Kathryn Blanton
SHELBY - Mrs. Kathyrn Leigh Blanton, 80, of 5402 Spring Lane, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late David William and Clara Lemmons Leigh. She was a homemaker and a member of Landmark Baptist Church, where she was active in the church's adult choir.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Hal Franklin Leigh and Walter William Leigh, and a sister, Annie Mae Leigh.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Virgil Green Blanton; two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Diane Blanton and Robert and Deborah Blanton, all of Shelby; two sisters, Edna McIntyre of Cherryville and Pauline Henson of Rock Hill, S.C.; a sister-in-law, Martha Leigh of Shelby; three grandchildren and their spouses, Dwayne and his wife Julie Blanton of Charlotte, Seann and his wife Amy Blanton of Iron Station and Julie and her husband John Wilson of Shelby; a step-great-grandchild Tyler Haeck; two great-grandchildren, John Wilson, Jr. and Grant Blanton; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Landmark Baptist Church with the Revs. Allen Davis and Jeff Hayes officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will be at Patterson Springs Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.

Stella McCullough
SHELBY - Mrs. Stella Strange McCullough, 88, of 2417 S. Lafayette St., died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Spartan-burg County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Martin Luther and Rosie Lee Strange. She was retired from Sackville Mill. She was a member of Ledford's Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Earl Hampton Williams, and her second husband, Niles Nesbitt McCullough.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and James Willis of Shelby; four granddaughters, Stella Lynn Hayes and her husband, Scott, and Deborah Faye Martin, all of Shelby, Robin Waynne Isaacs of Blacksburg, S.C., and Vicki Renee Toney and her husband, Duane, of Fallston; 12 great-grandchildren, Amber Lynn Henson, Victoria Hayes, Jeremy Hayes, Trinity Clayton Martin, Krisia Leigh Hopper, Wade Owens Jr., Tabitha Lavon Owens, Joseph Earl Owens, Joshua William Bivins, Caleb Scott Clark, Amanda Toney and Brandon Toney.
A graveside service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Sunset Cemetery with the Revs. Doug James and Rufus Davis officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

TRENTON - Mrs. Esther Bernice Barber, 73, of Barber Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at her residence.
The funeral will be Saturday at noon at Northwest "A" Tabernacle in Trenton with the Rev. Roosevelt Taylor Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Haiti Cemetery.

FALLSTON - Mr. Arthur Wayne Emory, 36, of 116 Stamey Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born on July 14, 1963, the son of Dock Ernest Emory and Elizabeth Warren, both of Shelby. He was employed with Reynolds Machine Shop in Bessemer City, where he was a machinist.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Ledbetter Emory of Fallston; his stepfather, Johnny Warren of Shelby; one son, David Emory of Waco; one stepson, Bradley Willis of Waco; one stepdaughter, Amanda Hudson of Fallston; three brothers, Jack Emory of Mooresboro, Larry Emory of Waco and Johnny Emory of Grover; and four sisters, Patsy Emory and Wanda Barrett of Shelby, Mary Ann McCurry of Newton and Mary Ohla of Earl; and one brother-in-law, Jeff Scoggins of Shelby.
The funeral will be today at 1 p.m. at the chapel at Stamey Funeral Home with Fred Towery and the Rev. Charles Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Charity Baptist Church Cemetery.

SHELBY - Mr. Donald E. Wray Sr., 63, of 2910 Dravo Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cherokee County, S.C., he was the son of the late Claude Marion and Barbara Martin Wray. He was employed with Sun Drop Choice USA as a warehouse lead person. He was a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Marion Wray.
He is survived by his girlfriend, Leanne Clary of Shelby; one daughter and her husband, Dede and Carl Abernathy of Morganton; one son, Donald E. Wray Jr. of Polkville; Stephanie Hawkins of Shelby; one granddaughter, Jessica Abernathy of Morganton; one grandson, Cotye Abernathy of Morganton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathleen L. and Jim Hughey of Shelby and Brenda and Charles Lovelace of Belmont; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Arnold and Louise Wray, Gene and Priscilla Wray and Frank and Judy Wray, all of Shelby; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Mount Sinai Baptist Church with the Revs. Billy Boone and Broadus Heatherly officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

LAWNDALE - Mrs. Ruth Williamson Clay, 86, of 3313 Charlie Elliott Road, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at Kings Mountain Hospital.

Otis Hankins
LINCOLNTON - Mr. Otis Hammond Hankins, 90, of 1221 Janice Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at Lincoln Medical Center.
A native of Calhoun, Ga., he was born on July 25, 1909, the son of the late James and Mary Parker Hankins. He married Thelma Cagle of Sugar Valley, Ga., on Sept. 12, 1926. He was retired from Burlington Mills in Lincolnton, where he was plant manager. He was a member of the Lincolnton Lions Club since 1948 in Mount Holly and Lincolnton, also serving as president in 1974 and 1975. He was Lion of the Year for 1971-72 and 1977-78 and received the Jack Stickley award. He was active in the Lions until 1999. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Fellowship Sunday school class.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one stepson, Clinton Sparks; one brother, James; and two sisters, Eva and Jewel.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Doris Kiger and her husband, Bob, of Shelby and Eloise Talbert and her husband, Bill, of Houston, Texas; one brother, Julius Hankins of Florida; two granddaughters, Kristi Kiger and Deb Kovalycsik of Morganton; one grandson, Jim Wyatt and his wife, Sherry, of Belmont; two step granddaughters, Brenda Bristol of Spartanburg, S.C., and Sparkle Widnes and her husband, Tim, of Fort Myers, Fla.; one daughter-in-law, Sara Sparks of Merritt Island, Fla.; three great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and special friends and caregivers, Reatha and her husband, Lee Cash, and Rachel Lynn.
A graveside service will be today at 3 p.m. at Hillcrest Gardens with Dr. J. Dixon Free officiating.

SHELBY - Mr. James Buck Pearson, 81, of 213 Broad St., died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at his residence.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born on June 14, 1918, the son of the late Henry Ward and Melinda McSwain Pearson. He was retired from Southern Cotton Oil Mill. He was a member of Charity Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and an usher.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Mae Davis Pearson; two sisters, Terry Blanton and Tula Mae Pearson; one son, James Junior Pearson; one son-in-law, Charles Duncan; one daughter, Mary Ann Pearson; and two brothers-in-law, Cliff Davis and Jonnie Waldell.
He is survived by three sons and four daughters-in-law, Gene and Tena Pearson, Jerry and Ruby Pearson and Bonnie Pearson, all of Shelby, and Dan and Brenda Pearson of Grover; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Virginia Sue Duncan of Rock Hill, S.C., Elizabeth Ann and Lewis Peterson of Shelby and Jill and Tommy Brackett of Cherryville; two sisters, Aileen Davis of Rock Hill and Beatrice Waldell of Shelby; 35 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
