Myrtle Gann
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Myrtle Abernathy Gann, 85, of 101 Hendricks St., died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Ester Propst Abernathy. She was a homemaker and a member of East Gold Street Wesleyan Church in Kings Mountain.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jake Gann.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Sammy and Becky Gann of Shelby; one brother, James Abernathy of Mount Holly; three sisters, Betty Taylor and Pauline Morris, both of Mount Holly, and Christine Baldwin of Charlotte; two grandchildren, Lea Anne Harris of Kings Mountain and Bobby Gann of Grover; and five great-grandchildren, Brandon Harris, Chris Gann, Benjamin Gann, Kale Hallman and Tanner Brown.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at East Gold Street Wesleyan Church with the Revs. Edward Gray and Joe Hefner officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home, and other times at the home of a granddaughter, Lea Anne Harris, 908 Woodside Drive, Kings Mountain.

Will Rogers
SHELBY - Mr. William Wells "Will" Rogers, 65, of 617 Norwood St., died Friday, Dec. 24, 1999, at his home.
Born Oct. 20, 1934, he was a son of the late Robert Hamer and Clara Elizabeth Ellenberg Rogers. He was owner of Piedmont Drug Store in Lawndale. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church and a member and past president of the Cleveland County Pharmaceutical Association. He served in the Air National Guard and was educated at Shelby High School, Lenoir-Rhyne College and the Medical College of South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Rogers.
He is survived by two brothers, Robert H. "Bobby" Rogers and Sam Rogers, and one sister, Ruth Rogers Edgar, all of Shelby; a nephew, Joseph Samuel Rogers, a great-nephew, Hayden Samuel Rogers, a great-niece, Hallie Nicole Rogers; and a sister-in-law, Marian Rogers, all of Shelby.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Carl Johnson and Dr. Joe Reeves officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Palmer Mortuary, and at other times at the home of his brother, Bobby Rogers, 901 Crescent Ave., Shelby.
Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 200 E. Marion St., Shelby, N.C. 28150.

Erma Drum
SHELBY - Mrs. Erma Johnston Drum, 98, of Cleveland Pines Nursing Center, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1999, at her home.
Born April 30, 1901, in Jacksonville, Ark., she was the daughter of the late William Rhett and Mary Boyd Johnston. She was Women's and Society Editor of The Shelby Star for 34 years. She also taught math at Shelby High School.
She was a graduate of Winthrop College, a member of Shelby Presbyterian Church, a charter member of the Contemporary Book Club, an active worker in the Democratic Party, a member of the Tuesday Afternoon Bridge Club, and a member of N.C. Press Women. She won first-place NCPW awards for news writing in 1941 and 1956, and earned second place for columns in 1956.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Renn Drum Sr., who died Aug. 26, 1935; and two sons, Renn Drum Jr., and Dale Johnston Drum.
She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Jane Cline of Winston-Salem; a niece, Eleanor Snellings of Richmond, Va.; a grandson, Matthew Drum; and two granddaughters, Meredith Drum and Jennifer Drum.
A graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Sunset Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at Shelby Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Luke Harkey officiating.
Memorials may be made to The Erma Drum Poetry Endowment Fund, Cleveland County Memorial Library, attention Annabelle Davis, 104 Howie Drive, Shelby, N.C. 28150.

Lox Sisk
SHELBY - Mr. Lox Charles Sisk, 71, of 1147 Poplar Springs Church Road, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.

John "Henry" Black
BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Mr. John H. "Henry" Black, 84, of 249 Elm Road, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Pikeville, Ky. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Blacksburg and a retired farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Sansing Black of Blacksburg; two sons and daughters-in-law, Billy R. and Grace Black of Fort Mill, S.C., and Jerry R. and Sylvia Black of Blacksburg; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. Vernon Craig officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the church fellowship hall.

Bessie Green
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Ms. Bessie Lovelace Green, 68, of White Oak Manor, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
She was a native of Cleveland County. She was a member of Midview Baptist Church in Kings Mountain and a former employee of Kings Mountain Knit.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Pat Passmore.
She is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law, Ronnie Green and Larry and JoAnn Green, all of Kings Mountain, Adam and Melinda Green of Grover and Travis and Jennifer Wells of Dallas; one daughter and two sons-in-law, Laura and Jimmy Mote and Mike Passmore, all of Kings Mountain; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Midview Baptist Church with the Revs. Bob Hope and Buddy Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Harris Funeral Home.

Peetronya Mitchell
JONESBORO, Ga. - Mrs. Peetronya Harris Mitchell, 78, formerly of Lawndale, Hickory and Boston, Mass., died Saturday, Dec. 18, 1999, in Jonesboro.
A native of Putnam County, Ga., she was born on Sept. 11, 1921, the daughter of the late Monroe and Flora Humphreys Harris.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Phillip Mitchell Sr., and two daughters, Frances Golden Friend and Flora Lomax Budd.
She is survived by four sons, Thomas Mitchell, Phillip Mitchell Jr., Malcolm Mitchell and Leonard Mitchell, all of Boston; three daughters, Gwendolyn Williams and Gloriadine Bradley, both of Boston, and Doretha King of Jonesboro; one son-in-law, Robert L. King Jr. of Jonesboro; one sister, Alice Harris Hill of Connelly Springs; four brothers-in-law, Willie Melton Hill of Connelly Springs, Doyle Quinn Mitchell of Jacksonville, Fla., Jessie Mitchell Sr. of Washington, D.C. and Allen Mitchell Sr. of Hickory; six sisters-in-law, Bernice Mitchell, Estelle Roland, Shirley Mae Gore and Rosie L. Mitchell, all of Hickory, Carrie Mitchell and Pearline Harbinson, both of Boston; 28 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Marshall Newsome Mortuary Inc. in Riverdale, Ga. Burial will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Garden in Forest Park, Ga.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.

Minnie Murray
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Minnie Early Murray, 79, of 406 Wilson St., died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Boyce C. and Willie Morris Early. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Kings Mountain. She was a former employee of Akers Motor Lines of Gastonia and Warner Swassey of Bessemer City.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jake Willard Early and John Cranford Early, and one sister, Mary Early Ware.
She is survived by her husband, Dewey M. Murray of Kings Mountain; one daughter, Sue Anne Mitchem of Kings Mountain; one sister, Eloise Early Baity of Kings Mountain; and two grandchildren, Brian Cloninger and his wife Leah of Gastonia and Rebecca Heath of Kings Mountain.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Central United Methodist with the Rev. Harrison Hinson officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.

Alma Jean Parris
ELLENBORO - Mrs. Alma Jean Radford Parris, 55, of 161 Golden Oaks Lane, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
A graveside service will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. George Whitmire officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home.

Margaret S. Patty
COWPENS, S.C. - Ms. Margaret Seagle Patty, 70, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, at her residence.
A native of Spartanburg County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Roy and Lena Mae Seagle. She was formerly married to Oscar Lonnie Patty.
She is survived by three daughters, Doris Mabry of Converse, S.C., and Sheila Mabry and Donna Hodge, both of Cowpens; five sons, Oscar Patty of Mooresboro, Barry Wayne Patty, Terry Patty and Perry B. Patty, all of Cowpens, and Jerry Patty of Pacolet, S.C.; one sister, Peggy Hensley of Boiling Springs, S.C.; one step brother; four step sisters; 19 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be today at 1 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Mike Wood officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home of a daughter, Donna Hodge, 490 Dan River Road, Cowpens.

Alma Spangler
SHELBY - Mrs. Alma Blanton Wilson Spangler of 507 Forest Hill Drive, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Joe E. Sr. and Mary Alice Ledford Blanton. She was retired from Campbell's Department Store, where she was a buyer and saleswoman. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Extension Sunday School Department.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy Wilson; her second husband, Dather Spangler; three brothers, Eura E. Blanton, Joe E. Blanton Jr. and Thurman Blanton; and four sisters, Essie B. Ledford, Blala Blanton, Vera B. Hamrick and Edna B. Grigg.
She is survived by two stepdaughters and sons-in-law, Martha Spangler and Ronald Hawkins of Cornelius and Freida Spangler and William Grayson of DeBary, Fla.; two brothers, Woodrow Blanton and Marshall Blanton, both of Shelby; two sisters, Lama B. Kilpatrick and Azalea B. Brydges, both of Shelby; four grandchildren, Lynn Hawkins King of Hilton Head, S.C.; Ronald Hawkins Jr. of Statesville, Timothy Grayson of DeBary and Noel Grayson of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and five great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Ross Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Gene Watterson and the Rev. Bob Dills officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 5:30 to 7 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.

Billy Brady Sr.
SHELBY - Mr. Billy Max Brady Sr., 69, of Deborah Circle, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Iredell County, he was the son of the late Escar Dale and Sallie Henritze Brady. He was retired from the U.S. Treasury, where he was an auditor for 25 years. He was a member of Boyce Memorial A.R.P. Church in Kings Mountain, where he was a former deacon and elder. He was past master of Cleveland Masonic Lodge No. 202 and was secretary for Shelby Lodge No. 744 for 22 years. He was a member of the Oasis Temple, York Rites and Piedmont Shrine Club. He was past Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Shelby No. 110. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines, serving in the Korean Conflict.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Ray Brady, Coyle Brady, Escar Brady and Trent Brady; and two sisters, Virginia Brady and Edna Clair.
He is survived by his wife, Cerelda Yarboro Brady of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Billy Max Jr. and Cindy Brady of Moss Lake; one daughter, Cindy Brady of Charlotte; two brothers, Frank H. Brady of Statesville and Charles L. Brady of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; one sister, Mrs. James T. (Celeste) Colson of Tampa, Fla.; two granddaughters, Kaitlyn Brady and McKenzie Brady; and many nieces, nephews and caregivers.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Boyce Memorial A.R.P. Church with the Rev. Douglas Petersen officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Members of the Shelby Masonic Lodge No. 744 and Cleveland No. 202 will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Neil Baird Sunday School Class of Boyce Memorial A.R.P. Church.
Memorials may be made to Boyce Memorial A.R.P. Church, the Alzheimers Association, the Shelby Life Enrichment Center, Shriners Hospital or the Oxford Orphanage.

Lowell Williams
SHELBY - Mr. Lowell Joe Williams, 71, of 1031 Old Boiling Springs Road, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Johnny Morris and Lillian Barnette Williams. He was retired from Borden Inc. and a member of Crestview Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Williams and Thurman Williams.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Sue Philbeck Williams of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Kevin Mitchell and Joan Williams of Davidson; one daughter, Bethony Johnna Williams of Charlotte; one brother, Jimmy Williams of Lawndale; one sister and brother-in-law, Louise and J.S. Wright of Lawndale; and six grandchildren, Kevin Williams, Shannon Williams, Stephanie Williams, Tanya Williams, Amber Kerley and Christopher Kerley.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Crestview Baptist Church with the Revs. Stanley Webb and Joe Edwards officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.

Lox "Tom" Sisk
SHELBY - Mr. Lox Charles "Tom" Sisk, 71, of 1147 Poplar Springs Church Road, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Robert Patton and Myrtle Sisk Sisk. He worked at Ora Mill Super Market and was retired from G.T. McSwain's where he was a meat cutter. He was a member of New Bethel Church of the Nazarene, where he was a former Sunday school superintendent, a member of the church choir and a former member of the Sisk Quartet. He was a U.S. Army veteran, who served in the Korean Conflict.
He is survived by his wife, Dot Haynes Sisk of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tommie and Pam Sisk of Cherryville and David and Jeanette Sisk of Shelby; his stepmother, Florence Gouge of Morganton; one grandson, Shawn; one granddaughter, Melissa; and one great-granddaughter, Destinee.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at New Bethel Church of the Nazarene with the Revs. Reed Jones and Bob Andress officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Bettye Lyda
CLAREMONT - Mrs. Bettye Lytle Lyda, 70, of 4086 Carpenter's Cove Road, died Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
The funeral will be Wednesday at noon at Harrelson Funeral Home in Caroleen with the Rev. Kerry Fralic officiating. Burial will follow at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday one hour before the service at the funeral home.
