Robert Paul '`Jack'' Huff, 87, of 734 Mocksville Highway, Statesville, died yesterday. He was born in Yadkin County on Oct. 30, 1913, a son of the late Calvin Huff and Myrtle Bell Huff. He was half owner of Huff Recapping in Statesville. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Monday at Union Chapel Baptist Church in Statesville. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. HUTCHINS
Mr. Hansel Gray Hutchins, 77, of 2800 Pioneer Trail, Winston-Salem died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Yadkinville Aug. 18, 1923, to Loftin Gray Hutchins and Hattie Lewis Hutchins. Mr. Hutchins served with the Army Air Corps during World War II and retired from McLean Trucking Co. in 1980. He was a longtime member of Beck's Baptist Church and the men's Sunday school class. He enjoyed camping and golf. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Cecil Hutchins. Surviving are his wife, Christine Deal Hutchins of the home; two sons, Hansel Gray Hutchins Jr. and wife Patricia of Lexington and Gregory Allen Hutchins and wife Leigh of East Bend; a daughter, Andrea Lynne Soots of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Nicole Long and husband Branden, Heather Hutchins, Jason Payne and wife Melissa and Jami Sink and husband Steven; and two great-grandchildren, Greyson Sink and Tyler Long. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Vogler Reynolda Road Chapel conducted by Dr. Jim Nelson. Interment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. JACINTO
Romulo C. Jacinto, MD, CMD, 66, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001. Dr. Jacinto was born in Laoag City, Philippines, on May 19, 1934, to Agustin Jacinto and Cristina Cruz. Dr. Jacinto served as captain of the U.S. Army Medical Corps in the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1969. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Service Medal with two bronze service stars. He received his medical degree in 1962 from Manila Central University, Philippines. He did his medical internship at R. E. Thomason General Hospital in El Paso, Texas, and his residency at Saint Mary's Hospital in Tucson, Ariz. and at Bataan Memorial Hospital in Albuquerque, NM. He finished his fellowship in pulmonary disease at the Methodist Hospital Cardiopulmonary Institute at Southwestern Medical School at the University of Texas. He practiced at the Veterans Administration Hos-pital in Grand Junction, Colo. and Beckley, W.Va. Since 1975, Dr. Jacinto held his private practice in Winston-Salem, where he practiced internal medicine with a specialization in pulmonary disease and geriatrics. Dr. Jacinto was board certified with the American Board of Internal Medicine. He also received his certificate with added qualifications in geriatric medicine and was a certified medical director. He received the Geriatrics Recognition Award as well as the American Medical Association Physician Recognition Award. He was admitting physician to Forsyth Medical Center for Cross Care, Inc. In addition, he served as the medical director at Pellcare Nursing Home and Britthaven Kernersville Nursing Home. He was also the assistant medical director at the Winston-Salem Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. He was a member of Saint Leo the Great Catholic Church. He was a beloved husband, father, mentor, colleague, physician and friend. He is survived by his wife, Veronica, and four children, Romel of San Francisco, Kathryn of New York City, Randy of Winston-Salem and Christine of Boston; his brother and wife, Alfred and MaryLou Jacinto of El Paso, Texas, and two sisters, Lucy Baria of California and Mary Dalupang of the Philippines. The family wishes to thank his patients and the entire medical community for their kindness and support for 25 years. The Jacinto family will receive friends and family from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, at Vogler & Sons Funeral Home in Clemmons. A military interment service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22 at National Cemetery in Salisbury. JARVIS
Mrs. Louise James Jarvis, 83, died at her home Thursday afternoon. She was born in Guilford County on Oct. 26, 1917, to Edward Luther James and Laura Ziglar James. Most of her life was spent in Winston-Salem, but she had lived in Greensboro in recent years. She was a longtime employee of Bobbitt's Pharmacies and was a member of Northwest Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Nick Jarvis, in 1978; five brothers; and four sisters. Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Lorene J. Holladay of Greensboro and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday at Vogler and Sons Reynolda Road Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Randy McKinney. Interment will be in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the funeral. Mr. Billy Gene Jones, age 68, of 309 Red Brush Road, Mount Airy, husband of Mrs. Betty Long Phillips Jones, passed away on Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem, Mr. Jones was born in Carroll County, Va., on May 26, 1932, son of Mrs. Ida Easter Jones and the late Mr. Chester Jones. Mr. Jones was a retired banker with Equity One, a veteran of the U. S. Army and member of Temple Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Betty Long Phillips Jones of the home; two stepsons, Randy Phillips of Mount Airy and Tracy Phillips of Cana, Va.; a stepson by a previous marriage, Chuck Phillips of Clemmons; three stepgrandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Ida Easter Jones of Mount Airy; two sisters, Hilda Templeton of Statesville, Sadie Trivette of Winston-Salem; a brother, Buddy Jones of King; and several nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at Temple Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Teague Groce and the Rev. Jimmy Hensin. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. His body will remain at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy until time to be taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes before the service.

While raining Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, as if tears were falling from Heaven, our loving mother went home to be with the Lord. Mrs. Ollie Baber Krupel, 77, a resident of Village Care in King died at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born Jan. 22, 1923, in Appomattox, Va., to Richard H. and Martha Ann Franklin Baber. Mrs. Krupel was of the Baptist faith. Her husband, Edwin E. '`Edggie'' Krupel, preceded her in death. Survivors include six children, Roger D. Krupel and wife Geney, Suzanne Taylor, Janette Kizer, Ricky W. Krupel, Cookie Krupel and Michael S. Krupel and wife Dee all of Winston-Salem; nine grandchildren, Eddie and Lisa Taylor, Tim Krupel, Angela Stark, Rex and Greg Krupel, Kelly Morton and Jason and Joshua Krupel; six great-grandchildren; four sisters, Lugenia Norman, Mary Page and Lucy Jenkins all of Lynchburg, Va., and Juanita Heflin of Fredericksburg, Md.; a brother, Garland Pete Baber of Lynchburg; and two sisters-in-law, Gaynell Hudnall of Forest, Va., and Thelma Baber of Lynchburg. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Vogler & Sons Main Street Chapel, Winston-Salem by the Rev. Darrell Love. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. MICKEY
EASTON, Md. - Paul Fogle Mickey Sr., 86, a longtime Washington lawyer, died at his home in Easton on January 18, 2001, from complications related to Parkinson's Disease. Born Sept. 3, 1914, in Winston-Salem, he was the son of the late Edward T. and Ada Fogle Mickey. He received both his AB and LLB from the University of North Carolina. From 1937 to 1939, he worked as assistant to the attorney general of North Carolina. He came to Washington in 1939 and spent seven years as a special attorney with the tax division in the Department of Justice, interrupted in 1945 by service in the Office of Military Government in Berlin. He joined Steptoe & Johnson in 1947 and worked there for 31 years until his retirement in 1978. He served several years as the firm's managing partner and specialized in tax, administrative, and international trade law, and worked during the latter part of his career on cases involving the American watch industry, the building of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline, and the importation of foreign steel. Mr. Mickey was a member of the Metropolitan Club and the Chevy Chase Club, where he served as vice president of the board. In Easton, he was a member of the Chesapeake Bay Yacht Club, the Talbot Country Club, and served on the board of the Historical Society of Talbot County. Mr. Mickey and his wife of 57 years, the former Margaret Stanley, enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating, and lived for two years in the Outer Banks of North Carolina before moving to Easton to live on the Tred Avon River. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Margo King-Steiner of Boulder, Colo., Paul F. Mickey Jr. of Washington, D.C. and Frank T. Mickey of Bethesda, Md.; a brother, Joseph H. Mickey of Winston-Salem; a sister, Mary Louise Simon of New York; and five grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at Christ Church, 111 S. POPE
Mrs. Eula Chafon Lambeth Everhart Pope, 91, formerly of 204 Moravian St., Wilkesboro died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at The Villages of Wilkes in North Wilkesboro. She was born July 6, 1909, in Winston-Salem to the late Ruth Ann Hartle and Thomas Miller Lambeth. Mrs. Pope married Arther Grady Everhart on Oct. 26, 1925, and lived on South Main Street in Winston-Salem until 1970. Mr. Everhart died in 1972. She later married Ira R. Pope of Winston-Salem in 1975; he died in 1988. She was a lifelong member of Hopewell Moravian Church where she was very active and served in several offices of the church. While in Wilkesboro she attended Wilkesboro Baptist Church; there she was a member of the Solo's and Primetimers. She attended Reynolds High School and was employed at RJR Tobacco Co. for 44 years retiring in 1970. Mrs. Pope was an avid flower gardener and cook. Wherever there was an opportunity or a need she was always willing to use her gifts to care for others. She was also preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Ruth Lambeth and three brothers, Houston Lambeth, Ray Lambeth and Harold Lambeth. Surviving are a daughter, Wilma Lovette and husband Pete of Wilkesboro; a granddaughter, Lynn Sazama and husband Shawn of Southern Pines; a grandson, Mark Lovette and wife Lynn of Lititz, Pa.; great-grandchildren Patrick and Laura Sazama of Southern Pines and John and Charles Lovette of Lititz; 15 nieces and nephews; a sister, Mary Beshears of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Bill Lambeth of Carolina Beach and Don Lambeth of Winston-Salem; stepchildren Charlotte Leach, Bobby Pope, Wilburn Pope, Wayne Pope and Fay Goolsby of Winston-Salem and Terry Pope of Raleigh. Funeral Services will be Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at 11 a.m. at Hopewell Moravian Church by the Rev. Jeff Carter and the Rev. Jack Nance. Burial will be in the church graveyard. SANDY RIDGE - Dollie Oakley Scales, 72, of 1694 Phillips Road died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2001, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Her funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at Delta United Methodist Church in Sandy Ridge. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Scales was born March 2, 1928, to the late Jetter Troy Oakley and Medley Wilkins Oakley of Stokes County. She was a member of Delta United Methodist Church and was retired from R.J. Reynolds Industries. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Charlie Scales of the home; a daughter, Norma Scales Helms of Matthews; granddaughter Melissa Helms; grandson Christopher Helms of Matthews; sister Melba O. Gann and husband Danny of Madison; and brother William Louis Oakley and wife Mary Evelyn of Lewisville. KERNERSVILLE - Mrs. Daisy Holt Simmons, 95, went to be with the Lord Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001. She was born Dec. 28, 1905, in Stokes County to Ed and Betty Holt. She was a member of the Kernersville Friends Meeting and was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Simmons. Surviving are three daughters, Dorothy Norman, Betty Joyce, and Peggy and husband Roger Parrish, all of Kernersville; 11 grandchildren, Donnie Norman (Wanda), Jimmy Norman (Delores), Clement Norman (Linda), Judy Whicker (Joe), Shannon Cramer (Steve), Sue Idol (Jimmy), Pat Tilley (Mike), Wendy Jones (Greg), Kim Whicker (Alan), Diane Williams (Don) and Debbie Lane; 19 great-grandchildren; a stepgreat-grandchild; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and her neighbors and friends she loved very much. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Kernersville Friends Meeting by the Rev. Paul Williamson and the Rev. Myron Leonhard. Burial will follow in the Eastlawn Gardens of Memory.
