Walter "Bud" Collier
ELLENBORO - Mr. Walter Earl "Bud" Collier, 56, of 230 Seaboard Road, died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Trenton, N.J., he was the son of Katie Lou Greene Collier of Ellenboro and the late John Earl Collier. He was a truck driver for Conway Southern Express. He was a member of Mount Lebanon Baptist Church where he was a deacon.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Carol McCann Collier; two sons, Bud Collier Jr. of Bostic and Bryan Collier of Ellenboro; two daughters, Lisa Collier and Shelley Collier, both of Ellenboro; two brothers, Kevin Collier of Ellenboro and Steve Collier of Union, N.J.; two sisters, Liz "Sis" Blanton of Ellenboro and Joyce Collier of Union, N.J.; one grandson, Patrick Caleb Collier of Ellenboro; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Mount Lebanon Baptist Church with the Revs. Paul White Jr. and Tom Elkins and Dr. Robert Toney officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

SHELBY - Ms. Martha Ellen Oakes, 53, of 411 W. Circle Drive, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at her residence.

SHELBY - Mr. Ernest H. Scruggs, 72, of 2009 Maple Springs Church Road, died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

George Williams
SHELBY - Rev. George Williams, 83, of 419 Suttle St., died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, at Century Care.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late George Oliver and Alice Rippy Williams. He had been retired for 10 years. He worked as a farmer for Webb Farms for 35 years. He was a member of Westside Praise and Worship Center on Blanton Street.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lizzie Williams.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, James and Jean Williams and J.R. and Lena Ross, all of Shelby; two daughters and one son-in-law, Vernice and S.S. Howell of Waco and Mrs. Hazel Burris of Charlotte; one sister, Clara Louise Williams of Shelby; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Westside Praise and Worship Center with the Rev. Donagran McCluney officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns.

Charles Knight Sr.
FALLSTON - Mr. Charles Vernon Knight Sr., 85, of 120 Circle Drive, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Laurens County, S.C., he was born on Dec. 28, 1913, the son of the late M.M. and Virginia Littlefield Knight. He was a retired agriculture teacher. He taught for Cleveland County Schools and Cleveland Community College. He was a member of Fallston Baptist Church, the Bliss Center Senior Citizens and the Upper Cleveland Senior Citizens Satellite Center Group. He was a former member of the NCAE, the NEA and the NCATF. He was a former member and president of Fallston Lions Club. He was a graduate of Clemson University and a U.S. Air Force veteran who served in World War II as a weather officer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Wayne Knight, and two sisters, Vera Kate Adams and Louise Knight.
He is survived by his wife, Rejina Ramsey Knight of Fallston; one son, Chuck Knight of Fallston; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ginger and Ronnie Spangler of Lawndale and Jan and Peter Link of Golden Valley; and six grandchildren, Will Knight, Josh Spangler, Luke Link, Katie Spangler, Drew Link and Annie Knight.
A memorial service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Fallston Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Norton officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home and other times at the home of Ronnie and Ginger Spangler, 803 W. Double Shoals Church Road, Lawndale.

SHELBY - Mrs. Rebecca Ellen Jones Queen, 54, of 238 N. Post Road, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, at her residence.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Dewey Smith and Gussie Ray Beam Jones. She was a housewife and former English teacher at Burns High School. She was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Steve L. Queen; one son, Adam Queen of the home; two daughters, Carmen Queen and Emily Queen, both of the home; one brother, William S. "Bo" Jones of Shelby; five sisters, Wilhelmina Howell, Betty Ruth Price and Nora Lona Waters, all of Shelby, Linda Martin of Grover and Dede Melton of Polkville.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Elizabeth Baptist Church with the Revs. Fred Mauney and Jeff Brendle officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

SHELBY - Mrs. Sally Ann Chapman Lemons, 91, of 1101 N. Morgan St., Century Care, died Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, at her residence.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Jacob David Chapman and Cynthia Margaret Louisa Dorinda Clementine Allen. She was retired from Ora Mill where she worked as a spinner. She was a member of Westview Baptist Church. She was a lifetime member of the Eastern Star, Chapter No. 110.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Horace Lemons; two brothers, Robert G. Chapman and John Rufus Chapman; and five sisters, Mary Magdaline Wright, Lela Elizabeth Hardin, Nancy Jane Hamrick, Hester Roxanna Putnam and Lily Belle Cartee.
She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Brackett officiating.

SHELBY - Mr. Ernest Hassam Scruggs, 72, of 2009 Maple Springs Church Road, died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Boiling Springs, he was the son of the late C.H. and Effie Blanton Scruggs. He was a retired farmer and a Navy veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Carl Scruggs; and one sister, Rachel Funderburk.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Holland Scruggs; two sons, Charles Scruggs of Rutherfordton and Larry Scruggs of West Jefferson; one daughter, Phyllis Connor of Shelby; one brother, Irvin Scruggs of Shelby; three sisters, Janie Floyd of Lawndale, Mary Carpenter of Shelby and Betty Hendrick of Mooresboro; 3 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.

SHELBY - Mr. Carroll Dean Taylor, 62, of 604 Falcon Circle, died Thursday, Sept. 16, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Lincoln County, he was the son of the late James and Annie Lee Canipe Taylor. He was retired from Carolina Freight where he worked as a truck driver.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine Cook Taylor; two sons, Ronnie Taylor of Waco and Danny Taylor of Shelby; one daughter and son-in-law, Sherrie and Jay Thomas of Shelby; one half brother, Dale Taylor of Vale; five half sisters, Joan Rollins and Barbara Bolton, both of Hickory, Ruby Propst of Conover, Carolyn Abernathy and Linda Taylor, both of Cherryville; and two grandchildren.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Maven Queen Seabolt, 81, of 106 N. Cansler St., died Wednesday, Sept. 15, 1999, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Walter Pierce and Essie Cecil Jenkins Queen. She was was the retired owner of United Upholstery and a homemaker. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Kings Mountain.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dorsey Monroe Seabolt.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, James and Anne Gamble of Florence, S.C.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Martha Ann and Charles Howle and Betty Jean and Johnny Jackson, all of Oak Island, and Harriett Jane and Jimmy Conn of Cheraw, S.C.; ten grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Inez Canipe Hoppes, 87, of 716 Sipes St., died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late John Thomas and Charlotte Lattimore Canipe. She was retired from J & C Dyeing Inc. She was a member of Union Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Max Benjamin Hoppes.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Forrest and Linda Hoppes of Shelby, David and Brenda Hoppes of Boiling Springs and Scott and Merle Hoppes of Kings Mountain; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sadie and Bob Ledford of Midland, Mary Jeane Hoppes of Polkville and Martha Deane and Nathan Williamson of Lincoln, Ala.; two sisters, Mary Mosteller of Longview and Evelyn Bridges of Shelby; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Fredrick "Jabo" Robbs
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Fredrick Bernard "Jabo" Robbs, 29, of 129 Huntseat Lane, died Monday, Sept. 13, 1999, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born on Oct. 4, 1969, the son of Bishop Eugene Brooks and Diane Robbs of Shelby. He was employed at ABB Inc. and Quality Metals. He was a graduate of Crest High School and Western Carolina University. He played in the Shrine Bowl Game in Charlotte on Dec. 13, 1986.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his stepmother, Shirley Brooks of Shelby; his grandparents, Joe and Betty Robbs, Odessa Robbs and John Brooks, all of Shelby; his great-grandmother, Victoria Hartgrove of Shelby; his wife, Tamaro Quenette Robbs of Shelby; six daughters, Tiffany Hartgrove, Temecia Robbs, Jamari Robbs, Jericka Ross, Shontaia Moore and Alexis Craig, all of Shelby; two sons, Tyreze Littlejohn and Jasmond Gust, both of Shelby; two brothers, Brian Brooks and Min. Blair Brooks, both of Shelby; one sister, Melinda Brooks of Shelby; one stepbrother, Chris Williams of Shelby; and many relatives and friends.
The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Ellis Chapel Baptist Church in Patterson Springs with Pastor W. B. Ellis officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Ms. Ruth Wells Horn, 50, of 609 Bell Road, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of Marshall and Ethel Whetstine Wells of Kings Mountain. She was a member of Family Worship Center Church of God in Kings Mountain. She was employed by Ruppe Hosiery.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Julie Horn and Eric Hicks of Kings Mountain; two brothers, Steve Wells and Don Wells, both of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Vickie Wells of Kings Mountain and Elaine Walters of Shelby; and one grandchild, Erica Hicks.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Family Worship Center with the Rev. Roger Woodard officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
