Nancy Cline
MORGANTON - Miss Nancy Carol Cline, 50, of Britthaven of Morganton, formerly of Shelby, died Saturday, July 31, 1999, at Britthaven of Morganton.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of Elsie Wilson Cline of Shelby and the late Z.V. Cline Jr. She was a member of Putnam Memorial Baptist Church and the T.E.L. Sunday school class.
Surviving in addition to her mother are a brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Glenda Cline of Shelby; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Jack Rich of Shelby; and four nieces.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Putnam Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bryan Glisson officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in the Elizabeth Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 tonight at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of Elsie W. Cline, 1129 County Home Road in Shelby.
Memorials may be made to Putnam Memorial Baptist Church, 1146 Country Home Road, Shelby, N.C. 28152.

Duke Ramsey
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Duke Ramsey, 70, of 5 B Battleforest Apartments, died Saturday, July 31, 1999, at his home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a son of the late William Anthony and Onice Falls Ramsey. He was a member of Eastside Baptist Church in Kings Mountain, where he had perfect Sunday school attendance for the past 30 years. He also was active in the programs at the Kings Mountain Senior Center. He was a brickmason and served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill and Dean Ramsey.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Steven Charles and Linda Ramsey of Kings Mountain; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy Ann and John Wayne Melton of Cross, S.C., and Donna and Rick Stowe of Kings Mountain; a sister-in-law, Vangie Jackson Ramsey of Kings Mountain; a sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Boyce Hester of Piedmont, S.C.; three grandchildren, Tiffany Ramsey, Paula Justice and Kenny Melton, all of Kings Mountain; and two great-grandchildren, James Austin Justice and Joshua Eugene Justice.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Eastside Baptist Church, with the Revs. David Riley and Bob Hope officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain Rest Cemetery, Veterans Garden.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Harris Funeral Home.

Steve Simpson
ALEXIS - Mr. Steve Devon Simpson, 47, died Friday, July 30, 1999, in Charlotte.
A native of Union County, he was a son of the Rev. B. Clyde Simpson and the late Vergie Price Simpson. He was a 1970 graduate of West Mecklenburg High School and served in the Army in the military police. He was a member of Alexis Baptist Church and was operations manager for Watkins Motor Line in Charlotte for 25 years.
Surviving in addition to his father are his wife, Annette Simpson; two stepsons, Jeff Hanna and Tim Richards; a daughter-in-law, Angie Hanna; four grandchildren, Tamara, Julie, Jennifer and Devon; and eight brothers and sisters, Larry C. Simpson of Indian Trail, Linda S. Griffin of Matthews, Johnny W. Simpson of Dunn, Lucy S. Benton of Gastonia, Alice S. Britt of Cramerton, and Reba S. Geiger, Merle S. Coffey and Carey D. Simpson, all of Charlotte.
The funeral will be held at 1 p.m.Tuesday at Alexis Baptist Church, with Dr. Malcolm Ivey and the Rev. Robert Gittens officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Price Cemetery on Friendly Baptist Church Road in Indian Trail.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Carothers Funeral Home in Gastonia.

RUTHERFORDTON - Mr. James E. Harrison, 68, of P.O. Box 783, died Saturday, July 31, 1999, at Woodland Skilled Nursing Center.

FOREST CITY - Rev. Margaret Moriah Humphries, 89, of 309 3rd St., died Friday, July 30, 1999, at the Blue Ridge Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Asheville.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at New Bethel A.M.E. Zion Church in Forest City. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Forest City.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8 at New Bethel A.M. E. Zion Church.
Thompson Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Judge "Cliff" Dawson
SHELBY - Mr. Judge Junior "Cliff" Dawson, 76, of 240 W. Grover St., Apartment 8, died Friday, July 30, 1999, at his home.
A native of Shreveport, La., he was the son of the late John and Creola Dawson. He was a former member of Eskridge Grove Baptist Church. He was retired from Temp Vent in Shelby.
He was preceded in death by one son, Johnnie Dawson.
He is survived by his wife, Annie Dawson Rice of Shelby; six sons, Steven Degree and Walter Dawson, both of Shelby, Howard Nickels of Kings Mountain, Nathaniel Dawson and Judge Junior Dawson, both of Patterson, N.J., and Everett Junior Dawson of Newark; nine daughters, Beatrice Degree Barber of Shelby, Janice Degree Dickens of San Diego, Calif., Dianne King of Charlotte, Bernice Dawson, Betty Dawson, Ernestine Dawson, Judy Dawson and Julia Dawson, all of Patterson, N.J., and Bobby Campbell of Savannah, Ga.; one brother, Rev. James Dawson of Patterson, N.J.; one step-daughter, Cynthia Rice; one step-son, Charles Degree; and Gwen Freeman, who was raised as a daughter.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Lawrence Roseboro officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends Wednesday 30 minutes before the service at the church and other times at the home of Beatrice Barber, 1639 Friendship Road, Shelby.

Barbara Brown
CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Barbara A. Brown, 57, of 903 E. Church St., died Monday, August 2, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Second Baptist Church with the Revs. Keith Love and Kelley Jones officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at Cherryville Funeral Home.

William Thompson IV
BAYVILLE, N.J. - Mr. William H. Thompson IV, 41, died July 11, 1999, at Community Medical Center of Toms River.
He was born in Harrisburg, Pa. He is survived by his parents, William and Patricia Thompson of Kings Mountain. He was a self-employed builder in Ocean County, N.J. He attended school in Freehold Township and Montclaire State College , both in N.J. He lived in Farmingdale before moving to Bayville five years ago.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one daughter; two sisters; and two nieces and nephews.
A service was held at Colonial Funeral Home in Brick, N.J.
The family received friends at the home of Peter and Donna Thompson in July.

Lee Davis
FOREST CITY - Mr. Lee Davis, 74, of 110 Cedar Lane, died Sunday, August 1, 1999, at his residence.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2:00 at New Bethel Independent Church in Forest City with the Rev. Wallace Gregory officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Arch Quinn
CHERRYVILLE - Mr. Arch Quinn, 87, of 111 Terrace Drive, died Monday, August 2, 1999, at Carolina Care in Cherryville.
A graveside service will be Thursday at 11 .m. at City Memorial Cemetery with the Rev. Wayne Key. Masonic Rites will be performed at the grave site.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Cherryville Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

Rosa Bailey
GAFFNEY, S.C. - Mrs. Rosa Dalphine Bailey, 67, of 114 Sarratt Creek Road, died Tuesday, August 3, 1999, at Spartanburg Hospital for Restorative Care.

David Beattie
SHELBY -Mr. David Matthew Beattie, 52, of 433 Leander St., died Tuesday, August 3, 1999, at 822 Hill St.
Born in St. Louis, he is survived by his mother, Verta Lee Beattie of Shelby. He worked for US Airways International Freight as a computer operator. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church. He was an Army veteran and a member of the Big Red 101.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by one son, Robert E. Lee Beattie of the home.
A graveside service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Sunset Cemetery with the Rev. Ed Sessom officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.

Gladys Hamrick
GASTONIA - Mrs. Gladys F. Hamrick, 90, of Courtland Terrace, formerly of the Beaver Dam Community, died Tuesday, August 3, 1999, at her residence.

Johnny Lawrence Sr.
DALE CITY, Va. - Mr. Johnny Frank Lawrence Sr., 45, of 3614 Forestdale Ave., died Saturday, July 31, 1999, at home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Cotie Lawrence Sr. and Lola Thompson Lawrence of Lawndale. He was employed by the City of Alexandria.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by three daughters, Teresa Padgett of Charlotte, Chrissy Lawrence of Fredricksburg, Va., and Tonya Brown of Alexandria, Va.; one son, Johnny Frank Lawrence of Washington, D.C.; four sisters, Joanne Lawrence Sharpe of Shelby, Lorene Lawrence of Hickory, Shirley Lawrence and Thomasine Lawrence, both of Lawndale; six brothers and four sisters-in-law, Eugene and Minnie Lawrence of Shelby, Cotie and Shirley Lawrence of Hickory, J. Reid Lawrence of Winston-Salem, Tommy and Contrenia Lawrence, Everette and Mary Ann Lawrence and Larry Lawrence, all of Lawndale; eight grandchildren; one grandmother, Pearl Coates Lawrence of Lawndale; and a friend, Gwendolyn Scott of Dale City.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Pine Grove Primitive Baptist Church in Lawndale with the Rev. Roger Fuller officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday at the church 30 minutes before the service.

Gladys Hamrick
GASTONIA - Mrs. Gladys Frazier Hamrick, 90, of Courtland Terrace, formerly of the Beaver Dam Community in Shelby, died Tuesday, August 3, 1999, at Courtland Terrace.
A native of Mecklenburg County, she was born the daughter of the late William T. and Cora Severs Frazier. She was a floral designer in the shop she and her husband owned. She was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, S.C. Hamrick.
She is survived by one son, Carleton Hamrick Jr. of Mint Hill; two daughters, Elaine Aaron of Gastonia and Carole Johnson of Charlotte; five grandchildren and two spouses, Carleton III and Casey Hamrick of Mint Hill, Mark and Emily Aaron of Gastonia, Kevin Johnson, Keith Johnson and Lisa Calhoun, all of Charlotte; and three great-grandchildren, Tiffanie Calhoun, Joshua Calhoun and Jeremy Calhoun, all of Charlotte.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel with Dr. Paul Sorrells and the Rev. Kenneth Pruitt officiating. Burial will follow at Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Marquis Davis
SHELBY - Marquis Javes Davis, infant son of Katrina Michelle Moore and Gregory Eugene Davis, died Monday, August 2, 1999, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by one sister, Kenya Adams; two brothers, Anthony Adams Jr. and Marquez Davis; maternal grandparents, Patricia G. Moore and Z.J. Surratt; paternal grandparents, Margaret Phillips and Billy and Janie Banks; four uncles Eric A. Moore, David L. Smith Jr., Rafus Camp Jr. and Renaldo Camp; and one aunt, Keesha Leach, all of Shelby.
A graveside service will be Friday at 6 p.m. at Webb Memorial Lawns with the Rev. Warren Cherry officiating.
The family will receive friends at 109 Palmer Street in Shelby.

BOSTIC - Ms. Kelley Denise Danner, 32, died Wednesday, August 4, 1999, at Valdese General.
A memorial service will be Friday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Forest City.
