Chalmer Hamrick
SHELBY - Mr. Chalmer Bunion "Jim" Hamrick, 80, of 200 Seattle St., died Friday, March 9, 2001, at his home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late David and Eliza Carswell Hamrick. He was member of Lily Baptist Church and was a retired fixer from Dover Mill Co.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Willie "Bill" Self Hamrick.
He is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jimmy Hamrick and Bruce and Faye Hamrick, all of Shelby; one daughter and one son-in-law, Sheila and Claude Burns of Union, S.C.; three brothers, Archie Hamrick and Johnny Hamrick, both of Shelby, and Dewey Hamrick of Cherryville; four sisters, Eva Lou Champion of Shelby, Martha Greene of Boiling Springs, Lib Morehead of Morganton and Catherine Oliver of Polkville; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Lily Memorial Baptist Church with Dr. Ernest Arnold officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at other times the home.

CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Charlotte Ann Truelove, 61, of 1200-1 Old Post Road, died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at her home.
A native of Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Virginia Bivins Costner. She worked in the maintenance department of Wal-Mart. She was also a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Paul Truelove Jr.
She is survived by one son and one daughter-in-law, James "Rick" and Barbara Truelove of Shelby; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Jerry Mayes of Cherryville; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Danny and Fidelia Barber and Scott and Lynn Costner, all of Cherryville; one sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Dave Owens of Cherryville; three grandsons, Evan Truelove, Jeremy Mayes and Justin Mayes; and three granddaughters, Sarah Truelove, Tiffany Truelove and Beth Mayes.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Barry Camp officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery.

EARL - Mrs. Ruth Carolyn Earl, 75, of 2729 Blacksburg Road, died Friday, March 9, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Baldwin County, Ga., the daughter of the late Odus and Mary Harrison Ramsey. She was a homemaker and member of New Hope Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hundley Gale Earl; three brothers, Norris Ramsey, Carl Ramsey and Frank Ramsey; and three sisters, Willie Hallyburton, Katie Webb and Ollie Abernathy.
She is survived by a son, Billy Joe Earl of Earl; a daughter, Barbara Gail Earl of Earl; and a grandchild, Ashley Kendrick Earl of Shelby.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. David Gordon officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A native of North Wilksboro, she was the daughter of the late Tal Stacy and Ethel Dix Barnes. She was a homemaker and a member of Literario Book Club, Cicila Music Club and Junior Charity League of Shelby.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Livingston Johnson; a son, Wingate Johnson; and a brother, Tal Barnes.
She was survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Duncan and Cindy Johnson of Clemmons and Donald Johnson of Wasilla, Alaska; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Dr. Tom Smith of Thomasville and Nancy and Ken Davis of Greensboro; five grandchildren, Wingate Smith and Wiley Smith, both of Thomasville, and Matt Davis, Jennifer Davis and Megan Davis, all of Greensboro.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Shelby Presbyterian Church with Dr. Luke Harkey officiating.
Burial will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Spring Hill Cemetery in Wagram.

SHELBY - Mrs. Shirleen Hopper Degree, 57, of Preyer St., died Thursday, March 8, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cleveland County on Dec. 23, 1943, she was the daughter of Mary L. Hopper and the late Winford Surratt. She was a member of Mountain View Baptist Church,where she served on the usher board.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth L. Degree, and a brother, Raymond Hopper.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Gerome "Jerry" Degree; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Terry D. and Renee Degree, Kenyon G. Degree and Raymond Corley, all of Shelby; three daughters and a son-in-law, Deborah D. and Pierre Davis and Camilla Degree, all of Shelby, and Betty Sherrill of Hickory; two brothers, Harvey L. Hopper of Shelby and Coleman Surratt of Lincolnton; nine grandchildren, Shermunda L. Sherrill, Termario Q. Degree, Sherrod M. Degree, Raymond D. Corley, Curshia Y. Sherrill, Marlandrio D. Degree, Shaquilla M. Corley, Romello M. Byers, Tervonda S. Degree; a special friend, Amanda Hopper; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church with the Revs. Lawrence Roseboro and J.Q. Camp officiating. Burial will be at Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery.

SHELBY - Mr. Chalmers "C.B." Buren Greene, 57, of 508 Borders Road, died Friday, March 9, 2001, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of Maebelle Dobbins Ledbetter and the late Harlan Vue Greene. He grew up in Grover and graduated from Kings Mountain High School in 1962. He attended UNC Charlotte. He was retired from the Navy Reserves and the National Guard. He was a salesman for Eco Lab Pest Eliminators of Charlotte. He was a member of Landmark Baptist Church and Shelby Shag Club.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Christopher Buren Greene of East Tennessee State University; two daughters and a son-in-law, Courtney Renee Greene of the home and Paula Renee and Danny Lawrence of Gastonia; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Pharis L. Greene of Shelby and Billy H. and Ruth Greene of Cherryville; and two sisters, Margaret G. Wright of Shelby and Helen G. Leigh of Charlotte.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Landmark Baptist Church with the Rev. Allen Davis officiating. Burial with military rites by the Navy Honor Guard will follow the service at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.

A native of McDowell County, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Dollie Elliott Bryant. She was a homemaker and a member of Temple Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert W. Blanton; a daughter, Lavonda B. Powell; a stepson, Jim "Bones" Blanton; two brothers, Don Bryant and Devanny Bryant; and a sister, Stella Bingham.
She is survived by a daughter, Gail Laney of Boiling Springs; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Pat Blanton of Shelby and Carroll and Mildred Blanton of Shelby; one stepson and his wife, Bill and Elaine Blanton of Shelby; a daughter-in-law, Dora Blanton of Shelby; a sister, Betty B. Allison of Baltimore; one sister-in-law, Garnell Bryant of Cherryville; 10 grandchildren, Dale Blanton, Keith Blanton, Mark Blanton, Dwayne Powell, David Kiser, Kay Wallace, Wendy Panther, Sherry Evans, Kim Panther and Lindsey Kiser; five great-grandchildren, Trent Bowling, Corey Eaton, Dalton Panther, Brea Kiser and Nickolus Powell; and one great-great-grandchild, Hunter McKinley Bowling.
A graveside service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Sunset Cemetery with Dr. Ernest Arnold and the Rev. David Fambrough officiating.
