Linda Carpenter
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Linda Williams Carpenter, 54, of 107 Vickie Drive, died Thursday, Oct. 15, 1999, at her residence.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Julius and Avalona Mae Champion Williams. She was employed with Artee Industries in Shelby. She was a member of David Baptist Church in Kings Mountain.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Carpenter; one brother, Elmer Williams; and one sister, Anna Ware.
She is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law, Archie Carpenter of Gaffney, S.C., Joe and Angela Carpenter of Fayetteville and Robert Carpenter of Grover; one daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Charles Jenkins of Lawndale; her mother-in-law, Eavey G. Carpenter of Cherryville; one brother and sister-in-law, Herman Max and Estelle Williams of Hollywood, Fla.; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Lucille and Jake Wyte, Victoria Sellers and Corrine Hamrick, all of Kings Mountain, Pauline and Willie Arrowood of Forest City and Thelma Weaver of Shelby; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Claude McIntosh and Willie Arrowood officiating. Burial will follow at Cherryville Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 ot 9 at Harris Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Elizabeth "Betty" Wilson
SUNBURY, Pa. - Mrs. Elizabeth K. "Betty" Wilson, 83, of 133 N. 8th St., died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at Sunbury Community Hospital.
A native of Philadelphia, she was born on May 21, 1916, the daughter of the late Norris and Kathryn Myers. She worked as a clerk for various drug stores and last worked for Peoples Drug Stores. She attended Coal Township Schools. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William "Whity" Wilson, who died April 6, 1973; one daughter, Alberta Terrence, who died July 19, 1997; and one brother, Norris Myers.
She is survived by one daughter, Rosemarie Jaymes of Gastonia; granddaughters, Mrs. Richard (Betsy) Barnes of Boone, Mrs. Scott (Dina) Beam of Gastonia; one great-grandson, Dakota Barnes of Boone; sisters, Mrs. Lydia Raup of Trevorton, Pa., Sara Kramer of Charlotte and Edith Tressler of Millersburg, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Farrow Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Northumberland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

William "Bill" Weaver
BESSEMER CITY - Mr. William "Bill" Caldwell Weaver, 75, of 441 Weaver Dairy Road, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A native of Gaston County, he was born on May 10, 1924, the son of the late Walden and Beulah Kiser Weaver. He was the owner of Weaver Dairy Farm. He attended Catawba Heights Baptist Church. He was a 1946 honor graduate of North Carolina School of the Deaf where he was inducted into the NCSD Hall of Fame for Track and Basketball. He was a gardener with a love for flowers. He was a member of the National Fraternal Society of the Deaf and the FAED Club in Charlotte.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, John Weaver; and one sister, Kathryn Weaver.
He is survived by his wife, Susie Arrowood Weaver of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Johnny Dean of Gastonia; two brothers, Joe N. Weaver and Michael Gene Weaver, both of Bessemer City; two sisters, Peggy Suqiyama of Columbia, Md., and Frances Moore of Easley, S.C.; and two grandchildren, Christina Dean and Amber Dean, both of Gastonia.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Concord United Methodist Church with the Revs. Charles Arrowood and Leroy Adams officiating. Johnny Weaver, Joe Dawson, Floyd London, Timmy Moore, Dennis Weaver and Mike Weaver will serve as pallbearers. Burial will follow at Smyre Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the church.

Eunice "Trudy" Brigman
SHELBY - Ms. Eunice "Trudy" Brigman, 52, of 2804 W. Zion Church Road, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Richmond County, she was the daughter of the late Everett L. and Jessie S. Brigman. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Hoyt Stankwytch.
She is survived by one brother, Alex Jennings Brigman of Laurinburg; one half brother, James Carl Ingram of West Point, Ga.; four sisters, Frances Cribbs and Jeanette Brown, both of Shelby, Rena Hatcher of Greensboro and Lena Williams of Rockingham; seven nieces; five nephews; five great-nieces; and nine great-nephews.
The funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Victory Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Eastside Cemetery in Rockingham.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Lutz-Austell Funeral Home.

Annie Brooks
SPINDALE - Mrs. Annie Sara McDaniel Brooks, 87, of 704 Ridings St., died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Padgett and King Mortuary with the Revs. Nelson Brooks and Don Brooks and Mr. Mike Brooks officiating. Burial will follow at Bostic Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Robbie McClain
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Robbie Lee McClain, 62, of 238 Branchwood Circle, died Wednesday, Oct.13, 1999, at his residence.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Kings Mountain.
The family will receive friends Saturday 30 minutes before the service at the church.

Hilda Wilson
CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Hilda Case Wilson, 79, of 406 Myra Lane, died Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at her residence.
A native of Currituck, she was born on February 5, 1920, the daughter of the late Joseph B. and Emily J. Case. She was a retired teacher. She was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Bessemer City. She had been a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Shelby for more than 50 years. She was a member of Wilson-Woods Missionary Circle, Round Dozen Book Club, North Carolina Retired Teachers Association and Christian Woman's Club. She was an Adult Sunday School teacher.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Wilson; three brothers, William R. Case, Horace C. Case and Joseph B. Case Jr.; two sisters, Olivia Reid and Eva Morris; and one great-granddaughter, Keliah Cornwell.
She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Joanne and Earl Cornwell and Beverly Gaines, all of Lithonia, Ga., and Anita and Horace Maxwell of Cherryville; one brother, Arthur Case of Wyncote, Pa.; one sister, Martha Jarvis of Elizabeth City; two granddaughters, Jessika E. Cornwell and Lawren Gaines, both of Lithonia, Ga.; one grandson and his wife, Wesley and Keila Cornwell of College Park; one great-grandson, Keion W. Cornwell of College Park, Ga.; six sisters-in-law, Adgenora Case of Jarvisburg, Almeda Case of Washington, D.C., Bertha Case and Elizabeth Staples, both of Goldsboro, Louise Howell of Greensboro and Jennie Davis of Shelby; and many other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church with the Revs. O.R. Cleveland and Charles Turner officiating. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one before the service at the church.

Jack Abercrombie
FOREST CITY - Mr. Jack W. Abercrombie, 72, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Hobson officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Padgett & King Mortuary.

Jimmy Freeman
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Mr. Jimmy Freeman, 79, of 5001 Little Road, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at his residence.
A native of Jacksonville, Miss., he was born the son of the late Leo Leroy and Zola Hale Freeman. He was also the son of Elizabeth McBrayer Owen, who raised him from early age. He retired from the Employment Security Commission of North Carolina. He was a member of Shelby Presbyterian Church. He was an Army veteran who served in World War II. He was a graduate of Wake Forest University and attended North Carolina State University.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Williams Freeman; one daughter, Karen F. Rhyne of Shelby; two brothers, Eric Freeman of Alabama and Wilmer Freeman of Florida; and three grandchildren, Debbie Rhyne of Macon, Ga., Juli R. Ward of Mauldin, S.C., and Jamie Rhyne of Greenville, S.C.
A graveside service will be Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery with the Rev. Otis Wilson officiating.
Memorials may be made to the National Alzheimer's Association, Southern Piedmont Chapter, 2001 Vail Ave., Charlotte, N.C. 28107.

Melissa West
BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Ms. Melissa Anne West, 27, of 304 Dulin Road, died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Rock Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Brian Harris officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mark Wylie, Mike Fite, Craig Moss, Colt Fite, Jeremy Coggins and Glenn Moss Jr.
The family received friends Sunday from 7 to 8:30 at White Columns Funeral Service and will receive friends other times at the residence.

SHELBY - Mrs. Linda Maxwell, 67, of 2088 Fallston Road, died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at Hospice at Wendover.

SHELBY - Mrs. Virginia Harris Beam of Cleveland Pines, formerly of East Main St., Lawndale, died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999.

Linda Maxwell
SHELBY - Mrs. Linda Jackson Maxwell, 67, of 2088 Fallston Road, died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at Hospice at Wendover.
A native of Forsyth County, Ga., she was the daughter of the late Fred and Elsie Louise Morgan Jackson. She was retired from White Oak Manor of Kings Mountain where she worked as a certified nurse. She was a member of Patterson Springs Baptist Church. She was a published poet. Several of her poems were copyrighted.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Steve Dulaney and Robbie Thrift.
She is survived by one son, Stan Dulaney of Santa Ana, Calif.; one brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Evelyn Jackson of Shelby; five half brothers and their wives, Larry Bowen of Blacksburg, S.C., Bill Bowen of Shelby, Ronnie Bowen, Roger and Linda Bowen and Jimmy and Diane Bowen, all of Grover; one half sister, Betty Mayes of Grover; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the chapel at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home with the Rev. Len Byers officiating. Burial will follow at Patterson Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at the funeral home.

Virginia Beam
SHELBY - Mrs. Virginia Brown Harris Beam, 97, of 1404 N. Lafayette St., formerly of East Main Street, Lawndale, died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center.
A native of Cherokee County, S.C., she was born on June 17, 1902, the daughter of the late Joseph Suttle and Mary Ella Wood Harris. She retired after 42 years of service as a school teacher. She began her teaching career at Union School and later taught first grade at Piedmont School in Lawndale. She graduated from Piedmont High School and attended Appalachian State Teachers College. She was a member of Lawndale Baptist Church, where she taught in the Primary Department for many years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Hoyle Beam; three brothers, Kent Harris, Dent Harris and James Harris; and two sisters, Irene Harris Dixon and Verona Harris Poole.
She is survived by one sister-in-law, Madge Harris of Shelby, and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Lawndale Baptist Church with the Rev. Paul Williams officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Wednesday one hour before the service at the church.

Claude "Rick" Jennings Sr.
TUCSON, Ariz. - Mr. Claude Richard "Rick" Jennings Sr., 50, formerly of Shelby, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1999.
He fought leukemia for five years and launched a fight to educate African-Americans and minorities of the importance of becoming bone marrow donors.
He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans No. 2 and Veterans of Foreign Wars No. 1713. He served on the Veterans Affairs Committee for the City of Tucson. For three years he was chairperson for the Juneteenth Committee, which celebrates the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation.
He is survived by his wife, Varrie Edwards-Jennings of Tucson; five children, Claude R. Jennings II, Nina Novella Jennings, Chandra L. Johnson, Martinique A. Davis and Nile C. Holloway; one sister, Habiba Abdullah; one brother-in-law, Thomas Sanders; one niece, Kathy Jennings; and five grandchildren.
A graveside service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Webb Memorial Lawns.
Enloe Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

FOREST CITY - Mrs. Laura Odessa Cornish, 86, died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at Rutherford Hospital.

FOREST CITY - Mr. Johnny Brisco of Amity Apartment No. F-5, died Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at Rutherford Hospital.

Faris Bridges
SHELBY -Mr. Faris Roy Bridges, 85, of 302 Bear Creek Road, died Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Ruffin and Ola Hamrick Bridges. A self-employed carpenter and farmer, he was a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Inez Roberts Bridges; two brothers, Loyd Bridges and Herman Bridges; and a grandson, Richard Bridges.
Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph and Jean Bridges of Greensboro, Carl Ray and Shirley Bridges and Wayne and Charlotte Bridges, all of Shelby, and Max and Jeanette Bridges of Mooresboro; five daughters and four sons-in-law, Carol and A.J. Chapman of Shelby, Sylvia and Larry Lovelace of Lattimore, Diane and Glenn Bivins of Lawndale, Kay and Gilbert Santana of Burlington and Faye Bridges of the home; a brother and a sister, Evans Bridges and Doris Martin, both of Earl; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Mount Sinai Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jim Sparks and Broadus Heatherly officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home, and at other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to Mount Sinai Baptist Church building fund, 1227 Mount Sinai Church Road, Shelby, N.C. 28152.

Thomas Bridges
ORANGE PARK, Fla. - Mr. Thomas Tret Bridges, 65, formerly of Shelby, has died.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home in Orange Park, with the Rev. Pamula Royal officiating. Burial will be in Jacksonville Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight from 6 to 8.
