Ted Ross Sr.
HICKORY - Mr. Ted Henry Ross Sr., 69, of 1130 24th Avenue Place N.E., died Saturday, April 21, 2001, at Brian Center Viewmont.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born Nov. 10, 1931, the son of the late Claude Pompey and Eliza Ross. He was a member of Maple Springs Baptist Church in Washington, where he was a deacon. He retired from the Psychiatric Institute in Washington. He was a member of the Hi - Lite Senior Citizens at Brown Penn Recreation Center.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Moses Ross, and one brother, Carl Ross Jr.
He is survived by two daughters and a son - in law, Phyllis "Gi - Gi" and Dr. Forest Toms of Hickory and Nancy Hopper of Shelby; one son, Ted Henry Ross Jr. of Hickory; two granddaughters, LaShonda Hopper of Shelby and Zakiya Toms of Hickory; one grandson, Forest Toms II of Hickory; two great - granddaughters, TyKiah Rhodes and TyLiazh Rhodes, both of Shelby; a sister and brother - in law, Mary Jane and Israel Lockhart of Boston; three nephews, Israel Lockhart Jr. of California and Tony Lockhart and Joseph Lockhart, both of Boston; and three nieces, Veronica Lockhart of California, Annette Lockhart of Boston and Doris Lockhart of Cape Cod, Mass.
The funeral will be Thursday at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Genesis Mortuary with the Rev. Sam Raper officiating. Burial will be in Webb Memorial Garden, Shelby.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at Allen Mitchell Funeral Home in Hickory and from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday at Genesis.
Frank Whitaker
SHELBY - Mr. Frank Buland Whitaker, 85, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Hospice at Wendover.
A native of Ruther - ford County, he was the son of the late Marvin R. and Zora Painter Whitaker. A graduate of Cliffside High School, he was employed for more than 30 years by Cone Mills, Cliffside Plant, where he worked his way up from sweeper to mill superintendent. He retired in 1980 from Reeves Brothers, Ruth Plant, where he served as a supervisor for 13 years. He also worked as a part - time electrician for many years in the Cliffside community. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, the Baxter - Davis Sunday school class and the Young at Heart Club. He was a former member and deacon of Cliffside Baptist Church. He was a World War II veteran in the Army Corp of Engineers, serving in the Philippines, Okinawa and Korea. He was a member of the Cliffside Masonic Lodge No. 460 AF&AM, where he served as secretary for many years. He also was a member of the Cleveland County Men's Senior Golf Association and the American Legion.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 54 years, Mabel Roberts Whitaker; two brothers, Raymond R. Whitaker and Robert E. Whitaker; and a stepdaughter, Jill Wright.
He is survived by his second wife of 12 years, Ray McIntyre Wright Whitaker; two sisters and brothers - in - law, Hazel W. and William S. Lucas of Oak Island and Betty W. and Charles E. Butler of Forest City; five special nieces, Ann Hoyle and Beth Eubanks, both of Kings Mountain, Donna Butler Brantley of Forest City, Sandra Lucas - Hyde of Bald Head Island and Frances Warlick of Shelby; three special nephews, Joe Roberts of Shelby, Scott Lucas of Louisburg and Michael Lucas of Chapel Hill; four great - nieces, Kimberly Labrique of Baltimore, Kelly Grant of Shelby, Susan Falls of Kings Mountain and Janet Warlick of Shelby; two great - nephews, David Roberts of Shelby and Kai Lucas of Louisburg.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church with Dr. Dolores Queen officiating. Burial will be in the Cliffside Cemetery.
The family will receive friends an hour before the service at the church.

'Boot' Wray
LAWNDALE - Mr. James Nathaniel "Boot" Wray, 66, of 126 Cam Place, died Tuesday, April 24, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born Aug. 3, 1934, the son of the late Eddie and Arie Marble Wray. He attended Douglass High School.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Curtis Wray, Edgar Wray and Ambrose Wray; and one sister, Briddie Wray Webber.
He is survived by three sons, Thomas Lattimore of Springfield, Mass., Vinson L. Haynes of Shelby and Travis A. Mcvias of Harrisburg, Pa.; one brother, Thomas Wray; three sisters, Thelma Wray Antoine and Bernice Wray Hector, both of Lawndale, and Shirley Wray Lacey of Layton, Utah; three grandchildren; and a friend, Cheryl Odom.
The funeral will be Monday at First Baptist Church in Lawndale with the Rev. B.D. Houze officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Anne Haymaker
LENOIR - Mrs. Anne Oleata May Haymaker, 78, of Scroggs Street, died Thursday, April 26, 2001 at her home.
A native of Caldwell County, she was born May 15, 1922, the daughter of the late Lemuel Robert and Effie Pearson May. She was the former owner of Oleata's Designer House and was involved with the foreign student exchange program. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lenoir. She was past president of Business Professional Women and a member of Altrusa.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude S. Haymaker Sr.
She is survived by two sons, James Robert Haymaker of Mocksville and Claude Swanson Haymaker Jr. of Hickory; one daughter, Sylvia Haymaker Zaun of Daytona Beach, Fla.; and one granddaughter, Tiffani Zaun Cook of Daytona Beach.
The funeral will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Lenoir with Dr. David Smith officiating.
Burial will be in Belleview Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.

SHELBY - Mr. Edward Andrew Corley Sr., 61, of 1414 Briarcliff Road, died Friday, April 27, 2001, at his home.
A native of West Columbia, S.C., he was born Dec. 16, 1939, the son of the late Luther E. and Emma Maude Mason Corley. He retired after 35 years with Hoechst Celanese as a spinning supervisor.
He was a bowler with the Monday Senior's League. He was a member of Westview Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Coed II Sunday school class, the building and grounds committee.
He is survived by his wife, Lee Thompson Corley of the home; two sons and one daughter - in - law, Edward Corley Jr. of Patterson Springs and Richard and Nicole Corley of Cherryville; one daughter, Cynthia Corley of Lexington, S.C.; two grandchildren, Garrett Corley and Hayden Corley; and one brother, Luther Corley Jr. of West Columbia, S.C.
The funeral will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Westview Baptist Church with the Revs. Clyde Kerley and Jim Brackett officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.

A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Roy F. and Lucille Auten Teddy. He was a charter member of John Knox Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon and elder. He was retired from the real estate business.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Roberson Teddy; and a brother, Roy F. Teddy Jr.

GAFFNEY, S.C. - Mr. Michael Robert Whitaker, 63, of 308 Pleasant Meadows Drive, died Friday, April 27, 2001, at Gibbs Cancer Center in Spartanburg, S.C.
A native of Gaffney, he was a son of the late Esker Lee and Duett Wells Whitaker. He was a graduate of Limestone College and retired as supervisor at Springs Industries after 35 years of service. He was a former deacon and lifelong member of Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church. He was a member of the Granard Masonic Lodge and a Hejaz Shriner.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles "Shorty" Whitaker; and a sister, Lucille Whitaker Cash.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Ramona Moss Whitaker; a son and daughter - in - law, Randall and Danielle Whitaker of Pacolet, S.C.; two daughters and sons - in - law, Sharon and Greg Cooper and Amy and Trent Swink, all of Mooresboro; a brother, Joe Whitaker of Gaffney; a sister, Mary Phillips of York, S.C.; and six grandchildren, Chris Ellis, Mandy Ellis, Jonathan Cooper, Casey Whitaker, Carson Lea Swink and Abby Swink.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church. Burial will be in Frederick Memorial Gardens.
