Helen Weathers
SHELBY - Mrs. Helen Jones Weathers, 90, of 1285 Spurlin St., died Monday, March 20, 2000, at Hospice of Wendover.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Dock and Sally Ponder Jones. She was a homemaker and a lifetime member of Ross Grove Baptist Church and a member of the Mother's Sunday School Class.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Weathers; three brothers, Love Jones, Dr. Clyde Jones, and Herschel Jones; and a sister, Christine Hilton.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Margaret Weathers of Shelby; a daughter, Betty Howland of Shelby; a sister, Margaret Goodman of Shelby; two grandchildren and a grandson-in-law, Jeffrey Weathers of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and Brenda and James Cook of Casar, a great-granddaughter, Shelley Bundy of Casar; and two step-great-grandchildren, Wade Cook and Nathan Cook.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Ross Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Gene Daggerhart officiating.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home and at other times at the home.

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. - Mrs. Thelma G. Lark, 90, died Thursday, April 13, 2000 in Pompano Beach.
She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Judy Vrooman and Jo and Chuck Bolt, all of Fort Lauderdale; one son and daughter-in-law, John and Judy Lark of Wildomar, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral will be private.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Bolt, 120 Kester Drive, Cherryville.

NEWTON - Mr. Robert "Bobby" Avery Graham, 38, of 1504 Mount Oliver Church Road, died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at Catawba Memorial Hospital.
A native of Elizabeth, N.J., he was the son of Vernon Robinson of Shelby and the late Airleen Glover Graham Williams. He was employed as a stripper at Gulf State Paper Company and was a member of Lawndale First Baptist Church.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his grandfather, Richard Glover Sr.; two aunts, Ruth Glover and Thelma Bradshaw; and one uncle, John Preston Glover.
He is survived by his wife, Sherry Hands Graham of the home; one son, Nevin Tremayne Hands of the home; one step-daughter, Lavonda Shauntae Connor of Hickory; two sisters, Barbara Bynum of Lincolnton and Arnitta Collier of Gastonia; one brother, Kenneth Williams of Mount Holly; three aunts, Doris Glover of Newton, Naomi Schenck of Iron Station and Betty Glover of East Orange, N.J.; one uncle, Richard Glover Jr. of Shelby; and one grandmother, Katie Glover of Lawndale.
The funeral will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at Lawndale First Baptist Church with the Rev. Howard Sims officiating.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Margie N. Holland, 80, of Charlotte, died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at her home.
A native of Charlotte, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Thomas and Minnie Ferris Nossar. She was formerly with the Quarter Masters Office in Washington, D.C. and later retired from the Small Business Administration. She was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Griffin Holland; a sister, Elizabeth Allison; and a brother, James J. Nossar.
She is survived by her aunt, Luvenia Ferris of Charlotte; two nieces, Nancy N. Monroe of High Point and Linda Nossar of Winston-Salem; a great-niece, Robin Monroe; a nephew, Jimmy Nossar of Charlotte; four cousins, Minnie Ferris of Charlotte, Doris Downing of Norfolk, Va., Orri Putnam of Lake Wylie, S.C., and Myra Putnam of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Holland and Lib Claytor, both of Shelby, and Betty Nossar of Charlotte.
The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Harry & Bryant Funeral Chapel in the Oaks, 500 Providence Road, with Deacon Steve Horai officiating.
Entombment will follow in Sharon Memorial Park Mausoleum.

William "Maje" Fitch Jr.
LINCOLNTON - Mr. William "Maje" McKinley Fitch Jr., 71, of 3365 Landers Church Road, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late William McKinley and Leila Self Fitch. He was retired after 39 years with Southern Bell Co. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and Elizabeth Baptist Church. He served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Audrey and Gary Stewart, and Terri Fitch, all of Charlotte; a brother, John Fitch of Shelby; five sisters, Edith Christian of Davidson, Clara Lee DeLamar of Spartanburg, S.C., Billie Dycus of Charlotte, Betty Edwards of Roaring River, and Andrea McSwain of Shelby; and two grandchildren, Jennifer Stewart and Ben Stewart.
A graveside service will be today at 2 p.m. in the Elizabeth Baptist Church cemetery with Pastor Michael Varn officiating.

SHELBY - Mrs. Elise P. Laughridge, 78, of 813 Parkwood Road, died Thursday, April 20, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born Oct. 3, 1921, in Shelby, she was the daughter of the late Malcolm E. and Minnie Threatt Putnam. She was a homemaker and a member of Central United Methodist Church of Shelby.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.
She is survived by her husband, Walter W. Laughridge of the home; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Jane L. and Ken Teasley of Clyde, and Lee Anne and Hal Bryant of Shelby; two sisters, Milla Griffith of Lincolnton and Hazel Ervin of Shelby; and two grandchildren, Elizabeth Teasley and Katie Bryant.
A memorial service will be today at 11 a.m. at Palmer Mortuary with the Rev. Carl Johnson and Dr. Joe Reeves officiating.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes after the service at Palmer Mortuary.

STATESVILLE - Mrs. Catherine Lowery Lanier, 82, of Statesville, died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at Davis Medical Center.
Born June 26, 1917, in Statesville, she was the daughter of the late R.A. "Jack" Sr. and Etta Carter Lowery.
She is survived by seven sisters; four sons; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two daughters and a son-in-law, including Gay and Tom Bolick of Shelby.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Abilene Church of Christ in Statesville.
