Margaret Ledford
SHELBY - Mrs. Margaret Watson Ledford of 713 W. Warren St., Shelby, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, at her home.
A native of Anderson County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late I.J. Watson and Georgiana Davis. She was a homemaker.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, J. Flay Ledford; a daughter, Libby Watson; three brothers, George Watson, Frank Watson and Baxter Watson; and two sisters, Inez Wilson and Mint Wright.
She is survived by a foster daughter, Barbara Bridges of Charlotte; four grandchildren, Tommy Bridges of Charlotte, Baxter Bridges of China Grove, Linda Bridges Floyd of Charlotte and Betsy Bridges Willoughby of Prince George, Va.; and several nieces.
A graveside service will be at 3:30 p.m. today at Sunset Cemetery, with the Rev. Joe Reeves officiating. There will be no visitation.

CASAR - Mr. J.D. Cook, 77, of 225 Cook Road, died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born March 8, 1922, in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Julius P. and Lettie Lee Ledford Cook. He was a retired supervisor at Cleveland Mills and was a member of Morris Memorial Baptist Church, where he was the former Adult Men's Sunday School Class teacher. He was an Army veteran of World War II.
He was also preceded in death by six brothers, the Revs. Ottis Cook and Ivey Cook, Horace Cook, Bryson Cook, Buren Cook and Paul B. Cook; and three sisters, Minnie Spencer, Zettie Rikard and Bertie Greene.
He is survived by his wife, Vernett Turner Cook of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Carol Cook, the Rev. Tommy and Stary Cook and Douglas and Joyce Cook, all of Casar; a brother, Wilford Cook of Shelby; a sister, Ethel Brittain Blackburn of Shelby; four grandsons, Neal Cook and his wife, Charlotte, Beryl Cook and his wife, Sommer, Brandon Cook and Bryan Cook; a granddaughter, Kristie Wellmon and her husband, Jacob; and four great-grandsons, Matthew Cook, Nathan Cook, Elijah Cook and Jordan Cook.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Morris Memorial Baptist Church, with the Revs. Chris Emory and Tommy Cook officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Stamey Funeral Home.

GAFFNEY, S.C. - Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Thomas of 115 First St. died Thursday, Nov. 25, 1999, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today at Oakland Cemetery, with the Rev. William Willis officiating.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the Cemetery, and at other times at the home.

Paul Whetstone Sr.
SHELBY - Mr. Paul A. Whetstone Sr., 74, of 206 Country Club Circle, died Friday, Nov. 26, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.
A native of Pinellas County, Fla., he was a textile engineer for 38 years and later worked for Knight Publishing Co. He was a member of Shelby Presbyterian Church, graduated from Durham High School and N.C. State University School of Textiles, and served in the U.S. Navy in World War II on the destroyer USS Leary.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul A. and Mary Jones Whetstone.
He is survived by his wife, Elmira Whitley Whetstone; son Paul A. Whetstone III of Durham; daughters and son-in-law, Susan W. Larimore of High Point, Ruth and Anthony Ray Schallert of High Point; brother-in-law and wife Robert and Margaret Whitley of Philadelphia, Pa.; sister and brother-in-law Gloria W. and J. Anthony Houser of Raleigh; nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Holly and Evan Schallert of High Point.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Shelby Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Luke Harkey and the Rev. George Rolling officiating. A graveside service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Maplewood Cemetery in Durham.
The family will receive friends Monday after the service.

SHELBY - Mr. William Boyce Glenn, 78, of 417 E. Graham St., died Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Jess and Pearl Moore Glenn. He was a retired owner/operator of a service station. He was a Baptist. He was an Army veteran who served in World War II. He was a member of the VIII Engineer Corp. who served in the European Theater.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry Palmer Glenn and Jess Baxter Glenn.
He is survived by his former wife, Lorene Wright Glenn of Shelby; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan Glenn and Tony Beaver of Polkville; one grandson, Dylan Beaver of Polkville; one granddaughter, Emily Beaver of Polkville; one brother, George Harrison Glenn of Shelby; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary Glenn and Bill Lynn and Lily Glenn Tessener, all of Shelby; and his faithful companion, Dolly Dog.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the chapel at Cleveland Funeral Services with Dr. Horace DuBose III officiating. Burial will follow at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.

FALLSTON - Mr. Kirby Dean Martin, 65, of 4302 Fallston Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999, at his residence.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born on August 14, 1934, the son of the late Warren Jackson and Eudora Hoyle Martin. He was a retired textile worker and farmer. He was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Lettie Jo Cummings Martin of Fallston; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rick and Chris Martin and Steve and Penny Martin, all of Fallston; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Andy Boggs of Fallston; one sister and brother-in-law, Teresa M. and Leon Leonhardt of Fallston; and seven grandchildren, Brandi Brogden, Travis Martin, Kellie Martin, Kevin Martin, Matthew Martin, Drew Boggs and Austin Boggs.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Friendship United Methodist Church with the Revs. Eddie Ingram and Erman Bradley officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Charlene Crocker Flores, 39, of Barringer Drive, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 1999, at her residence.
A native of Kings Mountain, she was the daughter of Charles A. Crocker of Kings Mountain and the late Betty Leach Williams. She was employed by Dye-Chem International of Charlotte. She was a member of Long Branch Baptist Church in Grover. She later joined Cathy Memorial Church on Chicago Avenue in Charlotte.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Rodie and Alberta Crocker and James and Lillian Leach.
In addition to her father, she is survived by her husband, Pedro Flores of Charlotte; one sister, Linda Sue Crocker of Kings Mountain; one brother, Terry Lee Crocker of Kings Mountain; one nephew, Adrian Crocker of Kings Mountain; one niece, Kanisha Crocker of Kings Mountain; four aunts, Goldie Virginia Leach of Kings Mountain, Nancy Leach Julius of New Rochelle, N.Y., Brenda Leach Williams of Baltimore, and Tenna Leach Adams of Shelby; four uncles, James Leach Jr. of Kings Mountain, Bobby E. Leach and Wayne Leach, both of Shelby, and Donald Leach of Winston-Salem; one great-aunt, Mrs. Earlene Crocker of Kings Mountain; and many other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Cathy Memorial Church in Charlotte with the Rev. Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Long Branch Cemetery in Grover.

A native of Cleveland County, she was born on June 19, 1924, the daughter of the late Jerry Lee and Phosie Cooper Runyan. She was a homemaker and a member of New Bethel Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, J.C. Runyan and Joe Runyan; one sister, Queen R. Simmons; and one grandson, Christopher N. Porter.
She is survived by her husband, John F. Falls Jr. of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Stephen L. and Jane Falls of Shelby; one daughter and son-in-law, Brenda F. and Norman Porter of Kannapolis; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Morris and Frances Runyan of Earl and Billy and Joann Runyan of Cherryville; one sister, Grace Lyerly of Charlotte; four granddaughters, Stephanie P. Reavis and her husband, Derek, of Simpsonville, S.C., Jennifer P. He was a member of Bethpage Lutheran Church in Lincolnton. He was graduate of Cherryville High School and Kings Business College in Charlotte. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Huss Leonhardt of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Steven and Vivette Leonhardt of Lincolnton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Gene Tallent of Shelby and Becky and Ronnie Engle of Cherryville; one sister, Mrs. Betty Reep of Cherryville; two grandchildren, Teddi Neal and Ronald Leonhardt; and three great-grandchildren, Seth Neal, Ryan Neal and Jessi Neal.
