YADKINVILLE -- Mr. Robert H. Loftis, 79, of Hardy Road, died Sunday, October 24, 1999 at Elkin Healthcare Center. He was born April 27, 1920 in Clarksville, Va. Mr. Loftis was retired from Poindexter Lumber Company and was a member of Shuggarttown Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Hutchens Loftis, on February 21, 1990; and two sons, Tony and Paul Loftis. He is survived by one sister, Lucille Rickman, of Clarksville, Va.; two grandchildren, Arlene (John) Cooper and Angela (Vincent) Connoly, all of Salisbury; one great grandchild, Simon Connoly; a stepson, Gerald (Carol) Hutchens, of Hamptonville; a stepdaughter, Glenda (Danny) Rominger, of Winston-Salem; four step grandsons, Keith Rominger and Jeff, Eddie, and Joey Hobson; four step great grandchildren, Raven Davis and Trent, Paige, and Dillon Hobson; and a very special friend, Ruth Ashley. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 2 at Shuggarttown Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. W.B. Brawley. The body will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Monday at Gentry Family Funeral Service on Hwy 601 North of Yadkinville.
MILLER
CHESAPEAKE, Va. -- On Wednesday, October 27, 1999 at Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, VA., God took a ray of his sunshine back to heaven, and Mrs. Tarsha Love Miller, of 700 Johnstown Road, Chesapeake, Va., went home. Tarsha was born in Winston-Salem on April 27, 1965 to Deatra Love and Charles Gardner. She graduated from North Forsyth High School in 1983. She attended A & T State University for two years prior to enlisting in the United States Navy. Tarsha served in the U.S. Navy for twelve years until she medically retired in November of 1998. She was an active member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Chesapeake, Va. and Holy Trinity Full Gospel Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving and devoted husband, Minister Richard C. Miller, Jr.; and niece, Yveathus Love, both of the home; her mother, Deatra (Robert) Lynch; her father, Charles (Brenda) Gardner; her grandmother, Mrs. Allie Love; her grandmother-in-law, Mrs. Sarah Miller; in-laws, Pastors Richard C. (Ernestine) Miller, Sr., of Winston-Salem, Christine (Samuel) Denson, of Maryland; two sisters, Venus Love and Tonya Lynch; two brothers, Charles Love and Kevin Gardner; one stepsister, Ashante Lowery; four sisters-in-law, Olympeia (Rick) Howell, Valeria, Trenia, and Aquilla Miller; one brother-in-law, Minister Joseph (Nicole) Miller; four nieces; and five nephews, all of Winston-Salem; three devoted friends, Joyce (Casseaus) Nelson, Bernita (Tony) Thompson, and Leslie (Demetrius) Stitmon, all of Virginia; her favorite Buncos Buddies of Virginia; and many aunts; uncles; cousins; relatives; and friends. Homegoing services will be held Tuesday, November 2, 1999 at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Full Gospel Baptist Church, with Minister Richard C. Miller, Sr. presiding. PHILLIPS
Mr. Marvin Edgar Phillips, 69, of Perryman Road, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 1999 at his residence. He was born March 9, 1930 in Forsyth County to the late Arthur Columbus and Mattie Ruth Thomason Phillips. Mr. Phillips was retired from Douglas Battery and was currently employed with Bob King Mazda. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his wife, Cloie Wishon Phillips, in 1993; and a sister, Joyce Annette Phillips Looper. Surviving are two daughters, Melonie P. Holcomb and husband, James. R., of Clemmons and Lori P. Sprinkle and husband, Keith B., of King; two sons, Allen Marvin Phillips, of Winston-Salem and Timothy Lee Phillips and wife, Sherry, of Clemmons; four grandchildren; and one great granddaughter; two sisters, Mildred Mae Goins, of Richmond, Va. and JoAnn Miles, of Florence, S.C.; and a brother, Glenn A. Phillips, of Winston-Salem. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 2 at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
SCHUYLER
Mrs. Margaret Cline Schuyler, 81, formerly of Rural Hall, died Sunday, October 31, 1999 at Silas Creek Manor in Winston-Salem after a period of declining health. Mrs. Schuyler was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Gleaves Boyd Schuyler, in 1982. She was born in Forsyth County on May 4, 1918, the daughter of the late Thomas and Agnes Wall Cline. Mrs. Schuyler was a member of First Baptist Church of Rural Hall and was a charter member of the Crickets Nest in Winston-Salem. Surviving are three daughters, Elaine Wyshak, of Greensboro, Sue Poore, of Mt. Airy, and Kay and John Honiss of Greensboro; five sons, John and Lydia Schuyler, of Edenton, Ron and Carolyn Schuyler, of Winston-Salem, Tom and Ann Schuyler, of Buford, Ga., Gleaves and Jean Schuyler, of Greensboro, and Allen and Becky Schuyler, of Charlotte; 10 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Howard, of Greensboro, Geneva Braun and husband, Andy, of Newport News, Va. and Barbara Pressley, of Augusta, Ga.; and several nieces; and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 2, 1999 at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall by Rev. Allen Schuyler and Rev. Bill James. SPRINKLE
Mrs. Hazel Stokes Sprinkle, 81, formerly of S. Peace Haven Road, died Sunday, October 31, 1999. Mrs. Sprinkle was born August 9, 1918 in Forsyth County to the late William Luther and Mary Reavis Stokes. She was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church, a Sunday School teacher, and active in her church as long as health permitted. She was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after 38 years of service. An avid antique collector, Mrs. Sprinkle and her late husband, Clyde, had made many lasting friendships. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Edward Sprinkle; her stepmother, Annie Keaton Stokes; a devoted son-in-law, Steve R. Moser; a great granddaughter, Desiree Dawn Colley; two sisters, Elva Livengood and Katherine Lowder; and three brothers, Numer, Fred, and Marvin Stokes. She is survived by three daughters, Barbara S. Moser, of Lewisville, Clydene S. Sparks and husband, Wayne, of Winston-Salem, and Patricia S. Sellers, of Winston-Salem; six granddaughters, Mellyn Myers, Sherry Sparks, Kristin Sparks, Renee Colley, Kelly Dinger, and Kim Sellers; one grandson, Brian Sellers; four great grandchildren; one step great grandson; and three special sisters-in-law, Mrs. Lillian Sprinkle, Mrs. Kathleen Sprinkle, and Mrs. Mabel Herman. Also surviving are four special friends, Grady and Annette Hite and Pete and Jackie Morefield. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 3, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. at Union Hill Baptist Church by Rev. Timothy Gwyn. Burial will be in the church cemetery. PINNACLE -- Mr. Denver (Dink) Lee Taylor, Sr., age 64, of Route 3, Box 24, husband of Sylvia Lewis Taylor, passed away Sunday, October 31, 1999 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Taylor was born in Surry County on January 29, 1935, son of the late B.H. and Earlene Frans Taylor. He was a retired meat cutter with Harris Teeter, having 32 years of service, and was a member of Pilot Mountain Friends Meeting. Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Lewis Taylor, of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Denver (Denny) Lee Taylor, Jr. and Crystal Taylor, of Pinnacle; one step granddaughter, Ashton Akers, of Strasburg, Va.; one sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Clarence Hines, of Hickory; one brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Margaret Taylor, of Mt. Airy; a special brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Allen and Irene Lewis of Mt. Airy; and a host of friends and neighbors. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 2, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. in Moody Funeral Home Chapel of Mt. Airy. The service will be conducted by Rev. Willie Frye and Rev. WILLIARD
GERMANTON -- Mr. John John Wesley Williard, Jr., 58, of 2520 Caudle St., died Saturday, October 30, 1999 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mr. Williard was born in Forsyth County on April 16, 1941, the son of Mozelle Knight Williard and the late John W. Williard, Sr. Mr. Williard was a faithful and active member of Trinity Moravian Church in Winston-Salem. He was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., with 37 and 1/2 years of service. He had been a volunteer in the Emergency Department at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He served in the U.S. Marines Reserve, and was an avid bass fisherman. Surviving are his loving wife of 32 years, Linda Fansler Williard, of the home; two daughters, Andrea Boles and husband, Michael, of Tobaccoville and Tracy Cardwell and husband, Scott, of King; two beautiful and special grandchildren, Mara and Dylan Boles, of Tobaccoville; his mother, Mozelle Knight Williard, of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Carolyn Boyles, of King and Janie Young and husband, Danny, of Walnut Cove; a special niece, Lisa Boyles, of King; two nephews, Reid and Matt Young, of Walnut Cove; and a very special sister-in-law, Barbara Tilley, of Rural Hall. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 2 at Trinity Moravian Church by Rev. Christopher C. Thore and Rev. Patricia Garner. Burial will follow in God's Acre in Old Salem. BEFUS
Rev. John Befus, 87, of Salemtowne entered into the presence of his Lord Sunday, Oct. 29, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. John, originally from Alberta, Canada, gave much of his life as a missionary in Nicaragua with the Moravian church, serving many congregations and impacting many lives over a 26-year period in that country. He also pastored churches in Canada, Philadelphia and lastly at Fries Memorial Moravian Church in Winston-Salem. Following retirement, John spent many hours visiting those who were homebound or hospitalized from both Fries and Trinity congregations. John's loving family includes his beloved wife of 57 years, Violet Stelter Befus; two sons, the Rev. Gerry Befus and Timothy Befus; a daughter, Ruth Snyder and her husband, John; six grandchildren, Richard Snyder, Randall Snyder (wife Andrea), Gregory Snyder (wife Courtney), Eva Mullinax, Deanna Befus and Michelle Befus; and two great-grandchildren, Lauren and Kathryn Mullinax. The family in Canada includes brothers Gordon, Wilfred and Edward Befus and a sister, Mildred Graham. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fries Memorial Moravian Church with Rev. Stuart Zimmerman officiating. Burial will follow in God's Acre. The family will receive friends after the burial at Fries Memorial Moravian Church. Mrs. Mary Frances Richardson Busby, 85, of Oak Street died Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, at the Brian Center in Salisbury. Mrs. Busby was born Oct. 4, 1915, in Davie County to the late Robert Wesley and Lettie Boyd Richardson . She was married to the late Isaac W. Busby who preceded her in death in 1971. Mrs. Busby is survived by a son, Morgan Earl Smith and wife Gail of Mocksville; two daughters, Mary Jane Smith of Lynnwood and Faye Williams and husband, Darryl of Mocksville; brothers, William Richardson and Clyde Richardson and Shirley Richardson, all of Mocksville and Bobby Richardson of Columbia, S.C.; sisters, Dorothy Smith of Welcome, Louise Swisher of Goldsboro, Ann Schiller and Elizabeth Cale of Norfolk, Va.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive her. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1 at Davie Funeral Service, LLC, 416 Valley Road, Mocksville. A graveside service will be held at Ijames Baptist Church Cemetery at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Thomas Tuggle officiating. SUMMERFIELD -- James P. (J.P.) Crews, 75, of 6728 Brookbank Road died Oct. 30, 2000, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital. Memorial service will be Thursday, Nov. 2, 2000, at 7 p.m. at Forbis and Dick, North Elm Street Chapel. Mr. Crews was born in Kernersville. He was a U.S. Marines veteran of World War II and was a retired pipe fitter. He attended Union Grove Baptist Church. He is survived by his daughters, Lana Stafford of Thomasville, Sharon Scarbrough of Greensboro and Kelly Lattimore of Kernersville; sons, Barry L. Crews of Oak Ridge, Timothy G. Crews of Greensboro and Buzz Crews of Kernersville; a sister, Betty Crews McGee of Kernersville; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas L.
