ANDERSON
Mrs. Elizabeth Rumley Anderson, 83, widow of Egbert Anderson, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born Feb. 17, 1917, in Forsyth County to Eugene W. and Carrie Parrish Rumley. Mrs. Anderson was a resident of Britthaven of Kernersville and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. Survivors include one sister, Ruth R. Weavil of Winston-Salem; three brothers, Richard Rumley and wife Violet and Robert Rumley and wife Elizabeth, both of Winston-Salem, and E.W. Rumley of Rural Hall; five nieces; and four nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Vogler & Sons Main Street Chapel by Dr. Guy Hipp. Burial will follow in King Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
AVERETTE
Vivian Reynolds Averette of 2319 Greenwich Road died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. Born Oct. 15, 1923, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Crews Averette. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Harv Hofferbert of Virginia Beach, Va., and Bettie Jean and Bill Larmore of Winston-Salem; one son, Eugene Crews Averette Jr. of Frankfort, Ky.; two grandchildren, Noah Larmore of Winston-Salem and Neil Larmore of Atlanta, Ga.; and a special friend, Cathy Hubbard, who has been a meaningful addition to all of our families. A service will be held Sunday, Sept. 3, in the Memorial Garden at Knollwood Baptist Church. The family will receive friends at their home from immediately after the service until 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Engine #18 Winston-Salem Fire Department, 1505 N. BLACKWELL
Mrs. Mary Clodfelter Blackwell, 72, of Winston-Salem died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. She was born Jan. 21, 1928, in Forsyth County to Romie Lee and Phoebe Stoner Clodfelter. She was a member of Grace Baptist Temple and retired from Indera Mills. Mrs. Blackwell is survived by one daughter, Sandra B. Perkins and husband Steve of Winston-Salem; two sons, Richard W. Blackwell and wife Mary Ann of Winston-Salem and Keith W. Blacwell and wife Anna of King; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 4, at Grace Baptist Temple by Pastor Ed Sears. She will lie in state 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. STATESVILLE -- Funeral services for Wally Evelyn Campbell, 47, of 316 Hawthorne Drive will be conducted at 4 p.m. today at Calvary Baptist Church in Union Grove with the Rev. Steve Pope and the Rev. J.R. Speece officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Memorials may be given to Hospice of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Drive, Statesville, NC 28625 or to the cemetery fund of Calvary Baptist Church, 329 Indian Hill Road, Union Grove, NC 28689. Survivors include two sons, Robbie Sharpe of Liberty and Jamie Sharpe of the home; four brothers, Albert Lee Campbell of Clemmons, Charles Campbell of Statesville, and Woodrow and Willie Campbell, both of Union Grove; four sisters, Mrs. Maudie Lou Cranfill and Mrs. Julia Scott, both of Statesville, Becky Campbell of Union Grove, and Mrs. Betty Sue Borre of Lewisville; and her mother, Mrs. Eloise S. CONNELL
Esta L. Connell of Winston-Salem, departed to be with the Lord on Sept. 2, 2000. She is survived by her son, Charles Burke and wife Linda of Lewisville; four grandchildren, Amy, Graham, Taylor, and Lauren Burke; and several brothers and sisters. A private service will be held. DEBUSK
On Sept. 1, 2000, the Lord called our loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Bessie Louvenia Debusk, to her heavenly home, freeing her from all her earthly pain. She was born Sept. 26, 1907, in Washington County, Va., to the late Samuel M. and Maggie Spriggs Widener. She lived most of her life in Winston-Salem. She lived with her son, W.T. Debusk at 120 E. Brookline St. until about a year ago. She was living at Silas Creek Manor at the time of her death. She was a member of Calvary Church of the Living God. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert Debusk; one son, Howard Debusk; and two daughters, Patsy Ruth Debusk and Edith Sprinkle. Surviving are five sons and their wives, Rev. Emmitt Lee and and Myrtle Debusk, Sammy and Ann Debusk, and W.T. Debusk, all of Winston-Salem, Bert Jr. and Marie Debusk of New Port, and Leroy and Carol Debusk of Kernersville, two daughters and their husbands, Buna and Lonnie Sprinkle of Winston-Salem and Mary and Charlie Lawson of York, S.C.; 30 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 4, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Bishop Bobby Cranfill officiating. Interment will follow at Woodland Cemetery. HARPE
Mrs. Marilyn S. ''Lynne'' Harpe of Winston-Salem died Thursday, Aug. 31, 2000. She was born in Hudson County, N.J., on July 27, 1925. After growing up in the New York City area and attending Columbia University, she moved to Winston-Salem in 1946, where she worked as a legal secretary for Womble Carlyle Sandridge and Rice until the 1960s. She began a political career in 1981 and represented the Southwest Ward on the Winston-Salem Board of Alderman until 1997. She also was a charter member of the Forsyth County Tourism Development Authority, where she served as chairwoman of the board from 1986 until resigning in July 2000. During her career, she also served on numerous local and statewide boards and agencies. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson C. Harpe; her mother, Charlotte B. Lawson, her father, Samuel Thomson; and her stepfather, James W. Lawson. She is survived by one son, William C. ''Bill'' Harpe, partner, Sheila Loring; and Star, the world's finest basset hound, all of Durham; one brother, William ''Bill'' Thomson and wife Ruth of Lyndhurst, N.J.; one niece, Lenore Thomson Bentz and husband Tom of White Fish Bay, Wis.; and one nephew, Dennis Thomson and wife Debbie of Maywood, N.J. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with the Rev. Thomas Bentz officiating. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
HOWELL
James Roy Howell Sr., loving husband, father, and grandfather, entered his heavenly reward on Friday, Sept. 1, 2000. He was born Feb. 21, 1926, in Yadkin County to James Monroe and Myrtle Foster Howell. He was employed by R.J. Reynolds for 33 years. He was a member of Christ Wesleyan Church and the Loyal Workers Sunday School class. Mr. Howell was an avid deer hunter and gardener. He is survived by his wife, Alma H. Howell of the home; a son, Jimmy Howell and wife Angie of Winston-Salem; a daughter, Joan H. Tatum and husband Bill of Winston-Salem; a sister, Jane Demarrias of Winston-Salem; and four grandchildren, Alyson Howell, Kyle Howell, James Tatum, and Joseph Tatum. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Christ Wesleyan Church by the Rev. Joey Jennings. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. LINCOLN
CLEMMONS -- Timothy O. Lincoln, 49, of 5336 Leesa Drive, Clemmons, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2000, following a yearlong bout with cancer. He was born in Forsyth County to Ruth H. Lincoln and the late C.R. Lincoln Jr. The family will be receiving visitors on Sunday night, Sept. 3, from 7 to 9 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 4, at Friends Baptist Church, 1840 Lewisville-Clemmons Road in Clemmons. Tim is survived by his wife, Joan; and his two sons, Jason Brent and Jeffrey Stewart, of whom he was very proud. He is also survived by his mother, Ruth Lincoln of Clemmons Village; one sister, Linda Miller of Winston-Salem; and one brother, Clyde Lincoln of Washington, Conn. Tim graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School in 1969 and graduated from Wingate College in 1972. He attended Wake Forest University in 1973. Tim worked for Hine-Bagby for 10 years, later for Cahill & Swain, and was also manager of Joyce & Royal at Hanes Mall. He managed Barry Manufacturing Co. in Winston-Salem for over 9 years. For the last three years, he worked for Hav-a-Cup Coffee Service. Tim was a member of Friends Baptist Church in Clemmons, where he held such offices as Worship Leader, Lay Minister, Sunday School teacher, choir member, and special music coordinator. He became a member of the Forsyth West Camp of the Gideons shortly before he became ill. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Gideon International, P.O. MARSHALL
Mrs. Evelyn L. Marshall, 92, the widow of Tandy A. Marshall of Winston-Salem, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at High Point Health Care in High Point. She was born Aug. 30, 1908, in Anniston, Ala., to George L. and Lula Handley Loftin. Mrs. Marshall grew up in Arkansas where she attended high school and musical college. She came to North Carolina in the 1930s and was active in the Baptist faith. She and Tandy were founding members of Marshall Baptist Church and Bethany Baptist Church. During her active life, she was employed by Montgomery Ward, Thalheimers, and for many years on the reception desks at old City Hospital and Forsyth County Memorial Hospital. She lived at Crystal Towers in Winston-Salem for more than 29 years and was the president of the residents group for more than 20 years. She was an active driver until she was 85 years old and took great pleasure in helping the residents get around. She lived for the Lord and has gone home to be with him. Survivors include one son, Joe G. Marshall of Salem, Va.; three grandsons, Ric of Portland, Maine, Keith of Charlotte, and Brad of Clemmons; one sister, Mary Harrison of Searcy, Ark.; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Marshall Baptist Church by Pastor James Wright. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Vogler & Sons Main Street Chapel.
