Irene Davis
MORGANTON - Mrs. Irene Childers Davis, 88, of Grace Heights, 109 Foothills Drive, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at Grace Hospital.
A native of Lincoln County, she was born on Dec. 5, 1911, the daughter of the late David Vance and Bessie Lee Dedmon Childers. She was a retired self-employed beautician and a member of Burke's Chapel United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Ezil Davis; two sisters, Lorene Davis and Zelda Kizer; and one brother, Manard Childers.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Johnny Lowman of Casar; two sisters, Mary Sue Jordan of Drexel and Hattie Clanton of Crouse; one brother, Milton Childers of Conover; and two granddaughters, Angie Lowman and Gretchen Lowman, both of Casar.
The funeral will be today at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Stamey Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Mace and Obie Lail officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends today from 1 to 2 at the funeral home.

Richard Hullender
JULIAN - Mr. Richard Ira Hullender, 86, of 6039 Smithwood Road, formerly of Shelby, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at Liberty Commons of Alamance County.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Benjamin Ives and Junie Williams Hullender. He was retired from the textile industry and was a member of Eastside Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank J. Hullender and Emmil Hullender, and one sister, Mary Lee Reynolds.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Janie H. and Glenn M. Griffin of Julian; one grandson, Allen Griffin of Key West, Fla.; one granddaughter, Julia Griffin Deltano and her husband, Keith, of Julian; and one great-granddaughter, Victoria Griffin.
The funeral will be today at 1 p.m. in the fellowship hall at Eastside Baptist Church with Dr. Harold Fite officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at Patterson Springs Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends today at Patterson Springs Baptist Church after the graveside service.

CASAR - Mrs. Louanna Chapman Davis, 90, of 424 Corinth Church Road, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Burke County, she was born May 30, 1909, the daughter of the late John and Cordelia Smith Chapman. She was a homemaker and a member of Corinth Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Enoch Bedford Davis.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Margie and Grady Tallent of Fallston and Florence and Henry Harbison of Cherryville; one sister, Bertha Davis of Casar; one granddaughter, Betty Anne Tallent of Fallston; and three grandsons, Jason Harbinson and his wife, Heather, of Westminster, S.C., Henry Harbinson of Washington, D.C., and John Harbinson of Boiling Springs.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church with the Revs. Norris Willis, Cecil Buff and Lero Hudson officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

WOODRUFF, S.C. - Mrs. Lillie Inez Davis, 92, of 1114 E. Georgia Road, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at Woodruff Health Care.
A native of Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late William E. and Jessie Becknell Davis. She was a member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church in Grover. She retired from Minette Mills in Grover, where she was a bookkeeper.
She is survived by one daughter, Edwina D. Neal of Gaffney, S.C.; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
The family will receive friends at the home of her daughter at 114 Calton Drive, Gaffney.

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Patsy Mauney Braswell, 68, of 5101 S. Tryon Street, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at Presbyterian Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Laxton Peeler and Ella Click Mauney.
She was retired from Central Piedmont Community College after 30 years of service as a schedule coordinator. She was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church of Charlotte, the Eastern Star Newell Chapter #344 and Areme Shrine #3 White of Jerusalem.
She is survived by her husband, Robert K. Braswell of Charlotte; her stepmother, Emaleen M. Mauney of Lawndale; a half-sister, Jeannie M. Brooks of Fallston; a stepbrother, Jerry Morrison of Havelock; two stepsisters, Carol Self of Casar and Betty Couch of Bostic; four nephews, Stephen Self, Spencer Self, Shane Parker and Jay Morrison; and two nieces, Suzanne McMurry and Hannah Brooks.
A graveside service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Kistler's United Methodist Church cemetery.

SHELBY - Mr. Jesse Irvin Pearson, 71, of 2247 Flint Hill Church Road, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at Hospice at Wendover.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Jarvis and Verdie Edna Blanton Pearson. He was the owner of Pearson's Yarn & Rug Co. He was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church, where he served as a former Sunday school teacher and a deacon.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Bright.
He is survived by his wife, Nellie Lail Pearson of Shelby; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Gary C. and Bonnie Pearson, Ricky Pearson and Tracy Pearson and his fiancée, Renee Blackburn, all of Shelby; four brothers and sisters-in-law, David Obie and Harriett Pearson of Belmont, Bill and Elaine Pearson, R. Gerald and Joyce Pearson, and Danny and Jackie Pearson, all of Shelby; two sisters, Thelma Barnette of Charlotte and Betty Jean Cochran of Shelby; six grandchildren, Jori Medley and her husband, Tim, of Boiling Springs, Curtis Jay Pearson and Jennifer Pearson, both of Shelby, Priscilla Pearson of Cliffside, Jessica Pearson and Nathaniel Pearson, both of Lincolnton; three step-grandchildren, Candace Locke, Danielle Justice and Chelsey Justice, all of Shelby; three great-grandchildren, Ronald Byars, Lily Marie Byars and Jesse Ann Byars, all of Cliffside; and a special friend, Shelby Small of Shelby.

SHELBY - Mrs. Ann Garver Hyder, 78, of 1007-4 Borders Road, died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Buncombe County and was a retired dietitian with South Carolina Public Schools.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Fowler.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas C. Hyder; a son, Bobby Hyder of Lexington, S.C.; three nieces, Ann Marlow and her husband Sam, and Anita Deyton and her husband James, all of Shelby, and Sherry Gravinsky of Colorado; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bobby Herndon officiating. Burial will be today at 3 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbia, S.C.
