Flossie Allen
SHELBY - Mrs. Flossie Bolton Allen, 84, of 3609 Artee Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cherokee County, S.C., she was born on Aug. 16, 1915, the daughter of the late Joe Henry and Lovenia Anne Beheler Bolton. She was the cook for Westview Baptist Church daycare. She was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church where she was in the Dorcas Sunday school class, a member of the Joy Group and the Round Table.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Palmer Allen, and one son, Bud Allen.
She is survived by two sons, Jerry Allen of Byron, Ga., and James "Butch" Allen of Newport News, Va.; five daughters, Barbara Fowler, Linda Haynes, Joy McSwain and Kathy Hipps, all of Shelby, and Patsy Allen of Hillsborough; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Beaver Dam Baptist Church with the Rev. Ken Pruitt and Dr. Paul Sorrells officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and other times at the home of Keith and Kathy Hipps, 3609 Artee Road, Shelby.

Forrest Hill
SHELBY - Mr. Forrest W. Hill, 86, of 603 W. Dixon Blvd., died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Burke County, he was born on Feb. 1, 1913, the son of the late Willey and Margaret Smith Hill. He was retired from Dover Textiles. He was a member of Westwood Heights Baptist Church and was a former deacon and Sunday school teacher at Churchill Drive Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Dewey Hill, Murphy Hill, Foy Hill and Paul Hill; one stepbrother, Will Hill; three sisters, Myrtle Yarbro, Sally Hill Paige and Mary Sue Kanipe.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Canipe Hill of the home, and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Clay-Barnette Funeral Home with Dr. Paul Sorrells and the Revs. John Hunter and James Rice officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Ray Mellon Sr.
SHELBY - Mr. Charles Ray Mellon Sr., 78, of 117 Wolf Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born on Oct. 31, 1921, the son of Maude Lee Mellon of Shelby and the late Julius Ray Mellon. He was retired as a farmer and a fixer in textiles. He was a member of Mull's Memorial Baptist Church and a member of the Council on Aging/Senior Center of Shelby. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II and receiving a Purple Heart.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by four sons and two daughters-in-law, Gene and Pat Mellon and Wayne and Peggy Mellon, all of York, S.C., Dean Mellon of Seneca, S.C., and Charles Mellon Jr. of Grover; one daughter, Alice Wright of Jefferson, S.C.; one brother, J.D. Mellon of Shelby; ten grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service with military rites will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Mull's Memorial Baptist Church with the Rev. Ervin Price officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home and other times at the home of J.D. Mellon, 1217 Glenwood Ave., Shelby.
Troy Hamrick
MOORESBORO - Mr. Troy Vincent Hamrick, 86, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999.
A native of Caroleen, he was the son of the late Lonzy Tillman and Carrie McSwain Hamrick. He was a retired salesman, having worked many years for the L.B. Price Mercantile Company. He was a member of Ardmore Baptist Church for 50 years before moving to the "Home Place" and joining Race Path Baptist Church. He was active in the North Carolina Baptist Convention and the Southern Baptist Convention, serving at various times on the Sunday school board of the Southern Baptist Convention, the general board of the North Carolina Baptist Convention and on various committees for both. He served as moderator for the Pilot Mountain Baptist Association as well as in other capacities. He was known as "Mr. Training Union" for his leadership skills in local churches. He sang in church choirs all his life. He was also a mason.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Joyce Hamrick Sargrad, and two brothers, L.T. Hamrick and J.B. Hamrick.
He is survived by his wife, Lydia Causby Hamrick; two sons and daughters-in-law, Vincent Sr. and Ann Marie Hamrick of Tobaccoville and Don and Laura Hamrick of Apex; one daughter and son-in-law, Juanda Hamrick and Dr. Ralph Halliwill of Gastonia; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Hal and Selma Hamrick and Weldon and Luci Hamrick, all of Gastonia; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Violet Bradley of Black Mountain and Norma Hamrick and Furman Wolfe of Swannanoa; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Race Path Baptist Church in Ellenboro. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

SHELBY - Mrs. Jean Middaugh Keller, 94, of 336 Circleview Drive, died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at her residence.

Mary Ruth Spikes
PERRY, Fla. - Mrs. Mary Ruth Oates Abrams Spikes, 85, died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at Terry Nursing Home of Florida.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Ellis and Cynthia Wilson Oates. She was a former member of Washington Baptist Church. Later she joined New Brooklyn Missionary Baptist Church, where she was active until her health failed.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Odis Abrams; two sisters, Flossie Raper and Myrtle Cornwell; and four brothers, Walter Oates, Lester Oates, Randell Oates and Clifton Oates.
She is survived by her husband, Veril Spikes of White, Fla.; one godson, Edgar Abrams of New York; one sister, Nida Dewberry of Pineville, La.; one niece, Mary Jane Wilson.
The funeral was Saturday, Nov. 13 at New Brooklyn Missionary Baptist Church. Burial followed at Springfield Cemetery in Perry, Fla.

Herbert Addis
SHELBY - Mr. Herbert W. Addis, 85, of 419 E. Graham St., died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at White Oak Manor in Shelby.
A native of Cherokee County, S.C., he was the son of the late Hubert and Lula Addis. He was retired from Dover Mill. He was a member of Dover Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lois Audry McCarver Addis; one son, Richard W. Addis of Shelby; one daughter, Tana Heath of Columbus, Ga.; two sisters, Louise Corbett and Doris Hodges, both of Gaffney, S.C.; and two grandchildren, Richard W. Jr. and Beth Addis of Charlotte and Glisson and Glen Haney of Columbus, Ga.
A graveside service will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery with the Rev. Phil Bailey officiating.
The family will receive friends Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Lutz-Austell Funeral Home.

Thomas Cunningham
DARLINGTON, S.C. - Mr. Thomas Brockman Cunningham, 77, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at his residence.
A native of Greenville, S.C., he was the son of the late Gus Enoch and Anna Victoria Williams Cunningham. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving as a flight engineer during World War II. He was a retired farmer and a member of Central Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, a trustee and a former Sunday school teacher. He was a director of Darlington County Water and Sewer Authority; a member of South Carolina Association of Special Purpose Districts; a director, secretary and treasurer of Pee Dee Electric Cooperative Inc.; and a Trustee of the Electric Cooperative of S.C. He also was a director of Darlington County Bank and a former Darlington County Agriculture Businessman of the Year. He was a former president of the S.C. Pork Board and of the S.C. Electric Cooperative Association.
In 1960, he was chosen S.C. Young Farmer of the Year. He was a life member of Saint David's Lodge No. 72 AFM, a former chairman and director of the Pee Dee Farm Credit Board and former president of the National Association of Farmer-elected ASC Committeemen. He was a former member of the Kiwanis Club and the Brockington Hunt Club.
He was preceded in death by one son, Teddy Cunningham.
He is survived by his wife, Billie Fleming Cunningham of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Tim and Margaret Cunningham of Florence, S.C.; two daughters and one son-in-law, Ann Cunningham of Charlotte and Carol and Tommy Barnes of Shelby; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Central Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Darlington Memory Gardens.

Elizabeth "Lib" Perkins
DALLAS, N.C. - Mrs. Elizabeth "Lib" Avolna Rose Perkins, 80, formerly of South College Street, died Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, at Woodlawn Haven Nursing Home in Mount Holly.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Nathan Daniel and Mary Jane Childers Rose. She was a retired textile employee and a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Lowell.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Luther Holland Perkins; two brothers; and three sisters.
She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, James Michael and Sandy Perkins and Luther Harold Perkins, all of Dallas, and Bobby Dean and Lila Perkins of Gastonia; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Joyce and J.D. Stafford of Dallas and Jean Panther and John Landford Jr. of Bessemer City; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Dallas Funeral Home with the Revs. James Drennan and Roy Barbee officiating. Burial will follow at Edgewood Cemetery in Lowell.

Vonessa Ann Hargro
SHELBY - Miss Vonessa Ann Hargro, 41, of 1530 E. Dixon Blvd., died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
A native of Cleveland County, she was born on July 4, 1958, the daughter of Charles Franklin Hargro of Shelby and the late Carolyn Logan Hargro. She was a member of Good Samaritan Fellowship Church and was formerly employed at J.P. Stevens Mill.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by one son, Tyson Withrow; and one great aunt, Mrs. Josie Logan Bostic.
In addition to her father, she is survived by three daughters, Tamica Hargro, Tara Hargro and Tyanna Hargro, all of Durham; one brother, Kevin Hargro of Shelby; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Charlene H. and Myron Warren of Durham, Gina H. and William Younger of Charlotte; two grandchildren, N'Dea Wilson and A'Mya Wilson, both of Durham; one grandmother, Mrs. Hattie Logan Richard of Charlotte; one niece, Raina Butler of Charlotte; one nephew, Justin Warren of Durham; her companion, Wade Withrow of Shelby; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Good Samaritan Baptist Church with the Rev. R.E. Devoe officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns.

SPINDALE - Mr. Jasper Turner, 84, of 100 Williamsburg Dr., died Monday, Nov. 15, 1999, at Rutherford Hospital in Rutherfordton.

Calvin Bayliff Sr.
VIENNA, Va. - Mr. Calvin Orman Bayliff Sr., 69, died Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, at his residence.
A native of Shenandoah, Pa., he lived in Northern Virginia since his graduation from high school. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1948 to 1952. He graduated from George Washington University where he earned a bachelor's degree in political science. He was a leading electrical contractor in the Washington area, working in the electrical industry from 1953 until he retired in 1995. A founder of Coastal Electric Corporation, he served as president of the organization from 1967 until 1995. He was a member of many professional organizations, including the National Electrical Contractor's Association, Local 26 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Contractors and the Academy of Electrical Contracting, where he was awarded a fellowship for exceptional and outstanding service to the electrical contracting industry. He refinished furniture, played golf and traveled in his spare time.
He is survived by his wife, the former Rachael McCall Elam, the daughter of Marilue Roberts Elam and the late James D. Elam of Belwood; seven children; nine grandchildren; and four sisters.
A memorial service was Sunday, Nov. 14, at 2 p.m. at National Memorial Funeral Home in Falls Church, Va.
The family received friends Sunday at the funeral home.

FOREST CITY - Mr. John David Hardin, 80, of Henderson Care Center, died Sunday, Nov. 14, 1999, at Rutherford Hospital.

Buford Robbs
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Buford Robbs, 75, of 108 Cash Road, died Wednesday, Nov. 17, 1999, at Hospice at Wendover in Shelby.
A native of Cherokee County, S.C., he was the son of Bunah Humphries Robbs of Kings Mountain and the late James Howard Robbs. He was a retired machinist with Bradley Flyer and Repair Co. He was a member of Second Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, Lyman Robbs.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, James D. and Jonanna A. Robbs and Eddie M. and Judie I. Robbs, all of Kings Mountain; two brothers, Robert Robbs of Newport News, Va., and Johnny Robbs of Shelby; four sisters, Louise Redmond of Hampton, Va., Helen Tate of Kings Mountain, Faye Tate and Jewel Warlick, both of Charlotte; three grandchildren, Holly Robbs of Shelby and Shelly Human and Amy Yarbrough, both of Kings Mountain; and two great-grandchildren, Joshua Human and Grace Yarbrough.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Dixon and Dr. John Sloan officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
