White Payne
CLIFFSIDE - Mrs. White Moore Payne, 96, of Chesterfield Road, died Sunday, May 7, 2000, at her son's residence in Ormond Beach, Fla.
A native of Gaston County, she was the daughter of the late Clint and Ida White Moore. She was a homemaker and a member of Cliffside Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, D. Howard Payne Sr.
She is survived three sons, R.G. Moore of Cliffside, D.H. Payne Jr. of Ormond Beach, Fla. and Richard Lewis Payne of Dallas; two stepdaughters, Eloise Mabry of Kings Mountain and Lillian Whitworth of Bessemer City; two brothers, Fred Moore and T.C. Moore, both of Shelby; eight grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home with the Rev. William A. Stroud officiating. A graveside service will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Bessemer City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at the funeral home.
Joseph Kirkman
SPINDALE - Mr. Joseph Perry Kirkman, 72, of 1813 Spindale St., died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
A graveside service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Spindale City Cemetery with the Rev. Rick Brewer officiating.

Carl Wade
BESSEMER CITY - Mr. Carl Lee Wade, 57, of 917 West Virginia Ave., died Friday, May 5, 2000, at his home.
He was the son of the late Coy Adams and Bubba Wade. He retired from Terrell Wilson Construction Company after serving 41 years.
He is survived by his wife, Mattie Wade of Charlotte; two daughters and one son-in-law, Coy Wade of Charlotte and Tillie and Jesse Cuthbertson of Mobile, Ala.; eight sons and three daughters-in-law, Steve Wade, Anthony and Sonya Wade, Wayne and Bridgett Wade, all of Charlotte, Carl Dean Wade and Carlos Gamble, both of Kings Mountain, Eddie Hurton and Shawn Hurton, both of Bessemer City, and Mr. and Mrs. Freddie Graham of Gastonia; five sisters, Mary Chisholm and Lorina Potts, both of Charlotte, Nancy Bell and Mabel Wade, both of Kings Mountain, Aline and the Rev. Albert Smith of Kannapolis; two brothers, Billy Wade and William Wade, both of Kings Mountain; 18 grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins and relatives.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Withrow's Funeral Home with the Rev. James McClain officiating. Burial will follow at Vantine Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home and other times at the home.
Willie Clark
SHELBY - Mr. Willie Clark, 81, of 606 Poplar St., died Friday, May 5, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
He was the son of the late Will Henderson and Laney Clark. He retired from Bridges Barbecue Lodge after 17 years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Irene Hampton, Clara Clark and Juanita Petty.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita Hoyle Clark of Shelby; one duaghter, Benita Geneva Tidwell of Orange, N.J.; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Cephus Clark, Wilbert and Teresa Clark and Wendell and Geraldine Clark, all of Shelby; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and relatives.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Philadelphia Methodist Church in Lawndale with the Rev. Roger Hunter officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family wil receive friends 30 minutes before the service and at other times at the home, 606 Poplar St., Shelby.

MOORESBORO - Mrs. Esta Henderson Rollins Ledbetter, 93, died Monday, May 8, 2000, at Rutherford Hospital.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Broad River Baptist Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Beulah McNeilly
SHELBY - Mrs. Beulah Selina Smawley McNeilly, 96, of 1404 N. Lafayette St., formerly of 200 Grady McNeilly Road, Casar, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center.
A native of Rutherford County, born on June 9, 1903, she was the daughter of the late Issac Phillip and Janie Letty Turner Smawley. She was a homemaker and a member of Corinth Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for 50 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Grady McNeilly; a son, Maynard McNeilly; and three brothers, Maurice Smawley, Dewitt Smawley and Errol Smawley.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Pat and Tommy Bowen of Casar and Lourene and Fred Rigsbee of Inman, S.C.; a daughter, Ruby Short of Casar; four sisters, Levonia Harris of Shelby, Winifred Allen of Polkville, Lona Mae Hunt of Casar, Betty Short of Polkville; a grandson, Mark Rigsbee of Chapel Hill; four granddaughters, Sondra Earl of Casar, Pamela Ivester of Shelby, Rhonda Dixon of Casar and Sylvia Woods of Roebuck, S.C.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Corinth Baptist Church with the Rev. Norris Willis officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.

Joe Scruggs
BELMONT - Mr. Joe Scruggs, 75, of 120 Moore Drive, died Monday, May 8, 2000, at his home.
A native of Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Claude H. and Aquilla Hamrick Scruggs. He retired in 1984 as a foreman with Duke Power Company and was a member of Stowe Memorial Baptist Church. He served with the Merchant Marines during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Aldridge Scruggs; a daughter, June Scruggs of Columbia, S.C.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Meredith J. and Pat Scruggs of Belmont, Anthony and Kathy Scruggs of Gastonia and Roger and Wanda Scruggs of Belmont; a brother, Harry Scruggs of Cliffside; two sisters, Ruth Porter of Elizabethtown and Grace Pick of Spartanburg; four grandchildren, Matthew J. Scruggs, Wendy Gibson, Sophie Scruggs and Sarah Scruggs; two great-grandchildren, Bridgette Gibson and Sierra Gibson; and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Friday at 4 p.m. at Stowe Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert McMahan officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

Lucy Williamson
SHELBY - Mrs. Lucy Falls Williamson, 98, of Cleveland Pines Nursing Center, died Monday, May 8, 2000 at Cleveland Pines Nursing Center.
A native of Cleveland County, born May 9, 1901, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Lula Falls. She was a teacher and a homemaker. She was a member of Double Springs Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Williamson; a son, Dan E. Williamson; two brothers; and three sisters.
She is survived by three sons, Donald E. Williamson, Alfred H. Williamson and John Williamson Jr., all of Shelby; a daughter, Frieda W. Jackson of Taylorsville; a brother, Bob Falls of Shelby; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at 3 p.m. at Cleveland Funeral Services Chapel with the Rev. Eddie Brackett officiating. The body will be placed in the chapel one hour before the service.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

SHELBY - Mrs. Sara Lucille Gordon Moore, 81, of 145 Valentine Drive, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late John Robert and Minnie Pearl Huffsteler Gordon. She retired from motel management in Cherry Grove, S.C. and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley D. Moore; a son, George Robert "Bob" Moore and a sister, Ethel Mae Calvert.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Billie Ann and Russell Hoyle of Shelby; a daughter-in-law, Louise Moore of Martin, Ga.; three sisters, Virginia Hale of Grover, Edith Cobb and Peggy Guin, both of Shelby; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Dr. Pat Correll and Dr. James Richardson officiating. The body will be placed in the chapel 30 minutes before the service.
Burial will follow at Cleveland Memorial park.

Charlie Robbins
SHELBY - Mr. Charlie Roy Robbins, 63, of 2206 Charlie Elliott Road, died Wednesday, May 10, 2000, at his home.
A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late James Floyd and Irene Head Robbins. He was retired from Schneider Mills and worked at Esther Mill for 40 years. He was a member of Community Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Elmore.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Toy and Pam Robbins of Lawndale; two daughters and a son-in-law, Sherry and Mark Ledbetter of Shelby and Leslie Neal of Forest City; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Jim and Jane Robbins of Shelby and James Edward Robbins of Marion; a sister and brother-in-law, Jeannette and Charles Nalley of Shelby; four grandsons, Rodney Keith Goins, Chris Allen Robbins, Shannon Ledbetter and Cody Neal; and four granddaughters, Megan Goins, Amber Neal, Jessica Neal and Brittney Ledbetter; one great-grandson, Evan Walker; and three great-granddaughters, Maykaylia Goins, Maykeylia Goins and Krista Goins.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Community Baptist Church with the Revs. Pete Bridges and Alan Sailors officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

A native of Redjacket, W. Va., she was the daughter of the late Joe and Bertha Price Salyers. She was an employee of Subway in Cherryville.
She is survived by her husband William Frankie Ball of Cherryville; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Frankie and Ashlie Ball of Kings Mountain and Shane Ball and his fiancee, Tammie Hegler of Bessemer City; two daughters and a son-in-law, Machelle and Roy Jones of Thorpe, W. Va. and Jessica Ball of Cherryville; and six grandchildren, Roy Jones III, Alexa Jones, Trista Jones, Nicholas Jones, Dylan Ball, and Stacey Ball.
