LAMP
BADIN -- Mr. Robert Russell Lamp Sr., 77, of 113 Falls Road, Badin, died Thursday, March 30, 2000, at Stanly Memorial Hospital. He was born Feb. 7, 1923, in Licking County, Ohio, to Hattie Gladden Spears Lamp and Floyd Lamp. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Rebecca Camp Lamp, in 1996. He was a retired ALCOA crane operator and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was stationed at Camp Mackall during World War II, where he met his future wife, Doris. After service, the couple elected to remain in North Carolina and settled in Badin. He was a member of Badin United Methodist Church. He is survived by three sons, Robert ''Bobby'' Russell Lamp Jr. of Winston-Salem, Jim Lamp of Albemarle and John Lamp of Colfax; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers in Ohio. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today at Fairview Memorial Park with the Rev. Phillip Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Memorial Park in Albemarle. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. today at Hartsell Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
LESTER
Mr. LeeVonne Collins Lester, 25, known to family and friends as LeeJay, of 2304 N. Manchester St. passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, March 28, 2000, at the Wake Forest University-Baptist Medical Center. LeeJay was born in Winston-Salem June 26, 1974, to Sheila T. Lester and Henry Simmons. His maternal grandparents, Waldo C. Lester Sr. and the late Marjorie T. Lester, were instrumental in his growth and development as a fine human being. LeeJay was a member of Hanes Memorial C M E Church, where he previously belonged to the Christian Youth Fellowship and the H.M.C. Chorale. He was educated in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County schools and graduated from Carver High School in 1992. He furthered his education at N.C. A&T State University. His love for music encouraged him to become a member of the Marching Yellow Jackets and the A&T Marching Band. LeeJay was a musician and a poet. LeeJay was preceded in death by his loving and devoted grandmother, Marjorie T. Lester, and his maternal aunt, Sylena L. Nesbitt. He leaves to cherish fond and happy memories his daughter, Sylena Nicole Lester-Johnson; his mother, Sheila L. Kennedy; father Henry Simmons; his grandfather, Waldo C. Lester Sr.; his paternal grandmother, Essie Simmons; and his sister, Lavunya Marlin, and brother JaHen Marlin, all of Winston-Salem. LeeJay will also be mourned by his aunts, Marjorie L. Brannon of Hampton, Va., and Yvonne L. Thacker, Phyllis A. Lester and Debra (Charles) Smith, all of Winston-Salem; uncles Waldo C. (Dana) Lester Jr. of Tampa, Fla., and John D. Nesbitt Sr. and Carl (Debbie ) Simmons, both of Winston-Salem, and Robert E. Brannon Sr. of Hampton; his great-aunts and uncles; many loving and devoted cousins, one especially close, Sheila W. Nesbitt; his god mother, Mary N. (Phillip) McGee of Durham; a very dear friend, Tasha Johnson, and her family of Winston-Salem; and many, many more friends. LOOS
KING -- Mrs. Mildred Hagen Loos, 97, widow of John Carl Loos, died Thursday, March 30, 2000, at Village Care of King, where she was a resident. Mrs. Loos was born in Buffalo, N.Y., on Nov. 26, 1902, the daughter of the late Edward and Ruth Burke Hagen. Mrs. Loos had been an active member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem before moving to Havelock in the early 1990s to live with her daughter. Surviving are her daughter, Ruth Marie Lee of King; a daughter-in-law, Karen Loos of Rural Hall; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Loos was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Carl Edward Loos; and a son-in-law, Charles William Lee. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 2, 2000, by Dr. Judson Milam. Burial will be in Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel. Mrs. Mirtie Sisk Martin, 92, formerly of Lawsonville, died Friday, March 31, 2000 , at Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart, Va. She was born Feb. 26, 1908 , in Stokes County, the daughter of the late George and Cora Nelson Sisk. She was a homemaker and a member of Snow Hill United Methodist Church. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Daniel Martin. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Othelia and Jimmy Stowe of Stuart, Va.; two sons and daughters-in-law, George R. and Mary Helen Martin of Stoneville , and Donnie Lee and Jeanette Martin of Mayodan; a sister, Mary S. Smith of Danbury; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren ; and a step great-grandson. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Snow Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Evelyn Browning officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Nelson Funeral Home Chapel and other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Donnie Lee Martin, 1883 Park Road, Mayodan.

MIAMI -- Maude Hauser Matthews, 104, passed away Wednesday March 29, 2000, in Miami . Graveside services will be at Salem Cemetery at 11 a.m. April 1.
PAYNE
MOUNT AIRY -- Mr. Rupert Nelson ''Whitey'' Payne, 77, of Pipers Gap Road, Mount Airy, husband of Mrs. Lola Bowman Payne, passed away at his home early Friday , March 31, 2000. Mr. Payne was born in Surry County on Oct. 21, 1922. He was the owner and operator of Whitey's Radiator Shop Inc. on North South Street in Mount Airy since 1953. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Tabernacle Baptist Church. Surviving are his loving wife of 54 years, Mrs. Lola Bowman Payne of the home; a daughter, Patsy L. Payne of Winston-Salem; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Diane Payne of Mount Airy; two grandsons and a spouse, Mitchell Eaton of Philadelphia and Stephen Payne and wife Dawn of Mount Airy; a great-granddaughter, Jessica Nicole Payne of Mount Airy; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Ralph Sprinkle of Thomasville; and a brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Gladys Payne of Rural Hall. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, conducted by the Rev. Jimmy McCraw and the Rev. David Ward. Burial will be in Skyline Memory Gardens. RICHMOND
Mrs. Marguerite Hagan Richmond, 85, of Pfafftown died Thursday, March 30, 2000, at Claire Bridge Assisted Living Home in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Richmond was born Oct. 31, 1914, in Kansas City, Kan., to Daniel Leslie and Mary Kathryn Schnieders Hagan. She was a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church. Her life revolved around her husband, children and grandchildren. She was always there when the family needed her and she will be greatly missed. Mrs. Richmond was preceded in death by her husband, Roland Milton Richmond, on July 4, 1995. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Rosalind R. Young of Asheville and Mrs. Sandra Petterson of Pfafftown; a son, R. Michael Richmond; four grandchildren, Mrs. Stephanie Y. Bryant and Nicholas, Kristie, and Melissa Petterson; a sister, Mrs. Kathleen Farley of Gravois Mills, Mo.; and a brother, Robert Hagan of Alexandria, Va. A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 3, at St. Leo's Catholic Church. Interment will be at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the Mass.
SMITH
KING -- Mr. Billy Ray Smith, 60, of Westmoreland Road died suddenly Thursday, March 30, 2000, at J.R. Jones Medical Center in King. Mr. Smith was born April 23, 1939, in Clio, S.C., the son of Cassie Preston Smith and the late Thomas Fountain ''Happy'' Smith. Billy was of the Christian faith. He was an employee of Plymouth Printing Co. in Winston-Salem and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Ann Butner Smith of the home; his mother, Cassie Preston Smith of King; two sisters, Peggy Blevins of Rural Hall and Betty Ernst and husband Owen of King; two brothers, Bob Smith and wife Gaye of King and Leroy Smith and wife Lisa of Pinnacle; and a special aunt, Margie Lilly and husband Dempsey of King. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Jack Smith and Jim Smith. The funeral will be at 7 p.m. today at Hayworth-Miller Chapel in Rural Hall with the Revs. Gene Thompson and Bill Truitt. The Smith family will receive friends after the service. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Christian Church Cemetery in King with military honors by the King American Legion Post 290. STROBLE
Mr. Donald Edward Stroble of 6145 Skylark Drive died at his home Thursday morning , March 30, 2000 . Mr. Stroble was born May 30, 1914, the son of Donald Eugene and Virginia Mae Stroble. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired employee of the American Association of Railroads. Mr. Stroble was a very active member of Pfafftown Christian Church , where he served as an elder, chairman of the board, member of the choir and member of the Lawson Campbell Sunday school class. He was an active leader of Boy Scout Troop 918 and a musician, having played the violin for the Pfafftown orchestra during the 1930 s. Surviving are two brothers, James Stroble and Bill Stroble Sr.; three nieces, Cynthia Clinard, Donna Stroble Hilliard and Mary Stroble Mayhen; and two nephews, Ed Stroble and Bill Stroble Sr. Funeral services will be at Pfafftown Christian Church at 4 p.m. Saturday with burial in the Pfafftown Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Vogler's Reynolda Road Chapel from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday. Any memorials may be made to the Pfafftown Christian Church.
WATSON
Mr. Jesse David Watson III, 51, of Winston-Salem, a beloved husband, father and son , died Wednesday, March 29, 2000, in Ocala, Fla. He was born July 6, 1948, in Concord to Jesse David Watson Jr. and Rachel Morgan Watson. Mr. Watson was a member of Mount Tabor United Methodist Church. After graduating from Western Carolina University with a degree in professional writing, he began his newspaper career at the Hickory Daily Record . Since 1974, he was employed by The Sen tinel and the Winston-Salem Jour nal . He wrote the SAM, the Straight-Answer Man column for the past 15 years. He loved the outdoors and was involved in scouting. He was an assistant scout master of Boy Scout Troop 934. Surviving are his wife, Sharon Shook Watson , and two sons, Aaron and Evan Watson , all of the home; his parents of Kannapolis; and a sister, Nancy K. Claflin of New London, N.H. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Mount Tabor United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ken Carter and the Rev. Susan Hubbard officiating. Burial will be in Forsyth Memorial Park.
