Selma Hawkins
SHELBY - Mrs. Selma Williams Harmon Hawkins, 92, of White Oak Manor, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at White Oak Manor.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late William Martin and Effie Queen Williams. She was a homemaker. She was a member of David Baptist Church in Kings Mountain.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Alexander Hawkins and Jay Dee Harmon; one sister, Mildred Williams Harmon; and one brother, John Martin Williams.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, William Brunson and Lillian Harmon of Kings Mountain; one granddaughter, Kimberley Harmon Franks and her husband, Terry G.; two great-grandchildren, Melissa Franks and Will Franks; two sisters, Beatrice Allen of Shelby and Delores Patterson of Kings Mountain; and three sisters-in-law, Julia P. Williams of Kings Mountain, Gladys Harmon Sherer of Erwin, Tenn. and Alice Brackett Harmon of Spindale.
A graveside service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park with the Rev. Jody Griffin officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Harris Funeral Home and other times at 124 Williams Road, Kings Mountain.

Chancelor Canipe
SHELBY - Chancelor Dean Canipe, infant son of Tracy Dean Canipe and Linda Sharon Morehead of 157 Bristol Lane, died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandparents, Sandra Morehead and Gene "Dick" and Robbie Canipe, all of Shelby, and Steve and Debbie Morehead of Morganton; a great-grandmother, Lib Morehead of Morganton; a great-great-grandmother, Mae Lemmons of Shelby; one sister, Amber Canipe of Shelby; and one half-sister, Mindi Carroll of Boiling Springs.
A private graveside service was held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Zion Baptist Church Cemetery with Dr. Randy Bridges officiating.

UNION MILLS - Mrs. Barbara Maezell Forney, 64, of 921 Autumn Glow Road, died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at her residence.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Mount Pleasant CME Church with the Rev. Gloria Fleming officiating. The body will be placed in the church from noon until 1 p.m. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

SHELBY - Mrs. Elizabeth Hayes McCulloch, 63, of Sterling House, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at her residence.
A native of White Stone, S.C., she was the daughter of the late W.H. and Louise Murph Hayes. She was a former teacher in the Cleveland County school system and was a homemaker. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. She was a graduate of Limestone College.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Robert McCulloch II; and two brothers, Bud Hayes and Charles Hayes.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Beth McCulloch and Bryan Shull of Shelby; one son and daughter-in-law, John Robert McCulloch III and Heidi McCulloch, both of Boiling Springs; two grandsons, Wes Shull and Will Shull, both of Shelby; three sisters, Iris Brown of Greenwood, S.C., Mary Elliott of Forest City and Rebecca Ruth of Litchfield Beach, S.C.; and one sister-in-law, Susie Gardner Hayes of Central, S.C.
A graveside service will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery with Dr. Delores Queen officiating.

LAWNDALE - Mr. Edgar D. "Bill" Howard, 86, of 117 Melba Drive, died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he is the son of the late Charlie H. Howard and Martha Jane Odom Howard.
He was a self-employed farmer. He was a member of Double Shoals Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death his first wife, Ruth Leonhardt Howard; his brother, Murrell Howard; and his two sisters, Gladys Owens and Evie Walker.
He is survived by his second wife, Betty Leonhardt Howard of the home; a daughter, Barbara Davis of Fallston; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Kenneth Michael Pruett of Cherryville; a grandson, Shane Pruett of Morristown, N.J.; a grandson and his wife, Eugene and Darlene Davis of Shelby; and a granddaughter, Dawn Christopher of Cherryville.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Eddie Ingram officiating.
Burial will be Rose Hill Memorial Park.

MOORESBORO - Diamond Alayah Hamrick, 3-month-old daughter of Steve and Tracy Earl Hamrick, of 115 Shady Lane, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Andrew Earl Jr. and a step-grandfather, Charles Hamrick Sr.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her maternal grandparents, Rayford Betty Sloan of Shelby; paternal grandparents, Earnestine Hamrick of Shelby and Joe Toms of Shelby; one brother, Allen Hamrick of the home; one sister, Natalie Hamrick of Shelby; one nephew, Baron C. Barnes of Shelby; three uncles, Steven L. Earl of Gastonia, Charles Hamrick Jr. and Darryl Hamrick, both of Shelby; two aunts, Alfreda Moore of Shelby and Della Feaster of Georgia; and one special cousin, Douglas Davis of Charlotte.
The funeral will be 12:30 p.m. Friday at Ellis Chapel Baptist Church with the Revs. W.B. Ellis and Robert Moore officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns.

Nancy Ryce
SPINDALE - Mrs. Nancy Williams Ryce, 89, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, at her residence.
A native of Clinton, S.C., she was born Nov. 17, 1910, to the late Frank and Sally Jones Briggs. She was married in 1928 to the late George G. Williams Sr. They lived in Roselle, N.J. from 1943 to 1974, then moved to Spindale. Her husband died in June 1982. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Cranford, N.J., where she was a deaconess and a member of the Missionary and Flower Club auxiliaries. After moving to Spindale, she joined the New Zion Baptist Church and served as a deaconess, the Flower Club chairlady and senior adviser to the Junior Missionary Circle. She and her husband were charter members of Rutherford County Chapter No. 2849 of the American Association of Retired Persons. They were in the forefront in organizing programs for the elderly in Rutherford County, which included their efforts in the early 1970s to obtain funding for a senior center. In 1986, Nancy married Otis Ryce, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by a son, George G. Williams Jr. of Roselle, N.J.; a daughter, Lois E. Moore of Vauxhall, N.J.; a daughter-in-law, Gloria; 10 grandchildren and their spouses, James and Margaret, Beverly, Gregory and Rita, Karen, Pamela and Vernon, Tanya, George III, Richard and Chizuetta, Derrick, and Nancy; 27 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a stepsister, May Anderson of Lincolnton; a stepbrother, John F. Briggs of Forest City; six nieces, Nancy, Sally, Emma, Linda, Janet and Bertha; three nephews, Teddy, Leon and Monty; seven stepchildren, John Ryce, Omar Mahalaie-El, Ruby Freeman, Joyce Wallington, Nancy Houston, Shirley Ryce and Geneva Simpson; and many other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at New Zion Baptist Church in Spindale.

A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late James Eddie and Texie Trammell Mellon. She was a member of Broad River Baptist Church in Smyrna. She was a house wife.
She is survived by her husband, John Wilbur Brittain of the home; a son, Wilbur Michael Brittain of Hickory Grove; two daughters, Sarah Ann Tippins of Hickory Grove and Billie Renee McSwain of Kings Mountain; three brothers, James Flay Mellon of Kings Mountain, James Earl Mellon of Grover and David Richard Mellon of Shelby; six sisters, Vinetta Beatty of Mount Holly, Kathleen Buff of Rutherfordton, Betty Doris Causby and Linda Gail Pierson, both of Shelby, Joanne Stewart of Cherryville and Louise Wilkie of Grover; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
