Georgia Holland Humphries
SHELBY - Mrs. Georgia Holland Humphries, 91, of Fairhaven Nursing Home in Bostic, formerly of Mount View Circle, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at the nursing home.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the Bundy Starland and Cora Lee Chapman Holland. She was a member of Drury Dobbins Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Buren W. Humphries Sr., and two sons, Harold Humphries and Robert Humphries.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Grayson and Peggy Humphries and Buren Jr. and Bernice Humphries, all of Shelby, and Earl Humphries of Gaffney, S.C.; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Cora and Don Petty and Diane and Ronnie Patterson, all of Shelby; three half-sisters, Gertrude Cooper, Ozel Williams, both of Shelby, and Catherine Patrick of Kings Mountain; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The graveside service will be Friday at 11 at Drury Dobbins Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Nancy Petty and the Rev. Curtis Gilstrap officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Cora and Don Petty, 1784 New House Road, Shelby.
Memorials may be made to Sandy Plains Baptist Church, 2112 New House Road, Shelby, NC 28150.

Mary Alexander
LAWNDALE - Mrs. Mary Ruth Alexander, 84, of 119 Fruitwood Drive, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Lavonia, Ga., she was born Sept. 10, 1916, the daughter of the late William Edward and Flossie Temo Hicks Alexander. She attended Fallston Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Bonnie Gates, and two brothers.
She is survived by two sons and two daughters-in-law, Bobby and Janet Alexander of Lawndale and J.D. and Bea Alexander of Maiden; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Beulah and Gene Self, Louise and Coy Self and Brenda and Bobby Houser, all of Lawndale, Della and Howard Williams of Cherryville and Carolyn Ward of Rutherfordton; four brothers; two sisters; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Fallston Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Norton officiating.
Burial will be in New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home, Fallston.

Lloyd Buchanan
LAWNDALE - Mr. Lloyd Buchanan, 66, of 714 E. Double Shoals Road, died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Yancey County Feb. 3, 1935, he was a son of the late Austin and Maude Huskins Buchanan. He worked at Bernhardt Furniture Co. and was a member of Ledford Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Norris Buchanan.
He is survived by his wife, Maudine A. Evans Buchanan of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Marvin and Tonya Buchanan of Fallston; a son, Jeffrey Buchanan of Burnsville; a daughter and friend, Deann Peterson and Benny Hamrick of Shelby; a stepson and his wife, Mark and Kim Evans of Fallston; two stepdaughters and their husbands, Sherry and Terry Jackson and Donna and Jimmy Blankenship of Grover; five brothers, Eugene Buchanan of Hickory, Worley Buchanan and Phillip Buchanan of Burnsville, Roy Buchanan of Spruce Pine and Larry Buchanan of Connecticut; three sisters, Virginia Smith of Spartanburg, S.C., Edith Smith of Marion and Irene Williams of Spruce Pine; a granddaughter and her husband, Amber and Jeramie Matson of Burnsville; and a great-granddaughter, Cheyenne Matson.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel in Fallston, with the Revs. Jackie Price, R.W. Davis and Doug James officiating. Burial will be at Sandy Run Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.

FOREST CITY - Mrs. Pauline Brindle Nodine, 72, of 125 Oak Ridge Drive, died Saturday, March 17, 2001, in Park Ridge Hospital.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Crowe's Funeral Chapel in Rutherfordton, with the Rev. George Whitmire officiating. Burial will be in Smith Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

SHELBY - Mr. Eugene McGill, 82, of 6025 Deep Green Drive, died Friday, March 16, 2001, at Gaston Medical Center.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Ellis Chapel, with the Rev. W. B. Ellis officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes before the service.

Calvin Andrews
LINCOLNTON - Mr. Calvin Lewis "Pookie" Andrews, 20, of 1011 Georgetown Road, formerly of Cleveland County, died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, in Lincoln County.
The funeral is today at 4 p.m. at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Waco, with Dr. James E. Montgomery officiating. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church before the service, and at other times, at the home of his parents, 111 Goddard Road, Shelby.

Kimberly Pruett
LAWNDALE - Mrs. Kimberly Hastings Pruett, 24, of 103 Nature Lane, died Saturday, March 17, 2001, in Edgefield County, S.C.
She was born in Cleveland County April 5, 1976. She was a homemaker and a member of Lawndale Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Timothy Brady Pruett of the home; her father and stepmother, John D. Jr. and Betty Hastings of Connelly Springs; her mother and stepfather, Diann and Steve Gardner of Shelby; a son, Levi Brady Pruett; and two daughters, Halley Annette Greene and Alishia Markayla Pruett, all of the home; a brother, John Mark Hastings of Edgefield, S.C.; three stepbrothers, Jason McGee, Keith McGee and Lawrence McGee of Connelly Springs; a grandfather, John D. Hastings Sr. of Lawndale; grandmothers, Jeanette Bivins of Lawndale and Lucille Gardner of Shelby; and great-grandmothers, Vangie Lou Terry of Polkville and Minnie Bridges of Shelby.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Lawndale Baptist Church, with the Rev. Paul Williams officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home of Fallston. At other times, the family will be at the home of Lena Bryte Jones, 1446 Casar-Lawndale Road, Lawndale.

Juanita Newton
HICKORY - Mrs. Juanita Hudson Newton, 67, of 305 32nd St. Place, S.W., died Friday, March 16, 2001, at her home.
The funeral is today at 2 p.m. at Longview Baptist Church, with the Rev. Arthur Kreidel officiating. Burial will be in Catawba Memorial Park.
Bass-Smith Funeral Home of Hickory is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Bright
FOREST CITY - Mrs. Dorothy Hardin Bright, 78, of 1126 Piney Ridge Road, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at Oak Grove Health Care Center in Rutherfordton.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Crestview Baptist Church, with the Revs. Boyce Gregory, Kevin Rhom and Steve Hardin officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harrelson Funeral Home in Caroleen.

Fred Mintz Sr.
POLKVILLE - Mr. Fred Dee Mintz Sr., 89, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at Hospice of Wendover.
A native of Alexander County, he was the son of Charles Decator and Virginia Ruth Mintz. He was a former cotton, dairy and beef cattle farmer. He was a charter member of Polkville Baptist Church, where he was a former treasurer, trustee and chairman of the deacons. He was the director of Ruthe-rford Electric Member-ship Corporation for 55 years and served as board president for 23 years. He was also the director of Polkville Volunteer Fire Department. He served 12 years on the Polkville School Board, where he was the former director of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Board. He served as an instructor for the occupational courses taught to returning World War II veterans. He was a Mason for 62 years and a former master of Camp Call Lodge 534. He was a member of the Cleveland County Gideons. He was a former member of the Grange and a member of the Cleveland County Farm Bureau. He served on the Cleveland County Chamber of Commerce Board and as Delight precinct chairman. He retired after 12 1/2 years as a Cleveland County magistrate.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Virginia Turner.
His is survived by his wife of 69 years, Lillian Whisnant Mintz of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Dee and Diane Mintz of Polkville; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Ann and Max Boggs of Fallston, Pat and Coy Crawford and Judy M. Fernald of Greensboro; a brother-in-law, Lee Turner of Gastonia; three granddaughters and their spouses, Phyllis and Andy Elmore of Fallston, Amy and William Cable of Hickory and Natalie and Rob Anagnostis of Atlanta; five grandsons and their spouses, Andy and Mary Boggs of Fallston, Brad and Wendy Crawford of Rocky Mount, Darryl and Beth Crawford of Staunton, Va., Trey and Kelly Mintz of Orlando and Todd Mintz of Gastonia; three stepgranddaughters, Erica Blanchard and her husband, Jeff, of Polkville, Kathy Hoyle of Casar and Rebecca Hoyle of Polkville; a stepgrandson, Dustin Hoyle of Lawndale; nine great-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Polkville Baptist Church with the Revs. Alton Martin and Charlie Cabaniss officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Masonic rites.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at Stamey Funeral Home.

BOSTIC - Mr. Henry Miles Ruppe, 84, died Thursday at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home in Cliffside with the Rev. Phil Raines officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Spindale.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Lillian W. Nolen
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Lillian Wylie Nolen, 76, of 916 Brookwood Drive, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Stanley Total Living Center in Stanley.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Docia Cornwell Wylie. She was a member of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church and retired from Eaton Corp.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Burwell Stokes Nolen; and one brother, Misher Shehan.
She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Gregory S. Nolen and Gary E. and Jody Nolen, all of Kings Mountain; one sister, Reba Raef of Vancouver, Wash.; three grandchildren, Alex Nolen of Atlanta, Danielle Collins and her husband, Bill, of Charlotte and Riley Bragg and her husband, Andy, of Kings Mountain; and one great-grandchild, Kaytlyn Bragg.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Mitchell Pruitt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home.

BALTIMORE - Mrs. Verda O. Moran, 55, formerly of Lake Lure, died Sunday, March 11, 2001.
A native of Lake Lure, she was the daughter f Mary Pernetta and Leonard Logan Sr. of Lake Lure.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Saint John Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Edgar L. Waters Jr. officiating. The body will be placed in the church an hour before the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Jerry 'Mike' Champion Sr.
MOORESBORO - Mr. Jerry Michael "Mike" Champion Sr., 48, of 127 Lucas Lane, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born July 9, 1952, in Cleveland County, he was the son of Bob and Virginia Philbeck Champion of Shelby. He was employed by PPG Industries. He was a 1970 graduate of Shelby High School and graduated from Cleveland Community College with honors in industrial management. He was a member of Christopher Road Baptist Church, a past scout master for Boy Scout troop No. 401 and served in the Army.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Cathy Beatty Champion of the home; a son, Jerry Michael Champion Jr. of Mooresboro; a daughter and son-in-law, Melanie Champion and Robbie Mullinax of Mooresboro; a sister and brother-in-law, Debbie Champion and Bill Jones of Clover, S.C.; two granddaughters, Michaela Mullinax and LeeAnn "Sissy" Mullinax, of Mooresboro; and two nieces, Lynn Jones and Ashley Jones, both of Clover.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Christopher Road Baptist Church with the Revs. Mickey Heyward and Don Williams officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home, and other times at the home.
