RUTHERFORDTON - Ms. Virgie Eva Crain Lowery, 95, of Tanner Street, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Crowe's Funeral Chapel, with Father Blake Rambo officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Crowe's Mortuary, and other times at the home of Vickie Fowler at 1706 Cedar St., Spindale.

Richard Lyles
MAIDEN - Mr. Richard Lyles, 32, of 2170 Maiden-Salem Road, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at his home.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Indian Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elder John Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.
Ebony and White's Funeral Service is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Ralph Rollins
FOREST CITY - Mr. Ralph Houser Rollins, 81, of 146 Kilmer Drive, died Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at the Henderson Care Center in Forest City.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Sunshine United Methodist Church with the Revs. Charlie Blackwell and Roy Byers officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church fellowship hall.
The Padgett and King Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements.

Dovie Messer
CLOVER, S.C. - Mrs. Dovie Sprouse Messer, 83, of White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
A native of Wilkensville, S.C., she was born Aug. 25, 1916, the daughter of the late James Daniel and Ella Mae Brown Sprouse. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert B. Messer.
She is survived by two daughters, Betty Munsey of Clover and Joan McCluney of Gastonia; four sons, Kenneth Messer and Harvey Messer of Clover, Daniel Messer of Beaufort, S.C., and Roy Messer of Shelby; two sisters, Gladys Blackwell of Blacksburg, S.C., and Lois Martin of Kings Mountain; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, with the Rev. Elwood Seamster officiating. Burial will be in Woodside Cemetery.
The family received friends Saturday at M.L. Ford & Sons Funeral Home in Clover. They will receive friends other times at the home of her son, Harvey Messer, 1575 Jim McCarter Road, Clover.

Francis Gormley
CHERRYVILLE - Mr. Francis Joseph Gormley, 69, of 137 Kester Drive, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at the V.A. Medical Center in Asheville.
A native of the Bronx, N.Y., he was the son of the late Francis and Evelyn Kinsley Gormley. He retired from the U.S. Marine Corps as a lance corporal and served during the Korean Conflict, participating in the Inchon Landing. He was wounded at the Chosen Reservoir and received a Purple Heart. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
He is survived by a brother, James Gormley of Calverton, N.Y.; a sister and a brother-in-law, Evelyn G. and William F. Hill of Cherryville; two nieces, Kathleen Mary Hjellming and Jo Ann Dillebeek; and two nephews, Benjamin Hill and William Luke Hill.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Eric Houseknecht officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home. Rosary will be said at 7 o'clock.

FOREST CITY - Mrs. Nora Campbell Adair, 80, of 901 Low Bridge Road, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, with the Rev. Jerry Ruppe officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harrelson Funeral Home in Caroleen.

Nancy Lee Thrift
FOREST CITY - Miss Nancy Lee Thrift, 54, of 485 Rollins Road, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000, at her home.
A native of Cherokee County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late W.L. "Bill" and Ruby Ruppe Thrift. She was an employee of Champion Products and a member of Chase Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Thrift, and a sister, Orelia Scruggs.
She is survived by one sister, Ozelle Burgess Mode of Forest City; four nieces, Brenda Head, Debbie Waters, Paula Harris and Joy Putnam; and one nephew, Billy Tessenair.
A graveside service will be today at 2:30 at Cherokee Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Rosa Harris officiating.
The family will receive friends today from 1 to 2 p.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home in Cliffside and at other times at the home of her sister at 232 Chase Drive in Forest City.

Edith Cadenhead
HUNTERSVILLE - Miss Edith Christine Cadenhead, 80, of The Oaks in Huntersville, died Friday, Feb. 11, 2000.
A native of Fairfax, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Luther Warren and Zera Florine Newman Cadenhead. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by five brothers, Jack Cadenhead of Lincolnton, Max Cadenhead of Pompano Beach, Fla., Jimmy Cadenhead of Little Rock, Ark., Wray Cadenhead of Earl and Robert Cadenhead of Wilmington; one sister, Betty Jean Wells of Charlotte; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Tim Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery in Lincolnton.
The family will receive friends Monday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Marjorie Dixon
HENRIETTA - Mrs. Marjorie Spears Dixon, 74, of 377 Spears Drive, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Essie Dobbins Spears. She was retired from Fieldcrest Mills and was a member of Goode's Creek Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alton Junior Dixon, and one son, Jack Dixon.
She is survived by seven sons, Gene Dixon of the home, Steve Dixon and Pat Dixon, both of Caroleen, Wayne Dixon and George Dixon, both of Cliffside, Robert Dixon of Forest City and Calvin Dixon of Mooresboro; two daughters, Dianne Willis of Ellenboro and Brenda Lister of Forest City; one brother, Luther Spears of Henrietta; one sister, Daisy Earls of Henrietta; 23 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home with the Revs. Steve Hardin and Russell Sellers officiating. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family received friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

FOREST CITY - Mrs. Judith Diane England Beam, 52, of 169 Emerald Hill, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, in Spindale.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Smith Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Jeff Springer, Carroll Moffit and Malone Thomason officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Forest City.

Loyd Chapman
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Loyd R. Chapman, 63, of 116 Joann Drive, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at his residence.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Noah E. and Beulah Dixon Chapman. He was a carpenter and a member of David Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Johnny Chapman; and two sisters, Pauline Moss and Ruby Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Joann Hullender Chapman of Kings Mountain; two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Pam Chapman and Richard and LeAnn Chapman, all of Kings Mountain; three brothers, R.C. Chapman, Joe Chapman and Jerry Chapman, all of Kings Mountain; six sisters, Lois Parker of Grover, Hazel Graham, Mae Grigg, Madge Hawkins and Rene Bolin, all of Kings Mountain and Helen Lail of Shelby; and six grandchildren, DeAnn Chapman, Jered Chapman, Tyler Chapman, Storme' Chapman, Hannah Chapman and Baby Chapman.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at David Baptist Church with the Revs. Jody Griffin and Jack Green officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home.

RUTHERFORDTON - Mr. Vachel L. Cumberlander, 60, of Woodlands Nursing Home at 237 Tryon Road, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at his residence.
The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Turner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday night from 7 to 8 in the chapel at Ebony & White's Funeral Services; and other times at the home of a brother, Josephus Wilson, 159 Williams Road, Bessemer City.

CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Ophelia Guffey Mauney of 117 Guffey Road, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at Lincoln County Nursing Center in Lincolnton.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Cone Memorial Chapel at Carpenter's Funeral Home with Dr. Billy Lowe officiating. Burial will follow at City Memorial Cemetery.

Bessie McEntire
BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Mrs. Bessie Warren McEntire, 79, of 1085 Bridges Road, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, S.C.
She was a native of Cleveland County and a daughter of the late James Edgar and Hope Ross Warren. She was a homemaker and a member of Rock Springs Baptist Church in Blacksburg.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
She is survived by her husband, Woodrow Wilbur McEntire of the home; a son and daughter - in - law, Harlan and Teresa McEntire of Gastonia; four sisters, Helen Grady of Charlotte, Sue Childers and Emma Hill, both of Rock Hill, and Roxanna Welch of Gastonia; a brother, Max Warren of Nashville, Tenn.; two grandsons, David McEntire and Alan McEntire, both of Blacksburg; and four great - grandchildren.
A graveside funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Rock Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Rev. Brian Harris officiating. Pallbearers will be Johnny Hulsey, Alvin Wylie, Bill Parker Jr., Larry Jones, Tommy Jones and Wayne Jones.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8 at White Columns Funeral Service in Blacksburg.

Jeremy Mayhew
LAWNDALE - Mr. Larry Jeremy Mayhew, 31, of 202 Southard St., died Saturday, June 9, 2001.
Born in Cleveland County, he was the son of Larry Lee Mayhew of Shelby and Donna Darlene Beaver Mayhew of Lawndale. He was a member of Polkville Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by three sisters, Nicole Hamrick of Casar, Angela Mayhew of Lawndale and Hope Mayhew of Shelby; a half sister, Casandra Mayhew of Shelby; a grandmother, Katie Hipps of Shelby; a special niece, Katlyn Mayhew; and four other nieces and a nephew.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Stamey Funeral Home in Fallston, with the Revs. Alton Martin and Pete Bridges officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Iris Thorne
SUMTER, S.C. - Mrs. Iris Hollifield Thorne, 89, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at Tuomey Healthcare System.
Born in Chesnee, S.C., she was a daughter of the late James Ross Hollifield and the late Mary Sue McKinney Hollifield. She was a member of Crosswell Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Britton Thorne.
She is survived by two sons, John T. Thorne of Columbia, S.C., and James E. Thorne of Sumter, S.C.; three daughters, Ann Hamby of Shelby and Gayle Johnston and Debbie Atkinson, both of Sumter; an adopted son, Tommy Barron of Sumter; two sisters, Annie Sue Parris of Chesnee and Laura Turner of Brevard; 12 grandchildren and 19 great - grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Elmore - Hill - McCreight Funeral Home, with the Revs. Rodney Howard and Steve Rohrlack officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Grandsons and great - grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Members of Dorcas Sunday School Class of Crosswell Baptist Church will be honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at the funeral home and at other times at the home.

A graveside funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Oak View Baptist Church Cemetery, Kings Mountain, with the Revs. James Barnes and Randy Funderburke officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home.

SHELBY - Mr. Jesse Lee Adams, 72, of 1101 N. Morgan St., died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Annie Sue Sellers Champion, 79, of 700 Self St., formerly of Mount Holly, died Sunday, June 10, 2001, at Century Care of Cherryville.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter's Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jack Cooke officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Gardens in Mount Holly.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service, and at other times at the home of a niece, Doris Hoyle, 113 Delview Road, Cherryville.

Callie Hawkes
SALISBURY - Mrs. Callie Mahaffey Hawkes, 81, died Monday, June 11, 2001, at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation of Rowan.
Born June 19, 1919, in Wilkes County, she was a daughter of the late William C. and Emma Jane Prevette Mahaffey. She was educated in Wilkes County Schools and was a member of Milford Hills Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Stanford White Templeton, who died April 17, 1961, and Dr. James H. Hawkes in 1970.
She is survived by a daughter and son - in - law, Edna T. and Ed Patterson of Shelby; a brother, Hayden Mahaffey of Winston - Salem; a sister, Linda Peoples of Winston - Salem; three grandchildren and five great - grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Summersett Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Jerry Allen officiating. Burial will be private in Rowan Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home after the service.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Summersett Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Clarene Allran Hendrick, 90, of 908 E. Main St., died Monday, June 11, 2001, at Lincoln Regional Medical Center.
