'Pete' Tedder
SHELBY - Mr. Thomas N. "Pete" Tedder, 76, of 508 Peach St., died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at his home.
A native of Ellen - boro, he was the son of the late Edward Steadman and Myrtle Hoffman Tedder. He was a member of First Baptist Church, founded Tedder Motor Co. in 1955 and was a member of Shelby Optimist Club. He was the retired president and owner of Tedder Motor Co. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Louise Tedder Thompson and Janie Tedder Bartos; and two brothers, Henry Tedder and Edward Tedder.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Hamrick Tedder of the home; two sons and daughters - in - law, Thomas N. II and Helen Tedder and Richard Edward and Kim Tedder, all of Shelby; one daughter and son - in - law, Patricia and John L. Bitter III of Charlotte; one brother, John W. Tedder of Ellenboro; one sister, Evelyn Tedder of Ellenboro; and eight grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony Tench officiating. Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

BESSEMER CITY - Mr. Charles O'Neal Hannah, 79, of 705 W. N.C. 161, died Sunday, April 22, 2001, at his home.
The funeral will be Friday at 4 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with the Rev. T. Clark officiating.
Burial will be in Kelly's Chapel Cemetery.

SHELBY - Mr. Joe Columbus "J.C." Wilson, 85, of 1306 Ellis Ferry Road, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at his home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born Aug. 22, 1915, the son of the late Ozer and Willie Smart Wilson. He retired from Burlington Industries as a card tender. He was a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church and a former member of Bethany Baptist Church of Gastonia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Madge Wilson.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mildred Weaver Wilson; one son and daughter - in - law, R.C. and DiAnn Wilson of Shelby; one daughter and son - in - law, Ann and James Carpenter of Gastonia; one brother and sister - in - law, Flay and Juanita Wilson of Gastonia; one sister, Betty Clontz of Gastonia; two grandchildren, Marsha C. Griffin and her husband, Donnie, of Gastonia and Jamie C. Bond and her husband, Tommy, of Belmont; one great - granddaughter, Natalie Bond of Belmont; and six stepgrandchildren, Howard Shope, Tina Farris, Donna Britt, Ashley Hodge, Joseph Farris and C.J. Shope.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Mount Sinai Baptist Church with the Revs. Tim Trexler and Mike Sepaugh officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

HENRIETTA - Mr. T. E. Nodine, 85, of New Town Road, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at his home.

George McWhirter
SHELBY - Mr. George Ray McWhirter, 76, of 2920 Hugh Harrill Road, died Monday, April 23, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Ellis and Pauline Wall McWhirter. He retired from Dover Mills No. 2 in Cherryville. He was a member of Lattimore Baptist Church. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline McWhirter; a son and daughter - in - law, Steve and Shirley McWhirter of Lattimore; one brother, Ben McWhirter of Shelby; one sister, Maxine Biggerstaff of Mount Holly; and two grandchildren, Mark McWhirter and Jeff McWhirter.
The funeral will be today at 11 a.m. at Lattimore Baptist Church with the Revs. Max Burgin and Dennis Bailey officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family received friends Wednesday at Lutz-Austell Funeral Home.

SHELBY - Mrs. Shirley JoAnn Henderson, 57, of 1024 Washburn Switch Road, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
She was a winder in textiles.
She was preceded in death by her father, E.D. Moore, and a brother, Tince Moore.
She is survived by her husband, John Henderson; her mother, Rosella Fowler Moore; three brothers, James Moore, Tommy Moore and Mickey Moore; six sisters, Florence Humphries, Brenda Jones, Judy Emory, Barbara Cash, Kathy Pruitt and Helen Strange; five children, Sandy Henderson, Lisa Henderson, Christy Henderson, Donnie Henderson and Kale Henderson; and six grandchildren, Lindsey Henderson, Brittany Black, Jason Black, Jasmine Henderson and Macayla Henderson.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Lutz-Austell Funeral Home with the Rev. Bo Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.

Asunti Jennings
SHELBY - Master Asunti Ja' Quavion Jerez Jennings, infant son of Bulena Shanee Walker and William Sentell Jennings, born March 13, 2001, died April 29, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, William Jennings.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother De'Maris O'Neil Walker; his grandparents, Trina W. Ross, Marcus Ross and Barbara Jennings, all of Shelby; great - grandmother, Willie Mae Walker of Shelby; great - great - grandmother, Bulena M. Walker of Shelby; two special aunts, Latoya C. Walker and Lether Jennings; a special great - aunt, Caprella W. Ross; and his godmother, Regina Allen.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at the S.T. Enloe Chapel of Enloe Mortuary with the Rev. Billy Houze officiating. Burial will be in First Baptist Church Cemetery, Lawndale.

Virginia Brown
GREENVILLE, S.C. - Mrs. Virginia Cothran Brown, 95, of Rolling Green Village, died Sunday, April 29, 2001, in Greenville.
A native of Greenwood, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Thomas W. and Maude Boswell Cothran. She was employed by Cleveland and Rutherford county school systems. In Cleveland County she taught home economics and biology and in Rutherford County she was a guidance counselor. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Hinton Brown, who died Feb. 28, 1984.
She is survived by one son, William H. Brown of Cassleberry, Fla.
A graveside service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park with Dr. Joe Reeves officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.
Ricky Black
BOSTIC - Mr. Ricky Ray Black, 40, of 2391 N.C. 226, formerly of Kings Mountain and Cooks - ville, Tenn., died Saturday, April 28, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 12, 1960, in Cleveland County, he was a sales representative for Carolina Medical Supply in Grover, S.C. He was a member of Victory Life Assembly of God of Cherryville. He was an avid golfer.
He is survived by his wife, Robbie Jordan Black of the home; his parents, Ken and Frances Gailey Black of Kings Mountain; two sons, Dakota Black of Sparta, Tenn., and Cody Black of Denver; one stepdaughter and her husband, Jennifer and Travis Reeves of Nebo; one stepson and his wife, Craig and Crystal Moreland of Bostic; one brother and sister - in - law, Ken and Shandra Black of Hickory; two grandchildren, Trenton Reeves of Nebo and Jalerie Moreland of Bostic; and two nieces, Taylor Black and Jordan Black, both of Hickory.
The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Victory Life Assembly of God with the Rev. Larry Johnson officiating. Burial will be in City Memorial Cemetery, Cherryville.

Madge Bridgers
MILWAUKEE - Mrs. Madge Camp Bridgers, 81, died Monday, April 30, 2001, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.
A native of Shelby, she was retired from Northampton County school system after more than 40 years of teaching. She was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities including choir, United Methodist women and teaching Sunday school. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, NEA, NCEA, XYZ Club and a former member of the Conway Woman's Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Howard Gilliam Bridgers.
She is survived by one sister and brother - in - law, Mildred Camp and Everette Spake of Shelby; one brother and sister - in - law, Edwin Eugene and Lynn Camp of Roaring Gap; and her adopted family and dear friends, Sterling and Francis Hamilton of Conway, Blonnie Johnson of Milwaukee and Julia and Rudy Salas of Raleigh and their children, Rudy Salas and Marialena Salas.
The funeral will be today at 11 a.m. at Bethany United Methodist Church with the Revs. John Bowman and Hobart Burnside officiating.
Burial will be in the Town of Conway Cemetery.

RUTHERFORDTON - Mr. Hal Ophus Hawkins, 90, of Edgewood Nursing Home, died Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at Ruther - ford Hospital.
A native of Ruther - ford County, he was the son of the late Lewis Gilbert and Zera Glother Bridges Hawkins. He was a member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church in Hollis and was retired from Dover Textiles, where he was a fixer for more than 35 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Nell Wanda Davis Hawkins; a second wife, Mary Martin Toms Hawkins; and a brother, Hyatt Hawkins.
He is survived by his sister, Lottie Hawkins Padgett of Shelby; a brother and sister - in - law, Drew and Helen Walker Hawkins of Shelby; a stepdaughter and her husband, Linda Toms and Larry Ware of Shelby; a stepson and his wife, Rick and Terrie Toms of Lattimore; two nieces and a spouse, Regina Padgett and Tommy Latham of Shelby and Carolyn Hawkins Anderson of Texas; three nephews and their spouses, Ronny and Hilda Davis Hawkins of Shelby, Bill and Debbie Hawkins of Raleigh and Gray Hawkins of Gastonia; and six stepgrandchildren.

SHELBY - Mr. Anthony Arnold "Ankie" Armstrong, 45, of 1805 Riveria Drive, died Tuesday, May 1, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Gaston County, he was the son of Henry Lee and Edith Armstrong of Cramerton. He was employed at S and B Concrete and worked at PPG Industries for 12 years.
He was preceded in death by a son, Eric Watson; a sister, Jacquelyn Armstrong; a brother, Henry Lee Armstrong; and a sister - in - law, Gwendolyn Morgan.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Sherise Armstrong; one son, Sterling McDaniel of the home; one daughter, Tekeisha McDaniel of Shelby; four brothers and two sisters - in - law, William Henry and Carlene Armstrong of Charlotte, John Earl Armstrong, Arthur Allen Armstrong and Tony C. and Stephanie Armstrong, all of Lowell; two sisters, Marceline Armstrong of Lowell and Iva Elaine Armstrong of Cramerton; one brother - in - law, Andy McDaniel of Norfolk, Va.; three grandchildren, Jaquaila Shade, Victoria Watson and Malik McDaniel; and nieces and nephews.
