FOUNTAIN
FITZGERALD, Ga. -- Mr. Robert L. Fountain Sr., 85, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1 at Paulk Funeral Home Chapel, Fitzgerald, with Dr. Gene Wilder and the Rev. Gerald Thomas officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Fitzgerald. Mr. Fountain was born Feb. 8, 1915, in Irwin County, Ga. to H.H. Fountain and Mary Faulkner Fountain. He had lived in Irwin and Ben Hill counties all of his life. Mr. Fountain was a retired conductor with CSX Railroad after 44 years of service, a World War II U.S. Army Corps of Engineers veteran and a member of the Baracca Sunday school class at First Baptist Church. He was also a member of the United Trainmen Union, the Elks Club, the American Legion, Hardee's Coffee Club and a former employee of the Georgia State Police. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Myra N. Fountain of the home; a son, Robert L. ''Bob'' Fountain Jr. of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Marylyn F. Haygood of Macon, Ga.; and four grandchildren.
HARPE
MOCKSVILLE -- Mr. William Anderson ''Bill'' Harpe, 60, of Sunset Drive died Wednesday afternoon at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Eaton Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Charles Bullock and the Rev. Danny Shore officiating. Burial will be in Rose Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home Friday evening from 7 to 9. They request in lieu of flowers, memorials may be considered for the Davie County Chapter of the American Red Cross, 65 Court Square, Mocksville, NC 27028. Mr. Harpe was born in Davie County June 19, 1940, to the late Elbert H. and Hazel Anderson Harpe and had been a salesman with Mocksville Builders Supply for 31 years. He was a member of Mocksville First Baptist Church. He had coached Little League Baseball and was a well known champion skeet shooter. Mr. Harpe was a member of the Home Builders Association, a former member of Mocksville Downtown Revitalization and a graduate of Davie County High School class of 1958. Surviving are his wife, Brenda Day Harpe of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Preston (Jennifer) Neely of Mocksville; a son, William Jeffrey Harpe of Mocksville; a granddaughter, Amber Harpe; and a sister, Judy Harpe of Mocksville.
HOFFMAN
Mr. Edward Robert ''Bob'' Hoffman, 61, born in Winthrop, Mass., died early Thursday morning, Nov. 30, 2000. Bob had lived in Boston, West Palm Beach, Fla. and Winston-Salem. Bob is survived by his wife, Teresa M. Hoffman of Winston-Salem; two daughters, Elizabeth W. Hoffman of West Palm Beach and Heather L. Hoffman of Newton, Mass.; a son, Scott W. Hoffman of West Palm Beach; and a stepdaughter, Tina Lombardi and her husband, John, of Welcome. Bob will be forever remembered for his hard work, generosity, humor, as a provider for his family and for his postive outlook on life. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at Vogler & Sons Clemmons Chapel. The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home. ADVANCE -- Mrs. Mary Rose Frye Joyner, 67, of N.C. Highway 801 S., died Thursday morning at Forsyth Medical Center after a short illness. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the Old Fulton Methodist Episcopal Church, South, with the Rev. Rusty Morrison and the Rev. Kermit Bailey, the Rev. Mark Denton and the Rev. Sue Northcraft officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will be at Eaton Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday. They requests that memorials be considered for the Emergency Food and Medicine Fund, Davie County Department of Social Services, c/o Ms. Karen Smith, P.O. Box 517, Mocksville, NC 27028. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Sunday. Mrs. Joyner was born in Davie County on May 11, 1933, to the late Samuel David and Amanda Waller Frye, and was retired from Ingersoll/Rand with 18 years of service. She was a graduate of the Shady Grove High School in Advance, class of 1951. Mrs. Joyner was a lifelong member of Fulton United Methodist Church; she currently attended the Episcopal Church of the Ascension at Fork. At Fulton Church, she was the church membership secretary for many years. She was a member and coordinator of the Food Closet Committee. Mrs. Joyner was a well-known community volunteer, and was instrumental in the restoration of the Old Fulton Methodist Episcopal Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Harles Joyner on July 30, 1985. Survivors include two sons, David Joyner of the home and Dean Joyner of Clemmons; three grandchildren, Marlena Joyner Parker, Michael Joyner and Ashley Joyner; a sister, Mrs. James (Mildred) Ryan of Advance; and a niece, Mrs. Ernie (Tonia) Harr of Charlotte.
LAKEY
MOCKSVILLE -- Mr. Charlie Hugh Lakey, 69, of Horse Shoe Trail died Thursday at Davie County Hospital. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Eaton Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Darrell Cox and the Rev. Glenn Sellers officiating. Burial will be in Blaise Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Mr. Lakey was born April 14, 1931, in Davie County to the late Hiram Austin and Margaret Todd Lakey. He served in the Korean conflict, was a retired tool and die maker with AMP Inc., and was a member of Blaise Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Dot Hilton Lakey of the home; a daughter, Marsha L. Dayton and husband George of Miami, Fla.; two sons, Douglas H. Lakey and Angela N. Lawrence, and Charles M. Lakey and wife Scarlett, all of Mocksville; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; six stepchildren, Ronnie W. Hilton of the home, L. Keith Hilton of Mocksville, Donna H. Morrison of Mount Ulla, Brenda H. Howell, Robert A. Hilton, Bonnie H. Brown, all of Mocksville; 10 stepgrandchildren; two brothers, Cecil and Clyde Lakey; and two sisters, Ruth Lakey and Dorothy Walker, all of Mocksville. He was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Lakey.

ST. PETE BEACH, Fla. -- Mr. Rudy Moser, 71, died Nov. 27, 2000, at his home. He was formerly of Chestertown, Md., where he was a manager of Stenger True Value Hardware. He had lived in St. Pete Beach since 1980 and retired from True Value Hardware. Mr. Moser was of the Episcopalian faith. He was a member of the Rotary Club, Chestertown, Md., Volunteer AARP -- Driver Safety Training and an active sponser for Children Inc. He was interested in golfing and sailing. Surviving are his wife, Brenda; two sons, John Frederick Moser of Severna Park, Md. and Lawrence Moser of Lynch, Md.; and four grandchildren.

Mrs. Hazel Spach Pruitt, 74, of Winston-Salem died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born May 28, 1926, in Forsyth County to Willis Eugene and Louella Branson Spach. Mrs. Pruitt was a lifelong member of Antioch Baptist Church on Palmer Lane. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reece E. Pruitt. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Vickie Fritts and husband Larry and Ms. Carolyn Zimmerman and special friend Charles Wilder of Winston-Salem; a son, Gary W. Peak and wife Kim of Winston-Salem; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Geraldine Heirs of Summerville, S.C., and Ms. Louise Baugness and family of Shepherds Crossroads; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Helen Yontz of Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Antioch Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bobby Reece and the Rev. Richard Everhart officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. Wanda Osborne Puryear died at her home Nov. 30, 2000. Mrs. Puryear was born March 26, 1932, to Jones E. and Ola Arnold Osborne in Creston. She is survived by her husband, Thomas C. Puryear; two sons, Billy Douglas Puryear Sr. and wife, Deborah, of Winston-Salem and Thomas Christian Puryear of Roanoke Rapids; a grandson Billy Douglas Puryear Jr. of Winston-Salem; a granddaughter, Kristen Puryear of Ohio; a great-granddaughter, Whitney Puryear of Kernersville; two brothers, Bud Osborne of Pennsylvania and Paul Ham of Lansing; and a sister, Margaret Howell of Lansing. A funeral service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Maj. Dan Proctor of the Salvation Army officiating. YADKINVILLE -- Mrs. Rose Smitherman, 91, formerly of Clemmonsville Road, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at Silas Creek Manor in Winston-Salem. She was born Aug. 7, 1909, in Spring Creek township, Iowa, to the late Joseph Scharfel and Mollie Miller Scharfel. Mrs. Smitherman worked as a nursing aide at Hoots Memorial Hospital and with the Boonville school system in the cafeteria. She was married to the late Foy Smitherman, who preceded her in death. Also a son, Robert J. Smitherman, and three sisters preceded her in death. She is survived by a daughter, Bonnie (Billy) Jenkins of Winston-Salem; two sons, Benard ''Bud'' (Nita) Smitherman of Winston-Salem and Billy (Sharon) Smitherman of Jackson, Va.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and five sisters in Iowa. A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at Deep Creek Friends Church in Yadkinville, with the Rev. H.O. Jenkins officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1, at Reavis Funeral Home, Yadkinville. Reavis Funeral Home Yadkinville Chapel is serving the Smitherman family.
SPAINHOUR
KING -- Troy Leroy Spainhour, 90, died Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at Walnut Cove Health Care where he had been for the past 12 years. He was born July 18, 1910, in Stokes County to Oscar Lee and Nannie Ethel White Spainhour. Troy served with the U.S. Army during World War II and was a retired farmer and brick mason. Preceding him in death were two brothers, Elbert and Delos Spainhour and a sister, Hassell Spainhour. Surviving are his wife, Ruby Denny Spainhour of the home; a daughter, Cindy Ann Sales; a grandson, Jason Lee Thomas, both of King; two stepsons, Melvin and Johnny Thomas, both of King; three sisters, Medea Cardwell of Winston-Salem, Opal Lawson of King and Estelle Pope of Kernersville; and two brothers, Branson Spainhour of King and Thamer Spainhour of Rockwell. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at Slate Funeral Home in King with Brother Larry Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Closer Walk Baptist Church Cemetery.
