Hands of Macon, Ga.; a brother-in-law, Hugh Hands of Roberta, Ga.; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Pine Grove Primitive Baptist Church with Elder James Bentow officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

LINCOLNTON - Mr. Charlie "Pop Charlie" Manning, 90, formerly of 1482 Little Valley Lane, Lincolnton, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at Vencor Hospital in Greensboro.

IRON STATION, S.C. - Mrs. Fannie Marie Lomax, 89, of 2810 Southmont Road, died Monday, March 5, 2001, at Lincoln Medical Center.

Marshall McCraw
SHELBY – Mr. Marshall Alvin McCraw, 77, of 334 E. Double Shoals Road, died Fri-day, Feb. 16, 2001, at his home. Born July 26, 1923, in Boiling Springs, he was a son of the late Clarence and Geneva Godfrey McCraw. He was the retired owner-operator of Marshall’s Grocery and worked for Dairy Herd Im-provement Association. He was a charter member of Upper Cleveland Rescue, where he also served on the board of directors, and was a member of Upper Cleveland Chamber of Com-merce. He served on the board of directors for UCAN and was a member of Double Shoals United Methodist Church and the Board of Commissioners of the Upper Cleveland Sanitary Dis-trict. He was a sergeant in the Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater, where he received a Bronze Star. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Bowen McCraw; and two brothers, Miles McCraw and Easley McCraw. His is survived by a foster family, Mark Champion, Sharon Champion, Heather Champion, Amy Champion and Josh Champion, all of Shelby; two sisters, Ruby Black of Shelby and Beuna Bowen of Bessemer City; and nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Double Shoals United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Reep officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Peter Patrick and Ruthie Ray Poston Stubbs. He was a chemist at Catawba Nuclear Plant. He was a member of the American Chemical Association and of the Blossom Music Festival in Ohio. He was a past governor for Toastmasters of Ohio. NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Mr. Charles Elford Waldrop, 87, formerly of Rock Hill, S.C., and Shelby, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001. A native of Gaffney, S.C., he was born Dec. 1, 1913, a son of the late the Rev. Henry Elford and Mary Gold Whistnant Wal-drop. He retired as a district sales manager for American Breeders service from W.R. Grace Co. He was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church in Shelby and a former member of Deer Park Baptist Church in Newport News and Oakland Baptist Church in Rock Hill. He is survived by his wife, Burleigh Wortman Waldrop; two daughters and one son-in-law, Gayla C. Meyer of Nokesville, Va., and Lynda W. and Larry Brumfield of Yorktown, Va.; and seven grandchildren. A native of Lincoln County, she was a daughter of the late John Sanders Foster. She was a member of Patterson Grove Baptist Church and retired from the textile industry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Edwards; two brothers, Dan Foster and Howard Foster; and two sisters Ellen Foster and Pearl Scism. She is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Patsy Foster of Kings Mountain and Michael and Mary Foster of Gastonia; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. KINGS MOUNTAIN - Ms. Sharon Elizabeth Ellis, 17, of 308 Countryside Road, died Tuesday, March 6, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she is survived by her father and stepmother, Ronald Paul and Betty Edwards Ellis and her mother and stepfather, Donna Watkins and Darrell Putnam, all of Kings Mountain. She was a senior at Kings Mountain High School and was employed at McDonald's of Kings Mountain. She was a partner in Putnam's Racing. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Dustin Putnam, and maternal grandmother, Sharon Beam Watkins.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by one sister, Amanda M. Edwards of Kings Mountain; two brothers, Jeremy Putnam of Kings Mountain and Joshua Timms of Clover, S.C.; grandparents, Robert and Ann Ellis of Forest City, Mary E. Goins of Shelby and Ted Watkins of Shelby; and a great-grandfather, Wayne Beam of Cherryville.
The funeral will be Friday at 4 p.m. at Patterson Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. J.R. Robbins and David Webb officiating. Burial will be in Oak View Baptist Church Cemetery.

Rosa Lee Campbell
HICKORY - Ms. Rosa Lee Campbell, 94, formerly of Hickory, died Sunday, March 4, 2001, at Lenoir Care Center.
A native of Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Dora Mae Austin. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Fred Campbell.
She is survived by two daughters, Dora C. Knox of Hickory and Lavenia Alexander of Statesville; three grandsons, Robert L. Knox, Johnny Glenn Knox and Byron Knox, all of Hickory; and four granddaughters, Rosemarie Glass and her husband, Shandy, of Stone Mountain, Ga., Dora M. Knox of Newton, Rose Ettia Tucker and her husband, Frank, of Hickory and Cynthia K. Lipford and her husband, Tony, of Granite Falls.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Dirk M. Thompson Mortuary with the Rev. Emory Powell officiating. Burial will be in Ridgeview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday an hour before the service.
