TERRE-BLANCHE
TAYLORS, S.C. -- The Rev. Mark Edward Terre-Blanche, 28, of 30 E. Darby Road, Taylors, S.C., formerly or Williamsport, Pa., died Saturday, September 18, 1999 after being stricken while jogging near his home. He and his wife, the former Stacia M. Liddick, observed their eighth wedding anniversary June 26. He was a counselor with Miracle Hill Ministries, Greenville, S.C. He also served as chaplain for the 457th Chemical Battalion, U.S. Army Reserves, Greenville, S.C. He was a 1988 graduate of Williamsport Area High School. He graduated from Bob Jones University, Greenville, S.C., with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Bible in 1992, a Master of Arts degree in Theology in 1994, and a Master of Divinity degree in 1997. He was ordained November 2, 1997 into the Gospel Ministry by the Tabernacle Baptist Church in Williamsport. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church. He was an associate member of Hampton Park Baptist Church, Greenville, S.C., where he was active in various church activities. He enjoyed reading and hunting. Born September 22, 1970 in St. Louis, he was a son of the Rev. Henry and Marsha Craig Terre-Blanche. Surviving in addition to his wife of the home and parents of Williamsport, Pa., are two sons, John Mark Terre-Blanche and Jesse Sheldon Terre-Blanche both of the home; a brother, Paul C. Terre-Blanche of Williamsport, Pa.; and a sister, Rebecca A. Shover of Durban, South Africa. Funeral services were held Thursday, September 23, 1999 at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Williamsport, Pa. with burial in Buchanan Cemetery in Williamsport, Pa. His father, Rev. Henry Terre-Blanche officiated. The family of Rev. WILLIAMS
Mr. Benjamin Dexter Williams, of 1510 Diggs Blvd. was born July 7, 1941 in Winston-Salem, N.C. to the late Benjamin Lee and Martha Williams. He was a native and lifelong resident of Winston-Salem where he attended the public schools and was a 1961 graduate of Atkins High School. Mr. Williams was a former employee of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company and an avid student in the martial arts before his health declined. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Tommie Boler, Jr. He departed this life on Wednesday, September 22, 1999 at an early hour at his residence. WE WILL MISS HIS HUMOR, HIS SMILE, AND HIS SERENITY. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 27, 1999 at 1:00 p.m. from the chapel of Hooper Funeral Home with Rev. William M. Jones, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service (12:00-1:00 p.m.) at the funeral home. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Valmetta ''Val'' Williams of the home; one daughter, Crystal Williams Boler of Woodbridge, Va.; three grandsons, Tommie Boler III, Benjamin Boler, and Christopher Boler, all of Woodbridge, Va.; one sister, Marjorie Williams Burris of Winston-Salem; three aunts, Theoline Carter, Hazel Hollingsworth, and Mabel Dixon, all of Winston-Salem; two uncles, Irving (Rebecca) Scott of Winston-Salem and Lester (Ruth) Clark of Elmira, New York; five sisters-in-law, Patricia Dodd, Andrea Brannon, and Gayle Jones all of Kernersville, N.C., Deborah (Samuel) Watson and Jenifer Hill all of Winston-Salem; one brother-in-law, Rev. William (Annatoria) Jones, Jr. of Kernersville; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. ADVANCE -- Mr. James (Jim) Robert Yost, 89, of Advance, died Thursday, September 23, 1999 at Meadowbrook Terrace of Davie. An avid ham radio operator for more than 40 years, he retired from Western Electric in 1972 as a senior engineer. His career took him to may foreign countries and cities in the United States. Survivors include his wife, Nancy S. Yost; two duaghters, Vicki Cartner of Woodleaf and Judy Lynn Wolfe of Nantucket, MA; a son, Bob Yost of Bellingham, WA; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A graveside memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 26, 1999 at Rose Cemetery in Mocksville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the flood victims in eastern North Carolina.

HAMPTONVILLE -- Mr. Carl J. Cranfill, 78, of Windsor Road, Hamptonville, N.C., died Thursday, September 23, 1999 at Hoots Memorial Hospital. He was born March 4, 1921 to the late D. Manless and Lou C. Doss Cranfill. He retired from Thomasville Furniture Company and attended St. Paul United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, William, Henry, Roscoe, and Finley Cranfill. Surviving are his wife of ten years, Mrs. Edna T. Cranfill of the home; two daughters, Tina Sue Cranfill of Ronda and Regina (Billy) Renegar of Boonville; three sons, David (Brenda) Cranfill of Hayes, Ricky (Margaret) Cranfill of Boonville, and Gary (Debbie) Cranfill of Yadkinville; two sisters, Callie Leonard of East Bend and Katie (James) Douglas of Yadkinville; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three step-children, Sarah (Marshall) Jordan of Hamptonville, Shonnie (John) Thompson of Elkin, and Earl (Kaye) Tolbert of Union Grove; twelve step-grandchildren; eighteen step great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Polly Cranfill of Boonville. A funeral service will be held Sunday, September 26, 1999 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Officiated by Rev. Katherine Earley, Rev. Bill Cummings, Rev. Shonnie Thompson, and Rev. James Finney. Mr. Cranfill will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be in Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. TOBACCOVILLE -- Mrs. Elsie Smith Hendrix, 88, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, widow of Harmon Kelly Hendrix, of 4705 Rolling Hill Drive, Tobaccoville, N.C., died Thursday, September 23, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. Mrs. Hendrix was born in Stokes County October 13, 1910 to William Anderson and Arbella Ann Venable Smith. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Grove Primitive Baptist Church. In her early life, she played the piano in a quartet at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Hendrix Crews and husband, Robert of Tobaccoville; one son and daughter-in-law, William A. (Bud) Hendrix and wife, Gaynell of Tobaccoville; one daughter-in-law, Ada Hendrix of North Wilkesboro; four grandchildren, Nancy Robin Crews of Tobaccoville, William (Billy) Kelly Hendrix of Tobaccoville, Michelle Ann Hendrix of Tobaccoville, and Wendy Gaye Hendrix Rierson and husband, Chad of Tobaccoville; five great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Annie Sue Griffin of King; and two special friends, Lisa Hendrix of Tobaccoville and Rickey Hunt of Pinnacle. Mrs. Hendrix was preceded in death by one son, Robert S. (Bob) Hendrix, four brothers, and two sisters. JONES
ASHEVILLE -- Rev. James T. Jones, Sr., 83, of 87 Hampton St., died Wednesday, September 22 1999 at a Winston-Salem hospital. He was born in Brown Summit, N.C. to the late Henry and Lucinda Thacker Jones. He graduated from Dudley High School where he was a member of the debating team. He attended A & T State University, was a graduate of Livingstone College, and Hood Theological Seminary. He continued his education at Furman University, Garrett University, and Emory University. Rev. Jones was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and the Reynolds-Miller Chorale. He was an avid sports fan, reader, and lover of music. He began his pastoral career at Epworth Methodist Church, Gastonia. He served as pastor at the following United Methodist churches: Asbury Memorial, Durham; Brooks Memorial, High Point; Berry Temple and Wilson Chapel, Asheville; Saints Home, Winston-Salem; St. James, Rural Hall; and Addies Chapel, Marion. He was a member and held various positions in the Western North Carolina and Central jurisdiction of the United Methodist Church, Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, and United Methodist Ministers Association. After retirement, he maintained his membership at Berry Temple. Rev. Jones was preceded in death by his sisters, Mabel Seville and Estalea Hayes; brothers, Aldean Jones, Rev. Luman Jones, Rev. Elwood Jones, Ruben Jones, and Andrew Jones. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 46 years, Agnes Barber Jones; son, James T. Jones, Jr. of Virginia Beach, Va.; brother, Rev. Fred Jones of Lexington, N.C.; two grandchildren; several nieces; and other relatives and many friends. A funeral service will be held at 12 Noon, Saturday in Asheville at Berry Temple United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Juan Gray officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home. ROBERTS
Edgar Parsons Roberts, of 3 Graylyn Place, died Friday morning, September 24, 1999 after a long illness. He was born September 23, 1923 to William Morsell Roberts and Anne Parsons Roberts in Lynchburg, Virginia. His attendance at the University of Virginia was interrupted by World War II. He served four years in the Navy, mainly in the Pacific with the Seabees. Following the war, he returned to graduate from the University of Virginia, followed by the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Recruited by Wachovia Bank, he moved to Winston-Salem, N.C. in 1951. He retired from the trust department of Wachovia Bank as a Senior Vice President after thirty-four years of service. A lifelong Episcopalian, he served St. Paul's church in numerous ways. He also served the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina as chairman of the investment committee. He was active on the board of the United Way and served for many years on Forsyth County's Board for Forsyth Home, Inc. (Knollwood Hall). He helped get Winston-Salem Tennis, Inc. started and was an early president. He was preceded in death by his brother, William Morsell Roberts, Jr. of Lynchburg, Va. He is survived by his wife, Adele (Della) Watkins Roberts; their children, Edgar Parsons Roberts, Jr. and his wife, Margaret Leckie Roberts of Winston-Salem, Clifford Kent Roberts and his wife, Sara Zwinger Roberts of Portland, Ore., and Adele Roberts Clark of Winston-Salem; and his grandchildren, Margaret Leckie Roberts, Adele Watkins Roberts, Cullen Roberts Clark, and Sally Ann Roberts. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 27, 1999 at Saint Paul's Episcopal Church. GERMANTON -- Ronald D. Schultz, 59, died Thursday, September 23, 1999 at Winston-Salem Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Mr. Schultz was a native of Iowa. He was employed by AMP, Inc. of Greensboro and was a member of Freedom Wesleyan Church of Kernersville. Ronald was a finish carpenter and enjoyed crafting fine furniture. He is survived by his wife, Joane R. Schultz of the home; his son, Ronald D. Schultz of Lexington, N.C.; his father, David Schultz of Minnesota; a sister, Kathy Christsen of Wisconsin; brothers, David, Danny, Roger, and Jerry Schultz all of Minnesota; and grandson, Spencer Meadows of Lexington, N.C. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 28, 1999 at Freedom Wesleyan Church with the Reverend H.A. Lewis officiating. SHAW Mrs. Opal Hammer Shaw, 86, of Jefferson Avenue, died Friday morning, September 24, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday in Rose Cemetery in Mocksville will Rev. Bill Davis officiating. The family will be at Eaton Funeral Home Sunday afternoon for one hour prior to the service. Mrs. Shaw was born October 11, 1912 to George Milton and Martha Lowrence Hammer. She was retired from Western Electric in Winston-Salem and had been a very active member of the CWA Retirees Club. She graduated from the Mocksville High School in 1929 and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mocksville. Surviving is a niece and nephew, Mr. and Mrs. L.K. Dwiggins of Advance; a nephew, Mr. Robert Honeycutt of Greenville, S.C.; a great-niece and nephew, Mr. and Mrs. R.C. Alexander of Kernersville; a great-nephew and niece, Mr. and Mrs. L.K. Dwiggins, Jr. of Hudson, Ohio; a great-nephew, Robert Honeycutt, Jr. of Cornelia, Georgia, and nine great-great-nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hal G. Templeton, 81, of 848 Seven Oaks Road, Boone, died Thursday morning, September 23, 1999 at Watauga Medical Center. Mr. Templeton is survived by his wife, Mrs. Evelyn Royall Templeton of the home; one daughter, Ms. Darlene Templeton of Boone; one son, Hal Templeton of Annapolis, Maryland; three step-sons, Stephen Lyon and wife, Melinda of Burlington, Neil Lyon and wife, Kathy of Traphill, and Michael Lyon and wife, Melinda of North Wilkesboro; three granddaughters, Jennifer Seigler and Ashley Seigler both of Lilburn, Georgia, and Heather Templeton of Charlotte; one grandson, Hal Michael Templeton of Boone; one great-grandson, Taylor Seigler of Lilburn, Georgia; four sisters, Helen Murray and husband, Bill of Boone, Rachel Crawley and husband, Bill of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Mildred Bolick and husband, Coy of Charlotte, and Jean Brady and husband, Charles of Cocoa Beach, Florida; four brothers, James Templeton and wife, Edith of Pilot Mountain, Wilfred Templeton and wife, Ann of Sarasota, Florida, Maurice Templeton and wife, Phyllis, and Phil Templeton and wife, Phyllis all of Boone. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Etta Mae Long Templeton; his father and mother, Huie and Bertha Parker Templeton; and one sister, Mrs. Florence Chambers. Funeral services for Mr. Hal G. Templeton will be conducted Saturday morning at 11:00 o'clock at Union Grove Christian Church in Union Grove. The body will lie instate at the church from 10:00 until 11:00, where the family will receive friends prior to the service. Officiating will be Pastor Allen Lunsford and Rev. J.C. Jones. Military honors and burial will follow at the Union Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 until 9 o'clock at Hampton Funeral Service. He was a decorated World War II veteran serving with the United States Army. Mr. Templeton was a retired bus driver with the Washington, D.C. Transit Authority. He moved to Boone, N.C. in 1970, opened and ran Hal's Highlander Cleaning & Laundry Service for several years. He was a member of the Union Grove Christian Church in Iredell County.
