HICKORY - Mr. Dan G. Stacey, 85, formerly of Henrietta, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001, at Pell Care Nursing Home.

Bobbie West
GASTONIA - Mrs. Bobbie Steele Brady West, 70, died Friday, May 11, 2001, at Alexander Place.
She was the daughter of the late Luther and Lula Holcome Brady. She retired from Doran Textiles and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Carl Andrew West of Port Charlotte, Fla.; two sons, Mike West of Belton, S.C., and Scott West of Shelby; a daughter, Deborah Malone of Belton; four grandchildren, Jesse West of Easley, S.C., and Isaac Ford, Matthew West and Derek Malone, all of Belton; a great - grandson, Luke West of Easley; and a sister - in - law, Betty Hipp of Kings Mountain.
A graveside service will be held today at 3 p.m. at Little Mountain Baptist Church in Wellford, S.C., with the Rev. Ed Brown officiating.
The family received friends Saturday at Lutz-Austell Funeral Home in Shelby.

SHELBY - Mrs. Nellie Grace Jenkins Crotts, 98, of 1749 New House Road died Friday, May 11, 2001, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Home.
The funeral will be today at 3:30 p.m. at Sandy Plains Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Everette DeShauen "Shauen" Byers, 23, of 200 Spruce St., Kings - wood Apart - ments 3 - F, died Thursday, May 10, 2001.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of Ricky N. Byers of Shelby and Betty Gill Byers of Kings Mountain. He was employed by Ticona Corp. and was a 1995 graduate of Crest High School, where he played football and basketball.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sonya Thompson Byers; his grandparents, Mack Junior and Irene McCluney Gill and J.C. and Susie Mae Byers; an uncle, Michael E. Gill; and an aunt, Carolyn Byers.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a son, SaDarius DeShauen Byers of Shelby; two daughters, Emani Neshay Byers and Jada Nicole Byers, both of Shelby; three sisters, Latiya S. Byers of Kings Mountain, Lakisha Moore of Shelby and Cierra Ervin of Kings Mountain; five uncles, Greg Byers of Orlando, Fla., Charles Byers of Allendale, S.C., Mack E. Gill of Jefferson, Ga., Jerry L. Gill of Columbia, S.C., and Bobby J. Gill of Washington, D.C.; four aunts, Janet Byers, Ann G. Jones and Sandra A. McCluney, all of Shelby, and Margaret G. Jones of Mount Vernon, N.Y.; two nieces, Qwashala Dawkins and Nautica White; a nephew De'Vajae' Dawkins; his mother - in - law and father - in - law, Richard and Judy Thompson; and special friends Gabriel Jennings, Chris Lee, Eddie Hardin and Michael Gill.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Wade Wallace officiating. Burial will be in Webb Memorial Lawns.

SHELBY - Mrs. Sonya Evonne Thompson Byers, 21, of 902 Foxcroft Circle, died Thursday, May 10, 2001.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of Richard and Judy Smith Thompson. She was employed by Cleveland Community College, where she worked in student services. She was also a student there, pursuing a radiology technician degree. She was a member of Faith Harvest Church.
She was married to the late Everette DeShauen Byers.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a son SaDarius DeShauen Byers of the home; two daughters, Emani Neshay Byers and Jada Nicole Byers, both of the home; three sisters, Jacqueline A. Thompson, Kimberly J. Thompson and her twin sister, Tonya Evette Thompson, all of Shelby; her grandparents, Rosa W. Smith and Ruby J. Smith, both of Shelby; her father - in - law, Ricky Byers of Shelby; her mother - in - law, Betty Byers of Kings Mountain; and three sisters - in - law; Latiya S. Byers and Cierra Ervin, both of Kings Mountain, and Lakisha Moore of Shelby .
The funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Ellis Chapel Baptist Church with Bishop Randy Borders officiating. Burial will be in Webb Memorial Lawns.

Edward Gill
GASTONIA - Mr. Edward Charles Gill, 42, of 600 Dundeen Drive, died Thursday, May 10, 2001, at Hospice House in Monroe.
He was the son of Joe T. Hart Sr. of St. Petersburg, Fla., and the late Louise Hart. He was a member of Adams Chapel AME Zion Church, where he served on the usher board and the young adult choir. He was an Army veteran, receiving an honorable discharge.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife, Gloria Jean Gill of Union, S.C.; three brothers and two sisters - in - law, Joe T. Jr. and Dorothy Gill and Jessie and Loretta Gill, all of Gastonia, and Robert Lee Gill of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Donieta Gill of Charlotte and Dorothy Crosby of Gastonia; three uncles, Billy Hart and Robert Hart, both of Philadelphia, and Ulysses Gill of Clover, S.C.; an aunt, Mary Lee Makins of Clover; a great - aunt, Johnsie B. Miller Byers of York, S.C.; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Monday at 4 p.m. at Adams Chapel AME Zion Church with Dr. Pruella K. Sanders officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church.

Mary Lou Wallace
LAWNDALE - Mrs. Mary Lou Pruett Wallace, 80, formerly of Lawndale, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was born March 23, 1921, the daughter of the late Sanford and Maggie Mauney Pruett. She was a hairdresser for 46 years and was a co - founder and operator of Cosmetic Art College in Shelby. She was a member of Casar Baptist Church and the Upper Cleveland Artist Group.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Wallace; an infant daughter, Janie Lou Wallace; a sister, Inez P. Holsclow; and two brothers, Paul Pruett and Forest Pruett.
She is survived by two special nephews and nieces - in - law, Billy and Mary Pruett of Lawndale and Rick and Susan Wallace of Baltimore; a special niece and nephew - in - law, Jeanne and Bill Blanton of Polkville, and a number of other nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Casar Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Cecil Buff officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church after the service and other times at the home of Billy and Mary Pruett, 119 School House Road.

Dewitt Lowery
BOSTIC - Mr. Dewitt Lowery, 78, of Holly Court, died Saturday, May 12, 2001, at Carolinas Medical Center.
A native of Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Samuel and Coral Lee Wilkerson Lowery. He was retired from the N.C. Department of Transportation. He was an Army veteran serving in the 2nd Cavalry during World War II. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and a lifetime member of the 2nd Cavalry. He served as mayor of Ellenboro for 12 years and was chairman of the grounds committee at Eastwood Village. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church and a former Sunday school teacher.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Sisk Lowery of the home; two daughters and sons - in - law, Judy and Tommy Mayhew of Shelby and Sandy and Bob Delonis of Charlotte; three grandchildren, Constance and husband Pat O'Neill, David Mayhew and John Oehler; one great - grandchild, Erin O'Neill; four sisters, Louise Swink and Bertie Spratt, both of Ellenboro, and Ruth Bailey and Doris Henson, both of Forest City.
The funeral will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. Wayne Blackwood and the Rev. Ad Hopper officiating. Entombment will be in Cleveland Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Saul "Mack" McPherson
SPINDALE - Mr. Saul Lindberg "Mack" McPherson, 73, of 317 Missouri St., died Monday, May 14, 2001, at Rutherford Hospital.
Born Dec. 24, 1927, in Rutherfordton, he was the son of the late Bob and Lorene Phillips Thompson McPherson. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and worked as a truck driver for Lutz - Yelton Oil Co. He was a member of Second Baptist Church, Rutherfordton.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred "Millie" Owens McPherson of Spindale; three sons and daughters - in - law, Jerry and Betsy McPherson of Shelby, Mike and Debbie McPherson of Spindale and Warren and Kelly McPherson of Rutherfordton; a granddaughter, Jessica McPherson of Spindale; a grandson and his wife, Cline and Jennifer McPherson of Rutherfordton; another grandson, Matthew McPherson of Shelby; two stepsisters, Louise Conner of Spindale and Edith Pritchard of Mississippi; and two stepbrothers, Alton Thompson of Spindale and James Thompson of Rutherfordton.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Second Baptist Church, with the Rev. Keith Stephenson officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

SHELBY - Mrs. Gladys Myra Allen Wall, 81, of 506 E. Circle Drive, died Sunday, May 13, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late Boney and Rosa Mae Barber Allen. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Shelby, where she worked in the nursery for many years. She retired from Belk as a sales clerk.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Myron David Wall, and two sisters, Lena Padgett and Blanche Harrill.
She is survived by her husband, Boyd Wall of Shelby; a son and daughter - in - law, Allen and Suzanne Wall of Shelby, and two grandchildren, Michael Wall and Adam Wall, both of Shelby.
The funeral will be tonight at 7:30 in the chapel of Clay-Barnette Funeral Home, with Dr. Gene Watterson officiating. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.

TARBORO - Mr. Edward "E.J." Smith Sr., 68, died Friday, May 11, 2001, at his home.
He worked with Barnhill Construction Co. for 34 years.
He is survived by his wife, Deloa "Dee" Smith; eight daughters, Kitty Johnson of Newport News, Va., Judy Holcomb of Bomont, W.Va., Deborah Johnson of Robersonville, Jo Nina Tongate, Robbin Ray and Mandy Ray of Tarboro, and Laural Ray of Shelby; three sons, George Johnson, Edward J. Smith Jr., both of Tarboro, and Molly Smith of the home; six brothers, Elmer Smith, Wilber Smith, Robert Smith, Hal Smith, Earle Smith and Larry Smith, all of White Lake; four sisters, Edna News, Hazel Chadwick and Peggy Poole, all of White Lake, and Mary Ruth Grainger of Florida; 18 grandchildren; and eight great - grandchildren.
The funeral and receiving of friends were Sunday. A graveside service was Monday at Smith Family Cemetery, Garland.

SHELBY - Mrs. Evelyn Downs Humphries, 64, of 812 Surrey Drive, died
Sunday, May 13, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Dover. She worked as a receptionist at Crawley Memorial Hospital for 15 years. She was a member of Zoar Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Jean Elliott Circle and the Lydia Sunday school class.
She is survived by her husband, Clyde E. Humphries Sr. of the home; two sons and daughters - in - law, Clyde E. "Eddie" and Teresa Humphries of Kings Mountain and Ronnie and Mindy Humphries of Shelby; two grandsons, Christopher Humphries and Andrew Humphries, both of Kings Mountain; three granddaughters, Amanda Humphries of Kings Mountain and Mallory Humphries and Natalie Humphries, both of Shelby; a brother and sister - in - law, Tommy and Debbie Dover of Shelby; a niece, Tammy Dover Costner of Fallston; and a nephew, Chip Dover of Shelby.
