SWAIN
Mr. Henry Clay Swain, 86, of 5101 Fredonia Ave., died Monday, Feb. 28, 2000. Mr. Swain was born in Forsyth County, the son of Howard and Flora Tuttle Swain. A private graveside service will be held at Crestview Memorial Gardens on Friday. Mr. Swain is survived by three sons, Jackie F. Swain of King, Henry C. Swain Jr. and David K. Swain, both of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
WILLIAMS
GERMANTON -- Mr. Carl Reid Williams, 52, of Germanton died Monday at Vencor Hospital, Greensboro. He was born April 13, 1947, in Rockingham County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Elizabeth Martin Williams; brothers, Junior Scott, Billy Joe Williams and Fred Wayne Williams; and best friend, Howard Bass. Survivors include his wife, Sheila Harris; one daughter, Angel Jessup; and his beloved granddaughter, Amber Jessup, all of the home; sisters, Ella Mae Bass of Walnut Cove and Frances and Gib Cox of Asheboro; and brothers, James Allen and Measy WIlliams of Kernersville, Dexter and Gary Scott of Martinsville, Cecil and Janie Williams of Milton, Fla., and Virginia Williams of Stokesdale. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Burroughs Funeral Home, Walnut Cove. Rev. Jerry Walker will officiate. Entombment will follow in Gardens of Memory, Walkertown. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Burroughs Funeral Home, Walnut Cove.
BLAKLEY
EAST BEND -- Mr. John Irvin Blakely, 85, of 3717 Shady Grove Road died Saturday, March 31, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Lee County to John Lynn and Maggie Semore Blakely. Surviving are his wife, Ruth Elizabeth Blakely of the home; a daughter, Ruth Ann Wall of Hamptonville; two sons, Lyndon Blakely and Bill Blakely, both of East Bend; two sisters, Lenore Vestal of Yadkinville and Eliza Cartner of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Fonzo Blakely of Kernersville and Richard Blakely of Clemmons; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, April 3, at Huff Funeral Home Chapel in East Bend. Burials will follow in Stony Knoll United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Sunday evening at Huff Funeral Home in East Bend.
CHARLES
MOCKSVILLE -- Mr. Carl S. Charles, 77, of 186 Joy Trail died unexpectedly Thursday, March 30, 2000, at his home. Mr. Charles was born Dec. 9, 1922, in Forsyth County, a son of the late Jacob H. and Kezie Hedrick Charles. Mr. Charles served in the 873rd Airborne division of the U.S. Army during World Wa r II. He was a former employee of R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. and was owner and operator of Longview Grocery in Winston-Salem before his retirement. He was a member of Pine Chapel Moravian Church in Winston-Salem, where he had served his church in numerous capacities over the years. He was also active with the Senior Friends group at Pine Chapel. In addition to his parents, Mr. Charles was preceded in death by an infant son, Larry Eugene Charles; a sister, Alma Charles Chapple; and a brother, Clyde Bruce Charles. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mrs. Norma Hemrick Charles of the home; a daughter, Carol C. Taylor and husband Jim of Gastonia; a son, Norm and wife Elizabeth Charles of Mocksville; grandchildren Stacey C. Bunch and husband W.G. of Houston and Eric C. Taylor of Gastonia; and a sister, Mrs. Myrtle C. Ashley of East Bend. The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 2, 2000, at Pine Chapel Moravian Church, 324 Goldfloss St., Winston-Salem. The Rev. Matthew Allen will officiate, assisted by the Rev. George Chiddie. Interment will be in Salem Cemetery. Mr. Billy Joe Clinard II, 30, of Winston-Salem died Saturday, March 25, 2000. He was born Jan. 23, 1970, in Harris County, Texas. He was formerly employed with Salem Electric Co. Survivors include his close friend, Denise Rodar; a grandmother, Josephine Hendrix; an uncle, Larry W. Clinard; an aunt, Lisa Jo Read; and several cousins, all of Winston-Salem. A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday , April 3, at Foster Funeral Home with the Rev. G. Thomas Shelton officiating.
FORCUM
NEW HANOVER -- Mrs. Rachel Petree Forcum of 2317 Princess Place Drive died Friday, March 31, 2000, in New Hanover Regional Medical Center. She was born in Rural Hall on Jan. 28, 1922, the daughter of the late Marshall and Eltha Huffman Petree. Mrs. Forcum was a very active member of Temple Baptist Church. She was active in the Joy Singers, the Baptist Training Union, the Women's Circle, and as a Sunday school teacher. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, James B. Forcum Jr.; three children, Rebecca Forcum Laws and husband Howard of Burgaw , James M. Forcum and wife Susan of Raleigh; and Robert B. Forcum and wife Linda of Holly Springs ; seven grandchildren, Ashton George, Stuart Laws, and Lura, Marshall, Christopher, Adam and Abby Forcum; a great-granddaughter, Emily George. Also surviving are her sister, Dorothy Petree of Rural Hall; and a brother, Joe Petree of Jacksonville, Fla. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, April 3, in Temple Baptist Church by Dr. James D. Whetstone. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, in Crestview Cemetery in Rural Hall. The family will receive friends after the services at the home of Dorothy Petree in Rural Hall. Ms. Ziva Renee' Frazier, 38, of 1431-B Clark Ave., known to family and friends as ''Zip,'' departed this life unexpectedly Monday, March 27, 2000, at her residence. She was a native and lifelong resident of Winston-Salem. She was a graduate of North Forsyth High School, class of 1980, and was employed by General Maintenance Inc. at Wake Forest University-Baptist Medical Center. She is survived by her parents, Elder Wardlow and Darnella Frazier; four brothers, Fredrick Lewis-Frazier (Ernestine), Alvin Frazier, Wardlow Frazier Jr. (Pamela), and Malcom Frazier; five sisters, Sharon Frazier, Tonya Frazier, Gwen Roberts, Shelia Ebrahim, and Vickie Long; a dearly devoted cousin, Rosia Hines, and her children, Tammy and Robin; and a host of nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, and other relatives, including her niece Senaia Ziva Inman, her namesake. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday April 3 from Mount Calvary Holiness Church, with Bishop T.R. Rice officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. KING -- Mr. Cletus Clifton Kiser, 96, of E. King St. died Friday, March 31, 2000, after being in declining health for about a year. He was born Oct. 2, 1903, in Stokes County to Luvene Jackson and Martha Slate Kiser. He was a member of First Baptist Church in King. Clete retired from the NCDMV Weight Division and later he and his wife, Edna , opened and operated Kiser's Korner Gift Shop in King for several years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Burge Kiser , in 1997. He is survived by a number of nieces, nephews, and several great-nieces and nephews, along with many close friends. Graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, April 3, in King Memorial Park with the Rev. Jack Borders officiating. The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Slate Funeral Home in King. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 481, King, N.C. 27021.
KOONTZ
Mr. Douglas J.rod Koontz, 84, of 601 Arbor Road passed away Friday, March 31, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born July 20, 1915, to Fred Douglas and Maude Biesecker Koontz. Mr. Koontz graduated from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill with a bachelor's degree in commerce. He started his career over 30 years ago with Wachovia Bank and retired as an assistant vice president. Mr. Koontz was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, served as the president of his Sunday school class, and was a member of the SEVENTY. Mr. Koontz was an avid golfer. He is survived by his wife, Maxine Leonard Koontz of the home; two sons, Joseph J.rod Koontz of the home and Kurt Koontz and wife Beverly of High Point. Also surviving are four brothers, Ed Koontz of Welcome, Corl Koontz of Lexington, James Koontz of Asheboro, and Jack Koontz of Boone; a sister, Maxine Bowman of Greensboro; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, at Vogler's Reynolda Road Chapel. The family will receive friends Monday, April 3, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. MORRIS
DENVER, N.C. -- The Rev. J.D. Morris, 51, of 1374 Beth Haven Church Road won his battle with leukemia as he entered into the presence of the Lord on March 31, 2000, at Gaston Memorial Hospital. The Rev. Morris was born Feb. 16, 1949, in Guilford County. He graduated from Piedmont Bible College in Winston-Salem . He was an assistant pastor at Kerwin Baptist Church in Kernersville for three years and has pastored the Beth Haven Baptist Church in Denver for the past 28 years. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sonya P. Morris of the home; his parents, Jack and Marie Morris of Iron Station; a sister, Sheri Bumgardner and her husband, Jeff, of Mount Holly; several nieces and nephews; and a much - loved church family. Visitation will be 6:30 to 9 p.m. Monday at Beth Haven Baptist Church, 1783 Beth Haven Church Road, in Denver. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the church with Dr. John Collier, the Rev. Charlie Marshall, the Rev. David Mims and Dr. Joe Myers officiating. The body will lie instate 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff Bumgardner, Jeffery Bumgardner, Dwight Denny, Jimmy Keever, George Hallman and Sankey Sides. Honorary pallbearers will be all of the ordained deacons of Beth Haven Church.
