KERNERSVILLE -- Mr. Richard Lindley Pegg, 59, of 2370 Chaucer Lane, died Tuesday, September 21, 1999, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born in Forsyth County a son of the late Junious L. ''Chip'' and Carrie Tilley Pegg. He retired from the U.S. Army with 20 years service, serving two tours in Vietnam. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal; Bronze Star Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with one silver service star; Vietnam Campaign Medal; Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm; and the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Pegg was a member of Oscar Joyner VFW Post 5352 and was a 32 degree Scottish Rite Mason. He was a truck driver for Carolina Pacific Distributors, Inc. Surviving is a daughter, Janette and her husband, Dennis Lee Brock of Lexington; two granddaughters, Taylor Lynn Brock and Alexandra Denise Brock; three sisters, Alice Ann (Pegg) Schroeder, Mary Lee (Pegg) Wilson, and Betty Jo (Pegg) Rydberg all of Kernersville; two aunts, Pauline Clinard and Dorothy Tilley both of Kernersville; and three nieces. A funeral service will be conducted Friday, September 24, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Chapel conducted by Hospice Chaplain Fred Moretz. Burial will follow in Mt. Gur Cemetery where Ft. Bragg Honor Guards will conduct Military Honors. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home, Kernersville. Mrs. Pauline (Polly) Highfill Rau, 96, of 3481 York Road, died Tuesday, September 21, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mrs. Rau was a native of Siloam Springs, Arkansas where she was born May 14, 1903 to C. Dona and Lou Ellen Rodgers Highfill. She was a graduate of Kansas State Teachers College and taught in the public schools of Kansas for five years. She was married on July 20, 1928 to Mr. Irving Julius Rau of Chicago, Illinois. Mr. and Mrs. Rau moved to Winston-Salem in 1946 with the first group of Western Electric families. Mr. Rau preceded his wife in death in 1961. Mrs. Rau had been a member of First Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, was a member of the Telephone Pioneers, the White Shrine and had loved and supported the arts in the Winston-Salem area for many years. Mrs. Rau was also preceded in death by a son, Ronald Charles Rau. She is survived by two daughters, Rodgeryn (Mrs. Victor I. Flow, Jr.), and Paula (Mrs. James R. Parks); and a daughter-in-law, Linda V. Rau of Winston-Salem; grandchildren Donald E. Flow, Ralph A. Flow, Marie F. Arcuri, Kristin B. Davies, Julia P. (Jill) Baucom, Ronald C. Rau, Jr., Julie R. Brad, Karen R. Kahn, David L. Rau and Michael E. Rau; two step-grandchildren, Mark B. and Merrill B. Vanoy and twenty-two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a dear companion of twenty-one years, Mrs. Flora Flow. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 24, 1999 at First Presbyterian Church by Dr. Jeff White. Interment will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Vogler's Reynolda Road Chapel. RICHARDSON
Mr. Donald Ray Richardson, 60, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 1999 at his home. Mr. Richardson was born in Davie County April 10, 1939 to Mr. Robert Walter and Lettie Elnora Boyd Richardson. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Elmer, Alvin, and Leroy Richardson. Surviving are five sisters, Mrs. Frances Busby of Salisbury, Mrs. Louise Swisher of Goldsboro, Mrs. Dorothy Smith and husband, Harley of Lexington, Mrs. Ann Schiller, and Mrs. Elizabeth Cale and husband, Clarence all of Norfolk, Va. Four brothers also survive, Mr. Clyde Richardson of Mocksville, Mr. William L. Richardson of Winston-Salem, Mr. Shirley Carr Richardson of Mocksville, and Mr. Bobby Glenn Richardson of S.C. A memorial service will be held at a later date, Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is serving the family. The family asks that memorials be made to the donor's choice.
BAILEY
ADVANCE -- Titi Foster Carter Bailey, 87, of Fork Bixby Rd., passed away September 19, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. Mrs. Bailey was born May 23, 1912 in Davie County to the late William Giles and Sallie Livengood Foster. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Morrison L. Carter in 1933 and by her second husband, Cicero S. Bailey in 1981; one son, Bobby Bailey; one brother, William G. Foster, Jr.; four sisters, Thelma Allen, Ruth Shillinglaw, Rea Foster, and Louise Jones; and one granddaughter, Sandra Carter Cope. She was a member of Fork Baptist Church and attended Elbaville United Methodist Church. Mrs. Bailey was very active in the Senior Citizens Group for both church's. She was a retired employee of Cooleemee Manufacturing Company. Mrs. Bailey was well known for her love of gardening and flowers. She was very much loved by her family and all that knew her. Mrs. Bailey is survived by three sons, Jack Carter and wife, Dot, Gray Carter and wife, Ruby all of Advance, N.C., and Joe Bailey and wife, Judy of Mocksville, N.C.; three daughters, Peggy Rummage and husband, Felix of Lexington, N.C., Dorothy Sowers and husband, George of Winston-Salem, and Sallie Buie and Carl of Denton, N.C.; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Buddie Foster of Advance. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 22, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at Elbaville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jack Wallace and Rev. Rusty Morrison officiating. The body will lie instate 30 minutes prior to service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Rebecca Hammond Berrier, passed away on Tuesday, September 21, 1999 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Berrier was born on July 19, 1945 in Columbia, South Carolina to Howard and Sarah Walters Hammond. She spent most of her life in Winston-Salem and was a second grade school teacher for the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System. Mrs. Berrier is survived by one daughter, Phyllis and husband, Danny Hurd of Winston-Salem; one son, Grey Glass of Winston-Salem; two grandchildren, Zachary and Thomas Hurd; one brother, Worth Hammond of Fort Worth, Texas; and a very close friend, Dennis Berrier. The funeral service will be at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel on Thursday, September 23, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. conducted by Rev. H. Samuel Carter. Interment will be in the Gardens of Memory. Deloris Setliff Campbell, 78, of 1202 Gunn St., Apt. 15 B, Reidsville, N.C., died Sunday, September 19, 1999 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. at Ruffin Stacey Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Happy Home Church of Christ Cemetery. Mrs. Campbell was a native of Rockingham County. She was retired from Burlington Mills and attended Ruffin Stacey Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Floyd and Cora Setliff and was preceded in death by her son, Larry Campbell and her brother, Andrew Setliff. Surviving are three daughters, Brenda Wilkins and husband, Joen of Reidsville, Mel Ross and husband, Ray of Reidsville, and Sylvia Bryant and husband, Lewis of Walnut Cove; eleven grandchildren; nineteen greatgrandchildren; a sister, Pauline Stallings of Danville; and a brother, Richard Setliff of Chesapeake, Va.

Miss Beulah Elizabeth Carroll, 79, of Brookridge Retirement Home, died Tuesday, September 21, 1999 at her home. She was born May 19, 1920 in Stokes County to Edwin Wallace and Nina Sheppard Carroll. She was retired from The Integon Corporation. Miss Carroll was a member of First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Isabel McCracken; and two brothers, Roland Carroll and Spencer Carroll. Surviving is a brother, Wallace E. Carroll of Winston-Salem; a sister-in-law, Hattie Carroll of Winston-Salem; a niece, Robin C. Shelton of King; and two nephews, Roland S. Carroll of Charlotte and Ed Beatty of Cayman Islands. MAYODAN -- Alma Doss Collins, 87, formerly of 403 W. Jackson St., Mayodan, died Tuesday, September 21, 1999 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro after an extended illness. Her funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 23, 1999 at the Mayodan Pentecostal Holiness Church with burial in the Mayodan Municipal Cemetery. Mrs. Collins had resided most of her life in Rockingham County, had retired from Washington Mills Co., was a member of Mayodan Pentecostal Holiness Church, and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Thomas Collins. She is survived be her daughters, Garnette Williams and husband, Leonard of Mayodan, Peggy Robertson and husband, Bill of Kernersville, and Brenda Jordan and husband, Frank of Concord; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. MOUNT AIRY -- Mr. William Dan Edwards, 80, of 1510 Five Oaks Trail, Mount Airy, N.C. husband of the late Dora Quesinberry Edwards, passed away on Monday, September 20, 1999 at the Clemmons Village in Clemmons. Mr. Edwards was born in Surry County on December 12, 1918, the son of the late William and Maggie Webster Edwards. Mr. Edwards was retired from Cockerman's Florist, was a member of Fancy Gap Baptist Church, and was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during World War II. Survivors include one daughter, Judy Edwards of Winston-Salem; one son and daughter-in-law, Guy and Bronda Edwards of Macon, Ga.; one sister, Helen Allred of Mount Airy; one brother, Jim Edwards of Norfolk, Va.; and one sister-in-law, Verona Snow of Mount Airy. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 23, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Dwight Sechirst and Rev. Fred Moretz. Ms. Joyce Elem, passed away on Sunday, September 19, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was born and raised in Birmingham, Alabama on January 31, 1952 to Mrs. Lois S. Elem and the late Mr. Edward Elem. She was an active member of the Cleveland Avenue Christian Church, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she served on the Christian Enrichment Committee. Ms. Elem was a graduate of Knoxville College, Knoxville, Tenn. and was employed by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, Packaging Division, as a Financial Analyst for 25 years. She was an active member of several organizations and Boards: the Triad Diamond Ski Club, Urban League, President of the SASSY Ladies Book Club, Board Member of the North Carolina Repertory Company, Board Member of the National Black Theatre Festival, and served as the Volunteer Coordinator since 1991 for the Theatre Festival. She was an avid reader and loved the written word. She enjoyed working in the community and thrived on enhancing the quality of life for so many others. Ms. Elem possessed an amazing grace and spirit as she left this world. She is survived by her loving and devoted mother, Mrs. Lois S. Elem; four sisters and one brother, Sandra Howard, Yvonne E. Baskin. E. Lois Germany (Jeff), Cathy Cumbie (Kennard), and Edward Vaughn Elem all of Birmingham, Ala.; fourteen nieces and nephews; scores of relatives; and countless friends and co-workers. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, September 23, 1999 at 12:00 Noon, at Cleveland Avenue Christian Church, Winston-Salem by Rev. Sheldon McCarter.
