JOHNSON
Mr. Oscar Lee Johnson, 83, of Winston-Salem died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born Jan. 30, 1917, in Rowan County to Dover Samuel and Bobbie Elliott Johnson. He was retired from AT&T, formerly Western Electric, had been active in Boy Scout Troop #720, was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, a member of the Earl K. Gibson Sunday School Class and a member of the Methodist Men. He was preceded in death by his wife, Selma Grant Johnson, and his sister, Lucille Harris. Surviving are one son, Sammy L. Johnson and wife, Jan, of Winston-Salem; one daughter, Sandra J. Chitty and husband, Frank, of Winston-Salem; one grandson, Daniel N. Chitty of Winston-Salem; one granddaughter, Michelle Huffman and husband, Todd, of Pfafftown; one great-grandson, Andrew Huffman of Pfafftown; one niece, Linda Byers and husband, Doyte, of Stoney Point. Funeral services will be Friday, March 3, at 2 p.m. at Wesley Memorial United Church with the Rev. Bill Garrard officiating. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. KOONTZ
Mrs. Julia Keaton Koontz, 67, of Madison died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2000, at Wake Forest University-Baptist Medical Center. She was born Nov. 5, 1932, in Forsyth County to the late Sanford Ervin and Voldia Penland Keaton. She is survived by five daughters; two sons; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four sons-in-law; and a daughter-in-law. Graveside services will be Thursday, March 2, at 11 a.m. at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens by Mr. Bill Teague. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff of the fourth floor I.C.U. unit, Ward C, for the loving care given to the family during this time. Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
LEEGER
ALBANY, Ga. -- George William Leeger, 86, of 1721 Beattie Road, Albany, formerly of 2409 E. Doublegate Drive, Albany, died Feb. 22, 2000, at Palmyra Medical Center in Albany. A native of Kittanning, Pa., Mr. Leeger was the assistant manager of Sears, Roebuck and Co. in Winston-Salem from 1940 to 1941. He later moved to Albany, where he was manager of the Sears store until he retired in 1977. He and his family were members of the Augsburg Lutheran Church in Winston-Salem and members of the First Methodist Church in Albany for the remainder of his life. He was a loving husband and father, an avid golfer and a vital servant of his community. Among the many civic and social organizations that he served as director or board member were the First State Bank and Trust Co. (now Regions Bank), the Albany Chamber of Commerce, the Community Chest (now The United Way), the Radium Springs Country Club, the Doublegate Country Club, the Salvation Army and the Anchorage Country Club. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Carolyn Pressley Leeger of the home; his daughters, Nancy L. Cloutier of Pace, Fla., Linda L. Stokes of Atlanta and Robin L. Voiers of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren, including Ivy Ross, formerly of Winston-Salem, now of Ashland, Ore.; and three great-grandchildren. A celebration of Mr. Leeger's life was held in a private memorial service in Albany Feb. 25, 2000.
LOCY
Mrs. Katherine Wise Locy, 87, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem. She was born in Washington, Pa., June 7, 1912, the daughter of Frank Chamberlain and Myrtle Irene Schmidt Wise. Surviving are a daughter, Eva Hall of Washington, Pa., and Dorothy Kania of Grove City, Pa.; two brothers, Frank Wise Sr. and Russell Wise both of Washington, Pa.; and six grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 3, at 11 a.m. at the Nichol Funeral Home Chapel in Washington, Pa. Burial will follow in the Long Pine Cemetery, Long Pine, Pa. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Nichol Funeral Home in Washington. Huff Funeral Home, East Bend is in charge of local arrangements.
MARTIN
Mr. Richard Earl Martin Jr., 79, of Winston-Salem died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center after a period of declining health. He was born Jan. 29, 1921, in East Bend to Dr. Richard E. and Ruth Ewing Martin. He was a retired employee of Graybar Electric Co. and was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy. Surviving are his wife, Virginia Pope Martin of the home; a son, Dick (Martha) Martin of Winston-Salem; two grandsons, Robert Greer and James Greer; two brothers, Kedric (Frances) Martin of Winston-Salem and Kenneth Martin of East Bend; and two aunts, Alline B. Martin of Winston-Salem an Dorothy Ewing of Biscoe. A graveside service will be held Friday, March 3, at the East Bend Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Huff Funeral Home in East Bend.
MEZEK
Mrs. Wilhelmenia Ellison Woodard Mezek, 93, known to all as ''Muh,'' of 1450 Harrison Ave. passed away Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born in Simpson, S.C., Fairfield County, to the late John Kitchen and Eunice Ellison on Oct. 26, 1906. At an early age, they moved to Columbia, S.C., and remained there until she became and adult. She married the Rev. Randolph N. Woodard. To this union, two children were born, William Theodore, who preceded her in passing in 1980, and a daughter, Carolyn. They moved to Winston-Salem in 1929 and joined the Mount Olivet Baptist Church. She later joined First Thessalonians Baptist Church, where she was mother of the church, a member of the Deaconess Board, the Missionary Circle and the Sunday school. She was a retired employee of the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., with more than 40 years of service. Most of her work period was in factory #256. She was a member of the Harrison Avenue Flower Club. In 1956, she married Willie D. Mezek, who preceded her in passing. She leaves to mourn her passing a daughter, Carolyn Woodard Coleman-Todd (Daniel); a devoted cousin, Ada Ford Love of Columbia, S.C.; three half-sisters, Minnie Bell Ford of Winston-Salem, Maryetta King and Dorothy Gibson of Baltimore, Md.; two grandsons, Norman Wayne Coleman (Susan) of Winston-Salem and Timothy Nivens Woodard of New York City; one granddaughter, Annie Rose Woodard Murphy of Queens, N.Y.; nine great-grandchildren; a very devoted niece, Tamar Jeffries of Winston-Salem; nephews; and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be Friday, March 3, 2000, at 1 p.m. from the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Anthony E. Johnson Sr. officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. (Russell)

Memorial services for Miss Nellie Virginia Phillips, 94, formerly of W. First St., will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2000, in the Ronthaler Chapel of Home Moravian Church. The Rev. Lehoma B. Goode will officiate. The family will receive friends after the service. Miss Phillips died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000.
ROBINSON
Mr. Moses Lee Robinson Sr. was born in Chester, S.C., to the late Moses and Mary Payton Robinson. He was a retired employee of Lucent Technologies (formerly AT&T ) and a barber by trade. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Ferguson. Mr. Robinson, a child of God, heard his Father's sweet whisper to come home Feb. 27, 2000. He leaves to cherish his life and loving memories a wife, Josephine Robinson of the home; children, Moses (Gail) Robinson Jr. of Clinton, Md., Olivia (Bobby) Summers and Debra (Darryl) Wilson, all of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Eliza Thomas Williams of Roosevelt, N.Y., Mrs. Geneva Purvis and Mrs. Velma Hinton both of Winston-Salem; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends including the Mount Zion Baptist Church Family. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, March 2, 2000, at 3 p.m. from the Mount Zion Baptist Church. Dr. Serenus T. Churn, the pastor, will officiate, and interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service hour (2:30 to 3 p.m.) at the church. (Hooper)

LEXINGTON -- Jay Shaw, 74, of Copley St., Lexington, died Tuesday, Feb. 29, 2000, at Lexington Memorial Hospital after declining health of several years. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 3, 2000, at Forest Hill Memorial Park conducted by Robert Born. Burial will follow. He was born in Richmond County on Nov. 7, 1925, to Roscoe C. Shaw Sr. and Lucy Rae Weathers Shaw. He was a graduate of Phiffer College and retired from the Journal and Sentinel newspapers in Winston-Salem. He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Jordan Shaw on Nov. 30, 1990, and a brother, Gene Shaw. Surviving are his sons, Michael Ray Shaw and Jimmy Shaw, both of the home and Steve Shaw of Lexington; four grandchildren, Joy Shaw, Christina Milner, Peggy Shaw and Daniel Bishop, all of Lexington; a great-grandchild, Christopher Devin Cottle, who was born Feb. 29, 2000; and a sister, Doris Ray of Fuquay Varina. YADKINVILLE -- Mrs. Macle Stamper Shore, 87, of Yadkinville died Wednesday, March 1, 2000, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro. She was born July 24, 1912, in Alleghany County to the late John and Mary Blevins Stamper. She was a homemaker and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Goldsboro. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Shore on Dec. 15, 1969; a son, Russell Gray Shore; granddaughter, Tina Lou Ann Shore; and grandson, Christopher Shore. Surviving are three sons, the Rev. John R. (Edith Scott) Shore of Goldsboro, Charles W. (Betty Myers) Shore of Yadkinville and Vernon E. (Judith Brown) Shore of Yadkinville; grandchildren, John Randy Shore, Scotty D. Shore, Rebecca Shore (the Rev. Bill) Mulligan, Gray Shore, Jonathan Lee Shore, Kristie Lee Ann Shore and Jennifer Dena Shore; and a great-grandchild, Madelyn Shore. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 3, 2000, at Gentry Family Chapel conducted by the Rev . Junior Royall and the Rev. John Shore.
