Eugene McCraw
BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Mr. Eugene Curtis McCraw, 78, of 516 Dravo Road, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Johnny and Bessie Mooney McCraw. He retired from textiles and was a Baptist.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Annie May Wright McCraw.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Helen Spake McCraw; two sons, Donald Sisk of Supply and Randy Sisk of Shelby; four daughters, Patty Jo Wylie of Blacksburg, Diane Cooper and Dixie Drewey of Shelby and Linda Mae Mayfield of Gaffney, S.C.; a brother, Melvin McCraw of Gastonia; a sister, Mary Lizzer Doster of Lincolnton; 18 grandchildren and 20 great - grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home in Caroleen, with the Rev. Ronald Lackey officiating. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home. At other times, the family is at the home of his brother - in - law, Emanuel Spake, 516 Dravo Road, Blacksburg.

Emmie Teese
GAFFNEY, S.C. - Mrs. Emmie Rebekah Robertson Teese, 71, of 124 Robinhood Lane, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at her home.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 5 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of Incarnation, with the Rev. Gordon Hamilton officiating.
White Columns Funeral Service of Gaffney is in charge of arrangements.

Robert McCraw
MOORESBORO - Mr. Robert Perry McCraw, 1149 Steel Bridge Road, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at his home.
A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late James J. and Mollie Padgett McCraw. He was a forklift operator for Kohler Co. of Spartanburg, S.C. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Smith McCraw of the home; two daughters, Mollie McCraw and Ellen McCraw of the home; three brothers, James R. McCraw and Romeo R. McCraw, both of Mooresboro, and Donald R. McCraw of Lafayette, Ind.; four sisters, June Stitzel of Melbourne, Fla., Audrey Self of Forest City, Sandy Godfrey of Rutherfordton and Linda Silvers of Mooresboro.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with the Rev. Greg Qualls officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home, Cliffside.

Hazel McNeilly
RUTHERFORDTON - Mr. Hazel Andrew McNeilly, 73, of 3420 Hudlow Road, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at Willow Ridge Nursing Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born Sept. 29, 1927, the son of Guy and Florence Luckadoo McNeilly. He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church and was a retired poultry farmer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Theodore McNeilly.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Cook McNeilly of Rutherfordton; two daughters, Mrs. Troy Godfrey and Mrs. Charles Hill, both of Forest City; six sons, Duane McNeilly, Nick McNeilly, Sherrill McNeilly, Stuart McNeilly and Mike Garland, all of Rutherfordton, and Tim McNeilly of Forest City; three sisters, Betty Benefield and Thelma Toms, both of Rutherfordton, and Edna Self of Casar; 18 grandchildren; and four great - grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Mount Vernon Baptist Church with the Revs. Danny Black and Landon Rrice officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Sunday night from 6 to 8 at Crowe's Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Diane Hill, 217 Lakeside Drive, Forest City.

Alfred Knight Sr.
CHERRYVILLE - Mr. Alfred Hoover Knight Sr., 74, of 109 Carlton Drive, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at the Brian Center in Lincolnton.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kelley R. Jones officiating. Burial will be in the City Memorial Cemetery in Cherryville.
The family will receive friends after the service.

MOORESBORO - Mr. Hugh Curtis Allen, 58, of 7241 U.S. 221 South, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at his home.
A graveside service will be today at 11 a.m. at Hicks Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Raymond Byrd and Ad Hooper officiating.
The family received friends Friday night at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home, Cliffside.

Carey Maxwell
FOREST CITY - Mr. Carey Poteat "Shorty" Maxwell, 74, of 119 Beaver St., died Friday, April 13, 2001, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Monday at 5 p.m. at Harmon Street Baptist Church with the Revs. Charles Blackwell, Eddie Rape and Ricky Poteat officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Sunday night from 7 to 8:30 at Crowe's Funeral Home, Rutherfordton.

Sybil Yount
FOREST CITY - Mrs. Sybil Sechriest Yount, 47, of 427 Withrow Road, died Thursday, April 12, 2001, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Hughes Hobson officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 to 7 p.m. at the home.

Kassie Blanton
SHELBY - Kassie Alana Blanton, infant daughter of Dewayne and Dee Hamrick Blanton of 428 Corvair Lane, died Friday, April 13, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her brother, Bradley Blanton of the home; her grandparents, Donna and Tommy Vess and Roger and Mae Blanton, all of Shelby, Virgil and Joyce Hamrick of Hickory and Rosetta Blanton of Charlotte; five aunts, Kriston Rippy, Tracy Jenkins, Kelly Blanton, Lynn Kay and Kimberly McCurry; four uncles, David Blanton, Billy Blanton, Nathan Price and Jamie Jenkins.
Graveside services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park with the Rev. Dennis Wilson officiating.
The family will receive friends after the service and other times at the home of Roger and Mae Blanton, 430 Corvair Lane.

HENRIETTA - Mr. Cody Alan Curry, 5, of 298 N. Main St. died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at his home.
He was a native of Rutherford County.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Megan Lindsey Curry.
He is survived by his parents, James and Connie Hargett Curry of the home; a sister, Catelyn Curry of the home; grandparents, James and Dorothy Curry of Forest City, Wayne Hargett of Spindale and Mary Hollar of Lenoir.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Cleveland Funeral Services with the Rev. Terry Gilliam officiating. Burial will be in Bethel Advent Christian Church Cemetery in Lenoir.

Howard Bass Sr.
VALE - Mr. Howard Lee Bass Sr., 85, of 2684 Cat Square Road, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at home.
Born March 16, 1916, in White Plains, Ga., he was a son of the late George Washington and Clemmie Ethel Leonard Bass. He was a member of Palm Tree United Methodist Church and a retired auto mechanic. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Frank Bass, Nelson Bass and Carrol Bass, and two sisters, Mary Price and Nell Clark.
He is survived by his wife, Annie Laura Hoyle Bass; two sons and a daughter - in - law, Howard Lee Jr. and Linda Bass of Blacksburg, S.C., and George Clemmie Bass of Hickory; a daughter and son - in - law, Sara and Sammy Costner of Shelby; two brothers, Donald Bass of Hickory and Robert Bass of Vale; four sisters, Edith Sisk and Mable Hammonds, both of Hickory, and Frankie Mosteller and Helen Shook, both of Conover; six grandchildren, Lori White, Barbara Bass, Janet Griffin, Debbie Chapman, Pam Montgomery and Ronnie Costner; 10 great - grandchildren; and one great - great grandchild.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Palm Tree United Methodist Church in Vale with the Rev. Ed Benfield officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.

Mary Jane Holder
GROVER - Mrs. Mary Jane "Granny Holder" Holder, 98, of 109 Brook Hollow Lane, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at her home.
A native of Harnett County, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin F. Mason and Mary Jane Geoffrey. She was a member of New Beginning of Jesus Christ Church in Kings Mountain.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Arch Holder; five sons, Benny Holder, Albert Holder, Raymond Holder, Charlie Holder and Ernest Holder; and two daughters, Louise Strickland and Evie Wombles.
She is survived by three daughters and one son - in - law, Gladys Brown of Grover, Ellon and Reece Arnold of Shelby and Myrtie Bullard of Lillington; one brother, John Mason of Lillington; one sister, Mattie Mathis of Lillington; 46 grandchildren; 117 great - grandchildren; and 120 great - great - grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Family Praise and Worship Center in Shelby with the Revs. Harold and Barbara Camp and David Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Family Praise and Worship Center and at other times at 109 Brook Hollow Lane of Grover.

Joseph Koch
TROY - Mr. Joseph Peter Koch, 74, of 193 Roslyn Road, died Saturday, April 7, 2001, at his home.
A native of Lebanon, Pa., he attended Wake Forest University on a football scholarship. He was the 1952 Most Valuable Player in the Southern Conference League and a member of the South Squad in the Miami Shrine Bowl. He played professional football for the Chicago Bears, the Philadelphia Eagles and the Montreal Allouttes. He also played basketball the year Wake Forest University won the Southern Conference Tournament. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Troy and was a World War II veteran of the Marine Corps. He was a retired personnel director with Russell Hosiery Mill Inc. and an avid golfer.
He is survived by his wife, Norma Lattimore Koch of the home, formerly of Shelby; three daughters, Nicole Koch of Troy, Adeena K. East of Concord and Kimberly K. Praser of Cumming, Ga.; one son, Michael Eugene Koch of Biscoe; a mother, Eva Koch of Lebanon, Pa.; six sisters, Mary Peffley, Sandra Gratson, Susan Loraw, all of Shelby, Lee Webster of Bedford, Va., Eva McCabe of North Arlington, N.J., and Theresa Fallon of Bayonne, N.J.; five grandsons and one granddaughter.
A public memorial service will be Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at Montgomery County Country Club on Highway 134 North in Troy.

Hershal Spangler Jr.
HIGH POINT - Mr. Hershal Eugene Spangler Jr., 56, of 707 North Elm St., died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at High Point Regional Health System.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of Irene "Rena" Beheler Spangler of Boiling Springs and the late, Hershal Eugene Spangler Sr. He was a sales representative of a rental company. He was a Vietnam Era veteran of the Air Force.
He is survived by two sons and one daughter - in - law, Randy and Jennie Spangler and Tripp Spangler, all of Shelby; one daughter, Traci Spangler of Shelby; three brothers and three sisters - in - law, Tim and Jane Spangler of Lincolnton, Steve and Martha Spangler and Dean and Debbie Spangler, all of Shelby; and one grandson, Jonathan Price.
A memorial service will be Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Eric Davis officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service.

Ruenette Whitaker
EARL - Mr. Ruenette Deaton Whitaker, 61, of 115 McCurry Road, died Sunday, April 8, 2001, at Carolinas Medical Center.
A native of Hall County, Ga., he was the son of the late Oscar Harrison and Essie Cain Deaton. He attended Howards Business College and retired after 35 years with PPG Industries. He was a member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church.
He is survived by one daughter and one son - in - law, Tamara Whitaker and Gene McCurry; two grandchildren, Courtney McCurry and Cody McCurry; three brothers, Hoyt Deaton, Robert Deaton and Royce Deaton, all of Shelby; and five sisters, Vonceil Pridemore of Gaffney, S.C., Barbara Blanchard of Spartanburg, S.C., Mildred Keller of Manning, S.C., and Shirley Poteat and Betty Lanning, both of Shelby.
The funeral will be today at 5 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Crystal Champion officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends after the service in the church sanctuary and at other times the family will be at the home of Bobby and Ann Thackerson, 2723 Blacksburg Highway in Earl.
