Theodore Hartman
BELWOOD - Mr. Theodore Columbus Hartman, 94, of 1039 Belwood - Lawndale Road, died Friday, May 4, 2001, at Hospice at Wendover.
He was born in Cleveland County on Oct. 12, 1906, to the late Quincy and Elizabeth Hartman. He was a former farmer and retired in 1968 from Cleveland County Schools after 17 years in maintenance at Belwood School. He was a member of Normans Grove Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and a choir member.
In addition to his parents, he was preceeded in death by three brothers and a sister - in - law, Durham Hartman, Swain Hartman and Irod and Hazel Hartman; four sisters and three brother - in - laws, Getty and Grady Davis, Myrtle and Raymond Warlick, L.O.E. and Howard Dayberry and Velma H. Sisson; and two sister - in - laws, Janois Hartman and Grace Hartman.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Dayberry Hartman of Belwood; three daughters and two son - in - laws, Jewell "Judy" and Horace Panther of Belwood, Arline and J.B. Hicks Sr. of Easley, S.C., and Joyce Lutz of Belwood; two brothers, Jareen Hartman of Gastonia and Byron Hartman of Toluca; two sisters and brothers - in - law, Vera H. and Alvin Glenn of Belwood and Ruth H. and Hillard Anthony of Vale; a sister - in - law, Willie Mae Hartman of Vale; three grandsons, J.B. "Buddy" Hicks Jr. and his wife, Susan, and Brent Hartman Hicks, all of Easley, and Scott Panther of Hattiesburg, Miss.; four granddaughters, Sarah Panther Bush and her husband, Danny, of Tomball, Texas, and Lori Lutz, Lindy Lutz and Elizabeth Lutz McIntyre, all of Belwood; and eight great grandchildren, Adam Bush, Amanda Bush, Ashley Bush, Andrew Bush, Caroline Hicks, Grace Hicks, Sarah McIntyre and Rebecca McIntyre.
Services will be today at 3 p.m. at Normans Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Cecil Buff officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the funeral. The burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family received friends Saturday at Stamey Funeral Home.

Elizabeth Stacy
SHELBY - Ms. Maude Elizabeth Stacy, 90, of 1425 E. Marion St., died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Alterra Sterling House of Shelby.
A native of Randolph County, she was born May 21, 1910, the daughter of the late Rev. L.E. and Sally Nolan Stacy. She was a retired medical secretary and former teacher. She was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church, where she was a former Sunday school teacher in the children's department. She was a graduate of Greensboro College
She was preceeded in death by a brother, Paul J. Stacy.
The funeral was Saturday at 11 a.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church. Burial was in Sunset Cemetery.
The family received friends 30 minutes before to the service at the church.
Memorials may be made to Friendship United Methodist Church, PO Box 219, Fallston, NC 28042.
Stamey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Edward Moore
SPINDALE - Mr. Edward Earl "Eddie" Moore, 67, of 710 Oakland Road, died Friday, May 4, 2001, at his residence.
The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Crowe's Funeral Home with Dr. Charles Cobb and the Rev. Roger Gosnell officiating. Burial will be in Adaville Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 2 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Annie Moses
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Annie Fredell Moses, 75, of 716 Sipes St., died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at White Oak Manor.
She was born Jan. 11, 1926, in Rutherford County, the daughter of the late William Robert and Bessie Self Fredell. She was a homemaker and a member of Wallace Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceeded in death by a sister, Agnes Bowen.
She is survived by her husband, Cliff Moses of Lenoir; four brothers, Manuel Fredell of Vale, Coy Fredell and Roy Fredell, both of Kings Mountain, and Foy Fredell of Shelby; and three sisters, Mildred Hamrick of Indian Trail, Virgie Campbell of Kings Mountain and Essie Bivins of Lincolnton.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home. Burial will be in Wallace Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Virgie Campbell, 110 North Deal St., Kings Mountain.

Nellie McDaniel
SHELBY - Mrs. Nellie Amanda McDaniel, 92, of Century Care, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Hall County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Milton and Sally Trulove Pitchford. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceeded in death by her husband, Lawson W. McDaniel; five brothers, Robert Pitchford, Claude Pitchford, Homer Pitchford, Ed Pitchford and Oscar Pitchford; an infant sister; six half - brothers, Everette Pitchford, Fred Pitchford, Marion Pitchford, Louis Pitchford, Dean Pitchford and Howard Pitchford; and three half - sisters, Viola Davis, Lucille Melton and Frances Glaze; and a granddaughter, Wendy McDaniel.
She is survived by a son, Joe William McDaniel of Ellenboro; three daughters, Sarah Simmons of Gastonia, Edna McDaniel Brackett of Elenboro and Raye McDaniel Hiney of Charlotte; two brothers, Guy Pitchford of Ellenboro and Ray Pitchford of Georgia; two sisters, Lola Mae Hawkins and Lorene Coffey, both of Forest City; a half - brother, Dwight Pitchford; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and 1 great - great grandchild.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Drury Dobbins Baptist Church with the Revs. Steve Barham and Bobby Deviney officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Lutz-Austell Funeral Home.

RUTHERFORDTON - Mrs. Lois Earley Wall, 65, of 142 Lynch St., died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home, Caroleen, with the Rev. Tom Frady and Dennis Hilton officiating. Burial will be in Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.

Elizabeth Staples
SHELBY - Mrs. Elizabeth Wilson Staples, 94, of 417 Orange St. and Greenville, Tenn., died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at the Brian Center in Lincolnton.
She was the daughter of the late Samuel A. and Lillie Neal Wilson and a native of Cleveland County. She was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member of the WilsonWoods Missionary Circle. She attended North Carolina A&T University.
In addition to her parents, she was preceeded in death by her husband, John T. Staples; and seven brothers, Phillip Wilson, Douglas Wilson, Frank Wilson, Taft Wilson, Charles Wilson, John Wilson and George Wilson.
She is survived by two sisters, Louise W. Howell of Greensboro and Jennie W. Davis of Shelby; three nephews, Samuel Wilson and John Wilson, both of Cleveland, Ohio, and James Davis of Shelby; and six nieces, Barbara Peeler of Greenville, Tenn., Joann Cornwell and Beverly Gaines, both of Lithonia, Ga., Fayma Avent of Greensboro and a special niece, Anita Maxwell of Cherryville.
The funeral will be Tuesday at noon at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. S.A. Raper officiating. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church and at other times at 410 Carolina Ave.
Enloe Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

John Carlton
BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Mr. John Cabot Carlton, 40, of 301 Love's Farm Road, died Friday, May 4, 2001, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church with the Revs. Vernon Mullinax and James Gosnell officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 3 to 5 p.m. at White Columns Funeral Service and at other times at the home of Jean and Julian Harris at 285 Love's Farm Road, Blacksburg.

'Smitty' Smith
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. William O'Neal "Smitty" Smith, 73, of 415 Belvedere Circle, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at his home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born May 6, 1927, the son of the late O'Neal Smith and Louise Roseboro Berry and stepson of the late John Berry. He attended Flat Rock School in Fallston. He retired after 45 years at Martin Marietta Aggregation Service and he was a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a member of the trustee board, Laymen League and Sunday School Department. He was also a member of the Good Neighbor's Club of Belvedere Circle.
In addition to his parents, he was preceeded in death by a son, Larry Bernard Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Briggs Smith of the home; five daughters and one son - in - law, Annie Louise Smith Love, Joann Smith and Daniel Holland, Iris Rebecca Smith, Becky Smith Ross and Mary Alice Smith, all of Kings Mountain; four sisters, Minnie Lee McClain of Kings Mountain and Cora Lee Roseboro, Christine Morris and Bernice B. Petty, all of Shelby, and Rosa Mae Graham of Gastonia; 14 grandchildren; 29 great - grandchildren; and nephews and nieces.
The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Clinton A. Feemster officiating. Burial will be in the Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service.

Ralph Pyron
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Mr. Ralph Edward Pyron, 90, of Montgomery, Ala., died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at a local hospital.
He is survived by his wife, Gussie Pyron of Montgomery, one daughter and a son - in - law, Linda P. and Michael Gammons of Shelby; one son and daughter - in - law, Charles E. and Rose Pyron of Montgomery; two sisters and a brother - in - law, Eunice and Colley Peeples and Mildred Curlee, all of Holtville, Ala.; 10 grandchildren, Jeff Gammons, Keith Gammons, Julie Scott, Debbie Jennings, Alan Pyron, Chuck Pyron, Jake Pyron, Amanda Brewer, Joshua Brewer and Jeremiah Brewer; six great - grandchildren; and devoted caregivers, Hilda Johnson, Jenell Hicks and Jeanie Goolsby.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Leak - Memory Chapel with the Rev. Greg Belser officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be the grandsons.
The family received friends Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Morningview Baptist Church building fund, 125 Calhoun Road, Montgomery, AL 36109; or to Wiregrass Hospice, 4150 Carmichael Road, Montgomery, AL 36106.

David Trivett
SHELBY - Mr. David Joseph Trivett, 53, of 3044 River Road, died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of McNeil, Miss., he was the son of the late Andrew and Ada Bain Trivett. He retired from Cleveland Regional Medical Center as a nurse anesthetist. He was a member of Shelby Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Lloyd Trivett.
He is survived by his wife, Margret Burnett Trivett of the home; two daughters, Ann Marie Trivett and Laura Trivett, both of the home; one stepdaughter, Debbie Jones of Bessemer City; one stepson, Ted Jones of Yuma, Ariz.; three brothers, Don Trivett of Mount Vernon, Wash., James Trivett of Brookings, Ore. and Marvin Trivett of Springfield, Ore.; three sisters, Beth Dockham of Riverton, Wyo., Dena Marlow of Dayton, Tenn. and Janice Edney of Tryon.
A memorial service will be Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Chapel of Clay-Barnette Funeral Home chapel with Dr. Luke Harkey and the Rev. Len Byers officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service and at other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to the N.C. Library for the Blind, 1811 Capitol Blvd., Raleigh, NC 27635.

Lynne Wood
ASHEBORO - Mrs. Lynne Stedman Wood, 84, formerly of Henrietta, N.C., died Monday, May 7, 2001, at the North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston - Salem.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends an hour before the service at the funeral home.

Henry Littlejohn
SHELBY - Mr. Henry Franklin Littlejohn, 52, of 1809 Stoney Point Road, died Friday, May 4, 2001, at Washington Adventist Hospital in Takoma Park, Md.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Crossroads Baptist Church, Lockhart, S.C.. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.

"Whitey" Parrish
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Clyde "Whitey" Nathan Parrish, 80, of 408 North Cansler St., died Thursday, May 3, 2001, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Robert Nathan and Etta Harmon Parrish. He was an Airforce Veteran of World War II and was of the Baptist faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Coffey Parrish.
He is survived by his first wife, Doris Bolton Parrish of Kings Mountain; two sons, Billy Parrish and Wayne Parrish, both of Kings Mountain; one stepson, David Upchurch of Kings Mountain; three daughters, Barbara Falls of Kings Mountain, Linda Rogerson and Brenda Melton, both of Monroe; three stepdaughters, Libbie Upchurch of Kings Mountain, Norma Moore of Cheraw, S.C. and Penny Hamrick of Grover; three sisters, Orangel McDaniel, Margaret Dellinger, both of Kings Mountain, and Nelline Cable of Burlington; 18 grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; 24 great - grandchildren; and two stepgreat - grandchildren.
The funeral was Sunday at Greene Funeral Service with the Revs. James Hamrick and Keith Cobb officiating. Burial followed in the Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family received friends Saturday at Westside Chapel of Greene Funeral Service and at the home.
Pallbearers were Pathway Baptist Church members.

Bruner Bess
SHELBY - Mr. Bruner Ellis Bess, 85, of 2646 New Prospect Church Road, died Monday, May 7, 2001, at Hospice of Wendover.
A native of Lincoln County, he was the son of Daniel Rush and Blanche Canipe Bess. He was the owner and operator of Bess Superette. He was a member of Saint Paul United Methodist Church and was in the 6th Army Division during World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Bess.
He is survived by two daughters and two sons - in - law, Malinda Bess and Lester Perry of Hudson and Rita Bess and Jerry Davis of Lenoir; three brothers, Wayne Bess of Kings Mountain, Garland "Tom" Bess of Mooresboro and Walter "Curt" Bess of Waco; four sisters, Sethelle Hoyle of Rutherfordton, Maxine Wilson of Columbia, S.C., Sue Dycus and Jeanette Bridges, both of Shelby; three grandsons, Adrian Davis, Nolan Davis and Ryan Davis, all of Lenoir; three granddaughters, Redeana Davis, Leslie Hawkins and her husband Tracy, and Miranda Denning and her husband Robbie, all of Lenoir; and one great - grandson, Preston Hawkins.
The funeral will be Thursday at 4 p.m. at Saint Paul United Methodist Church with the Revs. Dean Smith and Harold Haskell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6:30 to 8:30 at Stamey Funeral Home.

Miriam Allen
SHELBY - Mrs. Miriam Stillwell Allen, 90, died Sunday, May 5, 2001, at the home.
A native of Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Edgar H. and Gertie Stillwell. She came to Cleveland County in 1945, and was an elementary school teacher until her retirement. She held a master of Education degree from George Peabody College. She was a member of Boiling Springs Baptist Church, where she was a member of FIDELIS Sunday school class. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma teacher sorority.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Leonard A. Allen; one brother, David Stillwell; and two sisters, Kate Reeves and Martha Lou Stillwell.
She is survived by a sister, Carolyn Harwood of Charlotte; a sister - in - law, Edna Ginn of Boone; one daughter and one son - in - law, Gene and Shirley Byers of Blacksburg, S.C.; one granddaughter, Beverly Allen Greene of Shelby; two grandsons, Chris Byers and Scott Byers of Blacksburg; and four great - grandchildren, Miriam Greene of Durham, Jonathan Greene of Shelby, Heather Byers and Amber Byers, both of Blacksburg.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Boiling Springs Baptist Church with Dr. Carroll Page and the Rev. Keith Dixon officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will follow at the Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service in the new fellowship hall at the church.

CLIFFSIDE - Mrs. Lois Whisnant Spears, 77, of 154 Genie Lane, died Sunday, May 6, 2001, at Fair Haven Nursing Center.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home with the Rev. Jake Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in the Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.
