CHERRYVILLE - Mr. Albert Eugene "Bud" Black, 62, of 608 North Drive, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Mr. Thomas S. Hartfield Jr., 58, of 1208 Batchelor Drive, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center in Gaffney.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at New Beginning Church of God, Cherokee Falls, with the Rev. Larry Reeves officiating. Burial will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the Florence National Cemetery, Florence, S.C.

Raymond Hart
SHELBY - Mr. Raymond Alfred Hart, 70, of 116 Rayton Drive, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Bridgeport, N.Y., he was the son of the late William S. and Millicent Beechner Hart. He was separated from the Marine Corps as a staff sergeant and served the duration of the Korean War. He retired after 46 years of service with the New York Central, Penn Central and Conrail Railroads. He worked as a brakeman. He was a member of VFW Post No. 7290 and was memorialized for his service at the Veteran's Memorial in North Syracuse, N.Y.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Peter S. Hart.
He is survived by his wife, Dixie Louise Hall Hart of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Katheryn and Ronny Honeycutt of Boiling Springs and Renea and Larry Waters of Shelby; a brother, William Hart of Syracuse, N.Y.; four sisters, Lillian Stevenson, Iva Martin, Florence Waite and Vera DeMario, all of Syracuse, N.Y.; a grandson, Chris Waters of Shelby; and four granddaughters, Jennifer Honeycutt, Ashley Honeycutt, Tonya Waters and Tiffany Waters, all of Shelby.
A private memorial service will be held for the family.

Carl Rasnick
SHELBY - Mr. Carl Lingbergh Rasnick, 72, of 2834 Fallston-Waco Road, died Wednesday, March 8, 2000, at his home.
A native of Dickenson County, Va., he was the son of the late Newton Douglas and Rosey Melissa McCoy Rasnick. He was a lifetime member of DAV and a former member of Waco Ruritan Club. He served in the Army in Germany during the occupation.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Edgar Rasnick; and two sisters, Naomi Rasnick and Celia Cuthbertson.
He is survived by his wife, Faye McCoy Rasnick of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney and Jill Rasnick of Norcross, Ga., and Stacy and Mary Rasnick of Morganton; two brothers, Norman Rasnick of Aurora, Ill., and Elijah Rasnick of Granite Falls; a sister, Winifred Utting of Winnebago, Ill.; three granddaughters, Rayna Mull, Gina Rasnick and Carly Rasnick; two great-grandchildren, Mitchel Reece and Shelby Lambert; fourteen nieces; and five nephews.
A graveside service will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Rose Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. George Leigh officiating.

Robert Cornwell
LAWNDALE - Mr. Robert Alton Cornwell, 84, of 3335 Robert Cornwell Road, died Saturday, March 11, 2000, at his home.
Born in Cleveland County on Aug. 3, 1915, he was a son of the late George Landrum and Julia Gold Cornwell. He was a cattle and field crop farmer. He graduated from Piedmont High School and had served on the Cleveland County Board of Education. He was a charter member of Upper Cleveland Rescue Squad, a Master Mason since 1946 with Lawndale Masonic Lodge No. 486, and an avid Rook player. A lifelong member of Zion Baptist Church, he was a former deacon and an active member of the Sunday school, the Golden Years Club and the Brotherhood.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six sisters, Buna Hull, Lala Stamey, Mattie Gettys, Marie Horn, Clema Elmore and Margaret Lee; four brothers, Ab Cornwell, Lee Cornwell, Hal Cornwell and James Cornwell; two grandchildren, Denise Johnson and Jeffrey Spurling; and a son-in-law, Dennis Johnson.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Earlene Hoover Cornwell; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Dottie Cornwell of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Rick and Rhonda Cornwell of Gastonia; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Gail Johnson of Pittsburgh, Joan and Paul Johnson of Lawndale and Rhonda and Tom Wright of Lawndale; nine grandchildren, Cindy Witner, Bobby Cornwell, Paula Bumgarner, Amy Witner, Greg Johnson, Gary Johnson, Jennifer Johnson, Julia Register and Angela Spurling; six great-grandchildren, Jordan Spangler, Jamie Spangler, Taylor Witner, J. D. Witner, Brittany Cornwell and Ashley Cornwell, and an expected great-grandchild to be born to Julia Register; a brother, Tom Cornwell of Morganton; and a sister, Pearl Warlick of Raeford.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Zion Baptist Church, with the Revs. Randy Bridges and Russell Fitts officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

HICKORY - Mr. R. A. Lackey, 84, died Saturday, March 11, 2000, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory.

Wilbur Mincey
SHELBY - Mr. Wilbur Harvey Mincey, 75, of 1550 Hilltop Drive, died Sunday, March 12, 2000, at Hospice of Cleveland County.
Born April 12, 1924, in Nichols, S.C., he was the son of the late Willie and Francis Roberts Mincey. He was a graduate of Floyds High School in Nichols. He retired in 1990 as a salesman for Transmission Supply Inc. of Greensboro after 30 years of service. During World War II, he was a sergeant in the Army First Armored Division and served in Africa and Italy from 1943 to 1945. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Shelby.
He is survived by his wife, Violet Beck Mincey; two sons, Larry Y. Mincey of Shelby and Harry B. Mincey of Zebulon; a daughter, Charlotte Francis Hughes of Burlington; four grandchildren, Mary Dawn Boeving, L. Dean Mincey, Justin Hughes and Holly Hughes; and three great-grandchildren, Storm Mincey, Joshua Mincey and Jacob Boeving.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Mount Olive Baptist Church Cemetery in Nichols, with the Rev. Phillip Hughes officiating.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Meares Funeral Home in Mullins, S.C.

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Daisy Carpenter Padgett, 82, of 6000 Park South Drive, formerly of Spindale, died Saturday, March 11, 2000, at Mercy South Hospital in Pineville.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Spindale United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mike Duncan officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

James Thompson Sr.
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. James Lawson "Jim" Thompson Sr., 64, of 914 Blalock Drive, died Sunday, March 12, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia.
A native of York County, S.C., he was a son of the late Lester Lawson and Pacey Watts Thompson. He was a member of First Wesleyan Church in Kings Mountain. He was retired and served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post No. 9811 and the American Legion, Otis D. Green Post No. 155.
He is survived by his wife, Evelene Oliver Thompson; two sons, Jimbo Thompson of Kings Mountain and Don Henderson and his wife, Sheila, of Kings Mountain; three daughters, Sandra Randle and her husband, Hoyle, and Jackie Roberts, all of Kings Mountain, and Lynn Thompson of Shelby; a brother, Olin Dewitt Thompson, and a sister, Mell Thompson Ott, both of Clover, S.C.; and seven grandchildren, Leebo Henderson, Josh Randle, Tyler Randle, David Wease, Bradley Wease, LeeAnn Thompson and Lori Thompson.

Thomas Tisdale III
ELLENBORO - Mr. Thomas Paul Tisdale III, 68, of 234 Church St., died Saturday, March 11, 2000, at High Point Regional Medical Center.
A native of Rutherford County, he was a son of Mary Easler Tisdale of Ellenboro and the late Thomas Paul Tisdale Jr. He was a veteran of the Korean War and a retired store owner. He was a former fire chief for the Ellenboro Fire Department and served on the Ellenboro Board of Aldermen. He was also a local radio personality. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Ellenboro, where he was a former deacon.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Greene Tisdale.
He is survived by one son, Thomas Tisdale IV and his wife, Karen, of Ellenboro; two daughters, Pamela Jean Tisdale and her husband, Gary McFarland, of Jamestown, and Cathy Tisdale Murray and her fiancé, Bobby Smith, of Ellenboro; seven grandchildren, Andrew Tisdale, Rebecca Tisdale, Elizabeth McFarland, Megan McFarland, Matthew Murray, Michaela Murray and Micah Murray; two brothers, George Tisdale of Bostic and Kenneth Tisdale of Greenville, S.C.; and two sisters, Vivian Brooks Greene of Ellenboro and Bobbie Tisdale Jenkins of Belmont.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church, with Dr. Wayne Blackwood and the Rev. Ad Hopper officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Barbara Holbrook
SHELBY - Mrs. Barbara Ann Walker Holbrook, 59, of 119 Cross Creek Drive died Monday, March 13, 2000, at her home.
A native of Rutherford County, she was born April 21, 1940, the daughter of Irene Walker of Rutherfordton and the late H.C. Walker .
A 1962 graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College, she was a May Day Queen, a dean's list student, a cheerleader for four years and listed in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities, as well as, a member of Delta Zeta Sorority.
She taught at East Rutherford High School in Forest City where she also coached the girl's basketball team to an undefeated record and the State Association Championship. She taught in the Health and Physical Education Department at Gardner-Webb College where she was also in charge of the cheerleaders, Pep Club, May Day activities and was one of the first certified aerobic instructors in the state. Her husband was Head Basketball Coach at Gardner-Webb College for 14 years and 4 years at Furman University in Greenville, S.C. After 14 years at Gardner Webb, she became a homemaker, and she and her husband became part-owners of Four Star Sports in Shelby where she remained involved until it was sold.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Eddie Holbrook of Shelby; a daughter and son-in-law, Nicole and David Arendas of Shelby; a son, Chad Holbrook of UNC-Chapel Hill and his fiancee, Jennifer Hillard and three grandchildren, David Christian, Walker and Carley, all of Shelby.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Dr. Robert Canoy and Dr. Chris White officiating. Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
