Rev. Willie McEntyre
ELLENBORO - The Rev. Willie Junior McEntyre, 69, of Ellenboro, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at his home.
A native of Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Willie and Dora Burgess McEntyre. He retired from Waldensian Bakeries and was a member of Cooper Springs Congregational Holiness Church.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Spurlin McEntyre; two sons, Ron McEntyre of Ellenboro and Jerry McEntyre of Union Mills; two daughters, Diane Ramsey of Bostic and Janice Champion of Shelby; one brother, Joel McEntyre of Mooresboro; three sisters, Margie Archer and Shirley Carroll, both of Shelby, and Evelyn White of Greenville, S.C.; eight grandchildren; and four great - grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Cooper Springs Congregational Holiness Church, with the Revs. Henry Morris Jr., Melvin Raulerson and Kenneth Lytle officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home.

FOREST CITY - Mr. David Williams, 58, of 128 Jerico Way, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at his home.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Harmon Street Baptist Church, with the Rev. Tom Frady officiating. Burial will be at Cool Springs Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Harrelson Funeral Home in Caroleen.

Bernard Dover
CHINA GROVE - Mr. Bernard Eric Dover, 50, of 109 Main St., formerly of Ellenboro, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at Hospice at Wendover in Shelby.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Zion Hill A.M.E. Zion Church in Henrietta, with the Rev. Tony Giles officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church tonight from 7:30 to 9 and at other times at the home of Abby Rogers Mooney, 133 Hedgeland Drive, Forest City.

HARRIS - Mrs. Dorothy Luke Harris, 83, of Harris, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001, in North Palm Beach, Fla.

Ann E. Keeter
COLUMBIA, S.C. - Mrs. Ann Ellis Keeter, 65, of Columbia, S.C., died Thursday, March 22, 2001.
A native of Shelby, she was the daughter of the late Bruce Herbert and Vivian Adams Ellis. She was a member of Park Street Baptist Church and a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Keeter of Columbia; a daughter, Lisa Ann Keeter of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three sons and two daughters - in - law, Christopher Scott and Heather Hocamp Keeter of Mount Pleasant, S.C., John Mark and Mary Catherine Keeter of Fort Leavenworth, Kan., and Stuart Thomas Keeter of Raleigh; four grandchildren, Alex Keeter, Molli Keeter, Carson Keeter and Ellie Keeter; four brothers, William Ellis of Chapel Hill, Herbert Ellis of Mount Pleasant, Thomas Ellis of Shelby and Edward Ellis of San Francisco; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. at Park Street Baptist Church, 2204 Park St., Columbia, S.C., with the Revs. Danny Gray and Bill Solomon officiating.

D. Burgin Costner
GASTONIA - Mr. D. Burgin Costner, 91, of Lowell, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Joseph Houston and Florence Wellmon Costner. He was a member of St. Peters United Methodist Church. He served in the Army during World War II in France and was a retired service technician from Duke Power Inc.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Childers Costner; and a brother, Clyde Costner.
He is survived by a daughter, Nancy Costner of Gastonia; a son and daughter - in - law, Jim and Ann Costner of Lowell; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at McLean Funeral Directors Founders Chapel, with the Rev. Bill Miller officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at St. Peters United Methodist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Linda Bumgardner Moore, 47, of 1534 York Road, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at her home.
Born in Cleveland County, she was the daughter of Virginia Moore Bumgardner of Kings Mountain and the late Ralph Arnold Bumgardner. She belonged to First Wesleyan Church and was secretary of Bridges & Son Trucking.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Bobby Rae Moore of Kings Mountain; a daughter and son - in - law, Karen and Shane Acuff of Camp LeJeune; three brothers and sisters - in - law, Donnie Ray and Mary Jane Bumgardner of Monroe, Ga., Jerry Wayne and Sallie Bumgardner of Surfside Beach, S.C., Thomas Arnold and Pam Bumgardner of Kings Mountain; and a granddaughter, Stephanie Acuff.
The funeral will be Saturday at First Wesleyan Church, with the Revs. Don Williams and Robbie Moore officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.

A graveside funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Norman Hubbard officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the Padgett & King Mortuary in Forest City. At other times, the family will be at the home of a son, Mike Ellis, 260 Emory Ave., Forest City.

Billy Martin
SHELBY - Mr. William Dean Martin, 32, of 57 Heritage Lane, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Oakland County, Mich., he was the son of Edward E. Jr. and Patricia R. Martin. He was a member of Christ Covenant Church and was a 1986 graduate of Shelby High School.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Edward Wayne Martin of Shelby; two sisters and brothers - in - law, Pamela and Christopher Thoresen of Cincinnati and Bonnie and Michael Thigpen of Port Charlotte, Fla.; one nephew, Logan Martin; and five nieces, Krystal Martin, Tess Thoresen, Haley Thoresen, Abigail Thigpen and Hannah Thigpen.
A memorial service will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Christ Covenant Church with Pastor Doug Murphy officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.

Margaret Ann Hopper
ASHEVILLE - Miss Margaret Ann Hopper, 64, formerly of 820 Colonial Manor in Shelby, died Wednesday, March 21, 2001, at Beverly Health Care.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Daisey Bell Hopper. She was a member of Hopper's Chapel Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Tereasa Hopper of Shelby; a brother, Junel Huddleston of New Jersey; four sisters, Edna Howard of Shelby, Georgia White of Gaffney, S.C., Jenni Rae Winnex of Greensboro and Rebecca Byers of Charlotte; and two grandchildren, Angela Hopper and Terrance Hopper.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Hopper's Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. Wilbur Hines officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial lawns.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church.

Marcus Beam
WACO - Mr. Marcus Henery "Mark" Beam, 44, of 3240 Waco - Fallston Road, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at his residence.
Born Nov. 28, 1956, in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Marcus Everette and Alda Parker Beam. He was self - employed and retired from Winn - Dixie in Charlotte. He was a member of Blessed Hope Baptist Church and a 1975 graduate of Burns High School.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Kendrick Beam, of Lawndale; two daughters, Amanda Beam and Alisa Beam, both of Lawndale; a special aunt, Mildred Parker; and a special friend, Sonny Champion.
A memorial service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter's Funeral Home with Brother Tony Hardin and the Rev. Fred Helms officiating. Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Minnie Waters
LEXINGTON - Mrs. Minnie Chloe Weaver Waters, 88, of 17 Cornelia Street, formerly of Weaver Street in Cherryville, died Thursday, March 22, 2001, at Lexington Health Care Center.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Free Saints Chapel in Cherryville with the Rev. Charles Swicegood officiating. Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:30 to 1:45 at the church.

Pierce Cassedy Jr.
GREENVILLE, S.C. - Mr. Pierce Anderson Cassedy Jr., 78, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
A native of Short Hills, N.J., he was the son of the late Dr. Pierce Anderson and Callene Trimmer Thomas Cassedy. He was a resident of the Tryon community for 17 years. As a boy, he studied at the choir school of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City. He later attended the Pingry School and was a member of the class of 1943 of Amherst College. He served as a Navy pilot during World War II in the Pacific Theatre, flying the complete repertoire of Navy planes. He remained active in the Navy Reserves for 20 years as a lieutenant commander.
His career in the textile industry involved international as well as domestic travel, which resulted in many enduring friendships. He was president of Picanol USA and later was president of Ruti Corporation, both in Charlotte. He retired in 1987 from Sulzer - Ruti, Spartanburg, where he helped the Swiss company place weaving machinery in textile manufacturing operations throughout the U.S.
In Tryon, he was active in Holy Cross Episcopal Church, serving as lector, chalice bearer, treasurer and member of the vestry. He volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and coordinated fund - raising activities for the Heart Association. He had a lifelong association with the Republican party.
He was a member of Tryon Country Club, Catawba Yacht Club in Lake Wylie, S.C., and the Pass - a - Grille Yacht Club in St. Petersburg Beach, Fla.
He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed skiing, hiking, canoeing, camping and golf. He also loved sailing and flying. He was an avid reader, and music - jazz, classical, big band - was a part of his everyday life.
He is survived by his wife, Ursual Schwanke Cassedy; three daughters and sons - in - law, Corinne Cassedy and Gerald Maier of Edmond, Okla., Marsha Cassedy and Lee Griffin of Charlotte and Jane Cassedy and William McDonald of Atlanta; one son and daughter - in - law, Pierce and Elizabeth Nagy Cassedy of Chapel Hill; eleven grandchildren, Marc Maier of Charlottesville, Va., Lisa Maier of Atlanta, Morgen Maier of Edmond, Hadley Griffin of Charlotte, Callene Cassedy and Coleman Cassedy, both of Chapel Hill, Katie McDonald, Graham McDonald, Marshall McDonald, William McDonald and Julia McDonald, all of Atlanta; one brother, Marshall Royal Cassedy of Tallahassee, Fla.; one stepsister, Betty Knost of St. Petersburg Beach; and many nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Cassedy will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Holy Cross Episcopal Church, with the Revs. Lynda Moore and Pierce Klemmt, rector of Christ Church, Alexandria, Va., and Mr. Cassedy's nephew, officiating.
Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Episcopal Church, 150 Melrose Ave., Tryon, NC 28782.

Mae Mullinax
MORGANTON - Mrs. Mae Pearl Waters Mullinax, 79, of 1000 South Sterling St., died Monday, March 26, 2001, at her home.
Born May 27, 1921, in Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Doctor Spurge and Mary Jane Ledbetter Waters. She was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church in Shelby.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Katherine Morrison, Ruth Mace and Virginia Waters.
She is survived by a son and daughter - in - law, Thomas L. "Larry" and Ola Harmon of Shelby; one brother, Tommy Waters of Kings Mountain; one sister, Addie Haynes of Shelby; two grandchildren, Chris and Anita Harmon and Mark and Sharon Harmon; and five great - grandchildren.
The graveside service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Buffalo Baptist Church with the Rev. Sam Snyder officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home of Larry Harmon, 2436 S. Lafayette St. in Shelby.

Betty Lou Haynes
SHELBY - Mr. Betty Lou Sisk Haynes, 70, of 402 Morton St. died Monday, March 26, 2001, at her home.
Born Feb. 15, 1931, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Odell and Lula Mae Bridges Sisk. She was a member of Lily Memorial Baptist Church and was a retired winder with Lily Mills.
She is survived by her husband, Charles J. Haynes of the home; a daughter and son - in - law, Barbara and Mike Church of Shelby; a sister and brother - in - law, Peggy and Darrell Dawson of Shelby; two grandchildren and their spouses, Alenia and Jimmy Scism of Shelby and Michael Brian and Susan Church of Shelby; four great - grandchildren, Courtney Scism and Kimberly Church, Tabitha Church and Matthew Church.
A graveside service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Sunset Cemetery with Dr. Ernest Arnold officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

ELLENBORO - Mrs. Doris Jean Rollins Robinson, 72, died Sunday, March 25, 2001, at Hospice of Wendover.

SHELBY - Mr. Nathan Fitzgerald Howard, 35, of 308 East Ross Grove Road died Saturday, January 6, 2001.
A native of Cleveland County, he was employed by Fasco Controls and was a member of Mount Calvary Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Timothy Howard.
He is survived by his parents, Thomas and Shirley Whiteside Howard of the home, a son, Kelley Omar Kirkland of Shelby; his grandparents, Helen Whiteside of Shelby and Ola Howard of Lawndale; seven brothers, Nathaniel Petty Jr., Mickey Petty, Michael Petty, Rodney Petty, Terry Petty, Richie Petty and Byron Starr, all of Shelby; four sisters, Sharon A. Howard and Monique Whiteside, both of the home, and Sherrie Petty and Cherry Petty, both of Shelby; a special aunt, Gladys Perkins of Silver Spring, Md.; and a niece, Hillary J. Smith.
The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Mount Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. C.A. Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends for 30 minutes before the service at the church.
