Marie Horn
LAWNDALE - Mrs. Marie Cornwell Horn, 98, of FairHaven Home, formerly of Yates Road in Lawndale, died Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, at FairHaven Home in Bostic.
A native of Cleveland County, she was born the daughter of the late George and Julia Gold Cornwell. She was a homemaker. She was a charter member of Polkville Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Yates Horn.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Sharon Horn of Fairfield, Calif.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jane Horn and Dr. V.O. Cline of Rutherfordton and Joanne and Dr. Yates H. Eaker of Forest City; two brothers, Tom Cornwell of Morganton and Robert Cornwell of Lawndale; one sister, Pearl Warlick of Raeford; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Polkville Baptist Church with the Rev. Alton Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Lutz-Austell Funeral Home.

SHELBY - Mrs. Lura Gantt, 92, of Century Health Care, died Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

SHELBY -- Mrs. Doris Cicelia Darwood Selby Parr Speyer, 83, of 1524 New House Road, died Saturday, September 25, 1999, at her residence.
A native of Baltimore County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Robert C. and Ella J. Hoffman Darwood. She was a deli manager for Grauls Market of the Anne Arundle Co.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, William G. Selby, Harold E. Parr and Alfonso L. Speyer; and one sister; Irma M. Darwood
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert W. Selby Sr. and Barbara Selby of Shelby, Harold E. Parr Jr. and Cindi Parr of Union, Ky., and Phillip and Ruth Seyer of Hurst, Texas; four daughters and sons-in-law, Lois M. and Herman Turner of Arnold, Md., Mary and Gary Azzaro of Baltimore, Muriel and Jim Sanders of Norwalk, Ct., and Ruth and Marvin Rapmage of Conyers, Ga.; 16 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
The family will receive friends at the home of a son at 1524 New House Road in Shelby.

David Emery
GAFFNEY, S.C. - Mr. David N. Emery, 68, of 240 Norman Blvd., died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A graveside service was Sunday at 2 p.m. at Mount Ararat Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family received friends Saturday from 7 to 8 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
Irene Hopper
SHELBY - Mrs. Irene Angeline King Hopper, 85, of Century Care of Shelby, died Sunday, Oct. 2, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Alonzo and Angeline Poston King. She was a member of Ellis Chapel Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Usher Board for 40 years and a member of the Missionary Department.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Dewey Hopper; one son, James Ray Hopper; and three brothers, William King, Elehugh King and Vergie King.
She is survived by four sons, William Hopper and Willie Richard Hopper, both of Charlotte, and John Alonzo Hopper and Harrison Lee Hopper, both of Shelby; two daughters, Margaret Geter and Linda Roseboro, both of Grover; two sons-in-law, Robert Roseboro and Clarence Geter, both of Grover; three daughters-in-law, Amanda S. Hopper of Grover, Elsie Mae Hopper of Shelby and Dorothy Hopper of Charlotte; 23 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Ellis Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. W.B. Ellis officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday 30 minutes before the service at the church and other times at 237 Roseborough Road, Grover.

Inez Brackett
CASAR - Mrs. Inez Poole Brackett, 69, of 144 Bald Mountain Road, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, at Hospice at Wendover.
A native of Mecklenburg County, she was born on Dec. 23, 1929, the daughter of the late Johnnie David and Minnie Rosetta Earl Poole. She was retired from Cleveland Mills. After retiring, she worked in the bakery at Ingles. She was a member of Olive Grove Baptist Church. On Nov. 9, 1994, Governor Jim Hunt presented Mrs. Brackett with the Governor's Award for Outstanding Volunteer Service.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Howard Poole; and one sister, Vangie Hoyle.
She is survived by her husband, William Grady Brackett of Casar; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Keith and Vickie Brackett of Casar and Ray Brackett of Morganton; one daughter, Lynn Brackett of Casar; three brothers, Carl Poole of Casar, Jack Poole of Connelly Springs and Johnnie Lee Poole of Charlotte; three sisters, Pauline Ledford and Mary Lou McCombs, both of Lawndale, and Thelma Porter of Shelby; three grandchildren, Danny Brackett, Richard Brackett and Heidi Gordon; and one great-grandchild, A.J. Gordon.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Olive Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Terrill Crump officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Andrew Lindsay
GRANITE FALLS - Mr. Andrew Cecil Lindsay Jr., 51, of McCall Town Road, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, at Wake Forest University Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born on April 27, 1948, the son of Ruth Newton Lindsay of Lenoir and the late Cecil Lindsay. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hudson, where he was a deacon, a Sunday school teacher and an R.A. leader. He was a charter member of the North Catawba Optimist Club, where he coached baseball, basketball and soccer. He formerly operated the Frosty Frez, Dairy Frez and Cajah Mountain Superette. He was broker-in-charge of Doc Run Properties. He was currently on the sales staff of Gary's Chrysler in Morganton.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Mary Evelyn Andrews Lindsay of Granite Falls; one son, Ethan Claude Lindsay of Winston-Salem; and one daughter, Andrea Leigh Lindsay of Winston-Salem.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Hudson with Dr. C. Wade Dellinger and Dr. Billy Rivers officiating. Deacons of the church will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow at Sardis Cemetery.

Faye Brannon
GASTONIA - Mrs. Faye R. Brannon, 82, of Courtland Terrace, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at her residence.
A native of Shelby, she was the daughter of the late James O. and Emma Hendrick Reinhardt. She was a member of Commonwealth Methodist Church in Charlotte. She was a beautician in Charlotte for many years.
She is survived by one brother, T.E. "Gene" Reinhardt of Belmont; and one sister, Joyce Scott of Lubbock, Texas.
A private graveside service will be held at Sunset Cemetery in Shelby.

Addie Blanton
HENRIETTA - Ms. Addie Beatrice Blanton of 181 McDowell St. died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Rutherford County, she was a member of New Zion Baptist Church, and an LPN at Royster and Crawley hospitals for 30 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter R. and Ella Frances Glover Blanton.
She is survived by a sister, Ella Mae Blanton of the home.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at New Zion Baptist Church in Henrietta, with Dr. L.W. Jackson and the Rev. C. Webber officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 2 p.m.

SHELBY - Mrs. Eula Mae Deaton, 86, of 821 E. Main St., died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Rutherford County, she was retired from Bost Bakery and a member of Putnam Memorial Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George Thomas and Emma Murray Thomas Earwood; her husband, John Dorsey Deaton; and her brother, Berley Thomas.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Ruby and Ray Murray of Everman, Texas, and Nancy and Ted Borders of the home; son Robert Deaton of Lake Worth, Texas; two sisters, Genive Johnson of Rutherfordton and Lorena Mace of Ellenboro; two brothers, Lewis Thomas of Henrietta and Junior Earwood of New Orleans; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel, with the Revs. Bryan Glisson and Larry Morris officiating. Burial will be at Cleveland Memorial Park.

Rev. John Zanon
BOILING SPRINGS - The Rev. John Zanon, 88, of Crestbrook Circle, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Casoni, Italy, he was a retired missionary evangelist of Christ Mission Organization in New York City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Domenico and Maria Ferronato Zanon.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Edwards Zanon of Boiling Springs; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ruth and the Rev. Keith Dixon of Boiling Springs; four brothers, the Rev. Hilary Zanon of Providence, R.I., the Rev. Achille Zanon of Campos Novos, Brazil, Severino Zanon and the Rev. Anthony Zanon of Italy; a sister, Maria Zanon of Italy; and two grandsons, Jeremy Dixon and Jacob Dixon.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Flint Hill Baptist Church in Boiling Springs, with the Revs. Keith Dixon, William Stroud and Richard Bass officiating. Burial will be at Oak Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

FRANKLIN - Mrs. Florence Henson Roland, 85, died Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at a local nursing home.
A native of Macon County, she was a nurse and member of First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George Rush and Cumi Liner Henson; her husband, James "Tom" Ivan Roland; two sisters, Selma Dalton and Blaun Kusterer; and brother Tom Henson.
She is survived by two sons, Jim Roland of Shelby and George Gary Roland of Franklin; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Monday at Raleigh National Cemetery.

MORGANTON - Ms. Laura Armour Richard, 81, of 2248 Bristol Trail, formerly of Shelby, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at Grace Hospital in Morganton.
A native of Gainesville, Fla., she was a retired yarn packer from Lily Mill Co. and a member of Landmark Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Hester Oliver Armour; a son, Jerry Eugene Richard; and a brother, Clarence Armour.
She is survived by her husband, Dwight Henry Richard of the home; a daughter-in-law Edna Richard of Morganton; two sisters, Ola M. Ward and Vernie Boggs of Cleveland, Ga.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral is Monday at 2 p.m. at Landmark Baptist Church, with the Rev. Allen Davis officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the ceremony.

A native of Vance County, she was a homemaker and a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her father, William McGhee; her husband, Obey Les Robertson; a daughter, Gracie Mae Roberson; and three brothers, Arvin McGhee, Connie McGhee and James McGhee.
