Neil Whitaker
SHELBY - Mr. Neil Whitaker, 48, of 421 Melody Lane, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Whitaker.
He is survived by his mother, Marjorie Simmons Whitaker of Shelby; and a brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Lisa Whitaker of Richmond, Va.
A graveside service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Thomas Gossett officiating.
The family will receive friends after the service at the cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1207 W. Dixon Blvd., Shelby, N.C. 28152.
Clay-Barnette Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

John Gardner
SHELBY - Mr. John Stephen Gardner, 46, of 3016 G.B. Blanton Road, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Chickasan, Ala., he was disabled and a retired carpenter. He was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church and served in the U. S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Sansing Gardner; his mother and stepfather, Derlie and Earl Horton Jr. of Inman, S.C.; a daughter, Laura Gardner Timblin of Shelby; two brothers, Robin Horton of Pacolet, S.C., and Shawn Horton of Inman; a sister, Cheryl Bullard of Brunswick, Ga.; a grandson, Zachary McCluney, and a granddaughter, Alyssa Gardner of the home.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home Chapel, with the Revs. Harold Smisor and Bill Pheagin officiating. Burial will be at Pine Grove Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Pine Grove United Methodist Church, South Lafayette Street, Shelby, N.C.

Lennie Moss
SHELBY - Mrs. Lennie McCurry Moss, 89, of 401 N. Morgan St., formerly of Yarn Mill Road, Shelby, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at White Oak Manor in Shelby.
Born March 17, 1910, in Rutherford County, she was a daughter of the late William Samuel and Monty Owens McCurry. She was a homemaker and a member of Buffalo Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Broadus Moss; three brothers, Willard McCurry, Foy McCurry and Marvin McCurry; and two sisters, Estelle Cline and Ola Wood.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Arthur and Naomi Moss of Phoenix and Wayne and Margie Moss of Shelby; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Ruby and John Eurey, Ruth Philbeck and Mildred and Jerry Snyder, all of Shelby; a sister, Vernie Goins of Shelby; seven grandchildren, Larry Foster, Wendy Taylor, Bill Moss, Jeff Philbeck, Sherry Baxter, Donald Moss and Greg Moss; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Stamey Funeral Home in Fallston, with the Rev. Sam Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at the funeral home, and at other times at the home of Wayne and Margie Moss, 2246 New Prospect Church Road.

Pearl Addington
MORGANTON - Mrs. Pearl Scroggs Addington, 91, of 107 Magnolia Drive, formerly of Lakehurst Drive, Shelby, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at Grace Hospital in Morganton.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Stamey Funeral Home of Fallston.

Clyde Jenkins
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Clyde Arthur Jenkins, 81, of 714 Linwood Road, died Sunday, January 16, 2000, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. in Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Dale Swofford officiating. Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Harris Funeral Home one hour before the service.

Mildred Crawford
TITUSVILLE, Fla. - Mrs. Mildred W. Crawford, 75, of Bahama Street, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at Parrish Medical Center in Titusville, Fla.
Mrs. Crawford was born May 27, 1924, in Shelby, where she lived until 1965. Before moving to Florida, she was employed by Cleveland Cloth Mill in Shelby until 1952. After moving to Florida, she was employed by Brevard County School Board from 1965 to 1975 at Coquina Elementary School in Titusville and was a member of First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband of 511/2 years, Henry F. Crawford; two daughters, Judy C. Thomas of Roswell, Ga., and Sandy L. Weishaar of Yorktown, Va.; one son, Wayne C. Wright of Greenville, S.C.; two stepchildren, Carla C. Greene of Shelby and Thomas E. Crawford of Rock Hill, S.C.; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ida Mae Wright of Kings Mountain.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park with the Rev. Jim Brackett officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Lutz-Austell Funeral Home.

Mildred Blanton
RUTHERFORDTON - Mrs. Mildred Vassey Blanton, 86, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Mountain View Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ronald Reepe and Dr. J.M. Ezell officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service.
Harrelson Funeral Home of Caroleen is in charge of arrangements.

William Marler
ELLENBORO - Mr. William Everette Marler, 82, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home in Caroleen. Burial will be in Cooper Springs Congregational Holiness Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at the funeral home.

Isaac Helton Jr.
FOREST CITY - Mr. Isaac Helton Jr., 46, of 164 McGinnis Road, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Wednesday at Hylton Free Will Baptist Church in Shelby Gap, Ky. Burial will be in the Helton Family Cemetery in Shelby Gap.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home in Caroleen.

Ed Mack Watson
FOREST CITY - Mr. Ed Mack Watson died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Forest City. Burial will be in Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 9 at Padgett & King Mortuary.

Martha Jones
SHELBY - Miss Martha Edith Jones, 76, of 309 Wilson St., died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Enloe Mortuary.

Amie Mauney
SHELBY - Mrs. Amie Elmore Mauney, 84, of 1640 Eaves Road, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000, at Century Care Nursing Home in Shelby.
Born April 12, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Joe Wesley Elmore and Maggie Pompey Elmore and the wife of the late Oliver S. Mauney. She was a member of Philadelphia United Methodist Church.
She was the mother of nine children, four of whom preceded her in death, John Francis Mauney, Sylvester Mauney, Joe Lee Mauney and Calvin Mauney.
She is survived by five children, Lendon Mauney of Claremont, Ray Mauney of the home, Hannah Mauney Coston of Plainfield, N.J., Cora Mauney of the home and Betty Mauney Gidney of Boiling Springs; two brothers, Carmie Pompey of Baltimore and George Elmore of Glen Alpine; one sister, Lency Hoyle of Plainfield; two sons-in-law, Samuel Coston of Plainfield and Alvin Gidney of Boiling Springs; three daughters-in-law, Lena Mauney of Claremont, Mazaline Mauney of Catawba and Ann Mauney of Shelby; 15 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Philadelphia United Methodist Church, Lawndale, with the Rev. Roger Hunter officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes before the service.
Dockery's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Hullon Griggs Sr.
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Hullon Griggs Sr., 74, of 338 Bridges Circle, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Washington Missionary Baptist Church in Waco, with the Rev. Denorris Byers officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church one hour before the service. At other times, the family will be at the home of the daughter, Frances Haynes, 1002 Hemlock Drive, Shelby.
Genesis Funeral Service & Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Hullon Griggs
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Hullon Griggs Sr., 75, of 338 Bridges Circle, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, he retired from Carolina Freight in 1989. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a Mason and a Shriner and a member of Washington Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Senie Gardner Griggs; three sons, Hullon Griggs Jr. of Washington, D.C., Eddie G. Griggs and Gary C. Griggs, both of Kings Mountain; one daughter, Frances G. Haynes of Shelby; four grandchildren, Tenia Griggs Wilkins, Dionne Griggs McKay, Daurice Griggs Carlton and Andson K. Griggs; four great-grandchildren; two brothers, Tommy Griggs and William Griggs; and two sisters, Maynel Griggs and Mattelyn Griggs.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Washington Missionary Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends today one hour before the service at the church and other times at the home of a daughter, Frances Haynes, 1002 Hemlock Drive, Shelby.

Pearl Addington

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hubert B. Addington, two brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by two sons, Bill Addington of Tallahassee, Fla,. and Howard Addington of Enterprise, Ala.; one daughter, Helen Kennedy of Orlando, Fla.; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Stamey Funeral Home with the Rev. Cecil Buff officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at the funeral home.

Addie Waters
FOREST CITY - Mrs. Addie Smith Waters, 84, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at Oak Grove Health Care Center in Rutherfordton.
The funeral will be today at 4 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home with the Revs. Charlie Blackwell and Steve Durham officiating. Burial will follow at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends today one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Thelma Rockett
MORGANTON - Mrs. Thelma Cannon Rockett, 83, died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2000, at Valdese Hospital.
A native of Burke County, she was born Nov. 5, 1916, to the late George and Mable Cannon. She was a homemaker and a seamstress. She was a charter member of High Peak Baptist Church and a member of First Baptist Church in her later years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Calvin Rockett, and one son, Billy Ray Rockett.
She is survived by one son, Clyde Lenard Rockett of Valdese; two daughters, Anna Kanipe of Hickory and Mary Alice Rockett Ledbetter of Shelby; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Icard with the Rev. Bobby Earls officiating. Burial will follow at High Peak Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family received friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kirksey Chapel of Family Funeral Care in Valdese.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church Icard, 2178 U.S. 70, Connelly Springs, N.C. 28612.

Annie Mae Moore
HENRIETTA - Mrs. Annie Mae Champion Moore, 88, of 357 Old Mooresboro Road, died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, at Woodlands Nursing Center.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Goode's Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. L.W. Toney officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home.
