STEWART
Mr. Charles Abner Stewart Jr., 79, died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, after an illness with cancer. Mr. Stewart was born in Rockingham County Feb. 6, 1921, to Charles Abner and Sallie Morton Stewart. He was of the Baptist faith. He lived most of his life in the Ogburn Station community. Mr. Stewart was a plumbing contractor and had owned Stewart Plumbing Co. for 20 years. Mr. Stewart was retired from the city of Winston-Salem as a plumbing inspector after 15 years service. Mr. Stewart was a former member of Mineral Springs Volunteer Fire Department with 22 years service, where he served several years as chairman of the board. He was a member of the North Forsyth Civic Club and the High Rock Lake Association. He had served several years on the board of directors at Northwestern Bank, Ogburn Station branch. He was a 32nd degree Mason of Corinthian Lodge #542, Greensboro. He was a Shriner and a member of Oasis Temple. Mr. Stewart served in the U.S. Army during World War II where he was in campaigns and battles in Central Europe, Northern France, the Ardennes and the Rhineland. Among the citations and decorations he earned were the EAMET Campaign Medal with four bronze stars, the American Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Clyde M. Stewart; and a sister, Ramona Ann Stewart. He is survived by his wife, Nellie Coram Stewart; three sons, Ronald J. Stewart and wife, Lynn, of Kernersville, Charles S. Stewart of Lexington and Mark A. Stewart of Winston-Salem; two daughters, Karen G. Snider and husband, Scottie, of Lexington and Connie J. Mitchell and husband, Steve, of Apex; four grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy ''Dottie'' Stewart of Stanleyville; and two brothers, Thomas Moody Stewart and wife, Loran, of Pine Hall and Bobby Lee Stewart and wife, Nell, of Winston-Salem. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Hospice of Winston-Salem, 1100-C S. Stratford Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or the donor's choice. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1 at Vogler's Reynolda Road Chapel. Members of the family and friends will meet at the cemetery for a graveside service at 2 p.m. Dec. 2 at Forsyth Memorial Park, 3771 Yadkinville Road. The Rev. B.A. Carroll will officiate. TIRRELL
CLEMMONS -- Carol Jean (Claycamp) Tirrell, 58, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born Aug. 13, 1942, in Harper, Kan., to Ella Marie (Parker) Claycamp and the late Leslie Clarence Claycamp. She spent a cherished childhood on a farm between Ames and Rice in Cloud County, Kan., and in the community of Benton, Kan., with her parents and four siblings. After graduating from Benton High School in 1959, she entered Kansas State Teachers' College in Emporia where she received her bachelor's degree in elementary education. In September of 1963, at the age of 21, she began her lifelong teaching career at Heusner Elementary School in Salina, Kan. Carol wed the late Dr. Richard Irving Tirrell, at that time a second lieutenant at Schilling Air Force Base, on Oct. 9, 1965. She received her master's degree in elementary education from Kansas State Teachers' College in 1967. Carol had been with the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools since 1974 and had worked as the curriculum coordinator at Old Richmond Elementary in Tobaccoville for 25 years. She was a devoted wife and mother and had many interests, hobbies and friends. Carol enjoyed traveling domestically and abroad, singing in the Messiah, collecting antique children's books and volunteering for the Ronald McDonald house and other charitable organizations. She was an accomplished pianist and would often play piano during the Sunday service at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship where she was a longtime member and past president. She is survived by two sons, Mark Allen Tirrell (Anna) of Winston-Salem and Gregory Richard Tirrell of Clemmons; her mother, Ella of Augusta, Kan.; her brother, Leslie Duane Claycamp (Trudy), also of Augusta; her sister, Janet Marie Duncan (Gerald) of Girard, Kan.; her brother, Dean Ray Claycamp (Paula) of Wichita, Kan.; her sister, Diane Kay Hraban (Tom) of Ponca City, Okla.; her sister-in-law, Jean Prescott (Tirrell) Pratt (Don) of Springfield, Pa.; and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. Mark and Greg would like to extend heartfelt grati tude and thanks for the over whelming support of the teach ers and staff of Old Richmond Elementary, especially Pau line Lowder, Kay Schneider and Caroline Billings; the Care Committee members and friends of the Unitarian Uni versalist Fellowship of Win ston-Salem, especially Donna and Ernie Schmid; and to Lin da Henson and aunts Janet and Diane. Our gratitude for your love, care and support during a difficult time cannot easily be expressed or repaid. WATFORD
Mrs. Bessie Adams Watford, 88, formerly of 112 Cecil Drive,died Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, at Springwood Care Center of Forsyth. Mrs. Watford was born Feb. 12, 1912, in Yadkin County to Willis Lee and Frannie Selena Evans Adams. She lived most of her life in Winston-Salem and was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church. Mrs. Watford was retired from the Container Corporation of America. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rupert Gibson Watford. Surviving are her daughter, Hettie W. Pittman of Winston-Salem; three granddaughters, Darlene Cantrell of Winston-Salem, Vickie Summey of Lewisville and Marty Young of Walnut Cove; a grandson, Wayne Pittman of Winston-Salem; eight great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Mineral Springs Baptist Church with Dr. Cecil Cave Jr. officiating. She will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Park in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel. FULP
Mr. Dallas Powell Fulp, 69, died peacefully Friday morning, December 31, 1999 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Mr. Fulp was born January 26, 1930 to John William and Annie Powell Fulp in Winston-Salem. He graduated from Mineral Springs High School in 1948 and served for two years in the U.S. Army. He was employed with Southern Bell and retired in 1983 after 36 years of service. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, the White Rock Civic Club and the Bellsouth Pioneers for as long as his health permitted. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother, Daniel. Mr. Fulp is survived by his wife of 43 years, Ruby Bauguess Fulp; three daughters and sons-in-law, Donna and Mike Basile, Barbara and Joel Fuller Fulp, and April and David Paradis; and five sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and John Coordsen, Madge and Bob Tesh, Diane and Larry Ivester, Judy and Jerry Swaim, and Daphne and H.J. (Tink) Schaffer. He is also survived by a host of very special cousins, nieces, and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 2, 1999 at 3:00 p.m. at Mt. GROCE
JONESVILLE -- Mr. Worth Richard ''Bud'' Groce, 86, of Center Road, passed away Thursday, December 30, 1999 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born September 11, 1913 in Yadkin County to the late Henry David and Percy Haynes Groce. Mr. Groce was retired from Chatham Manufacturing and was a member of Swan Creek Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Armstrong Groce in 1987. Surviving are his son, Keith Groce of Swan Creek Road, Jonesville; two sisters, Virginia Wagoner of Hamptonville and Lillie ''Tot'' Wooten of Yadkinville; and two brothers, Henry ''Tuck'' Groce and Leonard Groce both of Jonesville. His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday at Swan Creek Baptist Church by Rev. Nat Thompson. He will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. HUNT
EAST BEND -- Mr. Roger Amos Hunt, 93, of 3225 Flint Hill Road, passed away Thursday, December 30, 1999 at his residence after years of declining health. Mr. Hunt was born July 15, 1906 in Yadkin County to Joseph Evans and Cora Mae Elizabeth Fletcher Hunt. Mr. Hunt was a life time member of East Bend Friends Meeting where he served as a Sunday School teacher and a Deacon. Mr. Hunt was a very industrious person, having worked a Zendendof Laundry in Winston-Salem; sub-contracted in the building of barracks at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville in the 1930's; served as a Yadkin County Deputy Sheriff for twelve years, from 1945-1956; worked for the Duplan Corporation in Winston-Salem for 25 years; and was a tobacco farmer for 60 years. Mr. Hunt was preceded in death by his parents; a loving wife, Cornelia Davis Hunt who become Roger's bride on April 27, 1927. Also preceding him in death was a daughter and son-in-law, Nelda and Junior Williams; three sisters, Susie Bean, Esther Farlow, and Addie Patterson; and three brothers, Clifford, Alden, and Robert (Robby) Hunt. Mr. Hunt is survived by a son, Edwin Hunt; a grandson, Tony Williams both of East Bend; a granddaughter, Cathy (Steve) Wise; two great-grandchildren, Travis and Stacee Wise all of Columbia, Missouri; and two sisters, Annie Chappel of Winston-Salem and Sadie Henning of Lewisville. Funeral services for Mr. Hunt will be at East Bend Friends Meeting Tuesday, January 4, 2000 at 3:00 p.m. with the body lying instate from 2:30; burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, January 3, 2000 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Huff Funeral Home in East Bend. Mrs. Myrtle Ring Hutchens, 75, died at Kate B. Reynoldes Hospice Home on Wednesday, December 29, 1999. Mrs. Hutchens was born September 11, 1924 to Franklin D. and Flora H. Ring. She lived most of her life in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Hutchens was a member of First Pentecostal Holiness Church. She retired from Hanes Corporation in 1982 after 44 years of service. She was preceded in death by her mother and father. Surviving is her brother, Paul C. Ring and wife, Carolyn of Pfafftown; and two nieces, Paula R. Shaw of Pfafftown and Mary Beth Deal of Gibsonville, N.C. The graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, January 2, 2000 at Forsyth Memorial Park. NORTH WILKESBORO -- Mrs. Nobie Mastin, age 83, wife of Will Mastin of Monroe Rd., North Wilkesboro, died Thursday, December 30, 1999 at Hoots Memorial Hospital, Yadkinville. Mrs. Mastin was born June 16, 1916 in Wilkes County to Elisnore and Sinie Foster Chambers. Mrs. Mastin was a member of Fishing Creek Arbor Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband of the home; three sons, Ray Thomas Mastin of Kernersville, Clay William Mastin of Miller Creek, and Jerry Dean Mastin of Wilkesboro; two daughters, Doris Lorene Bumgarner of North Wilkesboro and Mrs. Jerrel (Diane) Laws of Purlear; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. KING -- Mrs. Sadie Britt Reynolds, 85, of Raeford, N.C., formerly of King, died Wednesday, December 29, 1999 after being in declining health for some time. She was born November 4, 1914 in Columbus County, N.C. to Wiley C. and Annie Williamson Britt. She was preceded in death by her husband, R.B. Reynolds in 1983. Surviving are a number of nieces and nephews and one sister-in-law. She was a member of Poplar Springs Church of Christ where funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. Ralph Sproles, Minister and Rev. Barry Marshall will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at Slate Funeral Home in King. RYAN
HARMONY -- Mrs. Sally Bet Renegar Ryan, age 86, of 2511 Sandy Springs Road, Harmony, died Thursday, December 30, 1999 at Iredell Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. Born in Iredell County, March 21, 1913 a daughter of the late John A. and Lula Bell Cook Renegar. Mrs. Ryan was a graduate of Harmony High School and Saint Joseph Hospital School of Nursing and prior to her retirement was employed by Forsyth Memorial Hospital in Winston-Salem in the nursing department. She was married to Clayton Ryan who died in 1942. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Milford Renegar, John Ray Renegar, and Hubert Renegar, also by four sisters, Miss Alta Renegar, Mrs. Etta R. Johnson, Mrs. Era R. Holmes, and Mrs. Ila Mae R. Abbott. Survivors include one sister, Mrs, Cloyce Renegar Bullard of Harmony and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Sandy Springs Baptist Church. Rev. David Kiser and Rev. Howard Wagoner will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie instate thirty minutes prior to the service. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at Reavis Funeral Home in Statesville Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. She was a life long member of Sandy Springs Baptist Church.
