Evelyn Robinson
SHELBY - Ms. Evelyn Edna Carter Robinson, 77, of 934 W. Warren St., Apt. 4-C, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Ernest Lee and Ethel Viola Ervin Carter. She was retired from Lily Mill and was employed with the Senior Center. She was a member of Lafayette Street United Methodist Church, where she was nursery director for 45 years. She was a member of the Lily Old Timers Club and Lily Friendship Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Maxine C. Bridges.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Edrie R. and Jim Hurst of Tallahassee, Fla., Ebbie R. and Jeff Champion of Shelby and Erin R. and Joe Cocola of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; one sister, Marilyn Daves of Shelby; three grandsons, Clay Champion and Taylor Champion, both of Shelby, and Lewis Ramsey of Tallahassee; and one granddaughter, Duski Kowalski of Tallahassee.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Lafayette Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gervase Hitch officiating. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and other times at the home of a daughter, Ebbie Champion, 712 Hanover Drive, Shelby.

Virginia Willis
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Mrs. Virginia Burton Willis, 81, of Lakeshore Heartland Nursing Center in Nashville, formerly of Shelby, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at Summitt Medical Center in Nashville.
A native of York County, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Floyd Leslie and Bessie Farris Burton. She was retired from Southern Bell after 30 years of service as a telephone operator. She was a member of Shelby Presbyterian Church and the Pioneer Workers of America.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Leslie Burton.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Wanda Willis and Norman Tenenbaum of Nashville; one granddaughter, Caroline Burton Tenenbaum of Nashville; two sisters, Ruby Kathryn Keesee of Havie de Grace, Md., and Elizabeth Lee "Betty" Ellis of Greenville, Tenn.; four nephews; and three nieces.
The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. at the chapel at Cleveland Funeral Services with the Rev. George Rolling officiating. Burial will follow Saturday at 11 a.m. at Sunset Cemetery.

Dorothy Womble
BESSEMER CITY - Ms. Dorothy Ricks Womble, 75, of 117 Womble Drive, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
A native of Detroit, Mich., she was the daughter of the late Rev. Walter and Launard Ricks. She lived in Gaston County. She was a retired teacher and served for 42 years in the Gaston and Cleveland County school systems. She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Womble Sr.
She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, William C. and Ethel Womble of Baltimore, Md., and Barron A. Womble of Bessemer City; one daughter, Dorothy K. Womble of New Castle, Del.; one brother, Walter Cutler of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and one granddaughter, Lindsay M. Womble.
The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Congregational United Church of Christ with the Rev. McDowell officiating. Burial will follow at Westview Gardens.

FOREST CITY - Mr. Charles E. Baldwin Jr., 49, of 310 McSwain Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, in Shelby.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Bobby Gene Bell, 66, of 743 Bell Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A graveside service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Ron Caulder officiating.

Dr. John Crow
SHELBY - Dr. John Buren Crow, M.D., 74, of 600 Crow Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Rev. C.C. and Lillie Toney Crow.
In 1948, he earned a Doctor of Medicine Degree from Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem. He completed one year of rotating internship at Rex Hospital in Raleigh in December 1949.
In January 1950, Dr. Crow began practicing medicine with Dr. Wyan Washburn in Boiling Springs for six months. On July 15, 1950, Dr. Crow open his office for the practice of medicine in Earl. His first office was in his home. Then, in 1959, he built a new office.
He served as a captain for the U.S. Army from 1955 to December 1956, serving in Germany. He saw active time during the Korean Conflict. He returned to Earl after the army and maintained a solo practice for more than 38 years. He was a member at First Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ola Maye Cannon Crow.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John Logan and Betsy Sowers Crow, and David Frank and Erin Patterson Crow, all of Shelby; two daughters and a son-in-law, Toni and Alan Cook of Ellenboro and Betty Denkler of Shelby; a sister and brother-in-law, Macy Crow and Jennings Brooks of Shelby; 11 grandchildren, Christopher Lee Sellers, Nelson Sneed "Chip" Sellers Jr., Karen Elizabeth Sellers, Erin Elizabeth Denkler, Sara Johana Denkler, Lydia Carol Denkler, John Michael Denkler, Zane Benson Crow, Seth Logan Crow, Makayla Patterson Crow and Mary Lee Crow; and a step-mother, Edith Crow of Kings Mountain.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church with the Revs. Crystal Champion and Glenn Davenport officiating. Burial will be at New Hope Baptist Church.

CASAR - Mrs. Donna Wright Hull, 95, of 114 Parker Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at Charlotte Health Care Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Moses Clarence and Nancy Crotts Wright. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Olive Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Plato Hull, a son, J.T. Hull, and a daughter, Macie Morehead.
She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Margie Hull of Florence, S.C., Carl and Loretta Hull of Casar, Ray and Peggy Hull of Vale, and Harold and Barbara Hull of Polk City, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Madelene Hull of Casar; five daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Howard Baucom of Charlotte, Bonnie and Jim Adkins of San Angelo, Texas, Birla Fay and Charles Cupps of Mount Holly, Carol and Frank Courson of Charlotte, Letha Pyatte of San Antonio, Texas, and Guy Morehead of Ellenboro; 24 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

SHELBY - The Rev. Harold Eugene Huntsinger, 70, of 1708 Fallston Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Robert and Lela Rabb Huntsinger.
He was a retired employee of Container Corporation.
He is survived by his wife Bessie Johnson Huntsinger; two brothers, Bill Huntsinger and Albert Huntsinger, both of Shelby; and two sisters, Selma Ware of Shelby and Earlene Huntsinger of Forest City.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Wallace Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Lero Hudson officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be at Rose Hill Memorial Park.

SHELBY - Mrs. Barbara Burnette Grayson Moses, 56, of 3609 George Beam Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Arlon John Grayson. She was a homemaker and a member of Big Springs Baptist Church.
She is survived by her mother, Marlan Beam Grayson Cone of Shelby; her husband, Charles Herchell Moses of Morganton; a son and daughter-in-law, Karl and Tamara Moses of Morganton; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Howell Wagner of Greensboro, and a brother, Stanley Grayson of Shelby.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Big Springs Baptist Church with the Revs. Lawton Neely and Phil Bailey officiating. Burial will be at Big Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service at Big Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, and at other times at the home of Mrs. Marlan Beam Grayson Cone, 3609 George Beam Road, Shelby.

Charles Thomas "Tom" Blanton
SHELBY - Mr. Charles Thomas "Tom" Blanton, 62, of 3623 Polkville Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000.
He was the son of the late Charles Fred and Sarah McEntire Blanton.
He was employed at Future-Tech Window Systems Inc. of Greensboro. He was a graduate of Lattimore High School, attended Wake Forest University and served for four years in the United States Air Force.
Prior to returning home to North Carolina in 1998, he was active for many years as a coach in CYO and Babe Ruth League Baseball in Willingboro and Bordentown, N.J.
He is survived by his three sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Tracy Lee Blanton of Maryland, Thomas and Mary of Roanoke, Va., and Charles "Chuck" and Virginia Blanton of Shelby; three daughters and a son-in-law, Lisa and Ray Linnell of Kalispell, Mont., Laurie Blanton of Florence, N.J., and Jennifer Blanton of San Diego, Calif.; seven grandchildren; a brother, Robert S. "Steve" Blanton of Rockville, Md.; and a sister, Joan B. Hudson of Shelby.
The funeral will be Sunday at 3 p.m. at Union Baptist Church with the Revs. Michael Shumate and Russell Fitts officiating.
The family will receive friends Saturday night from 6 to 8 at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.
Norman Patrick
SHELBY - Mr. Norman E. Patrick, 81, of 1300 Hammock Ave., died Sunday, June 24, 2001, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 10, 1919, in Gaffney, S.C., he was a son of the late William Issac and Emma Blackwell Patrick. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Shelby. He was a Mason and a former member of Shelby Lions Club and the American Legion. He retired from A.V. Wray's department store, where he was merchandise manager of the men's department.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Keila Anne Patrick.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Humphries Patrick of the home; a son, Don R. Patrick of Newton; a brother and his wife, Dean and Ruby Patrick of Belmont; a granddaughter, Kelly Christine Patrick of Newton; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Woodrow Hamrick of Gaffney.
A graveside funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Grassy Pond Baptist Church Cemetery in Gaffney, with the Revs. Tony Tench and Roger Aycock officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Fred Atwood "Hap" McDaniel Sr., 93, of 607 Crescent Circle, died Saturday, June 23, 2001, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Gaither Hoyle and Ada Brown McDaniel. He retired from Dicey Fabrics in Shelby and was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Kings Mountain.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Houser McDaniel.
He is survived by a son, Fred A. McDaniel Jr., of Tega Cay, S.C.; a daughter, Carolyn Reed of Kings Mountain; a brother, Robert McDaniel and his wife, Wilma, of Columbia, S.C.; two sisters, Virginia Arnette of Kings Mountain and Wilma Hope of Gastonia; grandchildren, Sherri Brown and her husband, Eddie, of Charlotte; Dr. Charles Reed and his wife, Jill, of Hickory; and Dr. John Reed and his wife, Carolyn, of Greenville; and great-grandchildren, Katherine, Patrick, Natalie, Elizabeth and Alicha.
A graveside funeral will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Mountain Rest Cemetery, with Dr. Donald Mitchell officiating.

Robert 'Bob' Whitaker
SHELBY - Mr. Robert Morris Whitaker, Jr., 53, of 1044 Mooresboro Road, died Monday, June 25, 2001, at his home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was a Sergeant in the Army, serving in Vietnam with the First Air Cavalry Division. He was a road truck driver with Carolina Freight and later ABF Motor Freight and was a member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church and the Teamsters Union affiliated with Local No. 161.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Sherman Dean Whitaker.
He is survived by his parents, Robert Sr. and Elaine Daves Whitaker of the home; three sons, Robert Mitchal, Bret Evan and Dustin Wyatt Whitaker, all of the home; four daughters, Tammy Elaine Darnell and husband, Michael, of Shelby, Vicky Lynn Lilienthal and husband, Keith, of Shelby; Lisa Ann Wray and husband, Rush, of Asheville and Misty Cherish King of Durham; a brother, Michael Richard Whitaker and wife, Linda, of Shelby; sisters, Wanda Jean Rains and husband, Steve, of Blacksburg, S.C., and Cathy Jo Whitaker of Shelby; four grandchildren, Mikaela and Drew Darnell and Colton and Kyra Lilienthal.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Sandy Plains Baptist Church with the Rev. Don McSwain officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Fellow drivers will serve as honorary pallbearers; military honors will be conducted by the U.S. Army Honor Guard, Fort Bragg.

LAWNDALE - Mr. Clayton Ruffus "Red" Heavner, 69, of P.O. Box 74, died Monday, June 25, 2001, at his home.
Born January 5, 1932, in Cleveland County, he was a retired maintenance supervisor at Drexel Furniture Company in Shelby, where he worked for 35 years. He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church and a former member of the fire brigade of Drexel Furniture.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Clayton Heavner and Selma Powell Heavner, and four brothers, Paul, Roger, C.P. and Donald Heavner.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Pansy Lail Heavner, of the home; two sons, Jerry Heavner of Shelby and Danny Heavner of the home; four brothers and three daughters-in-law, Charles and Joyce Heavner of Shelby, Tom and Bonnie Heavner of Lawndale, Kenneth and Jenie Heavner of Shelby and James Heavner of Lawndale; two sisters and a son-in-law, Jo Ann Bell of Shelby, and Marie and Clyde Alexander of Morganton; two grandsons, Alan and his wife, Kellie, Heavner of Boiling Springs, and Dylan Heavner of Casar and a granddaughter, Emily Willis of Casar.
