Fern Willis
BELWOOD - Mrs. Fern Whisnant Willis, 86, of 523 Eastridge Road, died Monday, April 17, 2000, at her home.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Bruce and Nettie Warlick Whisnant. She was a member of St. Peter's United Methodist Church, where she was a former choir member and Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the United Methodist women and a Girl Scout leader. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. Wilson Willis.
She is survived by two sons, Gerald Willis of Belwood and Joe Willis of Henderson, Nev.; two daughters, Janet Bridges of Belwood and Patricia Spangler of Connelly Springs; a brother, Albert Whisnant of Polkville; two sisters, Clevie Spangler of Double Shoals, and Margaret Queen of Polkville; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steve Kiser officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6:30 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home.

Mary Whisnant
CARY - Mrs. Mary Neal Rudisill Whisnant, 83, died Monday, April 17, 2000, in Chapel Hill.
Born September 28, 1916, she was the adopted daughter of William Pierce and Virginia Pearl Rudisill of Asheville. She was co-valedictorian of the graduating class of 1934 at Lee H. Edwards High School. She married John K. Whisnant and they made their home in Enka for fifteen years. While there she was an active leader in her son's schools and in the West Asheville Baptist Church. She later resided in Shelby, Greensboro, Chapel Hill, Cary, and Greenville, S.C.
She is survived by four sons and four daughters-in-law, Dr. Richard A. and Elaine Sanford Whisnant of Cary, Drs. David E. and Anne Mitchell Whisnant of Chapel Hill, Dr. Norman E. and Kathleen Brady Whisnant of Greenville, S.C., and Dr. John K. Jr. and Nora Bartelt Whisnant of Belle Meade, N.J.; thirteen grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the West Asheville Baptist Church with the Rev. Frank Joseph Mitchell officiating.

Elijah Royster
FALLSTON - Mr. Elijah Austin Royster, 84, died Monday, April 17, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was born June 17, 1915, the son of the late Clemmie Lee Sr. and Alma Bowen Royster. He was a retired farmer and a member of Fallston Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene Elizabeth Rader Royster; a brother, Clemmie L. Royster Jr. and a sister, Margaret Royster.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Roger and Mitzi Royster of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Sherwin Royster and Donald Royster, both of Lawndale; a sister, Jackie Buff of Valdese; and a grandson, Garrett Royster.
A graveside service will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Rose Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Scott Norton officiating.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home.
Diane Black
GROVER - Mrs. Diane Peterson Black, 51, of 1237 Cleveland Avenue, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at her home.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of Zella Baugham Peterson of Shelby and the late Robert Elmer Peterson. She was a homemaker.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Peterson and Jerry Peterson.
She is survived by her husband, Paul D. Black of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Albert Schatz of Grover and Gayle and Sean Brown of Kings Mountain; a sister and brother-in-law, Teresa and Jim Thomassen of Shelby; and two grandchildren, Courtney Schatz and Dustin Schatz.
The funeral will be Friday at 4 p.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Reed Jones officiating.
Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.

Woodrow Hoyle
CASAR - Mr. Jacob Woodrow Hoyle, 83, of 131 Woodrow Hoyle Road, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at Autumn Care of Forest City.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Julius and Rebecca Shoupe Hoyle. He was self-employed as a farmer and carpenter and was a member of Saint Paul Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vangie Poole Hoyle; a son, Arvie Hoyle; and a grandson.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Jeanette Hoyle of Casar; a daughter, Mary Ellen Hoyle of Lawndale; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Saint Paul Baptist Church with the Revs. Ernie Speagle and Oliver Price officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.

Marvin Shaw
SHELBY - Mr. Marvin Howard Shaw, 73, of 1003 Brookhaven Drive, formerly of 213 Knox St., Statesville, died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at Iredell Memorial Hospital.
native of Iredell County, he was born on Feb. 27, 1927, the son of the late Marvin Wiley and Della Bowers Shaw. He was retired from Biggers Brothers in Charlotte, where he was a sales representative. He was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Shelby and a former member of Forest Park Presbyterian Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Fox, who died on Oct. 7, 1998; and one daughter, Jane Shaw Myers.
He is survived by his second wife, Nadine Lee Shaw; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Kent and Debbie Shaw of Troutman and Van Shaw of Statesville; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Johnny R. Shaw of Fayetteville; and one sister, Mildred Shaw Allison of Statesville.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Forest Park Presbyterian Church with Dr. James B. Richardson and the Rev. C. Fred Sanford officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Chris Shaw, Brian Shaw, Wesley Shaw, Randall Myers, Jeff Millsaps and Steve Gatton will serve as pallbearers.

NEWTON - Mrs. Violet Byers Morrison, 83, died Sunday, March 19, 2000, at Catawba Memorial Hospital.
A native of Iredell County, she was the daughter of the late P.W. and Mabel Byers. She was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and retired from Newton Knitting Mill.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Grace Byers Pope and Pearl Eagle; and a grandchild, Cathy Medlin.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Johnny Klutz of Newton and Catherine and Bob Medlin of Conover; a son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Carol Morrison of Newton; three sisters, Virginia Hamrick of Long Beach, Bunny Allen of Shelby, and Crystal Julian of Landis; a brother, Harry Byers of Wilson; five grandchildren, Teresa Ward of Sherrills Ford, James Morrison of Hickory, Kim Grant of Conover, Laura Wachsmuth of Claremont, and Andrea Medlin of Hildebran; eight great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Woodlawn Baptist Church with Dr. Ed Yount officiating.
Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be her nephews and grandsons.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John B. Hunt; and a sister, Jane H. Hobbs.
She is survived by two brothers, Jim Hunt of Nebo and Joe A. Hunt of Yaupon Beach; and a sister, Betty H. Blackwelder of Cherryville.

A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of Alfred H. and Poniese Wilson Williamson of Shelby. He was a farmer and was employed as a Manufacturing Engineer for Hurst Emergency Products. He was a member of Double Springs Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cathy Rollins Williamson.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Trey and Bobbie Williamson of Cullowhee; a brother, David Williamson of Shelby; a sister and brother-in-law, Dr. Linda Lawrence and Eric Lawrence of Albemarle; maternal grandmother, Verna N. Wilson of Shelby; and paternal grandmother, Lucy Falls Williamson of Shelby.
