James Poston
SHELBY - Mr. James Osborne Poston, 70, of 2306 Holly Lane, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late William Garnett and Lillie Borders Poston. He retired as a supervisor with Bartlett Tree Company and was a member of Elizabeth Baptist Church. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Aurelia Cook Poston; a son, Jay Poston of Los Angeles; a daughter, Holly P. Cruickshank of Durham; a brother, McBride Poston of Shelby; a sister, Joann Efrid of Monroe; and a grandson, Blade Cruickshank of Durham.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Elizabeth Baptist Church, with the Rev. Terry Jordan officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday an hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorials may be made to Elizabeth Baptist Church, 301 N. Post Road, Shelby, N.C. 28150.
Palmer Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Marilyn "Lyn" Harmon
HARKER HEIGHTS, Texas - Mrs. Marilyn "Lyn" Green Harmon, 61, of Harker Heights, died Monday, March 20, 2000, at a Temple, Texas hospital.
A native of Kings Mountain, she was born on June 29, 1938, the daughter of the late Fred Thomas and Lois Lovelace Green.
She graduated from Bethware High School. She was retired from the K.I.S.D. Transportation Department as a school bus driver and was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, where she served as a Vacation Bible School Helper, choir member, and a past church treasurer. She coached the Harker Heights City League in softball, was a Girl Scout Troop Leader, a chaperone for the Fort Hood Dophin Swim Team and an assistant to the Kileen High Swim Team.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Green and Charles Green.
She is survived by her husgand, Paul Dale Harmon of the home; two daughters, Carol Jean Harmon of Harker Heights and Sandra Harmon Descheneaux of Dhahran, Saudi Arabia; a brother, Emmett O. Green of Kings Mountain and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church, Harker Heights, Texas.
Burial will follow in the Kileen Memorial Park in Kileen, Texas.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Harper Talasek Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Association, designated for breast cancer research.

Larry Dickson
GAFFNEY - Mr. Larry Dean Dickson, 47, of 211 Rolling Hill Circle, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain.
A graveside service will be Friday at 4 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Joe Paul Turner officiating.
The family will receive friends at the home.
Gordon Mortuary of Blacksburg is in charge of arrangements.

Annie Edmonson
SHELBY - Mrs. Annie Richards Edmonson, 87, of 401 N. Morgan St., died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at White Oak Manor.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Clay-Barnette Funeral Home.

Ellis Arrowood
FOREST CITY - Mr. Ellis Garland Arrowood, 59, of 127 Robinhood Drive, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
A memorial service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Padgett & King Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy R. Chrisawn officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

"Buddy" Sneed
BOILING SPRINGS - Mr. Oakland "Buddy" Sneed, 73, of 1919 Holly Hill Road, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at his residence.
A native of Buncombe County, he was the son of the late John Henderson and Elsie Champion Sneed. He was retired from Tasty Cream Bakery in Boiling Springs where he was owner. He served in the Navy during World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John T. Sneed and Grover Sneed; and two sisters, Mina Cook and Fleeta Brown.
He is survived by his wife, Jenny Clevinger Sneed of the home; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Joann Sneed of the home, Velma and John Kirk of Woodstock, Calif., Barbara and Don Harvell of Riverside, and Joni and Chuck Boheler of Shelby; two sons, Mike Sneed of Shelby, and Jock Sneed of the home; five granddaughters and two grandsons-in-law, Amanda and Jason Ackerman of Sacrementon, Sheryl and Johnny Olejniczak of Kinston, Jennifer Kirk of Woodstock, Jenny Boheler of Shelby, and Mallori Sneed of Mooresboro; two grandsons, Brad Harvell of Riverside, and Charlie Boheler of Shelby; a great-grandson, Jake Olejniczak of Kinston; two brothers, Clayton Sneed of Boiling Springs and Rex Sneed of Durham; and four sisters, Jean Bivins of Old Fort, Mitchell Burleson and Mary Todd, both of Black Mountain, and Fannie McDaniel of Swananoa.
The funeral will be Friday at noon at the Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery Chapel in Black Mountain with the Rev. Jack Thomas officiating.
Burial will follow at the cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at Cleveland Funeral Services and at other times at the home.

BESSEMER CITY - Mrs. Cora Tate Rayfield, 74, of 104 Rayfield Drive, died Tuesday, March 21, 2000, at her residence.
The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Mount Beulah Baptist Church with the Revs. Wade Huntsinger and Harold Fite officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will follow at Westview Gardens.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Carpenter's Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

BOILING SPRINGS - Mrs. Marjorie Nodine, 81, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000.

Carl Brackett
LAWNDALE - Mr. Carl McCoy Brackett, 80, of 1264 Belwood-Lawndale Road, died Monday, March 20, 2000, at the V.A. Medical Center in Asheville.
A native of Burke County, he was the son of the late Dewey Clarence and Mattie Eathel Mosteller Brackett. He was a member of St. Peter's United Methodist Church and was a an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the European Theatre. He was a retired tow-motor operator with PPG Industries.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lee Brackett; and two sisters, Lona Brackett and Eathel Brackett.
He is survived by his wife, Estelle Buff Brackett of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Rickey Keith Brackett of Casar and the Rev. Carroll and Phyllis Brackett of Kings Mountain; a daughter, Joy Anita Teague of Granite Falls; four brothers, Lonnie Brackett of Wilksboro, C.D. Brackett Jr. of Lenoir, Edgar Brackett of Cherryville and Fred Brackett of Lancaster, S.C.; six sisters, Pauline Unverzagt and Evelyn Smith, both of Cherryville, Geneva Colvard and Rebecca Osborne, both of Lenoir, Eva Hoyle of Lawndale and Virginia Brooks of Morganton; six grandchildren, Brian Brackett, Shelley Brackett, Donnie Brackett, Michelle Rowland, Christopher Teague and Gabrielle Teague; and three great-grandchildren, Jamie Greene, Jesse Greene and Alexis Rowland.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Fred Hill, Cecil Buff and Steve Kiser officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Colon Ellis
MOORESBORO - Mr. Colon William Ellis, 82, of 209 Westside Lane, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at his home.
A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Flay Oscar and Affie Belle Ledford Ellis. He was a retired farmer and custodian at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church, where he was also a member.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gary Dean Ellis; three brothers, F.V. Ellis, Hubert Ellis, and Clayton Ellis; and four sisters, Mary Thomas, Betty Saey, Lois Brendle, and Lecie Austin.
He is survived by his wife, Reba Inez Davis Ellis of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles William and Mary Ann Ellis of Mooresboro; a sister, Dessie Hullender of Shelby; and a grandson, Kevin Scott Ellis of Mooresboro.
The funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with the Revs. Terry Cagle, Robert Toney, and Andy Oliver officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and other times at the home.

RUTHERFORDTON - Mr. Stephen Paul Bailey, 79, of 320 Sherry Street, died Saturday, March 18, 2000.
The funeral will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Rutherfordton.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. James "JC" Keener, 79, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with Bishop Will Lawson officiating.
Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.

KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Joe B. Bell, 70, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at Vencor Hospital in Greensboro.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Ray Price officiating.
Burial will follow in Mountain Rest Cemetery.

KINGS MOUNTAIN -- Mr. Burgin Wilson, 80, of 206 Ebenezer Road, died Sunday, March 19, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Washington Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Denorris Byers officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church.

Annie Edmondson
SHELBY - Mrs. Annie Richards Edmondson, 87, of 401 N. Morgan Street, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Columbus and Mittie Bivins Richards. She was a retired spinner from Lily Mill Company and was a member of Faith Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Thomas Edmondson; a daughter, Maxine Wright; a brother, Fred Richards; and a sister, Bessie Richards.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Tommy and Maxine Edmondson and Dennis and Madge Edmondson, all of Shelby, and Ronnie and Kay Edmondson of Boiling Springs; two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Bobby Hartman of Shelby, and Christa and Chris Jewell of Clearwater, Fla.; a brother, Dwight Richards of Morganton; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Faith Baptist Church with the Revs. Barry Goodman, Johnny Owens, and Reed Jones officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service .
Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at other times at Suburban Acres, 5429 Canterbury Circle, Shelby.

Marjorie Nodine
BOILING SPRINGS - Mrs. Marjorie Moore Nodine, 81, of 127 E. Branch Avenue, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at Cleveland Pines.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Roland and Ada Skinner Callahan. She was retired from Fiber Industries. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church where she taught various children's Sunday school classes. She was a member of the Board of Directors of Boiling Springs Rescue.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Ernest Moore; one son, Jerry Moore; two brothers, Donnie Callahan and Howard Callahan; and three sisters, Ola Jolley, Ruth Byars and Helen Jolley.
She is survived by her second husband, Odell Nodine; one daughter-in-law, Ruth Moore; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lenda Queen and Olen Walker of Kings Mountain, Rhonda Keller and Billy of Gaffney, S.C. and Donna Mathis of Boiling Springs; one brother, J.D. Callahan of Union; four sisters,, Marion Jolly and Nell Fox, both of Mooresboro, Betty Poteat of Shelby and Barbara Cross of Hartwell, S.C.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Lutz-Austell Funeral Home.

SHELBY - Mr. Hugh Dean "Buster" Church, 51, of 737 Crawley Gin Road, died Thursday, March 23, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel.
The burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Sunday after the service at the funeral home and other times at the residence and at 400-2 Holman Drive, Shelby.

Lillie Mae Ross
SHELBY -- Mrs. Lillie Mae Ross, 72, of 408 Floyd St., died Monday, March 20, 2000, at her home.
A native of Cherokee, S.C., she was born on May 1, 1929, the daughter of the late Jiles and Rosa Worthy Wilson. She was a member of McCaskil Brice F.B.H. Church in Gastonia where she was a member of the mother board.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Ross; two sons, Frank Ross and Johnny Ross; 13 brothers and sisters; and two sons-in-law, Robert F. Woods and Larry Mathis.
She is survived by five daughters, Sally Mathis, Betty Hush and her husband, Willie, Louvenia Ross, Julie Ross, Martha Woods; three sons, Joe Ross, Willie Ross and Andewer Ross, all of Shelby; four sisters, Suzie Smith and Lullu Earl, both of Gastonia, Lucille Brooks and Lizzie Littlejohn, both of Shelby; one brother, Pete Wilson of Shelby; one daughter-in-law, Evelyn Ross of Kansas City; two special friends, Judy Woods and Wanda Marion, both of Shelby; 18 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Genesis Funeral Services with Bishop T.L. McCluney officiating. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the funeral home and tonight at 7 p.m. at the home of a daughter, Betty Hush, 406 Floyd St., Shelby.
