KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Arnold R. Pennington, 47, of 106 Timms St., died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at his home.
The funeral will be Friday at 4 p.m. at Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Gene Grigg and Florence Ayers officiating.
Burial will follow at Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harris Funeral Home.

Margaret Love
BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Mrs. Margaret Baber Love, 94, of 308 W. Cherokee St., died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A native of Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mammie Riviere Baber. She was a retired owner of and operator of Love Insurance Company. She was a member, choir member, and Sunday school teacher at Saint John United Methodist Church, a member of Maid and Matron Book Club-Hospital Auxillary, worked with Red Cross and the American Legion Auxillary and organized Junior Maid and Matron Book Club.
She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth L. Flynn of the home; one son, Dr. Charles W. Love of McCall, S.C.; one sister, Frances Whitener of Blacksburg; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Saint John United Methodist Church with the Revs. Joe Brown and Roger Linder officiating.
Burial will follow at Mountainview Cemetery. Joel Cheek, Alan Love, Charles Love Jr., Donald Flynn, Patrick Flynn, Blake Barr, Bud Killian, and Leonard Jones will serve as pallbearers.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
The family will receive friends Friday night from 7 to 9 at Gordon Mortuary.

Joyce Keener
SHELBY - Mrs. Joyce Higgins Keener, 72, of 1534 North Post Road, died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at Hospice at Wendover.
Born in Caldwell County, she was a daughter of the late William Wheeler Higgins and Elsie Mae Lail Higgins Sigmon. She was a Baptist and was retired from Rose's Department Store.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, James Higgins and Fonis Higgins.
She is survived by two sisters, Inez H. Pearson of Shelby and Charlotte Dugger of Hickory; 10 nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Gail Lail of Shelby; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
A graveside funeral will be Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Belleview Cemetery in Lenoir.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, N.C. 28150.

Clyde Merck
BOSTIC - Mr. Clyde C. Merck, 73, of 757 Old U.S. 74 Highway, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, at his home.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church, with the Rev. Chris Masters and Joe Mack Skinner officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Padgett & King Mortuary.

Ruth Skipper
HENRIETTA - Mrs. Ruth Smart Skipper, 81, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, at Oakland Living Center in Rutherfordton.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Harrelson Funeral Home, with the Revs. Wallace Smith and Ricky Poteat officiating. Burial will be at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Harrelson Funeral Home in Caroleen.

Mary Burns
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Mary Delorise Childres Burns, 65, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Russell and Annie Bell Childres. She was a homemaker and a member of Martin Street United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, P.G. Childres and Melton Childres.
She is survived by her husband, Claude Lee Burns; a son, Russell E. Burns of Clover, S.C.; a daughter, Mary Frances Burns Smith of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Irette Hamrick of Shelby and Frances Allen of Cherryville; and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Lutz-Austell Funeral Home, with the Rev. David Waldrop officiating. The body will be placed in the chapel 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be at Sunset Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Julia LaForge
FOREST CITY - Mrs. Julia LaForge, 88, died Saturday, April 22, 2000.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Padgett & King Mortuary.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday.

John Newton
SHELBY - Mr. John Wayne Newton, 59, of 5309 Spring Lane, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Rutherford County May 26, 1940, he was the son of Roy Everette and Ollie Irene Lawson Newton of Marion. He served four years in the Air Force and retired from PPG Industries as a fixer. He attended Immanuel Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kayla Newton.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Joyce Faye Philbeck Newton of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Stephen and Leigh Anne Newton of Kings Mountain and Michael Newton of the home; five brothers and sisters-in-law, Bobby and Elaine Newton of Charleston, S.C., Leonard and Wanda Newton of Crestview, Fla., James and Diane Newton of Warner Robins, Ga., Chuck and Betty Newton of Mooresboro, and Roger and Rachel Newton of Prattsville, Ala.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Annie Blanton, and Bill and Linda Newton Wright of Shelby; a special niece, Carolyn Newton of Polkville; a special nephew, Jeremy Gowan of Blacksburg, S.C.; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ray and Carolyn Philbeck of Earl, Ed and Colleen Philbeck of Kings Mountain, Lillian Summers of Shelby and Betty Estes of Blacksburg.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Clay-Barnette Funeral Home, with the Revs. Barry Philbeck and Jim Rice officiating. Burial will be at Clingman Memorial Gardens in Blacksburg.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home, and at other times at the home.

Sherry Graham
NEWTON - Mrs. Sherry Hands Graham, 38, of 1504 Mt. Olive Church Road, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Paul Hands and Lennie McMullens Duncan. She was employed at Piedmont Village Nursing Home. She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Graham; and her grandfather, Jessie Hands.
She is survived by a son, Nevin Tremayne Hands of the home; a daughter, Lavonda Shauntae Connor of Hickory; five brothers, Nathaniel Wright and Jarrod Duncan, both of Hickory, Emanuel Wright of Conover, Lloyd Wright of Newton, and Steve Peeler of Durham; five sisters, Crystal Wright, Fannie Forney, Paulette Summers, Linda Wright, and Frances Duncan, all of Newton; her grandmother, Eunice Hands of Lawndale; two aunts, Dianne Smith of Newton and Issie Haynes of Lawndale; three uncles, James McMullens of Newark, Ohio, Bobby McMullens, and Joseph McMullens, both of Lawndale; her stepfather, Willie "Bo" Duncan of Newton; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness with Brother Kyle Hoffman officiating.
Burial will follow at a later date.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Allen Mitchell Funeral Home.

SHELBY - Mr. Kip Lee Dorsey, 33, of 442 Monroe St., died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at his home.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Enloe Mortuary.

SHELBY - Mr. Julian Lee "J.L." Morehead, Jr., 57, of 914 Mt. Sinai Church Road, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at Carolinas Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of Julian L. Sr. and Vernie Morrison Morehead of Shelby. He was the retired Vice-President of Morrison Construction Company and was a sportsman.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Janice Moss Morehead of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Angela Morehead and David Williams of Morganton and Nicole Morehead and Paul Wright of Shelby; a brother and sister-in-law, Craig and Evelyn Morehead of Shelby; a sister and brother-in-law, Ann Morehead and Tony Hicks of Anderson, S.C.; a grandson, Justin Williams; a granddaughter, Sarah Wiliams; a niece; and two nephews.
The funeral will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Lohr officiating.
Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home and other times at the home.

SHELBY - Mr. William Harvey Andrew Lankford, 85, of 1015 Allendale Drive, died Tuesday, April 25, 2000, at White Oak Manor in Shelby.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Gazebo at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home with full masonic rites.

Thomas Philbeck
AIKEN, S.C. - Mr. Thomas Edward Philbeck, 86, of Whitehall Place, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at his home.
A native of Lawndale, he was the son of the late John A. and Cora Eshridge Philbeck. He was a graduate of North Carolina State University with a B.S. degree in chemical engineering. He was a retired chemical engineer with DuPont at the Savannah River Plant and was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Edna Whisnant Philbeck of the home; a son, Thomas Edward Philbeck II, of Aiken; and a brother, J.A. Philbeck Jr.
The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church with the Revs. Shelia D. Rogers and Kenneth L. Nelson officiating.
Burial will follow at Bethany Cemetery in Aiken.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at Rivers Funeral Home.

GAFFNEY, S.C. - Danny Levon Sides, died Wednesday, April 12, 2000.
A memorial service was held Saturday, April 15, 2000, at 4 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses on Cannons Campground Road in Spartanburg with Earl Buckson officiating.

Bryte Brooks
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Bryte Glascoe Brooks, 82, of White Oak Manor, formerly of 316-4 Lamar Avenue, Shelby, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at White Oak Manor in Kings Mountain.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late D.J. Sr. and Cora Lee Street Glascoe. She was a retired registered nurse with Manufactures Health Clinic in Winder, Ga. and was a member of Beaver Dam Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Clifford Samuel Barber; her second husband, Dorice Irvin Brooks; a brother, D.J. Glascoe Jr.; and three sisters, Faye McGinnis, Pearl Hamrick, and Foy Riggins.
She is survived by a step-son and step-daughter-in-law, Robert and Susan Brooks of Shuford; a step-daughter, Gay Mertz of Shelby; a brother and sister-in-law, W.B. and Bernice Glascoe of Shelby; two sisters, Evelyn Redding of Archdale and Ola Lee McGinnis of Greensboro; a sister-in-law, Shirley Glascoe of Shelby; and five step-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Ken Pruitt and Dr. Paul Sorrells officiating.
Burial will follow at Beaver Dam Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Carl Reynolds
GAFFNEY, S.C. - Carl Reynolds, 70, of 109 Sunset Drive, died Friday, April 28, 2000, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.
A native of Kings Mountain, he was the son of the late Christy S. and Lillie Eaker Reynolds. He was a graduate of Cecil Business College and owner of Clean Line Services. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in Gaffney. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict as a medic.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Colin Reynolds, Thomas Reynolds and Roy Reynolds.
He is survived by his wife, Benita Blanton Reynolds; three sons, C. Timothy Reynolds of Fountain Inn, S.C., Gary Dean Harvey of Westminister, S.C. and Terry Lewis Harvey of Gaffney, S.C.; two daughters, Deborah Ann Vick of Batavia, N.Y. and Donna Jean Byars of Tampa; two brothers, Floyd W. Reynolds and James Edward Reynolds, both of Kings Mountain; two sisters, Sarah R. Grayson of Greensboro and Colleen R. Tate of Kings Mountain; and eight grandchildren.
The funeral will Sunday at 3 p.m. at Central Baptist Church in Gaffney, with the Rev. Alan Peeler officiating. Burial will follow at Grover City Cemetery in Grover.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at White Columns Funeral Service in Gaffney.
Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church Building Fund, 501 E. Montgomery St., Gaffney, S.C. 29340.

Dorothy Cole
CHARLOTTE - Mrs. Dorothy Pat Campbell Cole, 65, of Charlotte, died Friday, April 28, 2000, at Presbyterian Hospital.
Born Sept. 19, 1934, in Sulphur Springs, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Patterson Bailey and Vera Ellis Gafford Campbell. She received a degree in speech therapy from North Texas State University. She was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She is survived by her husband, Marvin Thomas Cole; a daughter, Catherine Hendren Cole of Shelby; and a son, Paul Campbell Cole of Charlotte.
A graveside service will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Forest Lawn West Mausoleum with the Rev. Larry Kimel officiating.
The family will receive friends at the cemetery after the service.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 500 E. Morehead St., Suite 211, Charlotte, N.C. 28202.
Hankins and Whittington-Dilworth Chapel are in charge of arrangements.
