Boyce "Shorty" Peeler
SHELBY - Mr. Boyce "Shorty" Lee Peeler, 62, of 340 Double Shoals Road, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at his home.
Born Sept. 11, 1937, in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Elmer Gamble and Florine Mull Peeler. He worked as a fixer for Howell Mill. He belonged to Double Shoals United Methodist Church and was a mineral collector.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandchild, Amanda Peeler.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Mullinax Peeler of the home; two daughters, Penny Peeler of Lawndale and Joan Peeler of Shelby; a special child, Jesse Crotts, and a stepson, Joe Crotts, both of the home; four stepdaughters, Debbie Shelton of Cliffside, Freida Lail and Penny Gilliam, both of Shelby, and Martha Walker of Smyrna, S.C.; a sister and a brother-in-law, Peggy and Ray Champion of Shelby; and two nephews, Mark Champion and Allen Champion of Shelby.
The funeral is today at 2 p.m. at Double Shoals United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Reep and Jack Waters officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family received friends Monday at Stamey Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, N.C. 28150.
Stamey Funeral Home in Fallston is in charge of arrangements.

Hoyt Hamrick
BOSTIC - Mr. Hoyt Talmadge Hamrick, 90, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Salem United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home.

Rosa Mae Lovelace
RUTHERFORDTON - Mrs. Rosa Mae Lee Mote Lovelace, 93, of 704 Poors Ford Road, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at Oakland Living Center.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Spencer Baptist Church in Spindale, with the Revs. Billy Vaughn and Kelly Tobias officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Forest City.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Crowe's Mortuary.

Sarah Spikes
SHELBY - Ms. Sarah Laverne Spikes, 39, of 2027 Kingston Road, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Dockery's Funeral Home.

Lewis Hall
SHELBY - Mr. Lewis Edgar Hall, 89, of White Oak Manor, and formerly of Gastonia, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at his home.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Carothers Funeral Home in Gastonia.

John Hendrick
SHELBY - Mr. John Rochel Hendrick, 87, of 814 East Marion St., died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born Aug. 17, 1912, in Shelby, he was the son of the late Rochel Lee and Nursa Costner Hendrick. He was a graduate of Shelby High School and Gardner-Webb College. He retired as office manager for Spangler & Sons Concrete, and he had previously worked as office manager for Shelby Mill. A lifelong member of Central United Methodist Church, he belonged to the Hoey Bible Class.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Verta Hendrick Jarrell and two brothers, Andrew Ford Hendrick and Charles Wesley Hendrick.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Leonard Hendrick of Shelby, whom he married Aug. 9, 1939; a brother, James Walter Hendrick of Spartanburg, S.C.; a sister, Frances Hendrick Agnew of Kershaw, S.C.; and a brother-in-law, Gene Franklin Leonard of Shelby.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Cleveland Memorial Park, with the Rev. Carl Johnson and Dr. Joe Reeves officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Palmer Mortuary.
Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 200 East Marion St., Shelby, N.C. 28150.

George Borders
SHELBY - Mr. George David Borders, 70, of 301 Cedarwood Drive, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Enloe Mortuary of Shelby.
The family will be receiving friends at the home of his son, George K. Borders of 324 Beaumonde Ave., Shelby.

Faye Earley
FOREST CITY - Mrs. Faye Bailey Earley, 57, of 225 Lovelace Road, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at her home.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Foursquare Gospel Light Tabernacle with the Rev. Ricky Poteat. Her body will be placed at home after 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Harrelson Funeral Home in Caroleen is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Wallace
CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Mary Helen Ross Wallace, 78, of 400 Lambeth Drive, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at University Hospital in Charlotte.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Enloe Mortuary of Shelby.

V.Q. Blalock Sr.
DALLAS - Mr. V.Q. Blalock Sr., 76, of 418 East Church St., died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at his home.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Ebony and White's Funeral Service, with Rev. David Lindsay officiating. Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service in the chapel.

Lorena Moore
GROVER - Mrs. Lorena K. Moore, 87, of 1565 Longbranch Road, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Sharon, S.C., on July 29, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Ethel Kirklin Estes and Jimmy Kirklin. She was a member of Long Branch First Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday school teacher for 30 years, was a member of the senior choir and served on the missionary and usher boards.
She served as treasurer of the District 2 Missionaries of the Women's Auxiliary to the Ebeneezer Baptist Association for many years. She was also a member of the Heralds of Jericho and The Eastern Star.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Lorender W. Moore, and four sons, Lawrence Henry Moore, Lee Jay Moore, William Moore Jr. and Michael Moore.
She is survived by five daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Sam Rippy and Joyce and Gus Degree of Atlanta, Deborah Annette and Bobby London of the home, Sandra Moore of Charlotte and Dr. Katheryne Moore of Virginia Beach, Va.; four sons and a daughter-in-law, Larry and Karen Moore of Spartanburg, S.C., Carl Moore of Kings Mountain, Ronnie Moore of Alexandria, Va.; ; one brother, the Rev. James Thompson of High Point; two sisters-in-law, Cora Mae Moore of Shelby and Mary Elizabeth Tate of Grover; 30 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; 17 great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A "Going Home Celebration" will be held Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Long Branch First Baptist Church of Grover.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7 to 8 at the church and at other times at the family home.

Lillie Inez Davis
WOODRUFF, S.C. - Miss Lillie Inez Davis, 92, died Thursday, Jan. 20, at Woodruff Health Care.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late William E. and Jesse Becknell Davis.
She is survived by one daughter, Edwina D. Neal of Gaffney, S.C.; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.
A memorial service will be Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at Shiloh Presbyterian Church, with the Revs. Nancy Mumford and Joyce Murphy officiating.
The family will receive friends Sunday after the service in the church vestibule.
Lanford Funeral Home in Woodruff, S.C., is in charge of arrangements.

J.L. Suttle Jr.
SHELBY - Mr. J.L. Suttle Jr., 88, of 602 W. Marion St., died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, at his home.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.

Lewis Hall
LAWNDALE - Mr. Lewis Edgar Hall, 89, of 635 Belwood-Lawndale Road, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at White Oak Manor in Shelby.
A native of Cocke County, Tenn., he was born on July 30, 1910, the son of the late James Vineyard and Rosa Phillips Hall. He was retired from Firestone Mills and attended East Garrison Baptist Church in Gastonia.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Lula Hill Hall and Viola Webb Hall; two brothers, James B. Hall and John Perry Hall; and three sisters, Nan Johnson, Mary Emma Reese and Dora Hall.
He is survived by one brother, Carl Hall of Newport, Tenn.; three sisters, Pearl Hodge of Knoxville, Tenn., Margaret White of Olin and Minnie Kirby of Lawndale; one sister-in-law, Jennie Hall of Gastonia; one stepson, Douglas Davenport of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; one stepdaughter, Joyce Ethington of Mathews; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Colonial Chapel at Carothers Funeral Home, with the Revs. Doug Baltzegar and James Kilby officiating. Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Thursday one hour before the service.

The Rev. Harold Dellinger
SHELBY -The Rev. Harold B. Dellinger, 76, of 2044 New Prospect Church Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born on Aug. 24, 1923, the son of the late Amzi Broadus and Blanche Hoover Dellinger. He was a retired minister and the South Mountain Association Director of Missions. He was a member of Buffalo Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Glenn Dellinger.
He is survived by his wife, Theo McSwain Dellinger; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Michael Dellinger and Harold and Diane Dellinger of Shelby; one brother, Dwight Dellinger of Fallston; three sisters, Elizabeth Massey of Dudley, Marilyn Hoyle of Shelby and Frances Williams of Greenville, S.C.; and five grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Buffalo Baptist Church, with the Revs. Max Turner and Ed Sessom officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 5:30 to 7:30 at Stamey Funeral Home.

Margaret Ratchford
HICKORY - Mrs. Margaret Goode Ratchford, 74, of 1205 12th Street Drive S.W., died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, at Catawba Memorial Hospital.
A native of Rutherford County, she was born on Jan. 22, 1926, the daughter of the late William Jefferson and Arrie Crawley Goode. She was retired from A&P and Quality Cleaners. She was a member of Westview United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis Clayton Ratchford Sr., and one brother, J.C. Goode.
She is survived by one son, Dennis Clayton Ratchford Jr. of Hickory; two daughters, Denese Ratchford Stallings of Kings Mountain and Deborah Ratchford of Atlanta; one sister, Dorothy Starnes of Winter Springs, Fla.; one brother, Gordon S. Goode of Waxhaw; two granddaughters, Jacquelyn Houston of Kings Mountain and Selina Lynn Ratchford of George Hildebran; and two grandsons, Kenneth Houston of Kings Mountain and Brett Allen Ratchford of Hickory.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Westview United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Charlene Hutchins officiating. Burial will follow at Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery in Catawba. Jim Ratchford, Mike Goode, Doug Goode, Jeff Goode, Brett Allen Ratchford and Kenneth Houston will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Bass-Smith Funeral Home.

Howard Logan
UTICA, N.Y. - Mr. Howard Edward Logan, 60, of 1550 Howard Avenue, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at Saint Luke's Hospital.
A native of Shelby, he was the son of the late Samuel and Anna "Missy" Logan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Gordon Logan; and one daughter, Dorothea Logan.
He is survived by two sons, Howard Leebern Logan of Kings Mountain and Howard Logan III of Utica; two daughters of Inkster, Mich.; two grandsons of Kings Mountain; seven sisters, Mrs. Christine L. Smith and her husband, Otis D., of Pittsburgh, Mrs. Valerie L. Stewart, Mrs. Doris L. Maddox and her husband, Edward, of Palmyra, N.J., Mrs. Rosa L. Jeter, Mrs. Johnnie L. Hastings, Mrs. Leonia L. Beam and Ms. Elsie L. Logan, all of Shelby; a special niece, Ramona Maddox; a special grandniece, Jasmine of the home; a close niece and nephew in New York City, Charlotte J. Womack and William Jeter Jr.; and many other relatives.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Enloe Mortuary.

Sarah Laverne Spikes
LAWNDALE - Ms. Sarah Laverne Spikes, 39, of 114 Powerhouse Road, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center, Shelby.
A native of Shelby, she was born Feb. 6, 1961, the daughter of Murrell and Sarah Key Spikes of Kingstown. She was a textile worker and had previously worked at PPG. She was a member of Palmer Grove Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by a son, Markeith Spikes of the home; three daughters, Bridget Spikes and Tiffany Spikes of the home and Yolanda Spikes of Vale; a devoted friend, Thomas Hill; four brothers and one sister-in-law, Michael and Patricia Spikes and Murrell Spikes Jr. of Kingstown, Kenneth Lane of Shelby, and Marcus Lane of Winston-Salem; and five sisters and one brother-in-law, Janet Lane of Kings Mountain, Hazel Degree and Marie Spikes of Kingstown, Ann and Sherwood Brown of Lawndale, and Nita Spikes Coleman of Winston-Salem; two stepchildren, James and Lisa Hill of Lawndale; nine nieces and nephews; five great nieces and nephews; a devoted friend, Ray Toms; and several other relatives.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Palmer Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Smith officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service.
