William Mathis
ELLENBORO - Mr. William Odus Mathis, 74, died Friday, March 16, 2001, at Century Care of Shelby.
A native of Cherokee County, S.C., he was the son of the late Oscar and Ellie Hamrick Mathis. He was a retired textile worker and a member of Gantts Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Lourine Willis Mathis, and a daughter, Mary Anne Ruppe.
He is survived by three sons, Charlie Mathis of Spindale, Jimmy Mathis of Boiling Springs and Douglas Mathis of Ellenboro; a daughter, Mildred Turner of Ellenboro; two brothers, Horace Mathis and Charles Mathis, both of Shelby; a sister, Margaret Wyatt of Kings Mountain; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Gantts Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Carris Owens officiating. Burial will be in Sandy Run Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home.
Lela Boone
RUTHERFORDTON - Mrs. Lela Dimsdale Boone, 93, died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at the home of Carolyn and Randy Dedmon in Cliffside.
A native of Polk County, she was the daughter of the late Pheltius and Julie Biddy Dimsdale. She was a member of New Testament Assembly Church in Spindale.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dillard Elijah Boone, and two daughters, Vivian Bailey and Lillian Skipper.
She is survived by three sons, L.D. Boone of Charlotte, Robert Boone and Johnny Boone, both of Rutherfordton; eight daughters, Edith Hall Arrowood of Union Mills, Juanita Walker, Nellie Raxter and Shirley Allen, all of Gastonia, Agnes Allen of Cary, Carolyn Dedmon of Cliffside, Eartha Huskey of Forest City, and Inez Wess of Shelby; two sisters, Nellie Zito of Gastonia and Ocie Laughter of Charlotte; 31 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at McMahan's Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Michael Dalton and Robert E. Boone officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at McMahan's Funeral Home. The family headquarters will be at the home of Carolyn and Randy Dedmon, 484 High Shoals Church Road, Cliffside.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Clista Williams Cole, 77, of 404 Belevedere Circle, died Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at Century Care of Shelby.
The daughter of the late Clarence and Marie Williams, she was a member of Good Hope Presbyterian Church, where she served as church secretary, trustee and member of the stewardship and finance committees.
She is survived by her husband, James Edward Cole; and a sister, Ardata W. Sweat of Kings Mountain.
The funeral will be Monday at 1 p.m. at Good Hope Presbyterian Church with the Rev. State Alexander officiating. Burial will be at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service.

ATLANTA - Joshua Benjamin Shauf, infant son of Scott and April Shauf of Atlanta, died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Northside Hospital in Atlanta.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandparents, Al and Becky Shauf of Cordele, Ga., and Betty Hoyle of Kings Mountain; and his great-grandmother, Mrs. Elton Buchele of South Bend, Ind.
A memorial service will be held today at 3 p.m. at Peachtree Baptist Church in Atlanta. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday at David Baptist Church Cemetery in Kings Mountain.

GAFFNEY, S.C. - Mr. Dennis Lee Ivey, 48, of 2246 Boiling Springs Highway, died Friday, March 16, 2001, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
A native of Cherokee County, S.C., he was the son of Mary Humphries Ivey and the late Robert Ivey. He was a supervisor with Hoke, Inc. in Spartanburg, S.C., and a member of Lavonia Baptist Church.
In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by a brother, Felton Ivey.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Sherry Hamrick Ivey of the home; two daughters, Lacy Ivey and Haley Ivey, both of Gaffney and two stepsons, Travis Dixon of Shelby and Kevin Dixon of the home.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Camps Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Steve Durham, Bill Hannon and Buddy Moorehead officiating. Burial will be at Camps Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

LINCOLNTON - Mr. Calvin Lewis "Pookie" Andrews Jr., 20, of 1011 Georgetown Road, died Tuesday, March 13, 2001, in Lincoln County.
Born Oct. 8, 1980, in Cleveland County, he was the son of Calvin and Joyce Andrews Sr. He was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Waco. He worked for AAA Moving and Storage Co. of Lincolnton.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Willie and Marie Kee and Henry Andrews.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a daughter, Breona Wright of Lincolnton; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Karen and Byron Ellis Sr. of Lincolnton and Terika Andrews of Shelby; his grandmother, Violet Andrews of Lincolnton; a nephew, Byron Ellis Jr. of Lincolnton; three special friends, Toot, Travis and Dementias; and his uncles and aunts.
The funeral will be Monday at 4 p.m. at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. James E. Montgomery officiating. The body will be placed in the church two hours before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

SHELBY - Mr. C.S. Hendrick, 83, of 2239 McBrayer Springs Road, died Monday, March 19, 2001, at White Oak Manor.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born May 1, 1917, the son of the late Chesley Sylvester Hendrick and Mary Spangler. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He served in the Army during World War II in the Pacific.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, A.D. Hendrick and Milburn Hendrick, and two sisters, Ophelia Hendrick and Americas Wilson.
He is survived by his wife, Revella Hoyle Hendrick of the home; two sons, Bobby Hendrick of Shelby and Randall Hendrick of Lawndale; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Sadie and Jake Lail of Shelby and Susann and David Camp of Asheboro; one brother, Doyle Hendrick of Shelby; two sisters, Beatrice Hamrick of Shelby and Mary Ruth Crenshaw of Gastonia; five grandsons, Keith Hendrick, Jeff Hendrick, Marty Lail, Scott Lail and Brandon Camp; two great-grandsons, Jerry Hendrick and Justin Hendrick; and one special friend, Ann Hendrick of Shelby.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Brian Pearson King, 21, of 4305 Prescott Court, Wilming-ton, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, in Wilming-ton.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of Billy F. and Linda Pearson King of Wilmington and a senior at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. A communications student, he worked as an intern in the distance learning center. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one brother, Billy F. King Jr. of Wilmington; grandparents, Roy and Elvia Smith Pearson and Willis and Frances Mills, all of Kings Mountain; two aunts and two uncles, Joan and Steve Baker and B.L. "Butch" and Margaret Pearson Jr., all of Kings Mountain; and cousins, Isaac Pearson and Jack Pearson.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Kings Mountain with Dr. John Sloan and the Revs. Shane Doty and Morris Jordon officiating. Burial will be in the Mountain Rest Cemetery.

SHELBY - Mr. Willie Durham, 85, of 305 S. Poston St., died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center.
A native of Blythewood, S.C., he was born March 23, 1915, the son of the late Boycie and Lela Durham.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Joe Durham, David Durham, Paul Durham and Walter Durham.
He is survived by his wife, Willette Durham; three sons, Melvin Durham, Leslie Durham and Vernon Durham; one daughter, Beverly Durham; two brothers, Alan Durham and Tom Durham; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Roberts Tabernacle Church with the Rev. Carolyn Briggs officiating. Burial will be in Webb Memorial Cemetery.

HIGH POINT - Mrs. Arrie Bell McCluney McCoy, of 7541 Sunnyvale Drive, died Friday, March 16, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Amanda Wade McCluney. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Earl and later a member of First Emmanuel Baptist Church in High Point. In her later years she attended the St. Stephens Adult Day Care.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bill McCoy; five brothers, Gary, Claude, Andrew, Curtis and Will; and two sisters,, Inez and Rosetta.
She is survived by one daughter and a son-in-law, Rosa Lee and Leroy Tate of the home; one niece raised as a daughter, Thelma Smith of Washington; five grandchildren and their spouses, Joe and Mary Tate, Henrietta and Tommy Briley, Sylvia Woke, Karen Tate and Lenette and Troy Burris; six great-grandchildren, Dederrick Bennett, Talita Briley, Tommy Briley Jr., Michael Tate, Cecilia Woke, Larry Burris; and two sisters, Elvira Smith and Mattie Lee Smith.

She is survived by two daughters, Cheryll Whelchel and Reba Monk, both of Gaffney; one son, Harold Allison of Gaffney; three sisters, Geneva Goforth of Rutherfordton, Sylvia Wyatt of Boiling Springs and Hazel Frazier of Gaffney; two grandchildren, Douglas Allison of Gaffney and Susan Monk of Milton, Fla.; one great-grandchild, Christopher Allison of Gaffney; and two stepgrandchildren, Mandel Whelchel of Granite Falls and Mitchel Whelchel of Newton.
