WHARTON
Ms. Cola S. Mullins Wharton, 88, of 2055 N. Cherry St. passed into eternity Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2000, at Winston-Salem Rehabilitation Center following a period of illness. She was a native of LakeView, S.C., born Oct. 3, 1911, to the late Gus and Reece Scott. She was a member of Eastside Church of Christ. She was a retired employee of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at the Carver Road Church of Christ, with Brother Jessie Tolliver officiating. Family visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Piedmont Memorial Gardens. She leaves to cherish her memories a son, Ike Mullins; two grandsons, I. Gerod Mullins III and Rodney Douglas Mullins; a sister, Ada Dixon; and a host of other grandchildren, nieces, relatives and other friends. PFAFFTOWN -- Mrs. Nellie Hollandsworth Wilson, 64, of 4745 Sherborn Drive went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000. She was born May 4, 1939, in Franklin County to the late Alfred Green and Ethel Prillaman Hollandsworth. Mrs. Wilson was a member of North Point Baptist Church and was employed with Womble, Carlyle Sandridge and Rice Law Firm for 24 years. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela Gayle Wilson. She is survived by her husband, Herman Leon Wilson of the home; a son, Michael L. Wilson and wife Donna J. of Winston-Salem; a granddaughter, Morgan Wilson; a grandson, Lucas Wilson; a sister, Mrs. Mattie H. Robertson of Bassett, Va.; and two brothers, James and Joe Hollandsworth, both of Martinsville, Va. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at North Point Baptist Church by Pastor Skip Furrow. ASHBURN
Mrs. Doris Dance Ashburn, 81, of Winston-Salem passed away Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. Mrs. Ashburn was born Nov. 19, 1919, in Lynchburg, Va., to Maude Landrum Dance and Edward Thomas Dance. She was a member of Ardmore Baptist Church and was employed with Dr. R.L. Wall Jr. for over 30 years. Mrs. Ashburn was preceded in death by her husband, Conrad Clinton Ashburn Sr., and her son, Conrad Clinton Ashburn Jr. Surviving are a daughter, Rosa Lee Scarborough (husband Jack) of Shallotte; a son, Edward D. Ashburn (wife Mary) of Sanford; a daughter-in-law, Mararuth Ashburn Capell, of Wadesboro; five grandchildren, David Ashburn, Todd Ashburn, Kristin Ashburn Donaldson, Virginia Lee Scarborough and Steven Scarborough; and a brother, E.T. Dance, of Winston-Salem. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at Ardmore Baptist Church with the Rev. Ty Talton and the Rev. S.R. Ashburn officiating. BRINTLE
DOBSON -- Mrs. Glenna Irzene Isaacs Brintle, 76, died at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, after a long illness. Mrs. Brintle was born in Lincoln County, W.Va., to the late Richard Verlin Isaacs and Eulah Pullen Isaacs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Kelly Brintle. She was a homemaker and had worked in the family business, Brintle Electric Service Co., and was a member of Dover Missionary Baptist Church. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Kathy Brintle of Dobson; a granddaughter, Laurie Brintle, of Baltimore, Md.; a grandson, Kelly Brintle, of Wilmington; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard G. and Jewel Isaacs, of Mount Airy; two nephews, Kevin Isaacs and Keith Isaacs, both of Mount Airy; and a special friend, Linda Johnson, of Mount Airy. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Dover Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Her body will remain at Davis & Son Funeral Home in Dobson until carried to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. DARR
THOMASVILLE -- Mr. Fred Leonard Darr, 87, a resident of 3119 Old Greensboro Road, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, in Community General Hospital after a short illness. He was born Oct. 8, 1913, in Davidson County, the son of Solomon Mack Darr and Emma Sophia Leonard Darr. He had been a resident of this area all his life. He was retired from Thomasville Furniture Industries Plant V, retiring with more than 34 years of service. He was a former member of the Pilot Lions Club. He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, the Lloyd Jackson Sunday-school class and the United Methodist Men. Mr. Darr served on various committees in the church, including the board of trustees, Memorial Day committee and the Administrative Council, and was very active in the Senior Citizens. He was married to Evva Nifong Darr, who preceded him in death Nov. 12, 1998. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Hugh (Pansey) Mayberry and Mrs. Bill (Peggy) Owen, both of Charlotte, and Mrs. Bobby (Betty) Almond of Thomasville; two sons, Clark Darr and wife Linda of Lexington and Robert Mack Darr of Newport News, Va.; a brother, Cletus L. Darr of Winston-Salem; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at Fairview United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Wiseman, the Rev. Clyde Akers and the Rev. Steve Livengood officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will be at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and other times at the home. Mr. Darr will remain at the funeral home until placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. The family requests that the Lloyd Jackson Sunday-school class serve as honorary pallbearers and should meet at the church at 1:40 p.m. Sunday.

Mr. Abner David Goodin, 67, of 3608 Carver School Road passed away Thursday morning at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born in Sumter, S.C., and had lived here since early childhood. He was a member of United Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a member of Missionary Group #3 and attended Sunday school. He was employed at Carolina Narrow Fabric Co. until his health failed. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Barbara J. Goodin of the home; three sons, Don Robinson (Gwendolyn), Barry Robinson (Cynthia) and Ray Anthony Robinson, all of Winston-Salem; two daughters, Shelia Robinson and Darlene Robinson, both of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy McElvain of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Mrs. Cleo McGriff (Andrew) of Winston-Salem; a brother, Reynolds Goodin of Charlotte; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends; and devoted friends Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Opal Stone, Mr. and Mrs. Booker and Eire Williams, all of Winston-Salem. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at United Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. J. Ray Butler officiating. Burial will follow in the family plot at Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Monday 30 minutes prior to the services. The procession will assemble and leave from the home, 3608 Carver School Road en route to the church at 1:10 p.m. Monday. KING -- Mrs. Vergie Ellen Bowman Harold, 90, of Village Care, formerly of the Franklin community, passed away Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000. Mrs. Harold was born in Patrick County, Va., April 25, 1910, the daughter of the late Percy Lee and Mary Etta Belton Bowman. She was a member of Doe Run Baptist Church. Survivors include a daughter, Ruby Frances, and son-in-law Paul Scheetz of Elon College; two sons, O.J. Harold of Indianapolis and Dennis R. and daughter-in-law Beverly Harold of Nashville, Tenn.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a special niece, Edith Sawyers and husband, Arville, of Mount Airy; several other nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law, Clara Bowman of Mount Airy and Nellie Bowman of Ararat, Va. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Harold was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Mr. Donald Head, 57, died Thursday evening, Nov. 30, 2000, at his home. He was born May 3, 1943, in Thomasville to Lindsay and Kathleen Myers Head. Surviving are a daughter, Judy Thacker (Scott) of Winston-Salem; four sons, Jimmy Head, Eric Head, Jerry Snow (Trisha) and Rodney Snow (Gina), all of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren, Sherrie Widener, Jimmy Head Jr., Matthew Myers, Britney Kilby, Briana Snow and Schylor Head; his mother of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Joan Webb (Kenneth) and Carolyn Walker; and two brothers, Tommy Head (Nadine) and William Head. GREENVILLE, S.C. -- Betty Ruth Howard, 53, of Don Drive died Nov. 30, 2000. Born in Rural Hall, she was a daughter of Robert Norman and Ruth Louella Tuttle Gentry of Rural Hall. She was a registered nurse on the Rehabilitation Floor of St. Francis Hospital. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and was president of the Inez Goldsmith Circle. Surviving in addition to her parents are her husband, Ronald G. Howard of the home; a daughter, Rebecca Howard of the home; three sons, Christopher G. Howard and his wife, Ashley, of Wilmington and Chad Howard and Todd Howard of the home; a brother, Wade Norman Gentry and his wife, Sharon, of King; and nephews Scott and Michael Gentry. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul United Methodist Church and burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Woody Smith will officiate. JOYNER
ADVANCE -- Mrs. Mary Rose Frye Joyner, 67, of N.C. Highway 801 S., died Thursday morning at Forsyth Medical Center after a short illness. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the Old Fulton Methodist Episcopal Church, South, with the Rev. Rusty Morrison and the Rev. Kermit Bailey, the Rev. Mark Denton and the Rev. Sue Northcraft officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will be at Eaton Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday. They requests that memorials be considered for the Emergency Food and Medicine Fund, Davie County Department of Social Services, c/o Ms. Karen Smith, P.O. Box 517, Mocksville, NC 27028. The body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Sunday. Mrs. Joyner was born in Davie County on May 11, 1933, to the late Samuel David and Amanda Waller Frye, and was retired from Ingersoll/Rand with 18 years of service. She was a graduate of the Shady Grove High School in Advance, class of 1951. Mrs. Joyner was a lifelong member of Fulton United Methodist Church; she currently attended the Episcopal Church of the Ascension at Fork. At Fulton Church, she was the church membership secretary for many years. She was a member and coordinator of the Food Closet Committee. Mrs. Joyner was a well-known community volunteer, and was instrumental in the restoration of the Old Fulton Methodist Episcopal Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Harles Joyner on July 30, 1985. Survivors include two sons, David Joyner of the home and Dean Joyner of Clemmons; three grandchildren, Marlena Joyner Parker, Michael Joyner and Ashley Joyner; a sister, Mrs. James (Mildred) Ryan of Advance; and a niece, Mrs. Ernie (Tonia) Harr of Charlotte.
