Vance Robinson
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Charles Vance Robinson, 63, of 103 Harbourtown Drive, died Sunday, Nov. 28, 1999, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Norfolk, Va., he was born April 19, 1936, the son of the late Theodore and Ethel Robinson. He was educated in the public schools in Norfolk. He attended North Carolina Central University in Durham. He was drafted into the Army during his senior year. He was North Carolina Central's top ranked sprinter from 1956 to 1960 and was on the team that opposed Russia in the dual track and field meet of 1960. He also was a member of the U.S. Pan American team and participated in Quantico and Penn Relays. As a protégé of Dr. Leroy T. Walker, he competed in track and field events throughout the United States. He received a bachelor's degree from Goddard College in Plainfield, Vt. He worked as a counselor at Spofford Juvenile Center in Bronx, N.Y., and for Half-Hollow Hills School District in Dix Hills, N.Y., until his retirement in 1995. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Bay Shore, N.Y.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepmother, Margaret "Mother Dear" Robinson; and one brother, Willie Brummage Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn Borders Robinson; two daughters, Erica Natasha Robinson of Bronx and Kristen Heather Robinson of St. Louis; three sisters, Katherine Perry (Everett) of New York, Dorothea Howard and Clarice Sharpe (James), both of Norfolk; two brothers-in-law, O.J. Borders and Andrew Borders, both of Shelby; a special nephew, Willie Brummage Jr. of Norfolk; six sisters-in-law, Mary Lee Gleaves of Shelby, Willette Tyler of Mount Holly, N.Y., Corene Freeman of Lowell, Mass., and Geneva Ramseur, Oreatha Bridges (Furman) and Shirley Borders, all of Charlotte; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Shelby with Dr. S.A. Raper and the Rev. Zeno T. Borders officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service Thursday at the church.

BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Mrs. Mary Moore Mullinax, 81, of 261 E. Jones St., died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
A graveside service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Clingman Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Joe Clayton officiating.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Mrs. Rebecca Ann Silver Brown, 56, of 210 Cliffdale Road, died Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Edgar and Mary Louise Hamrick Silver. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Ronnie D. Brown; two sons, Keith Davis of Forest City and Steve Davis of Lawndale; one stepdaughter, Mrs. Nikki Little of Sumter, S.C.; two brothers, John Silver of Mooresville and Ray Silver of Mooresboro; and three sisters, Mrs. Christean Absher and Mrs. Mary Jane Hutchins, both of Harris, and Mrs. Ellen Fletcher of Forest City.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home with the Rev. Roger Blankenship officiating. Entombment will follow at 4 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Spartanburg.

Joe Ann Crawford
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Joe Ann Blalock Crawford died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999, at her home.
A native of Kings Mountain, she was born on March 3, 1930, the daughter of Charles Edward Blalock Sr. of Kings Mountain and the late Dorothy Mae Miller Blalock. She is a 1948 graduate of Central High School. In 1968, she became the first woman real estate broker in Kings Mountain and later became a charter member of Kings Mountain Association of Realtors. She was a member of Boyce Memorial ARP Church, where she served in many capacities and was a member of Flora Halliday Circle. She was a former member of Kings Mountain Woman's Club. She accompanied and complemented her husband during his tenure as District Governor for International Association of Lions Clubs and as Wood Badge Deputy Camp Chief of Boy Scouts of America. After retiring, she enjoyed visiting shut-ins and spending time with her family and friends. She was a jovial and dedicated friend.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Ann Cornwell.
She is survived by her husband of more than 50 years, Mr. William Donald Crawford; one granddaughter, Angela Kay Davis of Kings Mountain; one grandson, William Paul Cornwell of Charlotte; one great-granddaughter, Kelsie Kay Davis of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Sybil Hamrick and Frieda Grayson, both of Kings Mountain; and one brother, Charles Edward Blalock Jr. of Kings Mountain.
The funeral will be Friday at 7 p.m. at Boyce Memorial ARP Church with the Rev. Douglas Petersen officiating. Burial will follow Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday after the service at the church until 9 p.m.

SHELBY - Mr. Charles Edward Winfield Sr., 77, of Cleveland Pines Nursing Center, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center.
A native of Anson County, he was born on Jan. 22, 1922, the son of the late Edward Liles and Emmie Susan Ratliff Winfield. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Shelby. He retired from Carolina Power and Light after 41 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Rosie R. Winfield; his sons and daughters-in-law, Charles E. Jr. and Hester of Mooresboro, D. Wayne Sr. and Kathy of Shelby; his grandchildren, Jimmy Winfield and Brian Winfield, both of Monroe, D. Wayne Winfield Jr. and his wife, Leslie of Shelby; his great-grandchildren, Montanna Winfield, Kiersten Winfield and Jagger Reid Winfield, all of Shelby; one brother and sister-in-law, Joseph R. and Anna Lee Winfield of Wadesboro.

GASTONIA - Mr. James "Hubert" Hunt Sr., 77, of 4312 S. Falls St., died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A native of Gastonia, he was born on Nov. 16, 1922, the son of the late Julius B. and Zulia Painter Hunt. He was a retired iron foundry worker from Stovall Foundry. He was a veteran of World War II and of the National Guard and a member of the VFW in Gastonia and Lincolnton. He was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church in McAdenville.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl Smith Hunt; three sons, James H. Hunt Jr. and his wife Regina of Stanley, Jimmy L. Hunt and his wife Louise, and Steve Hunt and his wife Sue, all of Gastonia; three daughters, Rosemary Norris and her husband Johnny, and Patty Hawkins, all of Gastonia, Cynthia Hord and her husband James of Dowagiac, Mich.; one brother, J.W. Hunt of Casar; two sisters, Pearlie Mae Hoyle of Polkville and Josephine Reagan of Sevierville, Tenn.; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Lakeview Baptist Church in McAdenville with the Rev. Virgil B. Harper and Mr. Dan Tallent officiating. Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park. Full military honors will be observed by the The Last Man's Club.

SHELBY - Ms. Lola Jessie Biddix, 96, of 2438 Washburn Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999, at White Oak Manor in Shelby.
A native of Rutherford County, she was the daughter of the late Jessie Rudolph and Sarah Padgett Biddix. She retired from Ora Mills after 44 years of service. She was a member of Dover Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five sisters, Cora Eledge, Lillie Turner, Ann Weaver, Jean Micham and Nell Biddix.
She is survived by one daughter, Dorothy "Dot" Bridges and her husband Hershel of Shelby; one brother, P.D. Biddix of Shelby; one grandson, Ken Bridges and his wife Karen of Shelby; and two great-grandsons, Preston Bridges and Todd Bridges.

A native of Highland County, Va., she was the daughter of the late George Liston and Nancy Alma Piercy Moore. She was a member of Kings Mountain Baptist Church and a former member of Oak View Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school for 60 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Charles Earl Oxford; five brothers; and one sister.
She is survived by one son, Charles Oxford Jr. of Gastonia; two daughters and one son-in-law, Nancy O. Rhyne and Bobbie O. and Andrew Mraz, all of Kings Mountain; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A native of Rutherford County, she was born on Aug. 26, 1916, the daughter of the late Louis and Flossie Mae Henderson Lovelace. She was a homemaker and a member of Walls Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Rex Holland, and two daughters, Betty Holland and Eunice Irvin.
She is survived by five sons and four daughters-in-law, J.B. and Patsy Holland of Henrietta, Earl and Donnis Holland of Ellenboro, Charles and Donna Holland of Lattimore, James and Renee Holland of Forest City and Jerry Holland of Shelby; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Lucy Holland of Ellenboro, Kay and Karl Brunink of Shelby, Joyce and Jerry Lail of Cliffside and Becky Holland of Mooresboro; three brothers, D.A.
