A graveside service will be Sunday at 4 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery in Spartanburg, S.C., with full Masonic rites.

Vergus Davis
PHILADELPHIA - Mr. Vergus Joe Davis, 70, of 5339 Reinhard St., died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at Veterans Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a member of Bibleway Baptist Church and a former member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Shelby. He was retired from Pharmaceist Cal Co., and a graduate of Cleveland High School and N.C. A&T University, and a veteran of the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Pearl Graham.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Davis of the home; a daughter, Doris Hall of Jacksonville; two sons, Vergus Davis Jr. of Philadelphia and Keith Davis of New York City; two sisters, Lenora Brown of Philadelphia and Pearlene London of Shelby; a brother, Charles G. Davis of Fayetteville; one granddaughter; and nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Perry's Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Bowling Green Cemetery.
The family will receive friends an hour before the funeral. The family may be contacted at the home of his sister, Pearlene London, 402 Oak St., Shelby.

Cline Falls
LAWNDALE - Mr. Daniel Cline Falls, 90, of 218 E. Stagecoach Trail, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at Cleveland Pines.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a farmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Franklin and Hattie Irene Costner Falls; his first wife, Mae Sain Falls; two sisters, Mae Borders and Ella Royster; and two brothers, Otis Falls and Vess Falls.
He is survived by his wife, Veva C. Spangler Falls of Shelby; two sons and daughters-in-law, Harold and Betty Falls of Concord, and George and Joyce Falls of Lawndale; a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Clayton Dellinger of Mount Holly; three brothers, W.E. Falls of Hickory, John Falls Jr. of Lawndale and Ambrose Falls of Shelby; two sisters, Vangie Mincey of Raleigh and Ruth Hamrick of Lattimore; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral is today at 3:30 p.m. at St. Peter's United Methodist Church, with the Revs. Steve Kiser and Jack Owenby officiating. The body will be placed in the church 90 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends for 90 minutes before the service at the church.

Beatrice Parker
SHELBY - Mrs. Beatrice Navey Parker, 85, of 1131 S. DeKalb St., died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Alavista, Va., she was a retired labeler at Lily Mill Co. and a member of Royster Avenue Church of God and Lily Old Timers Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joshua and Sarah Ann Bumgardner Navey; her husband, Bate Parker; six sisters, Pearl Corriber, Bonnie Dover, Addie Carpenter, Ocie Looney, Bessie Lippard and Myrtle Navey; and six brothers, Ben Navey, Earnest Navey, Lee Navey, Tom Navey, Rufes Navey and James Navey.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby F. and Joann Parker of Shelby; a sister, Verna Navey Wilson of Shelby; three grandchilden and their spouses; Farrel. R Parker, Bobby G. and Janice Parker, and Cheryl and Earl Parker II; and a great-grandson, Ryan Parker.
A graveside service will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery, with the Rev. Nathaniel Jones officiating.
The family will receive friends for an hour before the service at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home. Family headquarters is at the home, 1131 S. DeKalb St.
Deanna Rushen
MINT HILL - Ms. Deanna Cook Rushen, 55, died Friday, Oct. 1, 1999, at Presbyterian Hospital.
A native of Mecklenburg County, she was retired from the N.C. Transportation Department appraisal office, was a member of Church of the Savior and past member of Cindrick Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sumpter Cook Jr. and Margarette Dulin Cook.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah Rushen Dunlap and Edward Dunlap Jr. of Mint Hill; two sisters, Jane Cook Parks of Charlotte and Beverly Cook Putnam of Kings Mountain; five aunts, Annie B. Dulin and Rosella D. Newell of Mint Hill, Ellie Cook of Charlotte, Margaret Lemmond of Huntersville and Martha Dulin of Mint Hill; and a nephew, Clay Putnam of Kings Mountain.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Church of the Savior, with the Rev. N.C. Strickland officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Verda Beattie Carpenter, 87, of 319 Beattie Road, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was a homemaker, and a member of Mary's Grove United Methodist Church and Mary's Grove UMC Women.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Carpenter; her parents, P. Pinkney "Pink" Beattie and Emma Sellers Beattie; and a son, Wray Keith Carpenter.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, J.P. and Pat Carpenter of Kings Mountain; a daughter and son-in-law, Faye Carpenter and Bill Whitney of Kings Mountain; three grandchildren, Donna Carpenter Haskett and Steve Carpenter, both of Kings Mountain, and Daniel Carpenter of Enfield; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Mary's Grove United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dick Mitchem officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Marie Davis
POLKVILLE - Mrs. Marie Dinkins Davis, 71, of 2727 Hollis Road, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Lancaster County, S.C., she was a homemaker and worked at Springs Mills in Fort Mill, S.C., for 25 years. She was a member of Polkville Baptist Church and an active member of Polkville Baptist Women.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert London Davis; her parents, John Henry and Arlie Sims Dinkins; a granddaughter, Whitney Davis; and a sister, Annie Marlowe.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Bob and Wendi Davis and Ronnie Davis, all of Shelby; a daughter, Becky Eller of Newland; a brother, Jimmy Dinkins of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Nellie Coates and Ruby Truesdale, both of Lancaster, S.C.; and five grandchildren, Robbie Eller, Jennifer Eller and Erika Eller, all of Newland, Brandy Eller of Linville Falls and Hobie Davis of Shelby.
The funeral will be Monday at 4 p.m. at Polkville Baptist Church, with the Rev. Alton Martin officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Joe Allison
SHELBY - Mr. Joe B. Allison, 52, of 2505 Wildwood Drive, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, in Gaston County.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Hubert and Pearlie Caldwell Allison. He was a self-employed painter. He had worked at Carolina Freight Carriers for eight years. He was a member of Fairview AME Zion Church where he served as a trustee, Sunday school treasurer and a member of the vocal choir. He was a Navy veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Gregory Allison.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Love Allison; one daughter Pamela Allison of Shelby; four sons, Andre' Allison of Shelby, Timothy Allison, Michael Allison and Reginald Allison, all of the home; two brothers, Roger Allison and Billy Allison, both of Shelby; and one sister, Shirley McCree of Kings Mountain.
The funeral will be Monday at 3 p.m. at Fairview AME Zion Church with the Rev. Marion Jones officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday 30 minutes before the service at the church.

Mardecia Harrill
BESSEMER CITY - Mrs. Mardecia Eaker Harrill, 94, of 2520 Tryon Courthouse Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at Carolina Care in Cherryville.
A native of Gaston County, she was born on June 10, 1905, the daughter of the late Hiram Richard and Ola Blalock Eaker. She taught in the Cleveland County School System. She taught at and was principal at Blackrock School, Cherryville, Kings Mountain, Polkville and Number Three schools. After 45 years of service, she retired. She was a graduate of Women's College in Greensboro, and was a member of Concord United Methodist Church in Bessemer City.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, C.V. Harrill; and two brothers, Everette E. Eaker and Loyd Eaker.
She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Barbara Eaker Heafner of the home; and two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Virginia Eaker of Bessemer City and Mrs. Evelyn Eaker of the home; nephews and nieces, Richard and Martha Eaker of Cherryville, Forrest and Sussie Eaker of Belmont, Bud and Lynn Helms of Gastonia and Joe and Sandra Helms of Bessemer City; and a number of great-nephews and nieces.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Cone Memorial Chapel at Carpenter's Funeral Home with the Rev. Claudia Harrelson officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Shelby.

Raleigh Martin
MOORESBORO - Mr. Raleigh N. Martin, 81, of 532 Sandy Run Church Road, died Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at his residence.
A native of Cherokee County, S.C., he was the son of the late James Aker and Ofa Taylor Martin. He retired in 1982 from Duke Power after 35 years of service. He was a member of Cherokee Creek Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and was an usher for 30 years. He was a member of the Cleveland County Golf Association for 15 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Phillips Martin; four brothers, Robert Lee Martin, Joe Martin, Ralph Martin and R.B. Martin; and eight sisters, Margaret Ophelia Ruppe, Nezzie Rachel Hammett, Cenie Wood, Lennie Hammett, Vada Wood, Mitt Botier, Macie Linder and Flora Mae Scruggs.
He is survived by his wife, Bertie B. Martin of the home; one son, Jerry E. Martin of Mooresboro; one daughter, Gloria M. Burnett of Edgefield, S.C.; one stepson, Johnny Lovelace Jr. of Rutherfordton; one stepdaughter, Jane L. Price of Cliffside; three brothers, Williard Martin of Gaffney, S.C., K.D. Martin of Belmont and Henry Martin of Crouse; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat-grandchild.
The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Cherokee Creek Baptist Church with the Revs. Mike Fraizer and Clifford Bradshaw officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Harold Wilson Sr.
GREEN POND, S.C. - Mr. Harold T. Wilson Sr., 75, of Rt. 1, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at his residence.
A native of Shelby, he was born on July 29, 1924, the son of the late Raymond D. and Beddie Mull Wilson. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth Wilson.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Cross Wilson; three sons, Dr. Harold T. Wilson Jr. of Gastonia, David Wilson of Manhattan, N.Y. and Donald Wilson of Raleigh; one daughter, Sharon Wilson of the home; four brothers, Floyd E. Wilson of Long Island, Eugene B. Wilson of Shelby, Worth W. Wilson of Gastonia and Matthew Wilson of Newton; three sisters, Montrose Withrow of Reidsville, Annette Wilson of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Fanny Bell Williamson of Greensboro.
The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Saint Mary's AME Zion Church in Green Pond. Burial will be Monday at Long Island National Cemetery in Farmington, N.Y.

VALDESE - Mr. Donald R. Wilkie, 62, of Dixie Avenue, died Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, at his residence.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born on February 1, 1937, the son of the late Roy Lee and Leona Fannie Smith Wilkie. He worked in the furniture industry.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Ed Wilkie and Nerlin Wilkie.
He is survived by his wife, Judith Katherine Sellers Wilkie; one son, Robert V. Wilkie of Valdese; one daughter and son-in-law, Katherine Wilkie and Dennis Wellman of Valdese; one brother, Larry Wilkie of Hickory; six sisters, Faye Lutz of Valdese, Went Watts and Hilda Goode, both of Hickory, Dorothy McCracken and Ruth Geeter, both of Lawndale and Jen Sisk of Shelby; and two grandchildren, Melissa Dianne Wellman and Keith Wayne Wellman.
